Question: What is your best low carb recipe with eggs? I'm doing a low carb diet right now and I'm kind of sick of eggs. Does anyone have any good recipes that can make eating eggs a little more exciting?
Answer: Why are you eating so many eggs on a low carb diet? Are you veggie?
I eat all kinds of omelette's and you can put in what ever filling you fancy. Scotch eggs are also low carb and go well with salad. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon make a nice breakfast or brunch. Eggs Florentine which is eggs cracked onto the top of wilted spinach topped with cream and Parmesan cheese shavings make a nice lunch dish.
A quiche made without the pastry is also a good idea because it can be eaten hot or cold and can be taken cold as part of a packed lunch.
I hope this is helpful to you .......I eat mainly low carb to ....Happy cooking
Question: What are some low carb but high in fibre food? I'm on a low carb high protein diet and i am looking for some food that is high in fibre but low in carbs and calories if possible?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Answer: Hello.. You are not actually going to find any high fiber/low carb food, because fibers are carbs...
However, you can delete fiber from Your carb count on a low carb diet.
For example, If something has 10 grams of fiber, and 12 grams of carbs, you only need to count it as 2 grams of carbs.
Off the top of my head, you wanna go with lots vegetables, and you can go with some small amounts of grains, such as oatmeal or rice cakes, or some cereals- do the math as I showed you to determine how much of these you can have..
Fiber One and All Bran cereal in particular, would be good.
Nuts, too, are good- peanuts, walnuts, pistachios, etc.
Also, check out Dr. Atkin's products- baking goods, bars etc.
and also, you may want to get "Psyllium Husk", you can use this to drastically increase your fiber intake any time you like, and you can buy it any health food store, or even some grocery stores.
Question: Did a low carb diet help you get pregnant? I've heard that some women that have had problems have concieved unexpectedly while attempting low carb. Any real-life stories?
Answer: I just heard a news story about this very topic. It said to stay away from carb, pop, and refined sugar. Stick to low carb, whole grains and veggies. Good Luck
Question: What helps you lose weight faster, low calorie or low carb? Which is more effective for weight loss? I have been on a diet but I find it really hard to focus eating both low calorie and low carb. Though I have been cutting down on both, which is more efficient? When I go out to eat I am not sure to focus on the the low calorie choices or the low carb choices. There definitely is a trade off.
Anything helps.
Thanks.
Answer: Personally- go with the low calories. That's what counts. Carbs count, but carbs won't make you automatically fat. A calorie is a calorie- wherever it comes from. If you eat less calories then you burn, you lose weight. It doesn't matter if they're from fat, carbs, or anything else.
Question: What do I make, that is low carb, with leftover, uncooked, cabbage? I made tasty lean hamburger, tomatoes, and cabbage casserole for dinner last night, and now have a half a head left over.
I need a low carb idea of what to do with the left overs.
Answer: how bout a coleslaw.........Coleslaw (or Cole Slaw) is a salad consisting primarily and minimally of shredded raw, white cabbage, although it often includes shredded carrots. There are many variations of the recipe which include the addition of other ingredients, such as shredded red cabbage, pineapple and apple. It is always mixed with a dressing which may consist of or be based on mayonnaise, milk, creme fraiche, vinegar or vinaigrette. A variety of seasoning may be added.
Question: What is the best recipe for low carb bread? I'm diabetic so I have to have low carb bread, but everything I have made thus far tastes horrible. Any ideas?
Answer: dont eat bread duh
Question: What are the effects of the low-carb hyper-caloric diet on the body? I am an athlete in the off-season, aiming to get stronger and bigger. My goal is also to become leaner. My body-fat is at around 8% and I would like it to be in 5-6% range.
I am considering a low-carb, hyper-caloric diet. I was thinking that excess calories will help me grow, while low carb will make my body used the stored body fat for energy.
Has anyone ever tried this type of diet? I would also appreciate links to research and other articles about this type of diet.
What ratio of macro nutrients would work the best?
Answer: There is no better way to bring the body to the state of optimal health than with a low carb way of eating. Low carb doesn't cause high blood pressure, high blood sugar or high cholesterol, it cures it. It is actually dangerous to take meds that lower these levels and do low carb at the same time because the levels will become dangerously low. Simple carbohydrates trigger insulin. High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Anything less that 9 grams of carbs per hour controls insulin and is considered low carb (up to 144 grams per day).
U.S. government guidelines were changed 35 years ago to suggest we lower our fat intake & increase our carb intake. American society followed these recommendations & lowered their fat intake by 11% & increased their carb consumption. In this same time frame obesity, diabetes, heart disease are all at epidemic levels. Through their direct effects on insulin & blood sugar, refined carbohydrates are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease & diabetes.
A low carbohydrate diet is a high fat diet. The protein should only be a little higher than adequate. Although it is completely possible to live on a fat/protein only diet for long term (as proven by research done in a hospital setting) it becomes boring fairly quickly. Luckily many vegetables & some fruits, nuts & seeds are low in carbs & greatly expand the diet. Most long term low carbers eat as many, if not more non starchy vegetables than vegetarians.
Glucose is the bodies preferred fuel (if you want to get technical, it actually burns alcohol most efficiently, but that doesn't make it any healthier for the body than carbs), the body can convert 100% of carbs, 58% of protein & 10% of dietary fat into glucose. The body can also be fueled by fat (dietary fat & fat cells) but only in the absence of carbs. Your brain actually prefers* to be fueled by ketones (part of the fat burning process), it does require glucose also, but glucose can be easily converted from excess protein if needed or dietary fat.
Plaque build up in the arteries is more attributable to carb consumption than dietary fats, which seems to be the conclusion of the following study. Carb consumption raises triglycerides & VLDL (bad cholesterol). Fats raise the HDL (good cholesterol). High triglyceride levels & low HDL levels are an indicator of plaque & glycation - the precursors to a heart attack & heart disease.
http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/2009/1…
study from the Oxford group examining the postprandial (after-eating) effects of a low-fat vs. low-carbohydrate diet. (Roberts R et al, 2008)
Postprandial lipoproteins, you'd think, would be plentiful after ingesting a large quantity of fat, since fat must be absorbed via chylomicrons into the bloodstream. But it's carbohydrates that figure most prominently in determining the pattern and magnitude of postprandial triglycerides and lipoproteins. Much of this effect develops by way of de novo lipogenesis, the generation of new lipoproteins like VLDL after carbohydrate ingestion.
Gary Taubes who wrote "Good Calories, Bad Calories" spent 7 years going through all the studies over the last century & dividing up the real science from the faulty science & concluded that low carb was the best way to control insulin levels which balances out other hormones & allows the body to function properly.
His main points are:
1. Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease or any other chronic disease.
2. The problem is refined carbs in diet, their effect on insulin secretion & the hormonal regulation of homeostasis.
3. Sugars - sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup specifically - are particularly harmful, the combination of fructose & glucose simultaneously elevates insulin levels & overload liver with carbs.
4. Through their direct effects on insulin & blood sugar, refined carbs, starches, sugars are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease & diabetes. They are likely dietary causes of cancer, Alzheimer's & other diseases.
5. Obesity is a disorder of excess fat accumulation, not overeating.
6. Consuming excess calories does not cause us to grow fatter.
7. Fattening & obesity are caused by an imbalance in the hormonal regulation of adipose tissue & fat metabolism. Fat synthesis & storage exceed the mobilization of fat from adipose tissue & its subsequent oxidation.
8. Insulin is the primary regulator of fat storage. When insulin levels fall, we release fat from fat tissue.
9. By stimulating insulin secretion, carbs make us fat.
10. By driving fat accumulation, carbs also increase hunger & decrease the amount of energy we expend in metabolism & physical activity.
Question: Why is it when I eat a low carb breakfast my hands and feet are cold in the morning? Only when I eat a low carb breakfast. I don't feel hungry or anything like that. My feet are just cold. And I know it's not the temperature.
Answer: It just might be that your body doesn't do well at turning your own body fat into available energy, and relies on a recent intake of food to do it. You can't digest fat and protein quickly enough to keep warm after the nightly fast - by you, I mean you personally. People's metabolisms and reactions to food can differ markedly.
Some people can thrive on mostly fat and protein with few carbs, and some get by better on mostly complex carbs and little fat and/or protein. Different people can get fatter or thinner on exactly the same diets.
Consider adding a few vegetables or some fruit or even whole grain (oats are pretty good) to kick-start your metabolism in the morning, even if you stay low carb the rest of the day.
Question: How do I survive the low carb lifestyle? I am just starting out (again) on a low carb diet, but everyone close to me eats very high carb foods. How do people get through that and how does one survive and maintain a low-carb diet?
Answer: ok, for example, everyone around you is easting pizza. to avoid the temptation, have mozzerella sticks, no breaded, spaghetti sauce, and say some peperoni slices on hand..that way you get basicly a pizza w/out the carby crust.
i LOVED when i was on a low car diet..i have not felt so good in YEARS!!! yeah i am going back on it. i really and truly felt better physicaly and mentaly and emoptiobnaly more balanced.
hope that helped.
she said LOW CARB not NO CARB!!
example. your body burns fat to make energy, hence weight loss, but your body will burn carbs first. so the first couple weeks you take all carb out until you hit ketosis (body burning fat for energy) when that happens, you slowly add carbs keeping track of it till you go out of ketosis, then you drop the number of carbs you can have back down to where you were burning them just under the limit that brought you out of ketosis. that is the amount of carbs you can have per day and still maintain fat burning. the body still gets the carbs it needs and yet still burns fat off. it's awsome !!
i suggest as a sugar alternative STEVIA!! splenda was being tested as a pesticide , that is how they found it was sweet. nutrasweet just as bad, it metabolizes similar to chemicals contained in fire ant venom and formaldehyde in the body. please dear GODS if you must have sweet, use STEVIA or RAW SUGAR!!
whats more there are no long term studies cataloging the effects of long term ingestion of either nutrasweet or splenda.
alos keep in mind , not everyones body works the same way. so where a low carb diet works for some it won't work for everyone.
Question: Where can i find good recipes for low carb side dishes, and alcoholic beverages? With the holidays here, i need to find some low carb options so i will be more likely to stick to my diet. Any suggestions?
