Magnesium Deficiency
Question: magnesium deficiency? i was in the hospital last week and was givin magnesium through iv because they said it was low
Answer: What is your question then? It was low, so they gave you some. Usually, if it's low enough to cause an issue, you get muscle spasms.
Question: Would a Magnesium deficiency cause your body to hoard iron? I red once that if your body doesn't get enough of one type of mineral it will hoard another type for no reason. I have abnormally high iron levels and I also have all the basic symptoms of a magnesium deficiency.
Answer: Magnesium (Mg) is a trace mineral that is known to be required for several hundred different functions in the body. A significant portion of the symptoms of many chronic disorders are identical to symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Studies show many people in the U.S. today do not consume the daily recommended amounts of Mg. A lack of this important nutrient may be a major factor in many common health problems in industrialized countries. Common conditions such as mitral valve prolapse, migraines, attention deficit disorder, fibromyalgia, asthma and allergies have all been linked to a Mg deficiency. Perhaps not coincidentally, these conditions also tend to occur in clusters together within the same individual. A magnesium deficiency as a root cause would provide a logical explanation of why some people suffer from a constellation of these types of problems.
Allergies, Chemical Sensitivities
Anxiety and Psychiatric Disorders
Aorta Strength
Asthma
Attention Deficit Disorder
Calcification of Soft Tissue Including Heart Valve
Diabetes
With regard to skeletal muscle, one may experience twitches, cramps, muscle tension, muscle soreness, including back aches, neck pain, tension headaches and jaw joint (or TMJ) dysfunction. Also, one may experience chest tightness or a peculiar sensation that he can't take a deep breath. Sometimes a person may sigh a lot.
Symptoms involving impaired contraction of smooth muscles include constipation; urinary spasms; menstrual cramps; difficulty swallowing or a lump in the throat-especially provoked by eating sugar; photophobia, especially difficulty adjusting to oncoming bright headlights in the absence of eye disease; and loud noise sensitivity from stapedius muscle tension in the ear.
Other symptoms and signs of magnesium deficiency and discuss laboratory testing for this common condition. Continuing with the symptoms of magnesium deficiency, the central nervous system is markedly affected. Symptoms include insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity and restlessness with constant movement, panic attacks, agoraphobia, and premenstrual irritability. Magnesium deficiency symptoms involving the peripheral nervous system include numbness, tingling, and other abnormal sensations, such as zips, zaps and vibratory sensations.
Symptoms or signs of the cardiovascular system include palpitations, heart arrhythmias, angina due to spasms of the coronary arteries, high blood pressure and mitral valve prolapse. Be aware that not all of the symptoms need to be present to presume magnesium deficiency; but, many of them often occur together. For example, people with mitral valve prolapse frequently have palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks and premenstrual symptoms. People with magnesium deficiency often seem to be "uptight." Other general symptoms include a salt craving, both carbohydrate craving and carbohydrate intolerance, especially of chocolate, and breast tenderness.
Question: What can cause a magnesium deficiency? if i wanted to supplement with magnesium, what is the recommended dose and form? what are the dangerous side effects.
could stress or a poor diet or alcohol intake cause a deficiency?
any and all information appreciated, no matter how trivial it may seem to you, i would really appreciate any and all answers.
Answer: Poor diet.
Question: What causes Magnesium deficiency and how can it be treated holistically? What conditions are you at risk for when you are Magnesium deficient?
Answer: Gastrointestinal disorders that impair absorption such as Crohn's disease can limit the body's ability to absorb magnesium. These disorders can deplete the body's stores of magnesium and in extreme cases may result in magnesium deficiency. Chronic or excessive vomiting and diarrhea may also result in magnesium depletion [1,10].
Eating a variety of whole grains, legumes, and vegetables (especially dark-green, leafy vegetables) every day will help provide recommended intakes of magnesium and maintain normal storage levels of this mineral. Increasing dietary intake of magnesium can often restore mildly depleted magnesium levels. However, increasing dietary intake of magnesium may not be enough to restore very low magnesium levels to normal.
In which case I would suggest a magnesium supplement.
Question: I strongly suspect I have a magnesium deficiency but which supplement is best? There is like magnesium oxide, magnesium chelate, magnesium sulphide.... the list goes on! Does it matter which I use? I have pretty much all the symptoms of this, and had a very bad diet/lots of alcohol at college
the doctor can go and take a running jump. he is incompetent.
Answer: The doctor prescribed Mag-ox for me.You should take whatever your doctor prescribes...may not even be magnesium.
Question: How severe can the consequences of a magnesium deficiency become? I'll leave the details out, because they don't matter. I just want to know if a severe deficiency causes irreversible damage. (physical, neurological, etc.)
Answer: A type of cardiac arrest, known as torsades de pointes, is the most severe consequence I can think of for a magnesium deficiency. Read below for more details. There are many, many more serious consequences of hypomagnesemia, such as preeclampsia in pregnant women, asthma, and ataxia, to name a few. However, cardiac arrest gets the vote for "most severe" consequence.
Arrhythmia
Magnesium is needed for the adequate function of the Na-K-ATPase pump in the heart. A lack of it depolarises and results in tachyarrythmia. Magnesium inhibits release of potassium, a lack of magnesium increases loss of potassium. Intracellular levels of potassium decrease and the cells depolarise. Digoxin increases this effect. Both digoxin and hypomagnesemia inhibit the Na-K-pump resulting in decreased intracellular potassium.
Magnesium intravenously helps in refractory arrhythmia, most notably torsade de pointes. Others are ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation.
The effect is based upon decreased excitability by depolarisation and slowing down of electric signals in the AV-node. Magnesium is negative inotrope as a result of decrease calcium influx and calcium release from intracellular storage. It is just as effective as verapamil. In myocardial infarction there is a functional lack of magnesium, suppletion will decrease mortality.
Question: How long does it take to correct a magnesium deficiency?
the question is--if you have a magnesium deficiency (levels that are inadequate for the body to correctly perform all tasks needed), then how long would it take to correct? For example, an iron deficiency cannot be immediately corrected--it takes several months to build ferritin up.
Answer: That is truly an excellent question! Unfortunately, I am not entirely sure of the answer, so therefore I wish you the very best of luck in finding it! Hopefully, there will be someone who knows this! Once again, good luck!
Question: Is there a medical condition that could cause a magnesium deficiency? I suspect it's just that I don't eat a varied diet, and I've been on a low calorie regimen for years.
Answer: Research has shown that 80% of all Americans do not get a sufficient amount of magnesium in their diet. Processing food removes magnesium from its usual sources, and even softening water decreases the magnesium in our diets. Certain diseases like alcoholism, kidney malfunction, chronic diarrhea, and arteriosclerosis can affect magnesium levels in an adverse way. Some prescription hormones like hormone replacement therapy or birth-control pills can upset metabolism and cause a deficiency.
Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions.
Question: the effects of nitrate and magnesium deficiency in plants? please guyz i need yo help, i got ma exams so soon, and i cant find an answer for it

Answer: n chlorosis,stunted growth
m chlorosis and reddening of leaves, leaf tips turn upward, older leaves most affected
Question: When are the symptoms bad enough that you should get tested for Magnesium deficiency?
Answer: Headaches, fatigue, sluggish digestion, a range of symptoms. I have just started to take magnesium, and i feel better already, but go to a health store, as they have better quality, fast absorbant, not the ones in the supermarket, they are not as good.
Question: What are the symptoms of a magnesium deficiency?
Answer: Some symptoms are uncontrollable spontaneous muscle movement (twitching), sometimes even cramps.
Question: Does More Semen Ejaculation is Responsible for Magnesium Deficiency or Not Help?
Answer: No!!!!!!
After how many days you are ejaculating?
If you will do after more days there will be more semen .
Question: If a magnesium deficiency can make us crave salt, what makes us crave chocolate or sweets?
Answer: People with a sweet tooth crave chocolate or sweets.
Question: Can Most Mental Illness Be Caused By A Magnesium Deficiency? Couldn't a magnesium deficiency be the cause of a chemical imbalance?

Answer: JerZey,if you have a magnesium deficiency then the odds are you've had it for years and didn't know about it.What if you were deficient while you were pregnant? Have you thought about that? I have a feeling I may be magnesium deficient myself.Anyway it certainly can't hurt me to add them to my diet. The only way to know is to try.My Doctor has never checked me for anything like this.Thank you for the tip prior.
Question: I am trying to determine a proper dosage of magnesium to compensate for a deficiency.? The rda for magnesium is 400mg, but if you have a deficiency I am assuming you would take more. I haven't had any luck on google with this question. I would appreciate any professional advice or a good link that deals with dosage for deficiency.
Answer: Do you know how much magnesium you are getting in your diet currently? How do you know you have a deficiency? Why don't you just buy some magnesium at the health food store and take 400 mg per day, if that's the RDA. You'll know you're taking too much magnesium if you get diarrhea. Magnesium acts as a laxative when you take too much. I recommend a product called "Ionic Fizz" with magnesium. It dissolves in water and is a yummy drink that makes it easier for your body to digest/absorb the magnesium. You can buy it at www.iherb.com.
