Malic Acid
Question: What form of malic acid could I take to replace the 5 green apples per day in a liver cleanse? I just finished a 6 day liver cleanse eating 5 green apples per day. I have hypoglycemia and it was too much sugar for me. The malic acid is supposed to soften the gall stones. Can I get the Malic acid in another form to achieve the same softening effect?
Answer: yeah you can get it is magnesium malate (magnesium + malic acid). Found as Ultra Muscleze by Bioceuticals. See a naturopath for it.
Question: what is the equation of reaction for malic acid and citric acid with calcium carbonate? i know malic acid is C4H6O5 a dicarboxylic acid and citric acid is C6H8O7 a tricarboxylic acid. but i cant balance the equations. pls help.
Answer: C4H6O5 (aq) + CaCO3 (s) --> C4H4O5Ca (aq) + H2O (l) + CO2 (g)
2C6H8O7 (aq) + 3CaCO3 (s) --> (C6H5O7)2Ca3 (aq) + 3H2O (l) + 3CO2 (g)
Calcium malate and calcium citrate aren't very soluble, so it is likely that those products will be solid as well as aqueous.
Question: What is the malic acid content of apple cider vinegar? I would like to know the percentage of malic acid present in apple cider vinegar and the ratio of acetic acid to malic acid.
Answer: malic acid content is .05 of acetic acid content.
Multiply acetic acid content (usually 5%) by .05 to find malic acid content.
Question: How many NMR peaks in spectrum of Malic Acid? How many peaks will there be in the NMR spectrum of Malic Acid WITHOUT D2O as the solvent. Will the two -COOH groups be identical Hydrogen environments?
Answer: If you mean that you are using an alternative solvent to D2O (rather than instructing us to ignore the D2O peak), then the acidic protons may well be visible in the spectrum.
When using alternative solvents to D2O, alcoholic and acidic proton exchange may be slowed down enough to see the protons in the NMR spectrum.
The two COOH groups are in different environments, although I don't know if they are different enough to show easily in an NMR (may depend on the resolution of the instrument being used).
You will have two peaks from the carbon backbone (CH2 and CH) and potentially three peaks from the alcoholic protons (OH).
Question: Is it safe to take malic acid if you take lexapro? I hear malic acid is good for fibromyalgia but am unsure if its ok to take with lexapro.
Answer: According to Lexapro's site:
Can I take Lexapro with other medicines?
Lexapro has a low risk of interacting with other medicines in general. One important exception is the family of antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Lexapro and MAOIs should not be taken together or within 14 days of each other. As with other medicines in this class (SSRIs), caution is indicated when taking Lexapro with tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs).
As with other psychotropic drugs that interfere with serotonin reuptake, patients should be cautioned regarding the risk of bleeding associated with the concomitant use of Lexapro with NSAIDs, aspirin, or other drugs that affect coagulation. Before you begin taking Lexapro, make sure to tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other medicines, including over-the-counter medicines, herbal remedies, diet supplements, etc.

Question: Is it safe to eat sour candy with lactic or malic acid in it during pregnancy? Im about 10 weeks along and ive started craving sour candy but im not sure if it's safe to eat candy with lactic acid or malic acid in it. I didnt think citric acid would be a problem, but if anyone knows about the other two please let me know.
Answer: Malic acid presents in apple, this what makes the sour flavour in green apple. Even in study shows that malic acid can boost iron absorption, which what pregnant woman needs
Lactic acids can primarily be found in sour milk products such as yoghurt and some cottage cheeses. I was advised to consume yoghurt in moderation with milk while pregnant to boost my calcium level.
Therefore, I would assume you have nothing to worry about, Try drinks such as lime or lemonade as well. They might work for you to keep your craving at bay. Congrats for the pregnancy :)
Question: Are soy sauce and malic acid vegan? I'm wanting to eat some pickled strip cucumbers from a Chinese/asian grocery store and I want to know if they are vegan.
Answer: Both soy sauce (comes from soy beans) and malic acid ( comes from unripe fruits) are vegan.
Question: Where can I buy the MAMA Lotion - Mandelic Acid/Malic Acid Gel? Does anyone know where can I buy the MAMA Lotion Mandelic Acid/Malic Acid Gel in Australia? Thx!
Answer: I don't know in Australia but in America I work with a product that is invented by a dermatologist is called Vivant. It is used for acneic skin and I have very good results with it.
We have pads in different strenghts 15 to 30. depending the skin sensitivite.
By the way I am a licensed aesthetician in Florida USA, and I have young teens I treat with Mandelic (witch is acid from almonds).I can send you some.
Question: Where in Miami can I find/buy citric acid and malic acid? If you suggest squeezing an orange, then please do not bother answering.
what are canning supplies?
Answer: The brand name for the Citric and Malic acid they are talking about is Certo, it come in both a pouch of liquid or in powder form, or most drug stores in the dietary supplement or the aisle were they sell things like mineral oil and alcohol.
Malic acid like citric acid is a fruit based derivative, it can be used in jams, jellies, pickles and in fruit drinks. You can add it to marinates and sauces to help keep tomato or acid based sauce from spoiling. Added to seasonings for a slight tang, especially BBQ seasoning or meat to be smoked.
Question: Should you take EDTA and Malic Acid supplements on an empty stomach, or with meals? Please don't bother me with a tirade against supplements. Been there, heard that, OK?
Answer: Take them on an empty stomach. Chelating agents tend to react with food elements reducing their absorption and making them less effective.
Question: Will taking Malic Acid help you have a girl? I heard it raises the levels of something.. i dont remember.. which will help you have a girl.
Answer: no it does not help
Question: Does controlled atmosphere storage effect the malic acid in apples?
Answer: yes
Question: Can anyone name the ionized form of malic acid? It is also a source of Carbon Dioxide in the Calvin cycle.
Answer: Malate (O−OC-CH2-CH(OH)-COO−) is the ionized form of malic acid. It is an important chemical compound in biochemistry. In the C4 carbon fixation process, malate is a source of CO2 in the Calvin cycle.
In the citric acid cycle, (S)-malate is an intermediate formed by the addition of an -OH group on the si face of fumarate; it can also be formed from pyruvate via anaplerotic reactions. Malate dehydrogenase catalyzes the reversible conversion of malate into oxaloacetate using NAD as a cofactor.
Malate is also produced in guard cells of plant leaves. It is produced from starch. A build up of malate leads to a low water potential. Water then flows into the guard cells causing the stoma to open. The stomas don't necessarly open though.
L-Malate (Malate) is dehydrogenated to produce Oxaloacetate by the enzyme Malate Dehydrogenase
This is a highly endergonic reaction (DG0' = +29.7 kJ/mol) and so the equilibrium strongly favors the reactants over the products.
However, the next step in the Krebs cycle (i.e. the first step in the process) is the highly exergonic reaction (DG0' = -32.2 kJ/mol) catalyzed by Citrate Synthase and this keeps the levels of Oxaloacetate low (<10-6 M), thus allowing the above reaction to proceed
The formation of Oxaloacetate completes the Krebs cycle
Question: what group of plant use malic acid as a specialized delivery system?
Answer: Apples contain malic acid. That's why green apples taste sour. That's a very basic answer, but I don't know if it answers your question :-)
