Question: How to prepare possibly parasitic game meats? I was just wondering, as a man that enjoys eating unusual game meats, how to prepare a cut of meat that is possibly parasitic. I have gone after things such as squirrels, rabbits, some birds, and other less appetizing animals. However, I usually never cook them myself. I have read that to get rid of the parasites in birds, the meat should be boiled at least 20 minutes before cooking. Would that work for other game as well?
Answer: it should be cooked to very well done before eating.
BUT!! LIving in the southwest as I do, I encourage you to never get near an animal that might be parasitic as it might also have the fleas which cause PLAGUE! I don't think we have had a case yet, but it is just a matter of days or weeks before they announce one. It happens every year because people are hungry from strikes or loss of job and homelessness.
Question: How can I keep chicken and other meats from drying out on my countertop grill? I have a countertop electric grill, a GE and my husband loves boneless skinless chicken breast. I like to use the grill but it seems like the meat gets dry, other meats to. We eat a lot of lean protein so there is not a lot of fat on it to keep it from drying out. I also cook the whole package and freeze half. What is a good way to reheat the meat for another meal?
Answer: One way is to not cook it as long. To still get even cooking though, pound the breasts flat with a meat thumper until about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, then sear on both siced for about 4 minutes... that should be enough.
Or you could sear them first and finish them in a 350F oven with some sauce on them to keep them moist. google a chicken parmesan recipe for some ideas.
Finally, I suppose you could baste it, but that sorta defeats the purpose of grilling it for the char marks and texture.
Good luck though and just have fun with it :)
Question: How long to cook different meats? Even though I know how to bake sweets perfectly, I don't know the basics of cooking meat. I know how to coordinate flavors and textures for the most part, but it would help me a lot if I knew the basic staple times too cook most cuts of different kids of meats thoroughly. Thanks so much for your help!
Answer: You cook meat by temp not time. Use a good meat thermometer to measure the internal temperature of the meat.
Cook Chicken and Turkey to 165f - 170f
Cook Pork to 160f
A Rare steaks start around 125f and goes up to 150f - 160f for well done
Seafood to 140f
Question: How long can certain foods (meats) be good for when frozen? I have a deep freeze and bought a bunch of meats 4-5 months ago and placed them inside. I was planning to start an exercise routine, but things got in the way. Now I am planning to start this up and was wondering if these frozen meats are still healthy to eat after a third of a year? The specific foods that I have are fish, chicken breasts and steak. As I said, they have been frozen ever since the day I purchased them.
Answer: Yes, I think they should be ok;ay to eat IF you've had them frozen all this time.
Question: how do i imitate a grill with my meats? i have an apartment, so i dont have a grill, and i love my meats!
i know i can grill a steak, burger or chicken in a pan, but its just not as good as cooking on the grill.
i also have a george foreman grill, but all it is is just a sloped pan so the juices drain out. i end up with really dry meat that way.
does anyone have any tips for how i can cook my meat and still have it be really juicy and not crusted on the outside?
Answer: Well you will never 100% get that grilled flavor but you can use your stoves broiler, it's the hottest setting and is the closest heat your gonna get to an open flame, you just have to be careful because it does cook alot faster than regular oven temps. You can also buy seasonings that give you smoked flavor.

Question: What are some inexpensive meats that I could feed my dog? I have been unable to find a dog food that my dog will consistently eat. He just does not like regular dog food, point blank! He would much rather prefer human food, but unfortunately I live alone and eat out most of the time so I do not have leftovers to feed him. He is beginning to slim down as a result and I would now like to move him to a high protein meat diet, however, I have been unable to find inexpensive meats to cook for him and my other rottweiler. Are there any meats that I could buy that my dogs would enjoy, and at the same time will not have to spend a whole lot of money. I know this diet will be somewhat expensive, but I am looking for the most economical way. What are some inexpensive meats?
I have heard quite a few people suggest feeding raw meat. How safe is that?
Answer: The cheapest meats I have fed to my Danes are beef liver, kidney, and heart. I have bought all three at local grocery stores for less than a $ a pound. I have fed them raw (fresh from the store), and frozen (cut into cubes and frozen into what I call beefsicles). All three of them love raw meat, although my older male doesn't like the smell of the kidneys and won't eat them as fast as the others.
I still feed a dry kibble and whenever they wouldn't eat it, I would put some raw meat in it or some yogurt or cottage cheese on it and they eat it up.
Question: What kind of meats go well in a cheese fondue? What else besides bread would you suggest? I am new to fondues and we just bought a fondue pot. We are making a three cheese fondue and would like to know what goes well with it as far as meats and vegetables. What do you suggest and what have you done that worked well?
Answer: Cheese fondue is usually served with cut-up cubes of hearty breads, the type of bread depends upon the cheese in the fondue, but a good French bread works with any type of cheese fondue. Try a rye or marble bread with a cheddar cheese fondue for a different flavor combination.
In addition to bread for dipping in the cheese you could try wedges of apple, slices of pear, grapes, steamed vegetables like broccoli or cauliflower, steamed asparagus spears, even pre-cooked baby potatoes.
Remember the cheese will not cook anything, unlike oil fondue where you cook the meat in boiling oil. So if you want to use meat with your cheese fondue make sure it is pre-cooked. Beef goes well with a cheddar cheese or Gouda where chicken cubes go best with fondues containing a lot of white cheeses like Gruyere, Swiss, smoked Gouda and the like. You can also cut up "sea legs" (the fake crab stuff) for dipping in your fondue!
Question: What kind of meats do you feed your infant? My son is 8 months old and is very much into self feeding. He eats all kinds of peas and beans, Cheerios, scrambled egg yolk, peeled, sliced, and quartered grapes. I've tried the Gerber Pasta Pick Ups and the little sausage things they make. He's not to hot on the pick-ups or the sausages, but he loves the jarred meats. He eats so much better though if he can pick it up and put it in his mouth his self.
So what are some meats you feed your son?
Answer: Well I have a daughter and for meat (we have just started) I buy the tyson already made chicken strips that you buy in the refrigerator section and cut them up into bite size chunks, then I also give her lunch meat too (chicken and turkey) it is the one that has 100% natural meat, no filers etc. The jarred meat just looks gross to me.
Question: How can I get my meats to be moist in the slow cooker? My meats always come grainy and a little dry when I use the slow cooker. The sauces and vegetables are always fantastic and the meat is basically soft.....just dry and grainy - all meats, chicken, beef, pork, turkey - all!
Answer: Make sure you marinade them in a nice marinade for at least 30 min to an hour. You can use those preseasoned marinades or make your own making sure to use buttermilk (for chicken and pork) or vinegar. These help to break down the proteins alittle so it won't have that grainy texture. i like infused vinegars. Only a little tho and stay away from powdered meat tenderizer. It dosen't penetrate the meat enough. Use plenty of liquid in your slow cooker. I find that if you flip the meat half way thru cooking that it allows juices to get all the way in the meat.
Question: What is the shelf life of various meats using only ancient preservation techniques? What is the shelf life of various meats (beef/fish/pork/poultry) using various ancient preservation methods (circa Ancient Egypt 3500-2000BC) in days/weeks/months. (salted vs unsalted)
Assume its being done by someone who knows what they are doing. The environment is very hot and dry, Freezing is not an option.
Answer: Salted, dried, pickled or brined foods will last for years if properly prepared, especially meats. Fruits and vegetables will last weeks to months.

Question: What kind of meats can I get for my kitten from the grocery store? I would like to change up the food a little from the canned food that I have been giving him and wondered what kind of different meats/organs I can pick up from the store that might be healthy and available? Would be great to know of appropriate preparation method too. Thanks guys.

One out of two cats love: shrimp (cooked)
Both cats showed no interest in: lamb and pork (raw and cooked)
Question: What are some good meats for me to eat? I have to admit I do like meat, although I fully appreciate the concerns of many vegetarians.
I have grown up with the 'standard' fare; beef, chicken, pork, lamb, turkey, all brought from the market. But I want to try different meats that will still be easy to get hold of, not too expensive and easy for cook for someone with limited culinary skills (me!).
Where would be a good place to start? A friend suggested duck and venison?
Thanks!
Answer: rabbit is a nice meat, some butchers have it. i roast mine delicious
Question: What is the youngest a baby can try meats? My son is 6.5 months, and has been on solids (veggies and fruits) for about a month now. Is it too early to try meats and protein with him?
Answer: No, it's not too early.
Meats are being given earlier today than used to be the norm. They are (contary to myth) no harder to digest than fruits or veggies, and they are a good source of iron. (Much better than the fake iron in rice cereal.)
Any baby old enough for solids (6 months+) can have meat.
Question: Can cold meats purchased fron the deli be frozen to eat at a later date? I was wondering if when I purchase my cold meats (such as deli ham and cold roast beef and cold roast pork), can I put them in the freezer and thawe them out to eat them at a later time?
Answer: Certainly can. We do it all the time.
Question: Is it safe to give my dogs some freezer burned meats? These meats are a few to maybe 6 months old. I would fully cook these meats first of course. I've heard that in the wild dogs digestive systems can tolerate the consumption of spoiled meat from animals. I know that household dogs are domesticated and used to a different diet but I think their stomachs could possibly handle the consumption of these older, freezer burned, but not spoiled meats. What do you think? Thanks in advance!
Answer: Actually your dog is better designed to eat and digest meat raw. Dogs haven't been domesticated long enough for their digestive tracts to adjust to cooked foods. They can digest some of it, but nowhere as well as they can if its raw.
The freezer burned meat is just fine, and even better raw.
Lil Mama, purebred or mixed, a dog is a dog, and their digestive tracts remain the same.
As far as pancreatitis this is caused by to much FATTY food, not meat. If the meat is really fatty, trim some away.
Raw bones are safe, cooked are not.
