Question: Are there any natural vegan sources of methylcobalamin (vitamin B12)? I've heard of natural sources of cyanocobalamin but not methylcobalamin. Do any exist or would a vegan have to take supplements or get shots?
I posted this here because I thought I might get a few answers from people who know what they're talking about.
Thank you!!
Answer: From wikipedia with sources-
According to the U.K. Vegan Society, the present consensus is that any B12 present in plant foods is likely to be unavailable to humans and so these foods should not be relied upon as safe sources, as the B12 analogues can compete with B12 and inhibit metabolism. Also, vegan humans who eat only plant based foods must ordinarily take special care to supplement their diets accordingly. The only reliable vegan sources of B12 are foods fortified with B12 (including some soy products and some breakfast cereals), and B12 supplements.[33] [34]
While lacto-ovo vegetarians usually get enough B12 through consuming dairy products, vitamin B12 may be found to be lacking in those practicing vegan diets who do not use multivitamin supplements or eat B12 fortified foods. Examples of fortified foods often consumed include fortified breakfast cereals, fortified soy-based products, and fortified energy bars.
Claimed sources of B12 that have been shown through direct studies[35] of vegans to be inadequate or unreliable include laver (a seaweed), barley grass, and human gut bacteria.
Also cyanocobalamin is not naturally occuring and is chemically converted in the body to the methylcobalamin.

Question: Where can I find Source Natural METHYL-B12 (methylcobalamin) supplements in Toronto, Canada?
Answer: Most answers to this question will be in the form 'it's not possible to have enough B12 animal products or supplements"
I for one do not agree, men have lived for many years and have enjoyed great health-without animal products.Firstly the amount we need is very small and the body stores it well -it will often take up to 5 years to deplete the supply. If we do allow that to happen -big problems!
The main problem is -we are "germ-o-phobic" yes we clean everything too much.In other words- a little dirt without our mushrooms never killed anyone. We wash, scrub, disinfect
everything!return to natural hygiene, stop the war on germs and allow the body to do it's job.become a gardener like Adam.

Question: My doc suggested 750 mg of methylcobalamin as pegnancy vitamin? anyone ever taken taht. Its very new to me.? the tablet that i hve to take shows folic acid - 5mg
methylcobalamin - 750 mg
docosahexaonic acid - 100 mg. is anyone else taking these supplements?
also 300 mg of progestrone daily...i am not use to taking sooo many medicines..really worried ...please reply...
Answer: Methylcobalamin is a B vitamin used by the nervous system. Docosahaxaonic acid (DHA) is used by the brain. DHA is added to infant formulas and is found in breast milk. Folic acid during pregnancy prevents neural tube defects in the baby. Progesterone must be something that your doctor thinks is necessary for you (was you level low or something? Ask why if you don't know).
Anyway, my main concern is that you aren't taking enough supplements. These are only 3 nutrients out of the hundreds (maybe?) that humans need. I'm surprised that you are not taking a prenatal multivitamin with iron. You can get them over the counter. I would ask your doctor if you should be on one and whether you can take that in addition to these that you've said. Always, the best thing to do is ask if you don't know what something's for or why you need it.
Question: Is it legal to sell methylcobalamin in powder form or injectable form without Rx *for animal use*? (details)? I'm talking about methylcobalamin, not cyanocobalamin or hydroxocobalamin.
So, is it illegal to sell it to people *without requiring a prescription*, in powder form or injectable solution, if it is labeled 'FOR ANIMAL USE ONLY'?
Doctor, I know that. I'm not asking about pills. I'm asking if it is legal to sell methylcobalamin in *powder form or injectable form* without Rx *for animal use*.
Answer: Hmm. I'm a little rusty in this area, but recalling from animal models and all that horrific training we had to go through, between the USDA regulations it's not legal to sell any sort of injectable substance without either a prescription or to a licensed/registered professional (vet, lab worker) - basically someone who would know how to administer it safetly.
I've however, let my lab animal certifications lapse, as I don't work with animal models so I'm just doing this from memory. The problem with animal use stuff is that it alternately falls under the jurisdiction of various different sets of laws, depending on what animal it's for and it what setting its sold.
Question: Hypothetical question: unflavored methylcobalamin drops. The only ingredients are methylcobalamin...? ...purified water and potassium sorbate and citric acid. These are absolutely the ONLY ingredients.
The methylcobalamin in this preparation is more concentrated than in injectable methylcobalamin.
Question: is there any reason that this cannot be diluted with sterile saline solution (or some other appropriate diluting agent) and injected? In other words, is the potassium sorbate or citric acid in this preparation liable to hurt me if I inject it?
Please, if you can't answer, don't respond. That would be a violation of the rules.
Answer: Depending on the amount of these other ingredients, it may not be a good idea. If they are present in significant quantities, then the solution when put in n-saline will become hypertonic and would hurt when injected. Also, if they are present in sufficient quantities, the pH would become acidic, and this would also tend to cause you pain. I don't believe it's a good idea.
Question: Methylcobalamin overdose risks for babies?? A 1 year old baby got her hands on some B12 vitamins, she ate about 7 of them.. I need to know whats the actually harm to her,,should she go to the doctors, and what can she be givin to dilute the vitamins????/
Answer: Call poison control now. b12 is fairly non toxic but I wouldn't risk it with a baby.
Question: Can Any One Give Me Some Info On These Medicines? I recently started taking these medicines PREGALIN 75(PEGABALIN), DULANE M 30(DULOKETNE HYDROCHLORIDE & METHYLCOBALAMIN) and TERGITAL 100(CARBAMAZEPINE) can any one tell me if they have any mental side effects i.e any side effects on brain. or any other side effects at all.
Answer: and you didn't ask your doctor this? I strongly suggest you call the prescribing doctor and ask him... this is something you both should have discussed when he prescribed them.
Question: Any ways to prevent alzheimer's besides drugs? I have been doing some research on alzheimer's because it runs greatly in my family. I was looking for some nutrients or natural ways to prevent it. I have read that omega-3, methylcobalamin (methyl-b12), grape seed extract, caffeine, niacin (vitamin b3) and ginkgo can help prevent it. Does anyone know for sure if these are good approaches. Also I've read that methyl-b12 and omega-3 can actually reverse alzheimer's..is any of this true?
Answer: There is nothing concrete that has been shown to stave off the onset of alzheimers except for daily exercise and mental challenges which you can do yourself at home. There are many claims of supplements to help delay the onset of alzheimers but none have withstood clinical trials. Exercise daily brings increased blood flow the the brain and mental puzzles, challenges promote activation of neurons in your brain. Both of these have been proven to delay slightly the onset of Alzheimer's.
Question: Does vitamin B-12 spray work better than from pills? Which B-12 is better in spray form, Cyanocobalamin or Methylcobalamin?
Answer: Vitamin B-12 is a water soluble vitamin which is essential in maintaining proper brain and nervous system functioning. It is also vital for formation of blood cells.
Most people get enough of this vitamin through eating meat, eggs, milk and cheese. Vegetarians may not be getting enough of it, and may be in need of a supplement. Additionally, those with anemia, celiac disease, heartburn, ulcers or other medical conditions may not be getting enough of vitamin B-12.
Methylcobalamin is the most absorbable form of B12, so you should take this form, rather than the cyanocobalamin form.
Depending on the severity of a person's B-12 deficiency, your doctor may recommend shots, pills or spray, or a combination of these. Please see your doctor to determine which is best for you.
