New Diet
Question: Trying a new diet, wondering if it is a healthy and effective way to lose weight? I just started a new diet counting calories and making sure my fat intake is the reccomended 30% or less of calories consumed. Is this a healthy effective way of losing weight? Do I need to keep track of carbs, proteins, etc or is it safe to assume that if the fat intake is less than 30% of my calories everything I'm eating is good for me. (I'm eating a 1200-1500 calorie diet with total fat ranging from 9-12 grams)
Answer: you need a 40-40-20
40% carbs
40% protien
20% fats
Question: How do you start a new diet if you're already on a diet? Okay, so I've been on a calorie restricted diet.. It worked for the first couple of weeks, but now.. Not so much! So, I want to try the calorie shifting diet.. The thing is.. How do I get my metabolism back to normal? Because after a while, if you're on a restricted calorie diet, your metabolism starts to slow down. I was just wondering if I should go back to normal eating for like a week or two, and then start the new diet?
Answer: You can change to another type of diet, but why do a fad diet that probably will not work when all you need to do is follow this, sorry it so long, but it WILL work!
Basic premise behind weight loss is calories in verses calories out. So you need to burn more calories than you eat. This best done with a combination a good balanced meal plan or diet, (what ever you choose to call it) and exercise.
There are 3 major ways we burn calories during the day:
resting metabolic rate (RMR),
the thermic effect of food (TEF), and
physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE).
RMR is the number of calories we burn to maintain our vital body processes in a resting state.
TEF results from eating food, and is the increase in energy expended above your RMR.
PAEE accounts for the remainder of your daily energy expenditures. Included in PAEE is the energy expended in exercise and the activities of daily living
To achieve a healthy body weight, optimal body composition and increase your body‘s calorie burning capacity(metabolism), the key is to maximize your metabolism and reduce your caloric intake. To increase your metabolism, you should:
(1) increase your muscle mass by performing resistance exercise two to
three days per week (e.g., working out with elastic bands, weights, stability balls, body
bars, etc.);
(2) work up to at least 200 minutes of aerobic exercise per week (e.g., walking, jogging, bicycling, step aerobics, etc.; and
(3) eat a low- (but not too low) calorie diet. Eating less than 1,200 calories per day has been shown to decrease your metabolism. Active women should eat about 1,500 calories per day.
Remember, there is no miracle pill or other “quick-fix” solution for jump-starting a person’s metabolism. One who is willing to make simple lifestyle changes and be consistent in their application will reap the future benefits of a healthy body weight and composition.
In order to lose 2 lbs. a week you need to be in 1000 calorie deficit every day. 1 lb. of fat takes 3500 calories to burn off. You need to balance your protein, fat and carbs as well. Too many carbs, they have no where to go except fat cells. Too much protein, you go into ketosis, and this is bad for your liver, and the all the extra protein gets converted in to fat as well. Too much fat and well, no need to explain that. I've had great success with having my clients follow the 40% carbs, 30% Protein and 30% fat progam.
Also, burning calories takes oxygen so when you exercise you need to get your heart rate up to a sufficient amount to utilize oxygen. 60-75% of your max target heart rate for a minimum of 20 minutes per exercise session. Since it takes roughly 15 minutes to get this rate, you will actually need to do a minimum of 35 minutes to effectively start the fat burning process. Remember more calories out than in, but don't go below 1200 calories, so if the weight doesn't seem to be coming off, increase the time you exercise.
Good Luck, hope this helps.

Question: New diet, looking for a healthy alternative to ice cream? I'm starting a new diet next week, and I'm looking forward to it. My only downfall is I love ice cream.
Does anyone have any good ideas on a healthy replacement for ice cream? I've considered sorbets or maybe a tofu alternative, but I'd appreciate some creative ideas.
Thanks so much in advance!
Answer: Frozen yogurt? I think that's a bit healthier than ice cream.
How about getting one of those ice pop trays and freezing juices to make your own healthy popsicles?
These days I suspect there is also healthy ice creams out there....
Question: Can exercise and a new diet affect my period? I started going to the gym 5 days a week (b4 i used to go 1day a week) I also started a new diet. I have been on my period for 20 days now and im starting to get worried. I don't get cramps. I started with spotting then to normal and it stopped for a day and started with spotting again and now im at a regular to heavy flow. Can someone help me?
Answer: the diet is more likely to affect it than the excercise (unless you are exercising to an unhealthy level)- but I'm not aware of dietary changes that would have that particular effect, unless something you are eating has maybe been treated with some kind of hormones or has some substance which would alter your hormone levels. I would definitely call your doctor- if nothing else they can prescribe something which may help get your hormones balanced back out. Good luck. :-)
Question: New diet???? Okay so here's my story. I moved faaar away from my hometown and friends last year. I got super-depressed and then found out I was gay so I got even more depressed. I started eating more and more and now it has caught up to me. What is a good diet for a 15 y/o male? I'm 5'10ish and I weigh 179lbs. Almost all of my fat is on my stomach. I walk 3-5 miles per day and I can barely run for 10 minutes. I had a slight case of anorexia for a few months recently but I think it's gone.
Answer: A while ago, I couldn't even run for 2 minutes (seriously). Now, I can run for 40 minutes straight. It takes a long time but you can do it. The KEY TO THIS is proportion in eating. I can't stress this enough. You have to accept that you had an eating problem and realize how that problem is moving you farther away from your goal. Lots of people have eating problems, but lots of them fix it and move on and learn from it. Your body should be treated kindly and with respect. I know it's hard, but you can do this. I understand about the depressed thing too, emotions can really mess around with your health and eating habits. But you need to practice your will power :) you can do this. Practice on proportions.
Start jogging every day, keep building up, and PUSH yourself. Not too hard at the begining because you want to keep it enjoyable. Get some good music, and always run in the same place.
Question: How long does skin purging last on a new diet? I'm on a new diet. I've cut out dairy, processed food, sugar, meat. alcohol...etc. My liver and kidney are in pretty bad shape. I'm using Retin A on my skin as well. I was just wondering when this skin purging will end? I've been on my diet for 1 month and although my skin is no where near as bad as it used to be, I'm starting to get breakouts again...then again, I've put in some extra hours at work (late nights), so maybe it's the stress?
Answer: Retin A is awful on your skin. I used it twice. Once in high school and I got great results. Once in college where it made my skin constantly break out so badly that I still have the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation left over from it (that was like 7 years ago). In both cases, I remember it taking about a month to six weeks for my skin to settle down.
The new diet will defintely help your skin. Ever since I became a vegan, my skin has been way better.
The purging is from the RetinA, not the diet. I had no effects from switching to a health diet.
Question: is it normal to gain a few pounds when you first start a new diet? i just started a new diet, and i know i've been cuttting calories and with what im eating i dont see how its possible for me to have GAINED any weight, but i've gained 3 lbs. is there a reason for this or is this diet just not working?
Answer: It is normal your body has to get used to the new diet but you will shed the pounds soon.
Also, don't just diet you should definitely exercise, it will guarantee weight loss!
Good Luck!
Question: what diet pills work best to help you get over the beginning of a new diet? I'm starting a new diet and need a lil bit of help getting threw the first couple of weeks. What brand seems to work best for others?
Answer: Phentermine!!! it works great
Question: Is the new diet coke with vitamins acutally taste good? that new diet coke had vitamins, but im wondering if it actually tastes good.
Answer: I tried one the other day, and I didn't really taste any difference between that one and the regular diet coke. Maybe a bit less carbony. I do prefer the regular diet coke though to that one.
Question: What is a good reward for my new diet system? My new system is this: if I follow my diet all throughout the day, I give myself a reward before I go to sleep. The problem is, I'm not sure what a good reward would be. Any help at all is greatly appreciated :)
Answer: If you like them, go to the store and get a jar of Marachino Cherries. Every night right before you go to bed, if you followed your diet really well, let yourself have one cherry. It's a little sweet, but not enough sugar to effect your diet for that day, and it's a really good treat.
Question: How much will that new diet pill Alli be? That new diet pill " Alli" comes out this Summer, does anyone know how much it will cost? What about the exact date that it comes out?
Answer: I'm sure it will be over priced. Alli OTC is just a Xenical Watered Down? It claims to be capable of helping people lose 1 pound per month, big deal right. You would be better off getting a prescription for Xenical from your doctor and having insurance pay for some of it, you'll probably end up paying the same amount.
You could consider going the natural way, it is a more healthy approach. There two all natural diet pills that are safe and have no side effects. They are Cha de Bugre and Hoodia Gordonii.
Cha de Bugre, is a new weight loss supplement that is growing in popularity and is similar to Ma Huang (Ephedrine) without any of the bad effects. Cha de Bugre is from Brazil and has been used there safely for centuries. Cha de Bugre provides energy, fat burning and appetite suppression that benefit weight loss. Cha de Bugre also has additional uses that are known in Brazil that include being used as a mild diuretic, a cellulite reducer, aides in reducing herpes simplex outbreaks and a heart tonic. You can find more about it at http://hoodiagordonii.totalink.com/cha_de_bugre.html
Hoodia Gordonii is a natural appetite suppressant derived from a South African cactus that the bushmen have eaten there for thousands of years. You need to make sure you get a strong pure hoodia that is certified to be genuine. Check out Totalink's unbiased Hoodia comparison at http://hoodiagordonii.totalink.com/hoodia_comparison.html in the "Confidence" column it will indicate if the brand is "Certified". These Hoodia brands have the credentials to back up their product. Also in that column it will indicate if the brand is "Returnable". These Hoodia brands allow you to return opened bottles and get your money back. I think this indicates that a company has confidence in their product that it works.
Keep in mind that Hoodia Gordonii alone provides appetite suppression but not fat burning. Cha de Bugre is a fat burner but not as good as hoodia with appetite suppression. There are also brands that mix Cha de Bugre with Hoodia Gordonii and other weight loss herbs like Green Tea that can increase both fat burning and appetite suppression.
I have written a lot of articles on Hoodia. Just search Yahoo or Google under my name “Andrew Aitaken” to find them.
Also some of the best tips on buying Hoodia I have found are in Totalink’s Hoodia Buyers Guide at http://hoodiagordonii.totalink.com/buy_hoodia.html
Remember, you should always consult your physician before taking any diet pill or weight loss supplement.
Question: What should i include in my new diet? My diet at present is terrible, it consists of fast food and take aways and even though i am extremely skinny i am feeling the effects of it e.g. tired, lethargic and generally unfit. I have very little calcium fruit or veg in my diet so i am trying a new diet altogether which will omit fast food and junk in general. Could anybody give me an idea of what a daily menu should consist of e.g. breakfast lunch etc. Thanks alot!
Answer: I have the perfect food resource for you:
http://www.yummydietfood.com
It contains healthy, yummy, low calorie foods to help you with your diet. When I say healthy, I mean foods that don't have high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils. Enjoy!
Question: I am a cdl driver I had to take a random and I just started that morning in fact a new diet pill? I am a cdl driver I had to take a random and I just started that morning in fact a new diet pill I know that it is going to show up on the test. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is anything I can do to save my job. I do have a legit prescription. I got it from a doctors office and everything but can I still be fired?
Answer: You will be fine.
Prescribed meds are exempt from drug screens. So are OTC drugs.
If you get a "false" positive because of it, request a 2nd test.
Question: what diet can i switch to from a low carb and low calories diet for almost 2 years to some new? Iv been doing a lowcarb, and recently lowcal diet for about 2 years and was wondering if there was a new diet i should be thinking about. i do cardio everyday and i do light ab and thigh exercises a few times a week... im 20, 5 3 and weight b/w 126-128lbs
Answer: You don't say what you are trying to do on this "diet". Anything you are on for two years is not a diet it's a lifestyle. Diets are for losing weight or gaining weight.
That's to say being on a diet rather than it is your diet. Does that make sense? It barely does to me either :-)
I can only imagine your homicidal for a bag of doughnuts by now.
You sound like your weight is Ok or at least not a problem.
Have you ever though of trying the vegetarian track? You don't have to be an animal activist to be a vegetarian. I mean it does not have to be a religion. Most of your fats come from animals anyway.
If you want to have more freedom, dietarily speaking, you might add some hard exercise to your lifestyle. Then you could have that cheese cake and not feel guilty. I mean that is the goal right? Look good, feel good, eat what you want and still be healthy.
Question: New Diet water and vitamins is it OK or not? I was going to go on this new diet, that I had made it consist of only drinking water and taking vitamins for my nutrition. I am not sure if it is going to work but I have tried it before and lost like 3lbs in one day. I was just wondering if I should go through it or will it screw with my health?
I am not seeing a doc for it.
Answer: No, please don't do this! If you want to loose weight just eat a healthy, balanced diet and exercise more. :)
