Nut
Question: How to replace the gaged nut for front cross member on 2002 Dodge Neon? Rear bolt that attaches the front cross member to the frame has a "gaged" nut within the box frame. The nut is turning and I can't get the bolt out. Anyone have any ideas about how to get the bolt, and the nut out. Thanks.
Answer: occationally above the welded nut there may be a metal plate just stuck to the inside floor above the nut..they somtimes add this just incase of whats happend to you....what ive done in the apst is grind the bolt head off, remove the crossmember and weld the spinning nut back in place..whilst the wels/nut is hot get a pipe wrench/stillsons and remove the bolt...when refitting use copperslip to stop it happen again...hope this helps
Question: How do you unscrew a nut in a hole? Any workman here? We use a spanner to tighten or loosen a screw nut. However, what if the screw nut is in a hole and the spanner is too long to fit across the hole? How so you unscrew the nut? Are there any special equipment? Please advice. Thanks.
Answer: it is normal to use either a 'socket' or if very deep a 'box' spanner. The former is a short ( you can get 'long' sockets but they are called 'deep')
six or twelve sided sort of spanner driven by a square drive.
the 'box' spanner is a thin walled tube which is shaped or moulded to take a nut and has six sides IE hexagonal to fit a deep seated nut.
often used in cars to change a spark plug.
Question: How do you remove a nut on a mandrel housing on a craftsman riding lawnmower? The star piece that holds the blade broke off. I ordered a new mandrel housing shaft to replace it, but it appears that I need the blade to create a counterforce to remove the nut at the top. The nut sits just above the pulley. Any ideas on how I can hold the shaft to create 50 ft. lbs of torque to remove the nut?
Answer: I have a strap wrench or flywheel tool - I put around the pulley.
It looks like a breaker bar with a 1 inch wide nylon strap.
You can get them off the tool trucks - I get mine from Matco and Snap-on.
I also have been known to use my belt - in a pinch.
Question: Where can I get a nut free chocolate and cake? I am allergic to nuts and I need to buy nut free food for my party this weekend. Do you know any supermarkets that sell it? I know a website called 'its nut free', but it takes too long to arrive.
Answer: Any grocery store that has a bakery (or even a bakery) will take special orders and make per your instructions. I have a close friend that is allergic to nuts also and when I cook and bake for our clubs concession stand.... I keep this in mind and make special things without nuts... like brownies "with" and "without"....
There are many chocolates on the market that don't have nuts... Hersheys is a main one for you to look into.
The cake mixes on the market are almost fail proof... you could try that too.
Good Luck

Question: What kind of nuts are good in banana nut bread? I know the recipe usually calls for walnuts, but I only have chopped pecans and am too lazy to go to the store. Do you think pecans are good in banana nut bread, or should I just get off my lazy butt and go get some walnuts?
Answer: I actually like pecans alot more than walnuts..they're a sweeter nut. Works perfectly..you'll love it :)
Question: Any suggestions on how to get meat out of a Brazil nut? I just bought a bag of unshelled raw brazil nuts and I'm having a terrible time getting the things shelled. It seems like the nuts are trying their very hardest to stay attached to the shell. I end up cracking them and flipping half the shell across my kitchen and then spend 10 minutes gouging the nut out. Somehow those people at Planter's manage to sell whole Brazil nuts, so I know it must be possible.
Are there any tricks to unshelling Brazil nuts or am I really that uncoordinated?
Answer: I think the nuts are too fresh. If you let them age the skin will pull away from the shell. I don't know how long. Try it again in a week or more. Brazil nuts should be the easiest to shell. The nuts are large and solid. I can't stand shelling walnuts. If You see me around a can of nuts, Trust me you won't see any brazil nuts.
here's something I pulled from the internet
Shelling Brazil Nuts -- When you are faced with tough nuts to crack, like Brazil nuts, keep them in the freezer and you will have an easier time.
Question: What is the best toffee nut syrup I can buy easily? I really liked the toffee nut lattes starbucks had over the holidays but hate spending 4 bucks on a drink. So I got my own cappuccino maker and want to make my own. I would like to know if anyone has tried the different brands of toffee nut syrups out there (Torani, Monin, etc?) and their opinions on which are the best.. Or are "official" starbucks syrups any better? Thanks!
Thanks for the answer but I live in Honolulu and we don't have that store. I will probably have to buy online. Has anyone tried the different toffee nuts - which brand tasted the best?
Answer: KeY,,,Bean SyRup,VanNillA...Nay, they are not better than homemade...
Question: How do I find the right size wire nut for joining electrical wire together? Does anyone have a link/website that shows which size/color wire nut to use for connecting different guage size wires?
What should I be looking out for when screwing on the nut to the wires. Is there anything that I will notice when I have found the correct size?
Is the color of the nut standard from one manufacture to another?
thanks
Answer: yellows - 2 number 12s 3 number 14s
tans - up to 3 number 12 wires, 4 number 14s
reds - up to 5 number 12s, 3 number 10s
grey - 4 number 10s, 3 number 10s 2 number 8s
blues ( big ones ) - , 3 number 8s 2 number 6
the colors go from smallest to biggest in size this line up is from Ideal , but most manufactuer's follow color/ sizing convection, they do make a smaller blue and smaller grey, but these are for low voltage work of for florescent lighting secondary connections where the voltage is high, the wires are small and the amperes low
do not use Scotchloks by 3M
they are soft bodied and do not grab well and may lead to arcing even though they are still UL listed
no good electrician that I know of uses them
Question: How do I replace a wheel stud / lug nut on my 2003 Sentra? How dangerous is it to be driving my car now? I popped a tire on my 2003 Nissan Sentra. When it was being replaced, one of the wheel studs and lug nuts broke. I have bought a new wheel stud and lug nuts. Is replacing these parts something I can do at home? If so, how? And how dangerous is it to be driving my car around with one wheel stud / lug nut missing?
The problem is on the front passenger tire and there are supposed to be four wheel studs / lug nuts. (I'm driving around with three right now.)
Answer: Not only is it dangerous, but it's a huge legal liability. Without even torque, you can get excessive twisting on the remaining studs. If they break and you're invovled in an accident, they could nail you for negligence.
To do this job and home you can try to use a large C clamp. Mount a large socket behind the old stud and a small socket on the broken part. Then compress the C clamp and drive the old stud out. Reverse the process to install the new stud.

Question: How can I remove the retaining nut on a kitchen compression faucet? The retaining nut will not seal against my copper pipe, thus water shoots out the back. Bought new valve, but can't get the old retaining nut off. Any suggestions? Will this be the answer?
Answer: The first step in any faucet repair is identifying the type of faucet you have. Compression faucets have two separate handles to control the flow of hot and cold water. In a compression faucet, a rubber washer in each stem presses against a valve seat to control the flow of water. When the faucet is turned on, the washer is raised and water flows to the spout. When the faucet is turned off, the washer is compressed against the valve seat and the water stops.

Disassembling and Inspecting
Stem assembly.
The complete assembly.
1. Always use padding between pliers and decorative fixtures to avoid scratching the fixture.
2. Turn off the water supply. In most bathrooms the shutoff valves are under the sink. If not, turn off the water at the main shutoff valve. Test the faucet to make sure the water is off.
3. Remove the screw on top of the handle and pull or pry the handle off. Some faucets have a decorative cap that covers the handle screw. If your faucet has one of these caps, pry it off with a small screwdriver.
4. Remove the retaining nut. Unscrew the stem assembly and lift it out of the faucet body.
5. Inspect the stem washer for wear. Replace the washer if it is grooved, pitted, frayed or cracked.
6. Inspect the O-ring for wear. If the O-ring is cracked, frayed or brittle, replace it. Water Conservation Tips.
7. Inspect the valve seat for pitting and grooves. If the valve seat is worn, dress or replace it.

Replacing a Stem Washer
1. Remove the stem screw and discard the old stem washer.
2. Clean the valve seat and stem with steel wool.
3. Replace the old washer with a new one exactly the same size. Be careful not to over-tighten the screw or deform the washer.
Replacing an O-ring
1. Pinch the O-ring and slide a screwdriver blade beneath it. Roll the O-ring off the stem.
2. Roll a new O-ring onto the stem. Seat the new O-ring in the groove where the old one was. The new O-ring must be the same size as the old one in order to seal properly.
Dressing a Worn Valve Seat
1. Insert the valve seat dressing tool into the faucet housing. Loosely install the retaining nut to keep the dressing tool straight.
2. Apply light downward pressure and turn the handle clockwise two to three times. Check the valve seat for smoothness.
3. If the valve seat is too worn to dress, remove it with a valve seat wrench and install a new one.
Dressing tool. Valve seat wrench. Retaining nut.
Dressing a valve seat. The valve seat. Installing the retaining nut.
Reassembling
1. Place the stem assembly into the faucet body. If your faucet has packing string between the stem and the retaining nut, remove the old packing string and replace it.
2. Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut.
3. Reinstall the handle, handle screw and any cap covers.
4. Turn the water back on and test the faucet.
Question: What kind of nut is served in a Colorado Bulldog cocktail? I've occasionally had a Colorado Bulldog served with a small nut in the glass. The nut is dark on the outside and light on the inside. It's approximately the size of a small marble. What kind of nut is this?
Answer: Philbert Nut
Question: What are the best nut trees to grow in the Wisconsin climate? Want to add some trees to the yard and we thought walnut or perhaps another nut tree would be a bonus.
Answer: Black Walnut would work well in your area, but most Hickory's are native to your area.
Question: Energy released when during the burning of a nut? I have to design and complete a chemisrty investigation which compares the heating value of two nuts, on a per gram basis. (In other words, find which nut releases the mose energy when burnt). I have been looking for a formua or experiment which will let me do this but im having trouble finding anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: One way to do this is to measure how much the nuts when combusted raises the temperature of a set amount of water.
It takes 1 Calorie= 4.19 Joules to raise the temperature of 1 mL of water (1g) 1 degree Centigrade (˚C).
So use a set amount of water (probably something relatively small) in a beaker or test tube with a thermometer (digital give faster more precise results, however a generic one will do). Record initial temperature of the water. Weigh nut A (in grams) and record. Light nut A and place it under the contain of the water. Record final temperature.
Repeat using the same amount of water with the same steps, but insert nut B instead.
Example for calculation per gram basis:
Nut A = 7.00 grams
Water = 5.00 mL
Initial Temp = 20.0˚C
Final Temp = 32.0˚C
Change = 12.0˚C
As we know 1 Calorie raises 1 mL of water 1˚C so:
12.0˚C x (1 Calorie/1˚C) = 12.0 Calories or 50.3 Joules
Thats the energy required for 1 mL water, but in this case you have 5 times that, 5 mL of water.
12.0 x 5 = 60 Calories
50.3 x 5 = 252 Joules
So your 7.00g Nut provided 60.0 Calories of energy or 252 Joules. In terms of per gram:
60.0 Calories/ 7.00 grams = 8.57 Calories per gram
252 Joules/ 7.00 grams = 36.0 Joules per gram
*Note* I took the liberty of providing the answers in the sample calculations using significant figures.
Now just do the same for Nut B and you have the two answers by gram and you can then compare the results.
This method is not the most accurate, however, for a school project it should be accurate enough. Not to mention is it pretty easy to set up and clean up is easy.
Question: How do I loosen a nut at the bottom of the toilet tank? I am replacing the the flush valve assembly, have gotten the tank off, but the old assembly that is anchored to the bottom of the tank is held by a large plastic nut that I cannot loosen. (I've been working on it for 45 minutes). Is there a tool that I can get? I've drenched it in WD40, and have to stop for a bit. Will that do it if I wait long enough?
Thanks.
Answer: If you wait a little while longer the WD40 should loosed it but there's other good lubricate sprays at Canadian Tire's that are effective to use. A portable
Dremel kit with carbide blade should be able to cut the plastic nut off
within seconds.
