Nutrition Tips
Question: Some good dog food nutrition tips when looking for dog food? What are some good dog food nutrition tips when looking for dog food? I understand that there shouldn't be corn, by-products, etc. What are some other things I should look for?
By the way, I feed my dog Authority Harvest Baked... Is that a good brand? I understand that there are better out there (Innova, Wellness, Evo, California Natural, Karma, Solid Gold, etc) but I just can't afford it... But don't get me wrong, I do want the best for my dog, so the best thing I got closest to holistic and natural was Authority Harvest Baked (affordable too!) Was that a good idea to get Authority Harvest Baked?
Answer: I feed my dogs Natural balance.
You want a food that doesn't have corn, soy (fillers), by-products and a minimal amount of wheat if any (common allergy in dogs). Meat should be the first few ingredients. A lot of dog foods have corn in the first few ingredients...you don't want that.
Some other good brands are Wellness, Canidae, and Innova.
Good luck!
EDIT> I loked up the ingredients of Authority and it looks likes a decent food IMO, but wheat is the second ingredient...make sure your dog isn't allergic to it.
Question: What nutrition tips do you have for losing body fat? I work out 5 times a week, both cardio and weights. I eat very healthily - fruit, veg, meat, oat meal. I always aim to eat less than 10% of my daily cals from fat. But what other tips are there?
eg - is it best only to eat carbs early in the day?
etc etc
Any tips are welcome of course.
Thanks in advance!

Question: Would you mind giving me some basic nutrition tips? I need basic tips that are easy to remember and which I can apply to my life with the slightest of ease. So if you could just give me whatever health tips you know that would be great.
Answer: My most basic one would be to east a lot of green vegetables, also to eat at least 2 pieces of fruit and 5 vegetables per day. And to eat a lot of fibre rich foods, which can range from brown bread and rice etc to vegetables and fruits. I hope this is easy enough to remember :-)
Question: I need to lose some weight and need some nutrition tips? I am 16 years old, i weigh 165 pounds and am looking to lose some weight to look better.
What is a good amount of calories to eat everyday in order to lose weight? How many fat grams should i be taking in every day? i do work out often. Im pretty strong its just i have extra weight i dont really need. Someone please help me?
Answer: 1. First start by getting up earlier than usual. Around 5:30 AM to do some of you workouts. Getting up early shocks your metabolism because the body needs more energy to get going. Right? This will start your system on the road to weight loss. That early start with about 10 minutes of stretching. Have a cup of coffee to get the blood going also.
2. Do all the sit-ups you can. Just do them. 15 or 20 whatever, we don't have a lot of time to work with. Rest 1 minute repeat, do this for 6 sets. Already you are breathing hard and feel worn, because the body is working extra hard at being up earlier and then going right into exercise. If the early morning hour lets you get your cardio in, go ahead and do it. 30 minutes.
3. Diet. Cut all current meal portions in half, just cut them in half, nothing fancy or complicated, CUT IN HALF! Cut out all bread products, all gravies, candies, chips, night snacks, etc. If you crave at night eat a banana, other fruit or best a non-fat yogurt. There are some tasty ones out there.
4. In the evening do another 6 sets of sit-ups maxing out each set. Cardio again. The trick is to stay with getting up earlier. Yes it’s hard, that’s why it is so effective. Why do you think the Army gets up so early, it is intense training to the max.
Question: Any nutrition tips to get ready for a 2k test? For example, what should you eat and drink the day before and the day of a 2k test?
I've done a few before but not since spring of last year. thanks.
Answer: a good way to prepare is to eat healthy foods ( veggies, yogurt, pasta) the day before your 2k. you should also drink plenty of water. the day of you should eat a smaller sized meal of mostly carbs and protein. try to stay away form sugary things, they will help you for a short time, but that energy gets burned up really fast. after the 2k you should drink either powerade or chocolate milk to replenish. good luck!

Question: Any Nutrition Tips For Nanny Of Non-Meat Eating Kids? Ive been recently employed by a family with a 4 year old girl and a two year old autistic boy who refuse to eat meat as well as alot of other foods. the mother however does not want them to consume alot of sugar. how can i make them all happy?
*mother does not want them to consume SUGAR (i.e. juices like snapple etc)
Answer: I take care of a girl whose parents are vegetarian (she IS allowed to eat meat for protein but there is never much in the house).
One of her favourite foods is rice with chopped paprikas, mixed with goat's cheese (protein). You can also make your own tomato sauce with fresh tomatos , garlic and basil and eat it with macaroni.
What about egg rolls? Most kids seem to like eggs and when it's a roll, it looks 'fun'. Use the egg as a wrap and stuff minced meat ,surimi crab sticks, chicken bits(if they will eat it), if not with rice, cucumber, carrots , tomatos, paprika ,cheese etc. Prepare everything in a few bowls and let them pick what they want in their own rolls.
Question: New to working out, good books to read on nutrition and general workout tips? Im new to working out. Im not in terrible shape, but i have a bit of a pot belly and I keep hearing that 6 pack abs start in the kitchen. I have no idea where to start on learning how to eat properly. Id like some books that would teach me how to set up a proper diet to burn fat and build muscle.
Answer: Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, triglyercerides & hormone levels are all bonus features of doing a low carb way of eating. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.
What if It's All Been a Big Fat Lie? New York Times article By Gary Taubes Published: July 7, 2002 basically summarizes all the points from "Good Calories, Bad Calories: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom on Diet, Weight Control, and Disease in America" but the book written in 2007 is a detailed discussion to convert scientists and is a hard read, but he goes through it all point by point.
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/07/magazine/what-if-it-s-all-been-a-big-fat-lie.html
His main points are[1]:
1. Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease, or any other chronic disease of civilization.
2. The problem is the carbohydrates in the diet, their effect on insulin secretion, and thus the hormonal regulation of homeostasis - the entire harmonic ensemble of the human body. The more easily digestible and refined the carbohydrates, the greater the effect on our health, weight, and well-being
3. Sugars - sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup specifically - are particularly harmful, probably because the combination of fructose and glucose simultaneously elevates insulin levels while overloading the liver with carbohydrates.
4. Through their direct effects on insulin and blood sugar, refined carbohydrates, starches and sugars are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease and diabetes. They are the most likely dietary causes of cancer, Alzheimer's disease and other chronic diseases of civilization.
5. Obesity is a disorder of excess fat accumulation, not overeating, and not sedentary behaviour.
6. Consuming excess calories does not cause us to grow fatter, any more than it causes a child to grow taller. Using more energy than we consume does not lead to long-term weight loss, it leads to hunger.
7. Fattening and obesity are caused by an imbalance - a disequilibrium - in the hormonal regulation of adipose tissue and fat metabolism. Fat synthesis and storage exceed the mobilization of fat from the adipose tissue and its subsequent oxidation. We become leaner when the hormonal regulation of the fat tissue reverses this balance.
8. Insulin is the primary regulator of fat storage. When insulin levels are elevated - either chronically or after a meal - we accumulate fat in our fat tissue. When insulin levels fall, we release fat from our fat tissue and use it for fuel.
9. By stimulating insulin secretion, carbohydrates make us fat and ultimately cause obesity. The fewer carbohydrates we consume, the leaner we will be.
10. By driving fat accumulation, carbohydrates also increase hunger and decrease the amount of energy we expend in metabolism and physical activity.
Question: Best tips for infant nutrition and care? Our good friends are having a baby and I'd like to put together a scrapbook for them on infant nutrition and care, preferably best practice advised by authentic medical research. Can anyone suggest some great online resources (websites, rather than books)?
Answer: What to expect when you're expecting (the online version). Great section on nutrition. :)
Question: Anyone have any tips or recipes/nutrition tips on dogs with swollen hock syndrome/ sharpei fever/ amyloydosis? looking for either professional opinions or owners who can help with this. mainly anything that will help clear the amyloid protein or promote healthy renal function.
Thanks.
He has never eaten anything but nutro-max.
Answer: Other than the vets suggestions, there is really nothing you can do otherwise that I would know of.
You can always try switching to a really healthy dog food. This will help keep your dog as healthy as possible while he/she is going through other medical problems.

Here is a list of dog foods that were awarded 6 out of 6 stars: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php/cat/8
5 out of 6 stars: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php/cat/3
You can look through the foods that were rated from 1-6 (6 being the best): http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/index.php/cat/1
I would recommend feeding the 5-6 star foods to help.
Here is how to switch over foods avoiding stomach problems:
"On the first day of change, you should have plenty of the old dog food left. Add three quarters of their old food, and one quarter of the new food. You should do this for at least two days. After two days or so, add in another quarter, so you have half old food, half new food. Again, keep it at this level for another two days or so. Then add in a third quarter (one quarter old, three quarters new), and finally you can phase out the old food completely. "
Hope that helps!
Question: i want to lose weight which ones are the best diets please help me with some nutrition tips?
Answer: I have lost 60 lbs with eating between 1200-1500 calories a day, drinking water, walking, strength training, and eight hours of sleep. I joined a free website which I found very helpful. I know it's not a glamorous quick fix, but if you lose weight too quickly or on a weird diet plan, you WILL gain the weight back. Good luck and just take it a day at a time and don't berate yourself for mistakes. The website is http://www.sparkpeople.com

Question: Am I getting the proper nutrition? Tips and advice? I make a good effort at trying to eat healthy and maintain a healthy lifestyle , but recently I asked myself if I'm getting the proper nutrition for my routine.
I'm 19 , male, 5'9 150lb with a slim/athletic build, I love running and usually run 1 hour a day , 5-6 times a week. I also do light resistance training (abs/push-ups/ light weights) every other day.
Meals for a typical week are usually:
-Breakfast-
1 Large bowl of cereal (grape nuts + cheerios + 1-2 tbsp ground flax seed + 1 handful of plain oatmeal)
1 small mandarin orange
A little bit of cashews/almonds
- Lunch-
1 large bowl of lentils or 1 large bowl of black beans
1 fillet of fish or 1 large chicken breast or tuna salad
1 Serving of Broccoli or small bowl of guacamole ( 1/2 avocado + onions + tomatoes + garlic + jalapeño + lime )
- Dinner -
1 large glass of oatmeal banana milkshake made with 2 raw eggs and honey. or 1 cup of low fat greek yogurt
handful of baby carrots
and maybe a little bit of left over fish/chicken/beef etc.
-Snacks (throughout the day-
Lots of fruit (oranges/bananas/ cherries/ blueberries etc)
Nuts
Occasionaly chips
I don't drink soft drinks and haven't done so in the past 5 or so years, occasionally I'll drink a glass of fruit juice but the majority of the time I just drink water .
I don't drink alcohol or do drugs. (due to my faith)
I also take half a multivitamin a day.
Am I doing alright or am I overdoing some things?
I'm not trying to be a pro athlete or anything, I'm just trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stay in decent shape.
What tips or advice do you have regarding my nutrion/ exercise regime?
Thanks.
And don't think I don't enjoy my food, I'm quite happy with it, and of course I do occasionally eat a slice of pizza, cake, a hamburger, etc. I don't deprive myself of junk food cravings.
Answer: i found it very hard to get enough potassium unless i ate a potato... but if u take a multiv u should be fine
Question: Do you have any easy nutrition tips for me? I'll try to give you a some quick info. I have always had horribly unhealthy eating habits. Lots of sweats and soda. Lots of fast food, not necessarily because I like the taste (although I do like some of it) but because I don't cook much and I often miss meals which makes me very hungry so I want something quick. I have used to exercise on a regular basis 1-2 hours, 3-5 days a week, but then went for about 5 years without much activity. I started up again in the last 6 months. I don't have any other poor health habits. I don't smoke and I don't drink much. So there is the background.
I've already made some changes in my diet. I have already switch from drinking a lot of soda to drinking mostly water. I don't eat as many sweets or chips. I hardly eat at fast food places anymore. I try to cook meals in advance and keep them in the refrigerator or freeze so they can just be put in the microwave. I'm trying to snack on fruits and veggies more.
I don't want a "diet" plan. I am not going to completely cut out a certain food that I like, but I am willing to limit it. I'm not interested in counting calories (I know nothing about it and don't really care either.) I also don't' really no nutrition lingo. So any other easy tips, like the changes I've already made?
Also, how healthy or unhealthy is peanut butter. I eat quite a bit of it.
Answer: well, it sounds like you're already doing a pretty good job of eating healthier.
peanut butter is pretty healthy. you do have to be aware of your portion sizes because the serving size is only supposed to be 2 tbs. also, most peanut butters contain hygrogenated oils and some added sugar, so it's better for you to eat the all natural peanut butter. but altogether i'd say peanut butter would qualify as healthy.
eating lots of fruits and veggies is THEEE most important part of good nutrition, so if you're doing that, that's great. so, fruits and veggies are the most important thing to add, but there's a lot of debate about what's the most important thing to remove from your diet.
i would say sugar and refined starches are an important thing to get rid of. they mess your blood sugar levels all up and they're bad for your energy levels stuff. try to eat fewer carbs in general and whatever carbs you do eat should be whole grains.
too much animal fat is really bad too. try to steer more towards lean meats, and less meat in general. meat contains more carcinogenic (cancer-causing) stuff than vegetable food sources, so try to eat less meat. replace some of your meat with beans. i don't recommend eating a lot of soy stuff because it can mess up your hormone levels if you eat too much of it. regular beans are better than meat substitutes.
and i think eating a lot of soup helps you to be healthier. i am all about some soup. obviously don't go for the cheesy or creamy types of soups, but vegetable and bean soups are some of the healthiest good-tasting meals you can eat. if you think about it, soup is just water and veggies (and sometimes beans and meat) so it's pretty good for you.
Question: My Dwarf hamster may be pregnant? Any tips on telling and nutrition.? So, yes, my Roborovski Dwarf hamster may be pregnant. I am not sure what to do. If she does have babies, I want them to be healthy. Any tips?
Answer: well if you have previously checked it's weight it surely would've roise by about 1 ounce. and if you are sure she hasn't met up with any males shes not going to be pregnant.but to be sure it is important that you see a vet. if you wait a month when the babies are born you can keep them and for the first few days feed them just plain yogurt(untill they have teeth) or if you do not want them you can sell them to a store or call animal controll. i hope i helped pal! :D
oh yeah if you go to the vet and they say she is pregnant you should feed her alot of grapes, strawberries, bananas and any other soft fruit/veggie
