Nutritional Behavior
Question: Where does this controlling kind of behavior come from? I know someone who tells her daughters, sons in law, her grandchildren, and all visitors what to eat, what to drink, how much to eat and drink. Still, she has not a clue about some nutritional concepts like "cholesterol".
Answer: She gets away with it because they allow it. A bully will back down when confronted.
Question: How often as a parent do you buy your children presents relating to food and healthy eating? How often would you as a parent buy your children presents that promotes nutritional eating? Working on a business plan for a children's toy aimed at parents of children between the ages of 3-5 and trying to work out the seasonality of toy purchasing behavior. Any suggestions please??
Answer: My son just turned 4 and his grandmother bought him a toy shopping cart with plastic food.He has fruits and vegetables. He is autistic and doesn't talk but my 2 year old can now name the fruits and vegetables. She says "Cauliflower, eggplant, tomato, celery, etc." She pretends to eat them.
Other than that, I do not see what other toys there are that promote healthy eating (besides a food pyramid puzzle?). Since they have their plastic food, I will not be buying them anything else regarding healthy eating.
So to answer your question, NONE.
Question: My dog keeps chewing on glass and aluminum cans? My 9 month old pit bull/ lab mix keeps chewing and eating things like glass and aluminum cans. We've been very diligent about checking the yard before she goes out but we think she's getting it from the neighbor's yard (it looks like a nasty junkyard but that's a different problem). Could this behavior be caused by some sort of nutritional deficiency? What can we do? Unfortunately, she is outside most of the day while we are at work so we can't watch her 24/7 but, we don't feel good about tying her up. Any ideas?
Answer: Yes, I have an idea. Keep her in the house in a crate when you aren't home, for her safety. You WILL end up with a dead dog if YOU can't keep her safe. Do you want that hanging over your head? Her safety depends on YOU.

A) scientific observation.
B) a correlational design.
C) cross-sectional research.
D) a laboratory experiment.
10. Naturalistic observation would probably be the best choice for a researcher interested in:
A) beliefs of parents about the drinking behavior of their children.
B) adolescents' risky sexual behavior.

11. Which of the following statements comparing experiments with observations is true?
A) Observations allow the researcher greater control over the test conditions.
B) Experiments provide opportunity to examine more possible explanations.
C) Experiments better enable the researcher to observe causes and effects.
D) Conclusions from experiments apply more accurately to the real world.
12. Bandura (1973) was interested in whether watching violence affected children's behaviors. To examine this, he showed a violent film to one group of preschoolers and a nonviolent film to a second group of preschoolers. Following the films, the behaviors of the two groups were compared. Question: Will I See Improvement In My Goldfish's Behavior Immediately? Tomorrow (Let us hope), I am taking a short drive out to Petsmart and I will be purchasing my two-inch Baby Black Moor a new home, along with a snazzy new Aqua Clear 150/30 Power Filter, a brand new TopFin Gravel Vacuum (TopFin- Here We Go Again.) , new substrate and ornaments, a fresh can of Omega One Goldfish Sinking Pellets (Which I've heard are amazing for Goldies, as they are chock-full of important nutritional goodies), Nutrafin Cycle Biological Aquarium Supplement (To maintain a healthy, flourishing colony of beneficial bacteria), and a few other goodies to make his tank as healthy as possible. Keep in mind, he's transferring from a MUCH smaller tank that, although well-kept (water changes being done every 3-4 days and gravel cleaned religiously, as well as being fed and cared for appropriately), simply does not meet his requirements and will not do, as he is growing quite quickly and it would be terrible to let him suffer through stunting. I've actually been noticing (in his smaller tank) that he seems to be a little down, but is active, though not nearly as active as he should be for a healthy young Goldfish of his particular species, not to mention that he's got quite the happy-go-lucky attitude for a baby Black Moor. I think his current state is related to the lack of room that he has, and so I'm out to fix it. Will I see an improvement in his behavior when I switch him over to his new tank (after it's been cycled, of course)? How soon? Do you think his fantastic new supply of oxygenated water and new food will be better for him?
Thanks bunches! (:
Answer: sounds like a good thing your doing for your goldy. and the new supply will probably be better for him and bigger tank. and when you introduce him to the new tank. he you need a couple of days to get use to the changes. it sounds like he will be allot happier.
Question: I think my girlfriend is developing an Eating Disorder. What is the best way to discourage her behavior ? I think my girlfriend is developing an Eating Disorder. Actually, think is an understatement - I know my girlfriend is developing an Eating Disorder.
I'm not sure exactly what it is or what ( if anything ) has triggered it but I have got a strong feeling that it is the beginning of Anorexia.
She is certainly displaying the signs/symptoms of an Anorexic.
I know how serious and life dominating Anorexia is and I'm scared. I don't want her to live the rest of her life consumed by morbid thoughts and I certainly don't want her to start suffering from the physical effects. This is the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with, start a family with. I want her to be happy and enjoy life.
My question is, how can I put a stop to this behavior before it gets any worse ?
I have tried talking to her but all I got was a mouthful of abuse.
I'm not going to go into the details, but I will give you a few brief example of her behaviour:
She will not eat standard mash potatoes. Hers must be done seperatley - with no butter or milk.
She has begun reading the nutritional labels on food.
She has taken up compulsive exercising ans claims she is "getting fit"
She is "considering going vegeterian"
Another thing that worrys me is that my little sister is going to start picking up on this behaviour. She is only 16 and is already very underweight. Which yet again brings me onto another concern. I think my girlfriend views my sister as some sort of inspiration.
Answer: Ok I can see the concern, but your examples do not make me think she is becoming anorexic. All I see here is she wants to eat healthier (while yes maybe to extreme) and exercise. Don't push the subject because that will offend her. My ex-fiance' used to make me it super healthy and stuff, and would get mad at me for eating "bad foods" and it had a very damaging affect on my self image. I know waiting to see how it would develop is hard but I don't think you should just to any conclusions yet. If she's not throwing up, losing lots of weight, working out a very excessive amount, or not eating then you have a problem. I used to work out 6 days of the week and eat very healthy and I am a very tiny person. Don't make judgements yet. Do keep an eye out though, and just express your concern in a casual manor. Just ask why the change, and look for changes in her mood too. Also if she stops eating a lot and then you notice her eating an excessive amount that is a bad sign. One of my good friends used to be anorexic, so I know the signs.
Question: What are some good ways for a teacher to reward middle school students for good behavior? I have recently earned my teaching certification and just got a teaching job beginning in January at a middle school in an economically depressed area. I just came out of a student teaching situation at a pretty good school where for the most part, all you had to do was gripe at a child slightly and they would behave. However, I feel this teaching assignment I will need to do more.
So what are some good ways to reward economically deprived middle school students for good behavior besides free homework passes, free 100 passes and extra points on a test? I'm desperate here. By the way, I do live in Texas and here we are not allowed to give students candy or "food of minimal nutritional value." Thanks a lot.
Answer: go to the dollar store, walmart, target, etc and get some cheapo school supplies and items that kids would really like (photo key chains, pencil sharpeners, packs of pencils, packs of markers, journals, etc.). put these all in a prize bin (I generally have 20 items in my bin at roughly a buck a piece.
get yourself a clipboard and have a list of your students on that list. when the students do something good say "i like the way _______ is _________" and put a check next their name. then put a few more checks next to others' names. if you walk your kids to their prep classes, pass the clipboard to that teacher and instruct them to reward good behavior, and take away any checks for bad behavior.
each friday, you can let a small group of children pick from your prize bin. you can do this in many ways. you can pick the top 3 students with the most checks, or you can put the kids on teams so the same 3 kids aren't always winning.
Question: What's the best way to effectively lose weight? I've tried many diet/nutritional plans and have a tough time staying with them without slipping back to my old eating behaviors.
Answer: For me I'm only successful when I keep track of everything I eat. I use www.thedailyplate.com to track my calories and my exercise.
Question: Is there some link between bad mood at morning (6am) and have dinner late at night (11pm)? Doubt about human fisiology and nutritional behavior
Answer: I've never read anything drawing a direct link between dinner and mood the following morning, however if you're eating that late at night you aren't getting the ideal 7-8 hours sleep per night, which will definitely affect mood. Diet does affect sleep patterns, which in turn affect mood, so if you're eating that late stick to light meals with only whole-grain carbs and no red meat. Eat your big meal at lunch.

xxx
Thanks for all the great ideas everyone....also, keep in mind it has to be 8-10 pages. and i need a interview as a SOURCE...sorry i didnt mention that, and it need alot of info on a particular topic....thanks!
Answer: How hasn't media affected the world, our lives are based on it...We can't hardly function without...I've gone 4 years without tv and those were the most freeing 4years of my life, I had little or no stress, and could make decisions on my own....as far as music, it's the same thing...there is one station...www.klove.com, that is worth listening too, all the other stuff, is telling our young girls, that they need to have sex, and be sexy...and we can't hardly raise young boys with all the same pressure's.....Unfortunately the way we eat, has influence out children, and has been hazardous to us.....as far as the internet...my husband and I finally got our first computer 7 months ago....I'm actually shocked at how accessible porn or any image of a naked person is so readily available....I thought it was for learning, I guess it's for alot more...it's too bad.
Question: My man eats like a football player, but he's NOT. How do I curb his appetite? I love my husband, but he has the world's worst nutritional behavior. He used to be a football player, but he's 34 now, and he hasn't played sports in years. He still eats like he did when he was training, though!
He wants to lose weight, because he will be starting a physical training program for his career in law enforcement. But he thinks that if he starves himself all day, and then has a huge dinner right before he goes to sleep, that he's going to get healthy.
He's a very intelligent man, so I can't understand why he gorges himself on all kinds of crap when we have a kitchen full of healthy foods.
So guys, I'm asking you... How in the world can I educate my man?
1. I already cook every meal.
2. I make sure there are good foods to eat that are easy to prepare if I'm not around.
3. We already work out together, and also individually.
4. Pills are a no-no.
5. I know I'm not his mom, but I AM his wife. I care about him and his health. I love him.
Answer: Men get math and numbers. Have him figure it out and see for himself how many calories he needs. You can go here: http://www.sheerbalance.com/nutrition_calculators.html?gclid=CKH1vICojpECFRk0awodSEJNGg
and have him just chug in the information, then show him how to read the nifty food information panels on everything--like the junk in the cabinets he gorges himself on. If he really wants to lose weight, once he sees the numbers and does the math, he'll be more receptive to changing his habits.
As for the gorging himself on crap... there's no reaching him on this. The crap must be gone, plain and simple, or he will eat it. Men are creatures of habit like you wouldn't believe. We do the same things day in and day out because we can and it's familiar and will only change those habits out of sheer necessity. You tell him how much better he'll feel if he loses the weight, how hard he'll have to work when he starts that physical training program and he doesn't really want to be the dude in the back huffing and puffing on the treadmill, and if all else fails you use straight up guilt that you have no intentions of letting him eat his way to a heart attack, whatever it takes to get him to accept that the crap will no longer be purchased and kept in the house. At that point, if he wants to eat, he'll find something he likes out of the healthier foods in the house.
Try a wide variety of healthy foods to get this to work. Remember that men like different foods and crave different foods than women. If he can't live without ice cream, you get him sorbet. Carnivore on your hands? Beef jerky is an excellent source of lean protein. Fast-food burger addict? Keep lean hamburger or ground turkey in the house, and get you some burger recipes of this here internet thing. Be creative, try things you never thought of--breakfast, dinner, snack foods, whatever he eats in the house make like Martha Stewart and introduce him to the wide array of healthier eating options he has and you will be able to find foods that he enjoys enough to make them his new habits. It'll be tough, but it can be done.
Question: Nutritional supplements that assist with weight loss? I am 5'2" and currently 172 pounds with a decently muscular build (under all the excess weight, that is...). My goal weight to get within the normal BMI range where I would be healthy is 136 pounds. I am not looking for any "quick fixes," so please don't bother recommending the pink patch, things like that. I have a diet and exercise plan worked out. What I am looking for is any suggestions - backed by research and/or experience - for vitamin or nutritional supplements that might assist me in the endeavor.
I know I'm going to have to work at it, and I've heard of supplements that will increase your metabolism and things like that as long as you're already changing your diet and exercise behaviors. Do any of these work? Are there any safe and all-natural appetite suppressants that could help with my cravings (I have a terrible sweet tooth)? I'm willing to try anything as long as it's safe and not putting my body in danger. Thanks!
Answer: You have a sweet tooth because you eat junk food. All you need to do is do a yeast cleanse, you can also take chlorophyll, blue green algae, and something for glucose support to control your blood sugars. You can also take a tsp of braggs apple sider vinegar before each meal to control the glycemic index level of the food you eat. Braggs is the only kind that works.
Question: What would be a good minor for a Nutritional Science major? I'm currently a Nutritional Science major (Food Service Administration option). I hope to one day work at an organic/natural foods company (such as Kashi) or to work advocating healthy eating to kids in schools or something of that nature. I'm only a freshman but I'm trying to figure things out. I'm currently minoring in Environmental Policy, Institution, and Behaviors, but would like to pursue a double minor to reach my minimum credit requirement for graduation and to give myself a little bit of an advantage for prospective employers. Any ideas for a good minor? Thanks.
Answer: A business minor will probably be most helpful in finding a good job, particularly if you concentrate in marketing. Marketing is all about advocating, even if it is done in very subtle ways.
Question: Why is it hypocritical if a gay politician sees his behavior as a vice? I don't understand how the liberal media can portray Senator Roy Ashburn as a hypocrite. Do all smokers have to claim that it's healthy and nutritional? Of course not. Just because Ashburn was cruising for boy/boy late at night, he has ever right to fight against the liberal gay militant agenda during the day. His supporters wanted him to defend the sanctity of marriage against alternative lifestylers and he did that. What he does under the sheets with young Latino boys is his own business.
I should clarify that I mean if he chooses young boys so that he can remain the 'male' in the relationship (ie insertee) then there is no risk of HIV for his family or his daughters right? We all sin occasionally, so how is Ashburn any different from any other God fearing Christian?
Answer: How do you know he viewed his behavior as a vice?
Maybe he views being gay as who he really is and had a hard time with the antiquated and hateful laws his party thinks are quaint to mandate on a minority group to tell them how to live their lives.
I'm just sayin.
Question: Which career would these qualifications fit? Which career consists of all/most/some of these qualifications?
-Bachelor's degree in Nutritional Sciences (Food Service Administration option) with minors in Plant Science and Environmental Policy, Behavior, and Institutions
-Biggest interest in organic/natural foods and agriculture
-Love of outdoors
-Love of animals
-Love of children
-Love of travel and seeing new places/things
-Good computer skills (typing rate of 125+ words per minute)
Any ideas or suggestions would be great... thanks! :)
-Also good writing skills!
Answer: Director at a weight-loss camp or fitness center (for adults or children) would apply most of them.
If you can type 125+ words minute, you can make a ton of money as a freelance transcriptionist while you're looking for that perfect job. Impressive!
Question: Why does the headline state "Study Links Diet Soft Drinks With Cardiac Risk" when the story says otherwise? If you read through the Yahoo! Health story, it states that, "Vasan, who noted that he is not a nutritional expert, said he leans toward the theory that "this is a marker of dietary behavior" -- that people who like to drink sweet soda also like to eat the kind of foods that cardiac nutritionists warn against.
"But we cannot infer causality," Vasan said, meaning there is no proof that soda itself is the villain. "We have an association. Maybe it is a causal one or maybe it is a marker of something else."
So if it is the diet that causes cardiac risk, why does the headline directly state that it is soft drinks?
Answer: It was an attention grabbing headline. Many small publications use that ploy to catch your attention, a good example will be tabloid magazines at the cash out register area of the local grocery stores. The real story will be dissapointing to say the least.
"Monster alligator strolls downtown" or something like that. Do you ever buy the magazines?
That story also caught my eye but not enough to make me click on it. However, if I drank diet soda, I might have, like you did.
