Question: What is the most nutritious dried fruit available in the market at the moment? What is the most nutritious dried fruit available in the market at the moment?
Answer: cranberries
Question: What is the best nutritious dog food for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel? So what is the most nutritious dog food? I currently feed my dog Eukanuba Dog Food. Is Pedigree better? Or Hills Diet? Or the cheaper ones you find in the supermarket? Thanks in advance.
Answer: All the foods you listed are low quality. I wouldn't feed them to my dog even if I got a free lifetime supply.
=== === ===
Read the ingredients before you buy.
Here is my "short list" of rules when I am looking at dog food ingredients:
1) When I chose a dog food, I chose one high meat content. I want to see preferably at least 2-3 out of the top 5 ingredients be meat or meat meal (first ingredient must be!). Meal is simply the meat with the moisture removed.
2) I want to see higher quality grains, such as barley, brown rice, and oatmeal, instead of seeing wheat and corn. Or an alternative starch/carbohydrate such as potatoes or sweet potatoes.
3) I don't want to see any byproducts.
4) I don't want to see a lot of fillers.
5) I don't want to see preservatives that are believed to be carcinogens (BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin).
6) I don't want to see artificial colorings such as the Red, Blue, and Yellow dyes.
7) I don't want to see added sugars (sugar, corn syrup).
8) I don't want to see mystery meats (meats identified only as "meat" or "poultry".)
Here is an article about byproducts:

There is no food that is the *best*, different individual dog may thrive on different foods. What is best for one may not be the best for the next. And just because a food is good quality, it doesn't mean it will jive the best for your dog.
What you want to find is the HIGH-QUALITY food that *your dog* does best on.
Here are some examples of GOOD dog foods:
* Artemis
* Blue Buffalo
* California Natural
* Canidae
* Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul
* Eagle Pack Holistic Selects
* EVO
* Fromm
* Innova
* Merrick
* Nature's Variety
* Orijen
* Solid Gold
* Taste of the Wild
* Wellness
* ZiwiPeak
Or check this website; the 4, 5, or 6 star rated foods are all good foods. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

Higher quality food may seem more expensive at first, but it evens out. The higher quality the food, the less fillers eaten (and therefore the less poop comes out the other end). Your dog eats more of a low-quality food to try to get the nutrition it needs, and most of the food just passes right on through. Also, higher-quality food will make your animals healthier, so you save money on vet bills in the long run.
---
What *NOT* to buy:
Stay away from grocery stores brands. They are low-quality foods chalk full of fillers, preservatives, dyes, etc.. (Grocery store foods are those like Beneful, Old Roy, Alpo, Pedigree, Purina, etc.)
Beware "premium" foods. "Premium" does not always mean good nutritionally, and is not a nutritionally high quality food. Most of these foods have the same types of ingredients as grocery store foods, just a bit better quality of those not-so-good ingredients. (Premium foods are those like Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Bil-Jac, Royal Canin, etc..)
Another thing to be wary of: A lot of vets will recommend what they sell in their office. They get profit from the brands they keep on their shelves, that's why they push it. Truth is, vet schools don't focus a lot on nutrition. It's not saying that a vet is a bad vet because he recommends those foods, a lot of vets just are told "this is good food", so they pass the message along without proper nutrition knowledge. Also, some dog food brands (like Hills) support vet schools, so vets have heard of it from the time they start college, which makes them think it's good as well.
Hills company, the makers of Science Diet, are heavily involved in vet schools. "Hill's scientists author more than 50 research papers and textbook chapters each year and teach at leading schools of veterinary medicine" (Source of quoted section: http://www.hillsvet.com/zSkin_2/company_info/company_info_general.jsp?JSESSIONID=HMz2B3Jn3hv0rnSoxCobfbBhOec35ODG7yh5t3P0vcvhOtzRlQ9M!598359213!167846923!7005!8005&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302026072&bmUID=1196192566575 )

"Big box" petstores like Petco and Petsmart rarely have quality foods. (There are some higher quality foods at those locations, but most of the foods aren't.) If shopping at Petco or Petsmart, look for:
* Blue Buffalo
* Castor & Pollux
* Eagle Pack Holistic Selects
* Natural Balance
* Pinnacle
* Solid Gold
* Wellness
Also, grocery stores and Walmart aren't good places to buy food either.
Your best bets for getting quality dog food are:
- small, locally owned petstores
- dog boutiques
- farm supply stores

When switching foods, do it gradually. I do this over about a two week timespan:
25% food A, 75% food B
50% food A, 50% food B
75% food A, 25% food B
100% food A
.
Question: I need some help on nutritious and healthy foods to buy at the grocery store? I'm starting my diet (or lifestyle change if you want to call it that) and I need to get some groceries. Any tips on some wise choices for filling, low fat, and nutritious foods?
I'm already planning on picking up a big bag of those boneless skinless chicken breasts, some baby spinach leaves (for salad), and some fruits (not sure which would be best)
I really need ideas. I don't want to be eating the same stuff over and over but I don't want to buy too much either.
Answer: Good for you! I'd add the following:
variety of fruits and vegetables (raw) like apples, citrus, pears, carrots, celery, brocolli, cauliflower, zucchini.
Raw nuts, especially almonds for snacking
Lowfat yogurt--NOT Yoplait or Dannon--they contain high fructose corn syrup which is WAY bad for your system--try the organic ones that have cane sugar.
Lowfat cottage cheese, perhaps lowfat mozarella cheese sticks for snacks (protein makes a good snack)
Stay away from carbonated beverages! http://www.mindconnection.com/library/health/softdrinks.htm
Another word on high fructose corn syrup: http://www.mindconnection.com/library/health/softdrinks.htm HFCS does not allow your body to get the signal that it's full. This little mixture can actually make you feel hungrier! So stay away from it as much as possible.
Choose your foods wisely!

Question: How nutritious is alfalfa bedding to my baby sulcata? I just bought the baby sulcata and put alfalfa bedding in his terrarium today but he just eats it. I know it's okay for him to digest but he isn't eating his real food. He's just chowin down on the alfalfa meal. Is this nutritious at all for him? Should i just stick to newspaper?
Answer: Grasses are their real food, so it will be fine if it eats that. It is perfectly fine to feed them grasses such as alfalfa and Timothy hay.
Question: Is minute/instant rice less or more nutritious than regular rice? I love regular rice cooked with garlic, oil, onions, but that takes at least 30 minutes. When i want rice with like steamed veggies, it is so much quicker to use the minute rice, but i am wondering if it is less nutritious.
Answer: In terms of actual nutrition there is not that big a difference between long grained white rice and instant rice.
Instant rice is just white rice that has been processed by cooking it and then dehydrating it. In the US most but not all of the nutrients are added back in. The problem is that white rice just isn't that nutritious to begin with. If you are interested in nutrition then brown rice is the way to go. The difference between brown and white rice is not just the color.
To produce brown rice, only the outer layer, the hull, is removed. The bran, which still remains, contains B vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc and magnesium. The process that converts brown rice into white rice removes the bran along with most of its nutrients. I cook large batches of brown rice and under cook it by about 5 minutes and then divide it up into ziplock bags and freeze them. When I need rice for a meal all I have to do is pop the frozen rice into a bowl and heat in the microwave. You can also do the same thing with white rice.
Here is the basic info for White rice

Question: Where can I find a good source of nutritious recipes? Due to the over-whelming commercialization of the food industry coming by good nutritional recipes has proved to be quite difficult for me, so if anyone knows of any credible books and/or websites that can prove actual nutritious recipes it would be much appreciated. Please, no fad diets, get thin quick schemes or anything of that sort I just want to ensure that I keep my health in good condition, after all what greater wealth does one than their health?
Thank you, and remember you are what you eat.

Answer: foodtv.com - Food Network has weekly meal plans. Robin Miller, on the Food Network has a show which shows how you can transform one main item-Roasted chicken, Turkey tenderloin, etc. into many different meals throughout the week. Her recipes are fairly easy to follow. Search for Robin Miller, under "find a show" once you're on the food network website. Her show is called "quick fix meals". If you look around you will find a full week schedule of dinners. I just checked for it to tell you where it is but can't seem to find it again. Should be there somewhere.
Congrats on being a parent...again!!
Hope this helps. Happy Cooking.
Question: What is the most nutritious brand of treat for guinea pigs? I'm getting a guinea pig in a week and I've been reading up on them. I read somewhere that some name brand treats such as yogurt bites are not healthy for the guinea pigs. I was wondering if there are any, what is the most healthy or nutritious kind of treats?
Answer: Usually anything brightly coloured is unhealthy.
If you want to give them treats look for something naturally coloured, which will usually be green or brown as this wont contain any colourings and will be healthier and easier for them to digest.
I don't usually buy treats for my guinea pigs as I give them their favourite foods instead: Grass and Parsley.
Question: What are the most nutritious canned vegetables? I am preparing our annual hurricane kit, and need to know what the most nutritious canned vegetables are to put in the kit. This is assuming we have eaten all of our fresh and frozen vegetables. Sometimes hurricane zones can be left without power for two weeks.
Answer: Most green vegetables which are rich in vitamin C loose there vitamins through heat and water in the canning process.
Vitamin A however is not lost in this way because it is a fat soluble vitamin.
Carrots and other red and orange vegetables contain vitamin A. So if you are going for nutrients choose tinned carrots or pimentoes.
Sweetcorn would also be a good one, with lots of dietary fibre, as would tinned tomatoes.
I hope this helps and I hope the hurricane is not too bad.

Question: Is the rind of a watermelon the most nutritious part of the fruit? I heard that the skins of fruits are the most nutritious. Is this true for watermelon rinds? If so does it outweigh the dangers of ingesting potential pesticides?
Answer: The general rule of thumb is that the skin is the most nutritious part of the fruit or veggie.
However, since most people don't eat the rind, unless pickled, then any nutritional information is based upon eating the meat (pulp) of the watermelon.
supposedly, the red part contains a lot of lycopene which is supposed to be a good anti-oxidant.
Question: What is the most nutritious homemade bread recipe? I made bread in a breadmaker at home in order to avoid all the artificial crap they put in bread at the store (and the high price of the bread that does not have that crap in it!) - I've gotten the process down for making basic white/whole wheat/potato bread and now I am looking for the most nutritious recipe of bread I can find, as my kids will eat it up!
Answer: I always look for sales on the bread and know the few that I like and that are good for me. I buy extras and but some in the freezer so I will have it when it is not on sale. Do a google for a recipe and make sure it is high in fiber.
Question: Growing Sweet Potatoes-most nutritious vegetable you can grow at home? I live in Los Angeles. I own a house in a older section of town, that has very long backyards. I would like to grow the most nutritious food I possibly could. According to wikipedia, that is Sweet Potatoes. Is that true? And are they hard to grow?
Answer: use seed potatoes don't buy the ones you eat and plant them. do you like them ? they are nutritious ,but if you don't like them much you won't get the value.
Question: What are some light-weight nutritious packaged foods? I want to send a care package over seas to a friend who is really low on money atm. What are some light weight foods that are actually nutritious? She doesn't need junk like ramen, but actual dinner meals. Any ideas?
Answer: I don't think you could find anything that your describing that isn't junk food. I guess you could do oatmeal, (don't forget the sugar) that's really nutritious, or granola bars or ricecakes. There are these packets of different kinds of pasta that you can buy, all you have to do is add milk but its not the healthiest thing...sorry I can't be of more help!
Question: What are some cheap and nutritious vegetables? I'm trying to eat better, but for vegetables I tend to eat a lot of roasted potatoes, which aren't bad but not the most nutritious, and it could get boring. So I'm looking for some vegetables I might not have tried and aren't expensive (i.e. I'm not looking for something like fiddleheads) and maybe some simple cooking suggestions. Thanks!
Answer: Well, you can roast just about ANY vegetables! Roasted cauliflower and carrots are great! Carrots are probably the cheapest veggie you can get. Go to a farmer's market, and you can find seasonal veggies there: zucchini, tomatoes, etc. Sliced, raw cucumbers are inexpensive, but don't peel them (most nutrients are in the skin) .... Baked sweet potatoes & yams have alot of vitamins. You can find big bags of frozen green beans, which have virtually the same nutrients as fresh beans, but are much cheaper...... You can stirfry all kinds of greens: spinach, collard, mustard, collard & dandelion - or make spinach salads.......
