Obesity
Question: obesity..........? what do you think of obesity?
Answer: Uhm ~ I think it's a problem nowadays. But I do think it's sad how so many companies are also promoting all those icky foods, convenience things, and portion sizes that caused all the weight gain. Like video games and such.
But I also think it's great that a lot of my friends who are overweight are really trying to lose weight. I have a lot of respect for people who choose to lose weight.

Question: How is Childhood Obesity a present and future threat to america? I am doing a research paper on chilhood obesity for my english class. I already have the causes, effects, prevention, and statistics of childhood obesity. All i need to write now is how childhood obesity is a present and future threat to america. Any ideas or links to articles will be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Rather or not one supports the currents wars that America is in, we do need a military and the obesity of children will threaten our ability to protect ourselves in the future. The military has released reports stating a lot of recruits have been turned away due to their physical condition.
Also, being overweight increases the health problems in kids which could lead to more days missed at school. Our education system is already struggling to educate kids so the more school a kid misses do to illnesses, the least likely he/she is going to grow up to be a doctor, engineer, scientist, inventor, etc. Then there's payment of the illnesses, cost of insurance will go up for everyone.
So not only will be not be able to protect ourselves from outside forces, we won't be able to support or care for ourselves, we will be at the mercy of other powerful nations, and that is never a good thing.
Question: When did people start to realized that obesity is spreading throughout the world? I am doing a research paper on worldwide obesity. And one question that I have to answer in my paper is when did this issue come up? I know when it became a public problem in the United States but does anyone know when obesity came into the public attention worldwide in general? Thank you.
Answer: Obesity around the world follows directly from the spreading of the American culture.
Follow the McDonalds...and you will have your answer, :)
Question: How did Obesity begin to affect the united states? I need some information but I dont want to use the web because I need to cite the information. I would like some help from a couple of you. how did obesity begin in united states? how does obesity affect people psychologically?
Answer: You are using the web & you cannot offically use us as references. I suggest that you look up articles & medical journals, which you can find on the web.
Here's where I would start:
Fast food, the cost of fast food is cheaper sometimes and more convenient.
Video Games- Children aren't as active and do not get enough exercise.
Generational obesity & disease (diabetes).
Good luck!
Question: What are some ways to decrease obesity in children? If you notice, more and more children are becoming obese. In fact, children are expected to live five years less than their parents because of obesity. In fact, a stunning 17% of kids aged 2-19 years old in the USA are obese. What are some ways to implement change in nations where there are fast food chains on every block?
Should a really abuse child be concidered as 'neglected'?
I meant should obesity in children be concidered neglect.
Answer: I don't think obesity in a child should be considered neglect on the part of the parents. I'm not trying to say obesity is a wonderful thing or parents don't have a responsibility to their children. Maybe these parents make bad choices for their kids in letting them become obese---parents make bad choices all the time---but a mistake isn't necessarily a crime. I'd be inerested to see how many of the 17% (a stat I'm hesitant to accept unconditionally) have parents who are obese as well.
As far as what people can do when "there are fast food chains on every block" (not to mention processed food for sale in supermarkets) is to be more aware of the food that they buy. Do things like check the nutritional content on the back of the items---how many calories of fat, how much is trans. fat, how much sodium etc. Also, stop buying stuff like soda, junk food---or, like my parents did, just buy one dessert or other snack while everything else is healthy.
Finally--and this can be a bit difficult when people are always working---COOK YOUR OWN FOOD. At least then you'll know what goes into what you and your kids are eating
Question: What body parts are affected by obesity? I need the scientific names of the parts.
Ideally, I would like the names of the fats that get really large, etc... I know about the heart and kidneys and stuff, but I need the names of the fats that directly get really large due to obesity. The scientific names of the fat sections/tissues please. Thanks!
Answer: Not sure if fats can get bigger(other than longer chain length), fat cells and fat tissue can get larger.
Triacylglycerol is the scientific name of fats. Adipose tissue is the bodies fat storage site.
Just wiki those two and you should be able to find the info you want. Or wiki fat.
On re-reading the question: you legs will be affected; increased weight means increased pressure on joints. Skin will be affected; fat folds can get skin sores in their creases from friction. The whole body will be fed with less oxygenated blood as it has to work much harder to get through the circulatory system due to compressed and clogged vessels.
Peace yo,
U.D
Question: What influence has America had on obesity in other countries? I am writing a research paper and my thesis is (basically) American fast food influence has caused obesity to sky rocket in other countries around the world instead of just confined here. Please, only post credible sources. Thank you.
Answer: KFC, McDonald have branches almost in all the country and they adding to the obesity population of the world
Question: What is the correlation between diabetes and obesity? It has been obsereved that Diabetes occurs in people suffering from obesity. There should be some correlation between the two. This may be due to some physioloic, genetic, immunologic or some other factor. As a student of biotechnology,i wanted to know the precise relation between them and the mechanism by which they affect each other.I would also be thankful if some good websites for exploration of this topic are suggested.
Answer: if you eat too much food you get fat and then get all kinds of medical problems that taxpayers have to pay for
stop eating so much fatsos
Question: How does structural functionalism relate to childhood obesity? I know what structural functionalism is, but I can't figure out how it relates to childhood obesity. Thanks alot for your help!
Answer: are you looking for explanations that might come from structural functionalists? If you are, i like to think of it as a bit of a guessing game, as you can sort of spin a lot of the potential explanations assuming you dont have to do any large scale research to back it up.
If i was to hazard an explanation from that perspective i would say increases in the definition and application of medical labels such as childhood obesity help to supplement and augment a growing biomedical field which will be one of the essential sectors of the economy going forward. It therefore makes sense to use childhood obesity specifically, because the sooner that an individual can be integrated into the system, the more controlled the relationship between the individual and the medical system will be.
Question: What are some reasons why the occurrence of obesity in children is increasing? What are some of the long term consequences that these children can face in their lifetime? What does the Web site tell you about obesity that you were not aware of before? Explain what you have learned.
Answer: because the parents dont really care what goes in their bodies.
these children basically feed themselves, eating what ever is on the counter. meaning chips, cookies, and juices from the fridge.
pop, snacks.
its really sad, i have a cousin like this. she's 4.
i feel so bad for her, cause she the sweetest little thing.
Question: How did obesity become a serious problem in America? And if you believe obesity is not a problem, then please tell me how.
Answer: Because of everything has sugar added to it, or is made of white flour (all the nutrients are bleached out of it)
Plus America's gluttony is the number one cause of that problem
Question: How should I start my speech on child obesity? I have to write a speech on child obesity, if anyone could give me some tips on what to write that would be great.
Answer: a numbers fact on obesity, or a quote would do just fine
Question: What is the largest charity associated with Childhood Obesity? I've recently come into a good deal of money and wanted to donate a portion of it into the following categories, as I find them to be very important:
1) Childhood Obesity
2) Breast Cancer
3) Heart Disease
4) Rain Forest
If anyone can supply information for these categories, I'd be very grateful. I have already checked out a few places, but I want to see if I missed anything. Thank you.
Answer: Great question! Always look for local charities and grassroots organizations that have fewer ties with corporate business. For example, American Heart Association gets lots of money from big business and rich doctors who make millions from expensive heart surguries that people may not even need...
Question: What does Colorado do to have the lowest obesity rate in the US? Obesity rates in the states are climbing. Colorado's rate is also growing but yet they still maintain the lowest obese rate in the whole United States. What is this due to?
Answer: Fresh air that encourages people to go outside and be active, instead of stuck in the suburbs or inside their country homes due to nasty weather. That's my opinion. But look at this website.. http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20080717/7-slimming-tips-from-the-skinniest-state?page=2 it explains some of the main factors.
Question: What do you think of the normalization of obesity? For example, celebrities such as Orah and Monique routinely declare that fat is beautiful, and that thin people are unhealthy and unrealistic. It's funny how criticism of skinny girls is perfectly OK and politically correct, but if you mention 1 word about obese women, you are Satan incarnate. Why are the feelings and insecurities of thin girls less valuable than obese girls?
Anyway. Do you think reframing obesity as a positive, healthy thing is a good idea?
Answer: No, obesity is not a healthy idea. It is attractive to many people and by no means makes a person bad or stupid, but it is unhealthy. Being an obese person myself, I have thought a lot about this. Flavor is addictive. Foods that taste good are very addictive, Just think of kids and candy, If allowed, they will eat it all day everyday. When we get older our tastes change, we want a more mature flavor, but that addiction is still there, just in a different form. Americas economic success inevitably brought about the ready availability of rich, tasty foods. And they are available to us at any time of any day. This makes it feel like a sacrifice to go on a diet and/or eat healthy. But what do we do? We can't just shut down all these major food companies and farmers and historic food developments by stopping them from being produced, thats just not realistic. I'm sure our forefathers imagined the feasts and evolution of the American quisine, but they could not even imagine how rampant the obesity and poor health would overwhelm us. And even if they did, they surely would not have known what to do whilst still upholding human freedom. Its an inevitability of any truly successful civilization. Education is the only way to fix this. We can't just make people be healthy, we have to convince them to want to be healthy more than they want to eat good food. I'm still waiting to be convinced myself. Education is the only redemption for our country, and I don't mean standard school education, I mean basic everyday common sense education, this is where we are lacking.
