Question: Does Omega 3 fatty acids cure depression? Someone on YA said that Omega 3 fatty acids produces and increases serotonin in our brain and has other benefits that help us against depression and mood swings. They also said that many ppl have claimed to be totally healed from depression after using Omega 3 fatty acids.
Can anyone confirm this?
Answer: I don't think so. If you have clinical depression, you need professional help. If it is mild depression anything can help, even placebo. It is not unusual to feel depressed at this time of year. Could you suffer from seasonal affective disorder? If you do get the SAD light and use it as directed.
Question: What part of the fish contains the omega 3 fatty acids? my friend says it is mostly in the skin of the fish? She claims her deli person said that most of the omega 3 is in the skin.
Answer: Your deli person is wrong. The omega 3 fatty acids are found in all parts of the fish, especially in the flesh of the meat. That is actually only true if the fish is wild and NOT farm raised. Like the cows that are being fed grain, the farmed fish are being fed feed that the fish do not normally eat in the wild. This has caused them to be severely deficient in omega 3 fatty acids and high in omega 6 fatty acids. The same problem that has happened to cows eating in feed lots.
This makes the fish unhealthy and that is why they feed them so much antibiotics. The way you can tell if a fish is farm fed or wild is to look at their fat. The farm fed fish have many streaks of fat running in the meat; whereas the wild fish have very little fat in the meat, just like grain fed cows that are very unhealthy for the same reason.
It's much cheaper to have farm raised fish and grain fed cows and they get fatter faster. It's just another way the food industry has corrupted our food supplies and just another reason Americans are head to head with being the sickest nation in the world.
I would hope some of the other countries in the world will start sending missionaries to the U.S. to show people how to have good food. The U.S. now ranks 45th in longevity. That means 44 countries in the world have people living longer than Americans do.
good luck to you

Azss E, this is not about weight loss. this is about long life.
Answer: Having lived in Okinawa for over 2 years, I can say that their long life expectancy is attributed to many factors. However, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are beneficial. It is also important to remember that once the body has gotten its requirement of essential fatty acids (all that it can use), the rest simply become empty calories.

Answer: One type of polyunsaturated fat, omega-3 fatty acids is especially beneficial to your heart. Omega-3s decreases the risk of coronary artery disease. Omega-3s also protects against irregular heartbeats and help lower blood pressure levels.
Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats found mostly in seafood. Good sources of omega-3s include fatty, cold-water fish, such as salmon, mackerel and herring. Flaxseeds, flaxseed oil and walnuts also contain omega-3 fatty acids, and small amounts are found in canola and soybean oils.

Question: Prenatal Vitamins and Omega 3 fatty acids? I'm not pregnant yet, but my doctor told me to start taking prenatal vitamins (which I am) and I am wondering about Omega 3 fatty acids...are they also good to be taking now? Will my baby benefit from them??? I should also mention I am a vegetarian.
Answer: Yes, they are good. I know this, it helps prevent heart attack and stroke. The baby will also get these essential vitamins and nutrients. Omega 3 is fish oil. Very good for soft skin as well. Vegetarian, well, that's ok for that too. Doesn't mean your eating fish, just means it's fish oil. Like vegetable oil.
Question: What are other sources for Omega-3 fatty acids besides fish? I'm allergic to fish, but I still need Omega-3. Does anyone know what foods have a good amount?
Answer: Get Flax Seed Oil supplements, or Fish Oil supplememnts. I did this and it clears up your skin flawlessly in less than a month. From what I know, I think its only in Fish.
Question: How much omega-3 fatty acids "fish oil concentrate" should I take a day? I have 1000 mg softgel tablets. And I don't have anything wrong with me for health besides RA but I just want to take this for the benefits behind it. So what is the daily dose for everyone??
Answer: I have very high cholesterol. I usually take one no more than two of the kind I use, but then again I also try to eat tuna, or salmon, herring or sardines everyday as part of my diet. My favorite product is Natrol (tm) Omega-3 Complex. It not only has certified distilled purified fish oil, but it also contains flax seed and borage Oil. Just remember that too much of one thing is not good for you.
Question: What are some good vegetarian sources of the Omega 3 fatty acids? They say that people my age and older should eat lots of salmon, etc. but I'm trying to go vegetarian (or at least as close as possible) so I'd like some alternatives.
Answer: I believe walnuts are good source of omega 3. Also, they are low crab.
Question: What are some foods high in omega 3 fatty acids? Also what are some foods that help with the female hormone estrogen?
Answer: Fish (especially salmon and cod)
Olives and olive oil (raw, preferably)
Flax and flax oil (raw)
Hemp and hemp oil (raw)
Almonds (raw)
Walnuts (raw)
Pumpkin seeds
Sunflower seeds (raw)
And when you mean "help with the female hormone estrogen", what exactly is the problem? Not enough of it? In that case, soy products are good for that, especially straight soy beans and soy milk. They contain phyto-estrogens which are in the estrogen family. They can help balance you out. Men aren't actually supposed to eat so much soy because it can literally feminize you in certain aspects. My friend ate too much soy and started losing the hair on his chest. It should be fine for women, though.
Question: can you get too much Omega 3 fatty acids during pregnancy? if so, how much would you have to take? could you get too much just by eating a lot of foods high in Omega 3s? in one day or over the course of days?, or would you need to take a supplement to "over dose" on it?
thanks!
Answer: While it may be possible to overdose -I think it's unlikely with your normal diet and vitamin routine because once you reach a certain point - your body eliminates what it doesn't need.
Question: How do I get complete omega-3 fatty acids if I'm a vegetarian? I know flax seed oil provides ALA, but what about the EPA and DHA types? Does this only come from fish or can it be absorbed from plant products?
Answer: Fish has a lot of omega-3 fatty acids, and it's not a vegetable, so you can eat it.
Question: Can dogs use the same omega 3 fatty acids that I buy over the counter. cheaper than the 30 bucks at pet store 30 dollars at the pet store, and 10 bucks for flax seed oil at Wal-mart. Human quality usually is better but I am not sure that it will not make my dogs sick.
Answer: Using human omega fatty acid supplements won't hurt your dog. However, be sure to compare the concentration of the human supplement and the one at the pet store. Often times the human supplements are less concentrated than the pet products and in those cases you really don't end up saving any money.
As for quality, there is a WIDE range of quality in both human and pet supplements. Supplements and vitamins are NOT regulated by the FDA, so some of the human supplements are actually far lower quality than some of the pet supplements.
