Omega 3 Supplements
Question: Are there any good Omega 3 supplements for kids? My child's doctor recommened my kids take some Omega 3 supplements. The first ones I bought were Gummy Vites (my kids take their multi vitamins and they are just fine) and they taste awful! I tried them too to see if the kids were just being picky and they were extremely gross and fishy tasting. Has anyone had any luck with a liquid or chewable supplement for omega 3's that still tastes good?
Answer: try these, they taste good too!

Question: Are there any good Omega-3 supplements that don't have the fishy taste? I need to add more Omega-3 to my diet, to help my cholesterol, as well as dry eyes. I've used some fish oil capsules before, but they always make me burp up a fishy taste (yuck)! Do all Omega-3 supplements cause this fishy aftertaste? Are there any good ones that don't?
Answer: Fish oil capsules often "repeat" on you because the oil inside is rancid, which makes it not only gross but also less potent. (That's also why the oil is enclosed in capsules in the first place.) As an alternative, I would recommend going the liquid route - that's how you know that if it tastes good going down, you won't be tasting it again later.
Two brands of liquid fish oil that claim to have a pleasant flavor are Coromega and Carlson's. Personally, however, I take Omega Cure ( http://www.omega-cure.com ) - it's frozen and super fresh, so it's extra potent and completely taste-free. You can mix it in with yogurt, juice, salad dressing, or whatever, and you get 2,010 mg of EPA and DHA in every two-teaspoon daily dose.
Question: What is omega 3 supplements for ? I heard its good for your hairs, but I am not sure if I should take it or no? I am 23 years old female.......I am kind of underweight...I have normal skin, but I break out veryyyy easilyyyy....
please let me know what is the main purpose/benefit of taking omega 3 tablets/supplements...I always see these tablets in the over-the-counter drug section, BUT STILL NOT SURE ????
Answer: Im taking 3 omega 3 pills a day myself. I don't know if it helps with breakouts but my uncle who's a doctor says it does help make your skin and hair healthier and also helps your brain retain information. Ive had ance lesions and im pretty sure these pills are helping with that. :-)
Question: Does anyone have any experience with depression and Omega 3 supplements? I read that the Omega 6 to Omega 3 ration needs to be 1:1 but its about 20:1 in the american diet. More than 4 oz of fish a week causes mercury poisoning. So supplements are the only safe way to go.
Answer: I tried Omega 3 supplements and it held off the depression for a while. I guess I was not vigilant enough in "helping myself" though and the depression worsened. I ended up having to use medication to improve.
I did notice a vast improvement with the supplements though. I was in a bad situation though and isolated myself; otherwise it may have helped enough so that I would not have needed the medication.
It is certainly worth a try (I took the supplements with a physician's approval) and I had no bad side effects from taking the Omega 3 supplements.
If you want to try it, please be very sure that your depression is improving.
Good luck to you.
Question: is it necessary to take vitamin and omega-3 supplements if on a fairly healthy diet? I've been advised to take a multivitamin, a vitamin C, and an omega-3 supplement to keep healthy. Two questions: are they necessary? and if not, surely they're not doing any harm?
Answer: Depending on what you consider 'fairly' healthy, I think only a daily multi-vitamin is fine. Multi-vitamins have Vitamin C already.
If you aren't eating fish or nuts, then maybe an omega-3 vitamin.
The only harm you would be doing is to your wallet... that being you'd be wasting money.
Question: Should you stop taking omega 3 supplements in your 3rd trimester? Ladies, i just read somewhere it says you should stop taking omega 3 supplements in your 3rd trimester, Is this true, have you ever heard about this. I am actually due to buy some more tomorrow so it would be good to know as im in my 3rd now?? Did you take them when did you stop? I use pregnacare ones.
thank you
Answer: No way, there is no reason for you to stop taking omega 3 & 9 supplements. They are like liquid gold for bubs brain and can also reduce the chances of you getting post natal depression. Keep taking them =)
You could also take flaxseed oil instead as this is derived from seeds and not fish =)
Question: Omega-3 supplements or should i eat fish daily? I have a very tough exam coming up soon, and I need to study with extreme concentration for it. What can I do to improve my brain power and stay focused?
Are Omega-3 supplements as good as eating fish?
What about walnuts and walnut oil? Should I fry the fish in walnut oil?
Answer: eat fish. you can either take supplements or eat fish but why not get it from eating good food?
Question: omega 3 supplements and birth control pill? I have been on the pill for a year and have had no problems, until this morning - i have had lots of brown discharge and some blood mid way through pills ( sometimes known as breakthrough bleeding??) - this was on wednesday. On monday, i started to take Omega 3 Fish Oil supplements and just wondered whether these may have an effect on my pill.
Does this sounds like it could be pregnancy or just breakthrough bleeding as i am worried.
Thank you.
Answer: Omega fish oils have no effect on the pill. Assuming that you have continued to take the pill appropriately its fail rate is tiny, around 0.2%, so a simple hormone break through is the most likely cause. Monitor what happens over the next few weeks and if you remain concerned see your GP who will perform a check up and ideally a fresh smear.
Question: Can i trust using nature's bounty omega 3 supplements? I've been smoking green for a about a half a year and I'm ready to quit. I want to improve my memory so i'm taking nature's bounty omega 3 supplements. I'm paranoid with anything having to do with health so my question is will these supplements help? For some reason I have this thought that the supplements will make my memory worse so I will keep buying them or something any insight?
Answer: It's good to hear you're being proactive about your memory ...
Below are a list of some of the more popular memory / focus / concentration / attention improving products. You can find them in local health food stores and the internet.
1.http://focusfast.com/
2.http://www.vivimind.com/
Focus Fast is stimulant free and contains the most ingredients.
Vivimind is the newest product on the market
There are also a few others that are pretty good that you can find in the 'Wellness and Health' sections of the above mentioned stores, or even through google. It's a big market right now. The downside to that is ... there are a lot of crappy or 'cheap' products ... usually single ingredient 'wonder pills' or just a re-branded multi-vitamin. It's kind of easy to spot them because they just *look* cheap.
As for food help ... Fish Oils and anything high in Omega 3s are considered 'brain food'. The ones you mentioned are pretty popular and a lot of stores do carry them (did a google search).
Question: How much the Omega 3 supplements can I take? I would appreciate your input and give points to honest answers :)
My psychiatrist suggests that I take omega 3 supplemental pills to help with bipolar.
I was wondering how many milligrams is a good amount for Omega 3's or Omega 3-6-9's???
Answer: Look for the amount of EPA and DHA on the label. A good product will have hundreds of milligrams of each in a serving. The EPA is typically twice the DHA. A brand that I use has 380mg of EPA and 190 mg of DHA in a 1000 mg capsule.
Assuming that you could find a similar product, try taking from 2-4 at a time with your meals. This is going to be beyond the label recommendations by a lot. You may find that a fishy aftertaste is burped up. So for that reason, adjust the amount downward until you tolerate it well.
One of the goals of taking supplemental Omega 3 is to balance the lipids in the body. A scarcity of omega 3 will result in a relative abundance of Omega 6 lipids. Omega 6 lipids readily yield Arachidonic Acid (AA), which is made easily into pro-inflammatory molecules like Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Omega 3's do not easily become PGE2. Some molecules that can be made from the DHA in fish oil can be converted in the body to Resolvin D2, a molecule helpful in clearing inflammation actively.
Question: How reputable are Seven Seas Omega-3 supplements? I just bought myself a bottle of Seven Seas Pulse Omega-3 Fish Oil capsules. However in reading up online i have found that it is far from recommendable and doesn't appear to be a favourite. I don't know if the website can be trusted so i would really appreciate a few other opinions.
Thanks in advance
Answer: There are several issues with "fish oil" capsules. The cheaper ones are a mix of different fish. The purer ones are wild salmon alone, and the even better ones are classed as "pharmaceutical grade" from salmon, which means they've been tested for mercury. The last ones are 3 times more money.Your best bet is to compare several products at the health food store and ask for help. You get what you pay for.
Question: How effective are omega 3 supplements ( EYE Q) in improving mental ability.? How effective are omega 3 supplements, particularly the EYE Q supplements in regards to improving mental ability? I recently brought some, 22 pound for 180 tablets. Are they a waste of money? or do they work?
Answer: think you need something more than omega 3 - even though it's a crucial ingredient.
The following list details the sort of food that you might find interesting:
omega 3 - fish
peanuts, potatoes, eggs
liver, soya beans
flour
beetroot, almonds, meat, grains
banana, dates, yogurt, milk, cheese
legumes
poultry

sesame seeds, dried figs, apricots, avocados, melon, grapefruit, kiwi, prunes, pulse, oysters, sunflower seeds, brazilnuts, brown rice, offal, mushroom, cocoa
curry
water
broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach
red wine

Sugary food
hydrogenated fat

Question: Can i take omega-3 supplements(pills) instead of fish? Do they satisfy the need in omega-3? We all know omega-3 is important for the brain,so is fish which is highly rich in it. Instead of eating fish, can i take pills everyday(i'm 18 years old)???
Second question: in general, do these supplements take the place of natural ones? for example, instead of eating fruits and vegetables, we take supplements of vitamins...Do they both have the same effect??
3: What are good food for releasing stress and fear?
Answer: You should read the back of the box. There's usually a table which tells you what the recommended daily amount (rda) is and you cross-check that with what you get in one pill. I think the pills are good but I prefer fish, smoked salmon mmm. There's this belief that vegetal omega-3 is the same and you see those on margarine packs but it's not. This type of omega-3 is NOT scientifically proven to have the same benefits.
For relieving stress, just get a boy-friend. This is more natural. My grandma told me to repeatedly breathe through a paper bag. Umm... it can work. Aparently during stress, u breathe less, so more carbon-dioxide in your body and therefore the trick is to just: breathe!
Question: If omega 3 is meant to lower triglyceride then why to the omega 3 supplements have it in the ingredients? trying to find a healthy candida diet but all the ones ive looked at so far contradict each other.
Thanks Andy but i really dont want to lose the weight, i want to put more on thats why im struggling with this candida diet.
Answer: Fish Oil helps with Cholesterol support because of the EPA (the natural Omega-3 fatty acid in it)... it's just what it does, like the reason Vitamin C is acidic.
The fact that Fish Oil has cholesterol doesn't mean it's going to increase your cholesterol... they are two very different things. In fact, you need to ingest some cholesterol every day... the RDA for cholesterol is 300 mg per day so a softgel of Fish Oil would have less cholesterol than a couple potato chips (which is almost insignificant as well). One thing to remember is that there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, just like there is good fat and bad fat... Fish Oil is an example of a good fat and it gives your body some of the raw materials it needs to properly control cholesterol and keep it in a healthy range. I hope that helps to clear it up!
Question: do I need to buy special prenatal omega 3 supplements? I like getting supplements at Trader Joe's, they have good supplements there. I got my prenatal multi-vitamins there, which are great.
Answer: Omega 3s are great to build the babies brain tissue and they are a terrific antioxidant for both of you. Just make sure you get the kind made from flaxseed oil, NOT fish oil. The fish oil kind can thin your blood and you make get excess brusing and not be able to clot as well, which is not something you want at the delivery. I truely beleive that if you feel you need to add something to your diet you should add it as a food not a supplement. For omegas try almonds. One handful daily should benefit you alot.
Question: Is it safe to give my dogs the same Omega 3 supplements as humans? Or do I have to buy the pills made for dogs?
Answer: Yup its safe, I use it for my own dogs with no problem. Ive been feeding raw for over 8 years and suppliment with omegas and raw egg from time to time. It doesnt hurt even if you are feeding a good quality kibble like Solid Gold, Wellness or Natural Balance
