PH Diet
Question: Has anyone tried a high alkaline/low acid PH diet? My family and I have started a low acid/high alkaline PH diet. We are eating a lot of green vegies , fruit and very little meat, as well as no sugar or white flour. We will try it for the next 12 weeks and see if we lose weight and our PH is more alkaline. I was wondering if anyone else had any luck losing weight on this diet.
Answer: It's a great way to live. You can prevent all types of diseases especially cancer. Cancer can not grow in an acidic environment, so if your body is alkaline and under 6 ph level, you are almost guaranteed to never die of cancer.
Question: Has anyone ever heard of the PH Balanced diet? If so, any praise or criticism?
Answer: Is that "The Zone"? about food combinations?
Your body naturally balances Ph to some degree, but you should have enough nutrition of various kinds to make it easier or possible for your body to balance. If you eat a lot of vinegary acidic foods, you should also have other foods that provide nutrients to balance it, calcium-rich foods for example. And eat your predominantly starchy foods at separate times from your predominantly meaty foods. etc
to allow optimum performance of your digestive enzymes, without causing conflict of those things and getting " indigestion "
It works.
Question: How much weight did you loose in the Atkins Diet Induction ph?ase? ******PLEASE DON'T LECTURE ME ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU DISAGREE WITH THE DIET IWILL JUST DISREGARD YOUR ANSWER AND PUT A THUMBS DOWN ON IT ALL RIGHT!
Answer: I *thought* I had a healthy diet, low fat, high carb, adequate protein, lots of fresh fruit & vegetables & I kept getting sicker and fatter. I started Atkins almost 6 years ago just to get my appetite under control. I am disabled and can't exercise & I didn't think it was possible to lose weight without exercise (which was how I always controlled my weight before I was disabled). I never believed in low calorie diets, so refused to go hungry. I started Atkins (didn't weigh first) and I shrunk quick. I have never tried to lose weight & I still lost weight without trying, just making different choices. I can't worry about my weight until my health is better, but with low carb balancing my hormones, I am starting to heal. My cholesterol & triglycerides are now perfect (they were dangerously high before with the low fat diet).
You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
Your body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at >65% of your calories, if you don't your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. for hot cereal or 2 min. for more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight.
Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.
Question: My dog needs a low pH (acid) diet to stop forming bladder stones? I'm trying to treat her more naturally, without the special medical diets prepared canned food for dogs with special conditions for eg like those by Hill's Science or Royal Canin. She needs to have a low pH diet (meaning very acidic). No one seems to know if meat, such as in the Prey-Model diet or the BARF model, both high in raw meats (pre-frozen to kill bacteria), some veggies, and either none or minimal grains. Would these diets have a low pH? Is meat acidic? And yes I know she needs lots of fluids, too.
The stones are sturvite.
Answer: Yes, meat is acidic. It is also very high in phosphorus and has almost no calcium, so definitely not a balanced diet that your dog can thrive on. Contrary to what some people think, dogs in the wild do NOT live on muscle meat alone. They are more likely to consume the entire prey--whose stomach contents generally include a lot of grain/plant materials. Freezing at normal household temperatures will not kill all bacteria.
What type of bladder stones does your dog have? The dietary requirements to prevent struvite stones are much different from those to prevent oxalates, for example. Your veterinarian is your best resource for information; most (with an established client-patient relationship) would be willing to provide you a recipe for a complete and balanced diet that might prove helpful. It's easily looked up in a professional textbook; not as easy as feeding raw meat and fluids.
Best of luck.
Question: On an alkalizing diet how can lemon juice and vinegar raise the body's pH when both are acid? There are some major conflicts in viewing different version of the alkalizing food charts and a glaring one if lemon juice and cider vinegar. It seems counter-intuitive to take lemon juice to promote an alkaline condition.
Answer: Certain foods leave an acid or alkaline reside once they are completely burned to ash. This is a function of the type and amount of minerals present in the food. Apple cider vinegar, because of its calcium and potassium mineral content leaves an alkaline residue once it is burned even though the original liquid is an acid.
Question: Ph miracle diet...I need help!!? Ive been on the ph miracle diet for weightloss now for 16 days. I have probably had 3 days off were I ate normal food but my normal food is still salads or salad sandwichs. If you have a day off from this lifestyle diet will it automatically make your body go back to acidic rather than alkaline....Does it ruin your chances of losing weight if you have a day off a week?? Also has anyone else been on this diet and lost weight??
Answer: ....Miracle diets don't work very well. If you are otherwise healthy then more exersize and less intake are the key. Old but very true, but you must still get your daily nutrition. I'd go on but I'm sure You already know all this. hope it helped, Mark
Question: What is the ph level of ginger ale, diet ginger ale, etc?
Answer: 4.4
Same as cola, measured by machine at the site below.
Question: Is anyone else trying the pH diet, and how can I ever get enough calories on it? (Using it for colitis)? I'm looking for recipe ideas, ways to keep my weight on, since I am underweight, ways not to feel hungry every second, and ways that I can still continue to work and go to school but still have time to make all this food. HELP! This diet is supposed to be helpful but it’s so hard to do!
Hello Haydee, thank you for your concern, but I have been to a doctor, and I see a doctor regularly for my colitis. I have always been a bit underweight, due to my disease, but love food and always want to eat. I am just trying to eat healthier due to my colitis. Grilled cheese and pizza were not cutting it. Though it is called the pH “Diet”, diet in this case just means eating style, where I am not actually dieting, but trying to eat foods that are not processed, are yeast free, limit dairy, and make the main focus healthy vegetables. So don't be mislead by the word "diet” it just refers to the types of foods I am eating.
The pH miracle has helped many people with diseases, and I though I would give it a try, though it is hard to take all the time to prepare natural foods.
Answer: I don't know which specific pH diet you are on, but there seems to be a lot of research that shows keeping the body alkaline makes it much healthier. Personally I take a lot of magnesium (powder dissolved in hot water like CALM) or soak in magneium oil to both boost magnesium levels and also make my body more alkaline. Magnesium is SO relaxing as well!
Anyone who has intestinal problems, please look into whether or not you have celiac disease (gluten / wheat irritating the intestines) or other food sensitivities. My bet is you can rid of most of your problem with steering clear of foods you are sensitive to, take aloe vera juice or in powder form, and magnesium supplementation. A note on celiac disease: I'm not a gambling person, but I bet a huge portion of the population has this problem. If you do, you need to avoid wheat and processed foods (glutens are a by product of processing foods i.e. in dextrose, carregium (sp?), hydrolized proteins, etc.) .
Good luck to you!
Question: Why do pH diets so often contradict each other? My urine is very acid and I would like to make it more alkaline. I have seen various lists of foods that apparently result in either increased acidity or alkalinity. However, sometimes they totally contradict each other. For instance, milk and olive oil appear as alkaline in one list and acid in the other. Have the authors of these lists simply got it wrong - or is it due to another factor, such as the quality of the product?
Answer: I think it`s a combination of bogus science, and a lot of quackery from nutritionists, some who ought to know better.
Since the stomach is designed to have an operating pH of 1, (which is acidic enough to digest iron over a fairly short period of time) how can milk or olive oil possibly make a difference to the stomach.
However, maybe it is the digestion products that could be acidic /alkaline. There are very efficient buffers in blood and tissue which control the bodies pH well.
Unless you have disturbing symptoms (in which case see a doctor) I would leave well alone !
Question: Is anyone on the Ph Miracle diet? It has to do with alkaline and acid intake
I appreciate the advise Trevor but I have been on this diet for several years and am about 6 percent body fat and am not wanting to lose weight this should be called by a different name then ph diet as it is much more than that it actually makes you healthier not just makes you lose weight you should look into it. I posed you question to find if others have used it as well but thanks for your support I agree most diets are crap
Answer: As with the thousands and thousands of preceding diets the only thing that will get lighter is your bank balance.
The reason it's called a miracle diet is because it would be a miracle of it worked.
Please don't be fooled by diets, there's only one proven way to lose weight (other than surgery) and that's to eat a healthy, balanced diet and to take regular exercise.
The pH diet (whatever it is) will undoubtedly be joining every other diet that's gone before and be consigned to a page in the history books.
Sorry to sound cynical but the dieting industry is a massive rip off that for decades has preyed on people's desires and made promises it has consistently failed to deliver.
If you're looking to lose weight yourself then throw away the diet books, magazine, DVDs etc and seek one to one advice from a doctor or dietitian. Good luck.
Question: When people diet, they begin to metabolize stored fats at an accelerated rate. How could this effect blood pH?
Answer: it should not! the body has to ensure normal levels of all its ingredients, in this case the kidneys and the lungs will move accordingly to ensure a normal pH at all times. Vomiting and diarhea, on the other hand can complicate things and cause alkalosis or acidosis faster than lungs and kidneys to counteract, just don't starve, good luck
Question: What success (or lack therof) have you experienced changing our body's PH balance w/diet to prevent/kill cancr I heard that cancer cells cannot live in a PH environment of >8.something ...
Answer: I heard of this also, while on chemo I took Coral Calcium.
Question: Do pH diets work in curing Lupus Decoid? I'd like to hear from people who have tried the ph diet to cure Lupus Decoid and from the medical profession.
What success or failures have you had, did it work?
Can you recommend a diet or reading material?
Will I lose my hair with Lupus Decoid?
Sorry, yes I mean Discoid Lupus
Answer: It didn't help me, but you may be different.
I've had discoid for years, along with SLE, and the only thing that has ever helped has been prednisone and anti-malarial drugs.
Diet has never made any difference, but my rash is mainly on my cheeks and nose and barely noticable at times. I haven't been out in the full sun in years and that's probably made the biggest difference. I still go out, but I'm always covered and I wear a hat. I also know when I'm about to "flare" so I take things easy for awhile, and can usually get over it fairly quickly.
Lupus isn't curable, but there are things you can do to make it more bearable. You won't necessarily lose your hair, unless that area of your head is heavily affected, but prednisolone should help with the rash and irritation.
Because the symptoms of lupus vary not only in type but also severity, the treatment may also need to vary. It may take time to find the right combination of treatments for each individual. Treatments may include:
rest
exercise
physical therapy for muscle weakness
avoiding sun exposure
using medications such as:
anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin for symptomatic relief
corticosteroid drugs such as prednisolone for inflammation
antimalarial drugs such as chloroquine phosphate or hydroxychloroquine for rashes, arthritis and malaise .
I hope you find something that helps... but I haven't heard of anyone seeing improvement on the ph diet.
Question: Does the pH in your saliva indicative of your diet, overall health, and/or drugs you take?
Answer: No, its actually used to obtain information on cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, and many other degenerative diseases.
Question: Diet colas have a pH of 3.0, while milk has a pH of 7.0. How many times greater is the H3O+ cola concentration?
Answer: 10,000
Question: how can diet regulate body ph. are there foods that will reduce ph?
Answer: In normal health, the body regulates its pH levels through several mechanisms. The most obvious is breathing - we excrete carbon dioxide from all our cells and this is transported in the blood to be released at the lungs. Carbon dioxide dissolves in the blood and forms carbonic acid. This would raise pH above tolerable levels of just above neutral and therefore it binds to bicarbonate ions that neutralise this effect.
Stomach acid is pH 1-2 to begin the breakdown of protein food particles and to destroy pathogens that are in food. It can be raised by taking an antacid, but for what purpose unless you have heartburn/ulcer. This rise only triggers the stomach to produce more hydrochloric acid.
Dietry intake may cause increased acidity in the stomach but this will be homeostatically regulated and once it passes out the stomach, bicarbonate floods in to neutralise.
Why would u want to reduce pH (ie increase acidity) and be at risk from acidosis?
