I plan to stop the contraceptive pill in july this year and we plan to start trying straight away. I would like to know of those woman out their who were on the pill - how long after you stopped the pill did it take for you to fall pregnant? I have been on the pill for about 4 1/2 years.

Question: Can missing one pill cause you to spot during your placebo pills? just before you period is supposed to start? I missed a pill during my pack but took it the next day. Now I am into my sugar pills, I usually get my period on thursday but last night (tuesday) I had some spotting. Is this normal?
Answer: Yep, completely normal.
Question: How do doctors decide what pill to prescribe you? I have been prescribed a mini pill called microlut. None of my friends who are on the pill are on this and I don't have any allergies or medical problems.
Only reason i can think for taking this one is that there is no 7 day break and i mentioned i am forgetful and need to stick to routines.
Anyone else on microlut and is it as effective as other pills even though it's a 'mini pill'?
Answer: Microlut contains the oral progestogen, levonorgestrel, this is one of the older progesterones and some might argue more modern mini pills such as Cerazette are rather better, having a 12 hour efficacy window the same as the combined pills.
It was also essential that your GP explained what to expect from mini pills and their fail rate as it was his duty to do.
Progesterone only pills are about as effective as combined pills, 99.7% as compared to 99.8%. On the plus side they have fewer serious side effects with few vascular issues, on the minus side they may cause irregular and quite prolonged bleeding for at least the first 3 months, though after this women tend to lose their periods all together. 70% being period free by I year of continuous use.
Question: How long after stopping theh pill did it take you to get pregnant? I've got an almost 22-month-old daughter, and just went off the pill 2 weeks ago. With my daughter it took 3 months after stopping the pill to get pregnant. In december I had a miscarriage after being off the pill since mid september. Now I'm wondering if it'll take the same amount of time. I went on the pill right after the miscarriage, but am wondering how the miscarriage might have affected my fertitlity. Any advice related to experience would help!
Answer: It took me less than 3 months. But circumstances change everything.. like if you're actually 'trying' to conceive- like timing when you're ovulating, etc. stress can affect it too- the miscarriage could cause this type of stress.. i don't know about if the miscarriage could physically affect this. call your gyno.
Question: How quickly does the pill take to regulate a period? My gf has had a constant period for over a month now and so her GP is putting her on the pill to try to regulate her periods. We was just wondering how long it would take for the pill to stop the bleeding as she is bleeding at the moment but hopefully going on the pill tomorrow.
Thankyou for any answers.
Answer: well, with her constant period, it may take up to a month, but if she's lucky, about a week or two. If she's haveing a constant period and she's not older than 20ish, then there's something wrong. She needs to be seen by a gynecologist.
Question: What is the maximum number of pills that will fit into a pill bottle? I have a round cylindrical pill bottle, diameter D and height H. It is filled will round cylindrical pills, diameter d and height h. What is the optimal packing efficiency? That is, what is the maximum number of pills I can fit into the bottle?
Answer: I would estimate the space within the bottle is 75% filled with pill material with 25% left over as air. Volume of the bottle is pi R^2 H and the volume of each pill is pi r^2 h. Take the ratio of the volumes and multiply by 75% to get the number of pills.
Question: Is the pill effective during the first week? I have been taking birth control pills regularly, but I always wondered about this. After each inactive (placebo) week, how many days after I take the first active pill will the pill be effective?
In other words, is it safe to engage in intercourse during the first week of active pills AFTER a week of inactive pills, assuming that I have been taking the pill on a regular basis?
Answer: In order to become pregnant, your body must ovulate (a serge in hormones making it possible to fertilize the egg) and the uterine lining must be hospitable to implant an embryo. Birth control pills are synthetic hormones that prevent ovulation and reduce the uterine lining (which is why the pill gives some women a lighter period). Ovulation doesn't occur until the second week of one's cycle.
So even if for some weird reason, you had a leftover egg that somehow got fertilized during that first week, your uterus would not allow the implantation of an embryo. In sum, you're fine, have as much sex as you want, whenever you want.
Question: Is missing a placebo pill the same as missing a regular one in a birth control pack? I missed the last placebo pill in my pack which would actually be the last pill before starting a new pack. I haven't missed any of the other pills just the last green one.
Answer: No it's okay if you miss a placebo pill as long as you took the 3 weeks of active pills correctly.
The placebos pills don't have any active medication in them. Some contain iron to help with blood loss during your menstrual cycle though. But most, don't contain anything. They are simply there just to keep a woman in the habit of remembering to take her pill every day.
I have been on the pill for 10+ years and I NEVER take my placebo pills. Once I'm done with my 3 weeks of active pills I just throw out the pack and start a new pack in a week. I've been doing this for years.
Good luck to you!
Question: How long does it take for the pill to affect your acne? I had mild acne because of really bad water where I lived. Then I moved, used my regular stuff, and my acne went away.
Then I started taking the pill. This is the second pill I've tried. I have the worst acne now I have ever had in my entire life. I am 26.
I am half way through my third pack of pills. Is this not going to change? Should I find another pill or give this one another month or two. It is pretty horrible. I would almost rather just use condoms at this point.
Answer: Hi Limin, i hope this answers your question,
A major factor in the appearance of acne is abnormal hormone levels, which usually occurs during puberty. For women the level of testosterone, known as the male hormone, rise during the menstrual cycle, that may lead to acne out breaks, due to the fact that the subcutaneous gland producing more oil at this time. Hormone levels can also alter during pregnancy and menopause, making acne out breaks common.
When symptoms are noticeable medical care is recommended, in order to prevent scarring, that can last a life time, that can occur from chronic acne. Once a dermatologist has diagnosed the skin condition, an individual treatment series can begin. This can include lotions, cleansers, laser therapy, photodynamic therapy or acne pills.
The acne pill is actually the birth control pill, but has been shown to be effective some times, to correct hormone levels. Everyone has both male and female hormones, excessive testosterone levels, the male hormone, as well as the androgens, cause the sebaceous glands to go into over production, leading to acne out breaks. The acne pill, which are synthetic forms of estrogen and progestin can help level out these hormone levels, and have been shown to stop the ovaries from producing excess testosterone, and reinstating normal male and female hormone levels.
The effects of the acne pill will not be seen immediately after beginning this treatment, and in some cases acne can get worse before getting better. As soon as the acne pill starts to equate hormone levels out the benefits will be able to be seen. Some times one acne pill will not work, and actually cause more problems, so another acne pill needs to be tried. There are different types of acne pills for the different hormonal levels of different people.
People who suffer from chronic acne need to understand that the acne pill is a temporary cure, and in most cases, when the medication is stopped the acne will return. In some cases the acne can be far more serious after the acne pill is not being taken.
Question: How long after I stop taking the pill can I expect to get pregnant? My husband and I decided that its time for us to have a baby. I stopped taking the pill about 3 to 4 weeks ago, and immediately had a period. I know that quitting the pill can cause you to bleed. Do I count that as my last period? And How long does it usually take for a person to get pregnant after quitting the pill? I've been on the pill for about a year and 3 months.
Answer: It different for everyone. Some women ovulate right away after getting off the pill, others it takes their body a little longer to get into the baby-making swing of things. Personally, I got pregnant within the same month I stopped taking birth control. My last period was on 10/10/07, on 11/9/07, I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant.
I would suggest that you start taking the pre-natal vitamins now so your body is healthy and well-nourished for when you do get pregnant.
Also, yes, getting off the pill or missing a few pills can cause you to bleed.
Good luck and baby dust to you! :)
Question: How soon after starting the pill can I start having unprotected sex? I started the birth control pill at the beginning of April, and am currently on my first period since starting it. I was wondering how soon after from the starting point of the pill would it be considered safe to start having unprotected sex?
Keep in mind, I am using the answer I receive from this question strictly as a guideline. I will continue to have protected sex, but I just would like to know at what point it would be considered generally safe, or safer to have unprotected sex on the birth control pill.
Answer: From the day you start the pill you must use other non-hormonal contraceptives (i.e., condoms) for at least 14 days to prevent becoming pregnant.
I'm sure you are aware the pill only prevents pregnancy, not Sexually Transmitted Diseases, but you referred to safe sex: Use a condom at all times, and even if you are in a stable, monogamous relationship, use condoms until you have both been tested for and cleared of STDs.
The most common STDs are gonorrhea, chlamydia and herpes, and of course HIV/AIDS is the most severe. There are others like Hepatitis A & B, genital warts and 'crabs' (pubic lice). Hepatitis B is ridiculously easy to catch and in some cases can reduce your life expectancy more than HIV would. Even if you both think you're 'clean', many STDs don't show symptoms for a long time. Who knows who your last sexual partner slept with, and who that person slept with, and so on.
For more information about STDs, I suggest you start by reading about chlamydia, the most common STD in the USA: http://www.sextoyspy.com/ShowSexOracleArticle.aspx?ID=22
Question: Are women still protected during the sugar pill of birth control? My girlfriends on birth control (almost 2 months) and i want to know how it works. I know she takes a pill every day but when her period is supposed to come, she takes something called a sugar pill. If she ends her period a day early but still has one day left of the sugar pill, is she still protected?
Basically what im asking is, is she still protected during the sugar pill?...
Are they protected every day as long as theyre taking the pill correctly?
Answer: Yes, the birth control pill mimics a woman's hormone cycle. When she takes the sugar pill, it is telling her body it's that time of the month. The pills aren't immediate release.
Although you do know, BC pills are 100% even if taken perfectly, right? Something like 99%, but still not 100%
