Prenatal Vitamins
Question: Prenatal Vitamins? I am 19 and definitely not pregnant. I have read stuff about prenatal vitamins helping hair, nails, etc. Is this true and are they safe to take if you really aren't pregnant?
Answer: yes its true and yes they are safe to take.
Question: prenatal vitamins ? ? Been TTC for a while now, AF came this morning. Now im planning on using the clearblue fertility monitor for this cycle and im going to take prenatal vitamins. Will the vitamins in any way affect the results for the monitor??
Answer: No, prenatal vitamins are just vitamins and suppliments that are good for pregnant women and women who are trying to concieve. There is nothing added in there would effect the outcome of the ovulation monitor or pregnancy test. The only thing that might effect them are hormones but those are not added to pre-nat vitamines
Question: PRENATAL VITAMINS???????? I know TMI but do you're prenatal vitamins give you the poops?
Answer: I couldn't take prenatals because they made me sick. I take a double dose of Flintstones vitamins instead. They don't change my bathroom habits what-so-ever. :)
Question: Should prenatal vitamins be taken even if the person is not intending on getting pregnant? My girlfriend has started taking prenatal vitamins because she believes it's a good source of vitamins that would otherwise be absent in her system with a regular diet. However, we started wondering if the vitamins could possibly interfere with the hormones in her birth control pills and/or cause her to get pregnant... we are not planning on having kids any time soon so we want to know if the prenatal vitamins could cause her to get pregnant. Thank you in advance for your help.
Answer: No, it will not effect her hormones or cause her to get pregnant.
They don't contain any female hormones or anything like that, so really you could take them too.
They are just like an amped up version of multi-vitamins.
Question: Is there any prenatal vitamins that have 5 mg of biotin in them? I had my little girl in August 2009; but my energy is not there. I was advised to take B-Complex and Prenatal Vitamins ( Prenatal Vitamins helps better with anemia). So, I have been searching for Prenatal Vitamins that have a high level of biotin because I don't want to have to buy so many vitamin supplements. Can someone please help me?
Answer: Bayer One-A-Day has biotin in it. I'm not sure how much it is, but you should check it out! Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!
Question: Can you take prenatal vitamins and Biotin at the same time? This is not a man ,just on a mans account asking a question. I've been taking prenatal vitamins (not pregnent) and I want to takee biotin with it. I have Biotin 1000mg can I take them with the prenatal vitamins. If so how much of the biotin can I take 2500mg?
Answer: ask your doctor
Question: Does Prenatal Vitamins make your hair grow faster or is it better to take other vitamins with Biotin in it? I colored my hair a while back and it broke off a little so i was wondering if Prenatal vitamins make hair grow faster. Im already eating healthy and taking multivitamins but i really need my hair to grow back past my shoulders because i do NOT like extensions. Help me out please!!!
Answer: Vitamins, exercise, water, eating right...are all the things that help you obtain healthy hair, but how you take care of it matters as well. Make sure you deep condition/hot oil treat your hair, find the right shampoo that works for your hair texture, get your hair trimmed every 6 - 8 weeks, and lay off heat and chemicals if possible. Your hair needs lots of tender love and care. It will grow, however, just remember the average hair growth is around a 1/2 inch give or take a a little depending on the person.
I'm not a fan of extensions (doesn't sound like you are either), however, if you decide to go that route...make sure they sew or braid the tracks in. NO GLUE!!!!!
Question: PreNatal vitamins? i got answers a while ago saying to take these vitamins to make my hair grow faster. a couple questions:
1. once i start taking them, how fast will my hair grow?
2. when i stop taking them, will it have any affect on my hair? like will my hair go back to growing at its normal pace? or will it keep growing fast?
3. what is the overall affect with the vitamins? what will it do?
4. anything else i should know about them?
thanx!
Answer: its a rumor that prenatal vitamins make your hair grow any better than a regular multivitamin. because when you're pregnant, your hair growth increases anyway
what you need to take is biotin or country life maxi-hair. i used to take maxi-hair, but i hate swallowing pills. so now i switched to just biotin (which are tiny capsules), and it does make your hair grow faster. but it stops when you stop taking it. it's being studied as a cure for baldness right now.
also, eat lots of protein (hair is protein), healthy fat like olive oil. vitamin e and massage the scalp every day. hair follicles are fed by the bloodstream and massaging will increase blood flow to the area :)

Question: What prenatal vitamins brand would you recommend? I remember reading on a board that prenatal vitamins were good as a multi-vitamin and a plus for anemia. Certain brand you recommend? Is there any side effects I should be aware of?
Answer: Get something with Folic Acid plus Ferrous Sulfate.
Question: Can generic brand prenatal vitamins cause nausea and vomitting? I am planning on taking a prenatal vitamin. Its basically the generic form for Stuart Prenatal. I got it at Target. I was wondering if it causes nausea and or vomitting and how do I handle or prevent it.
I am not pregnate. I just need an extra intake on my vitamins.
Answer: It really depends on the quality of the vitamin. You should consider switching to another generic. Something I learned about vitamins is, the bigger the brand the higher the quality since larger companies have more at stake than the smaller "no-name" brands.
Question: How much faster to Prenatal vitamins make your hair grow? My hair used to cover my whole back and used to be really thick until i started straightening it. It's still long but not as long as before and it's quite thin now. How much faster will prenatal vitamins make my hair grow?
Answer: you probably should not start to take prenatals unless your doctor recommends that you do. may i suggest a vitamin that is made just for your hair and nails.
here is a link to one of the many brands that make them:

also, prenatals don't necessarily make your hair or nails grow. when a woman is pregnant she experiences extreme hormone changes, some of these changes involve accelerated hair growth . for instance i am pregnant with my third son, my first pregnancy, i experienced no difference in my hair thickness(i was taking prenatals through pregnancy), with my second son, about half of my hair FELL OUT!! in CHUNKS! and i was taking prenatals the whole time. it was just my hormones and not due to whether or not i took prenatals. and with this pregnancy, i am not losing hair or growing hair any faster.
see what i mean?
good luck!
Question: When should you stop taking prenatal vitamins after you give birth if you are breastfeeding? I recently read that the vitamins/nutrients in prenatal vitamins is good for baby if you are breastfeeding. Is that true? If that is true, should mom still take prenatal vitamins while they are still breastfeeding?
Answer: My answer is short and sweet...
I took them the whole time I was nursing both my children. I felt that they needed the nutrients while I was pregnant, so why not continue taking them as I nursed. They got most of their nutrition from me in those first few months, so I needed to make sure I had enough of the vitamins in me.
(I would recommend taking them at least until the baby is on more solid food...)
It can't hurt, but it can only help!
Question: What prenatal vitamins do you recommend? I am TTC within a few months and would like to know what brand of prenatal vitamins are best in your opinion?
Answer: your ob has to decide for you. maybe they forgot to assing one to you so call ur ob and ask. However, your OB should be the one to make that determination since they have your health history. If they have told you to get any prenatal vitamin then ask the phamacist, as they are the next best thing to your doctor and sometimes can be even better.
i was taking natelle prenatal vitamin which gave me a very healthy baby
Question: How often do you take ur prenatal vitamins while trying to get pregnant? I am looking for an answer in how often some of u ladies take ur prenatal vitamins when ur trying to get pregnant. Like do u only take them at the beginning of ur cycle or do u take them all the way through it. I am getting ready to start taking fertility pills and prenatal vitamins and I am not sure if I should only take the vitamins while i am taking the fertility pills or take the vitamins all the way through my cycle. Answer: I would say to take the prenatals every single day. good luck :)
Question: How effective is taking prenatal vitamins when trying to conceive? Does taking prenatal vitamins when trying to conceive increase your chances of getting pregnant? I have been taking half a prenatal vitamin every day for almost 3 months now.
Answer: You are not increasing your chances of getting pregnant but you are increasing your chances of having a healthy baby when you get pregnant. Good job too many people start taking the vitamins when they find out they are pregnant, what you are doing is wonderful! Good luck sending lots of baby dust your way! Take a whole vitamin though doesn't hurt you to take the whole one.
Question: Can I buy prenatal vitamins over the counter? If not is there a brand comparable? I've heard its a good idea to take prenatal vitamins to increase my chances of pregnancy and having a healthy baby. I wasn't sure if i need a prescription or if there are different brands like regular multi vitamins. Any tips?
Answer: Taking a prenatal vitamin won't help you get pregnant, but there are lots of over the counter prenatal vitamins to choose from. It's also a good idea to start taking a folic acid supplement while you're ttc and during pregnancy.
Good luck =)
