Question: How does self-employment tax work for Sole Proprietorship? What happens if you make $20,000 through your full time job, and $0 through self employment? Do you pay $0 for the self employment tax as a self proprietor? Or, do you still have to pay using $20,000 as the total income? Please help me someone. Thanks.
Answer: It's like this. If you are employed in such a way that social security and income taxes are withheld from your paycheck, you pay half the social security taxes out of your paycheck, and your employer pays another half of your social security taxes.
Social security is a regressive tax, by the way. It only comes out of income from working, not interest or dividends or anything like that. And once you have made and paid 7.65% social security taxes on $102,000 of your wages, salaries, and tips in 2008, you only have to pay the medicare tax (1.45%) for the rest of the year. So the poor actually pay a larger percentage of their income in social security taxes than the rich do, even though the poor are probably more likely to die before they retire.
If you are self-employed, you are both employer and employee. This means you pay both halves of the social security tax (15.3%) on the money you make from self-employment.
If I remember correctly, you pay that tax on your profit, not on your revenue, so you do get to deduct business expenses before you calculate your self-employment tax. In your example, that would mean that your self-employment tax would be zero, and your social security contribution for the year would come from your job.
Question: What style of self-defense would be best for someone with no experience? I'm not athletic or very flexible, but I'm hoping to learn some self defense. Is there one that will be able to give me some skill in the art, but will not be too demanding in the beginning? I've heard that most forms of self-defense require a minimum level of fitness in the beginning.
Yes, I could carry a weapon, but that's not always possible in case of a attack. For example, a lot of places don't allow pepper spray.
Answer: in your case, i would just carry some pepper spray or a tazer.
Question: Can you use self raising flour instead of rice flour? I am wanting to make homemade dog biscuits and it says to use one and a half cups of rice flour, but I don't have rice flour only self raising or plain flour. Could plain or self raising flour be used instead?
Answer: No, rice flour is actually ground rice, so its powdered, sr flour, plain flour or corn flour are completely different to rice flour, you actually use rice flour to make shortbread bisquits, try lucky dog or purina or even pedigree pal web sites, they may be able to give you a different recipe that doesnt use rice flour, hope this helps, goodluck!
Question: What types of self defence should I teach my six year old cousin? His parents are divorced, and he is depressed. The school kids are making fun of him, and he is having some problems. I want to teach him self-defence, but he is a little young. What are some good self defence things to teach him?
Answer: i have a six year old son, and im a single mum. every once in a while my son gets picked on a bit, but luckily not too bad (touch wood) as he is confident and his good looks dont hurt either as that seems to deter bullies, least with boys. also, alot of the cooler bigger kids stick up for him if the smaller ones try it on, though i do tell my son to fight his own battles.
i have taken my son to childrens kickboxing, which was brilliant, i box with him, i am his sparring partner, i have him hit me as hard as he can, i teach him how to hook, jab, keep his guard up, etc. and how to kick where it hurts. ive also taken him to street dance, which isnt self defence but it is confidence building.
so, id say, get him out there and get him into these classes, and dont let him try to cry his way out. tough love will do him a favour later in life. the worst thing you can do is to just tell him to 'ignore' the kids or not do anything as far as teaching him how to fight. desensitise him to fighting, but teach him the discipline to not abuse it - eg not to start fights, but to be able to fight back if someone starts with him. lots of young kids are hesitant to throw a punch, as teachers, 'bless' em, tell them its wrong and punish them, even if its self defence, which is why bullying is so bad at schools. teachers have a f**k of alot to answer for. they wash their hands of it, and some of them even encourage it cos they've got their own issues about their own childhoods... so its down to your cousin and you and his parents to sort him out.
my own son has been mildly punished twice for fighting back (punished by the teacher), and as we walked away from the school gates after the teacher told me my son had punched a boy, expecting me to be mortified, I high fived him as i knew he were just fighting back. my son is not a perpetrator. but he will normally stand up for himself if someone starts with him, so i reward him for doing so. one of his punishments by this teacher was to not allow him a slice of someone's birthday cake on the day, so straight after school we went to tescos and bought the same kind of cake, and ate it together.
also you can try martial arts, they have classes for six year olds.
i would also go head on with the kids making fun of him, if you can. u didnt say how old you are, but if youre still young, get in those kids faces and tell them to leave ur cousin alone or you will be dealing with them...police wont do anything, after all, youre young, and you didnt outright threaten them with violence.
if the parents are any good, they will also do whatever they can to boost his self esteem. six is too young to be depressed, that is bad. make sure it doesnt get worse. it it does, (the depression), tell a GP, even if the parents dont want to.
give him a hug from me and tell him to keep his chin up. and make sure his parents arent putting him in dorky clothes or shoes x
Question: How do I promote good self confidence and self esteem in my life? I really want to have good self confidence and self esteem. I still have this belief of being an inconsequential or unimportant person. Any suggestions on how to build myself up?
Answer: This may sound odd, but hear me out.
Learn to develop a reinforcing voice.
There were times during my younger days where I would let the SMALLEST thing grind on my nerves. If someone ever bumped my shoulder in the street or looked at me funny, I'd either be wracked with feelings of low self-esteem or be riddled with anger. This would last for hours, churning away in my head to the point that it would put me in a bitter, spite-filled mood for the rest of the day.
Now these events that started this, were small and insignificant, so it was ridiculous that I would let it get to me. But as you can understand, this negative attitude made things even worse.
Fast forward for a bit. After reading a few books and listening to a lot of good constructive advice, I started listening to my concience a little more. I turned it into a nuturing, reinforcing voice whenever something bad happened. I'm sure you've done the same when you've talked yourself down in your own head. We all do it, but what you need to do, is use that to boost your confidence and really give yourself a strong pat on the back!
Whenever something get's you down, or you're feeling a little glum, turn those doubts the other wayt around. Tell youself that you're worrying over the little stuff, push yourself to find positivity in the moment. Be your own life-coach! :)
Question: What is the best self tanning lotion that brings the best tan without looking fake or orange? I hate spending hours in the sun working on a tan, besides the damage it does. I have bought self-tanning lotions in the past and just wasn't impressed much with that either, I don't want to do the spray booth's either. Does anyone know of a good quality self tanner they could recommend? One that doesn't get on your clothes either. Thanks.
Answer: Ok I had the exact same problem as you so i bought the Vasaliene Natrual Glow and i love it! You see results in like 3 days and you are the perfect summer tan after a week. It works with your bodies molecules to match your skin tone without looking orange. I use it after a shower and i have lots of compliments.
Hope I helped
PS. Jergens is bad and stupid and will turn your whole hands orange
PPS if you ever do turn orange use lemon juice!
Question: What is the best textbook for self-study of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics? I am currently a high school student and am interested in self-study of micro and macro economics because my school does not provide the class. Hopefully this self study would give me a deep enough understanding to do well on the AP tests for economics and give me a base for later economics study. Can anyone recommend (from self experience) the best textbook for teaching myself? I would consider myself a very competent reader capable of understanding all but the most confusing textbooks and I don't get bored easily. From the preliminary research I have done, Principles of Economics, by N. Gregory Mankiw, seems like a contender. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Answer: for microeconomics it would be ...
Microeconomics 2 (2nd Edition) John B. Taylor & Lionel Frost
Available from Houghton Mifflin Company
there is also an accompanying study guide too
Question: My self cleaning oven keeps catching fire on the inside - what do I do? I just went to clean my self-cleaning oven and a huge fire caught in the inside of the oven. The door is locked, so I can't even open it to pour baking soda on it. I turned the oven off and the fire seems to have gone away, but I don't know what to do! Can I not clean my oven or something?
Answer: opening the door would have made the fire worse. it went away. clean gunk out first- don't let grease pile up. I assume it isn't a CONTINUOUS clean- otherwise this wouldn't happen.
Question: What is the best self tanner to use on very light skin? I am pretty white and I like to use tanning beds because the tan is even and not orange-colored like a lot of self tanners. I don't want to risk of skin cancer, though, so which is the best self tanner to go with? I am thinking about trying Hawaiian Tropic Island Radiance? Anyone used this?
Answer: i use dove energy glow ... they have it light/medium skin tones... it works well, looks like a real tan, not orange at alll
Question: How can i appear to be self-confident when I lack self confidence? I have low self esteem and low self confidence. How do I fake it until I make it. I would like any tips, techniques, and pointers.
Ummm, I already have a CAREER and a master's degree so check.
Answer: Have great posture, look people in the eye, speak loudly enough for people to hear you, smile, take care of yourself and make yourself available for friendships with others.
Remind yourself of your good qualities EVERYDAY. Are you kind? smart? interesting? inquisitive? musical? funny? creative? What are you good at? What is your best feature??
You just need to keep in mind what makes you special and unique and decide what great thing you bring to your world...
chin up!! :-)
Question: What self help book is best to become optimistic? I am looking for a good self help book that will help me become optimistic instead of pessimistic.
Should I read something like, Learned Optimism: How to change your mind and your life, by Martin Seligman?
Answer: I found this and it sounds (honestly) very positive to me:
Personally, I am inspired by Alinis Morissette and her music...

Question: What self- defence technique would you recommend for a boy? Need to learn respect for others? Can you recommend a form of self defebce for a boy that teaches respect for all, and not to fight just defend yourself. I need my son to be able to defend himself wel, but remember after my rbother learned karate he just went round trying to chop everyone which is not acceptable!
Answer: Don't blame a martial art(karate) in this instince, for not teaching self control and respect. blame the instructor he had, who's job it is to teach this in class. Blame your parents for not setting him straight right away when this behavior started, but don't blame the style. A style is just a tool, and in and of itself cannot do anything to teach proper behavior.
Are you going to blame the car that somebody cannot drive? no blame the driving instructor.
Are you going to blame the scalpal because the person died on teh table? No you blame the doctor or the person who taght it to him.
Are you going to blame the gun for killing someone, or blame the person who pulled the trigger?
The fact is that any martial art, even MMA's, will teach these things if taught correctly.
Like the UFC nuthugger Tim says Judo would be excellent, however so would karate(BTW there are many different styles), TKD, Kung Fu, BJJ, Muay Thai, etc.
What would matter most is the instructor and how he was taught, as well as you re-enforcing this respect and discipline at home.
Question: What is a good self defense style for a disabled person? I have a minor disability that affects my balance somewhat and my ability to stand for long periods. I'd like to learn self defense. Would boxing be adequate? I don't really care for participating in tournaments, I just want the self defense bit of it.
I already carry concealed. I travel by air extensively, It would hinder my travels to depend solely on a firearm ;p. I do love the sense of humor, though!
Answer: Jiu jitsu if staying on your feet is your only problem this is perfect because you do most of it off of your back and all of the moves are super effective
Question: How does being an Atheist make me self centered? I have read countless questions and answers stating that Atheists are self centered based on the fact that we're Atheist. I don't get it. How does not believing in god make us self centered?
Is there a logical explanation to this? Or is this stereotype rooted in religious texts? Like an example would be if you do witchcraft then you are a follower of Satan and you're evil. (I doubt that the bible says that because you're atheist you're self centered though)
And for those who seem to believe we worship ourselves. We don't. We don't worship anyone.
Answer: It doesn't. If you are a self centered person in general, then yes. Your religious views don't matter one bit on that. Trust me. There are just as many self centered christians. (The pastor that turned me away from christianity, to name one.)
Question: Can a self taught artist of paintings become an established artist? How? Is it necessary to have a BFA and a MFA to become an established artist in India? Does art education play an important role? Is is necessary to have a degree and masters in your portfolio description for people to appreciate your paintings.
Can a self taught artist become an established artist if he has great talent? If he holds exhibition after exhibition, and on the strenght of his art alone, can he prove his art to the world, that education is not everything, inborn talent can also prevail.
Answer: Hi there,
Here in western europe, art educations only teach you some way of thinking. You don't learn how to paint at all. People do look at the resume, but it helps more when they like your work.
If you practice a lot on your own effort, you can gain skills and develop your own style. Of course talent helps. But you also need to practice every day.
Check my website to read more on painting, if you want to: http://www.painting-ideas-and-techniques.com

Question: How do self tanners still work after showering a day after applying them? I know it's absorbed into the first layer of the epidermis, but if it's the kind that you reapply to build a tan,(like the daily jergens glow that appears within four days or so) how does it still accomplish the maximum affect even though the skin is being scrubbed ever other day? Or does it?
Is it safe to use just any old sunscreen with any kind of self tanning lotion?
Answer: It is absorbed enough not to be scrubbed away completely, and it depends on how long its been settling in
