Question: What is the treatment for symptomatic rabies? When I read about rabies, the only treatment mentioned is immunization. I never find much about how to treat the symptoms of rabies. I know that once the disease is symptomatic there is no chance for survival, but I'm mainly interested in treatment that improves the quality of life. For example, treament that makes the patient more lucid, treatment to lower the temperature, treatment to prevent muscle spasms etc. Thank you in advance.
Answer: They are called "support measures", it means that depending on the symptoms the patient has, you treat them, this means: your're treating the symptoms, not the disease. For example: if the patient can't breath, he's put on a ventilator, that will breathe for him, if has pain, he's given pain drugs, has fever, he gets acetaminophen; they can also reicive muscle relaxants, or even be sedated with heavy drugs.
PS: There are two well documented cases in medical history of patients who survived symptomatic rabies without the vaccine

Question: What is the best treatment for hyperthyroidism: radioactive treatment or surgery? Is radioactive treatment actually safe? What are the side affects - temporary or lasting, and what are the benefits? I know people that have had thyroid surgery and have done fine afterwards. Also, since it takes a while for the thyroid gland to shut down, wouldn't surgery be better if you want to be back to normal sooner? P.S. My doctor is pushing radioactive treatment. But first he wants me to go on an anti-thyroid medication. What is the success rate of anti-thyroid medication. I don't like putting poison into my body.
Answer: The best treatment of hyperthyroidism depends on few factors such as the age, the general physical condition and the extent of the disorder.
Usually an oral anti-thyroid medication are tried first. It prevents the secretion of excessive hormones by the thyroid glands thus improving the symptoms in 6-12 weeks period. The treatment could take a year or longer. Many responded to such treatment and permanently resolved the problem however a relapse ia also possible to occur.
An oral radioactive iodine is the other treatment option. It is absorbed by the thyroid gland causing it to shrink thus decreasing its activity so the symptoms would subside in 3-6 months.Due to the slowing down of the thyroid activity, a daily medication will be required to replace the "thyroxin". The side effects of "radioactive" elements in your body are usually temporary.
For those who cannot tolerate anti-thyroid medicines or those who refuses the radioactive iodine, the last option would be surgery termed as thyroidectomy where most of the parts of the thyroid glands are removed. The risk on such surgery would be damage to the vocal cords and parathyroid glands. Lifelong treatment with a medicine levothyroxine would be required afterwards to supply the body with the normal amount of thyroid hormones. Supposing the parathyroid gland is also removed, a medication to keep the calcium level normal will also be required.
You may give the oral medication a try if your doctor recommends it...many had been successful with it. However, the decision is always for you to make, think over it.
Question: What is the mandated treatment for using anabolic steroids in baseball? Much has been said about requiring treatment for the use of steroids but I've not seen what that treatment is. Is it 12-Step treatment or something else?
Suspension is part of punishment but there is also some sort of treatment.
Suspension is part of punishment but there is supposed to be some sort of treatment involved.
Answer: Yes, the treatment is suspension for full year plus no pay. The no pay is the treatment.
Question: Does facial treatment really help in getting rid of pimples and acne? I have some acne and pimples as well as scars on my face. My friends were suggesting me to go for facial treatment but I'm not sure whether it will really help me in clearing the acne, pimples and the scars.
Should I go for facial treatment?
Answer: Ok, I'm 16. I hate acne, so I spent probably a good 15+ hours searching the internet looking for cures. Here are my best
results, and what got them.
1. Go to a local drug store, buy benzoyl peroxide
Important! If your skin is sensitive, start with 2%,
then in a week or so, move to 5%, then 10.
10 is the highest you can go without getting a prescription.
2. Go to pretty much any grocery store, and get "Apple Cider Vinegar". Yes, it sounds disgusting, and it is. But it keeps
your body healthy which results in better skin. No matter how good of facial stuff you use, you can't have perfect skin
without a healthy body.
3. Get some sort of face moisturizing lotion, AKA "beauty lotion". Don't get normal lotion or it will clog your pores,
causing more breakouts.
4. Get the white (must be white) Dove TM bar soap. Was your face with that.
5. Get apricot scrub. Try to find one with really a really fine grit. Not too chunky. Scrub your face very gently, because
irritation in itself can cause acne.
--------------------------------------...
Application
1. Wash your face morning and night. I suggest using the Apricot scrub only once a day, which will give your skin some time
to heal from the last time you mangled it.
2. Pat-dry your face to prevent irritation. Apply your benzoyl peroxide of choice. Avoid your eye area. It WILL burn your
eye areas. Rub in.
3. Let dry. Apply moisturizer, again do not go around eye areas because the benzoyl peroxide will then be on your hands.
4. Drink a few tablespoons of the vinegar daily (that was enough for me). Tips with that: mix in with some sort of lemonade
mix, or something similar.
TIPS:
Change your pillow-case weekly. Drool, hair, and sweat has all be ground into that pillow case. Think its good for your
skin?
Don't touch your face! But if you do, make sure your hands are at least clean.
Keep your hair from rubbing against your skin.
Wait for your zits to be fully developed for you to get all the nastiness out of them. If they are being stubborn, use a
sterilized needle to break the skin.
Try not to stress about your skin, as hard as that may be, because stress will cause more acne. Everyone gets acne once in a
while (at least) so, it shouldn't surprise them.
Please let me know what your results are. I spent a lot of time on this article, and I'd be happy to know if this helped
you.

Question: What treatment would the illegal alien protesters receive in Russia or China? In America they block street so they can hold their stupid rallies, insult and attack police officers and they claim they have the right to violate our laws.
Would they receive such kind treatment in other nations?
Answer: Can anyone remember Tiananmen square ?
Russia wouldn't even bother to waste the tank gas, the old country would just shoot them. New Russia would probably use tear gas first, then shoot them.
Question: What percentage of American patients seek treatment for untreatable illnesses? Out of the universe of all patients seeking treatment, there is certainly some percentage that medical science simply has no treatment options for, regardless of how much money is spent. I'm trying to get a rough idea of how large that group is. I know the answer depends on how we define "treatment" or "illness" and that many patients report multiple problems, some of which are treatable and some of which are not. But, any kind of statistical set that attempts to isolate a group of people that medicine cannot help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: There is no percentage as there is no "illness" that some MD is unwilling to treat or diagnose.
All MD's will attempt or refer someone for care.
There is no giving up in medicine.
Even in palliative/end of life care there are options.
GOOD LUCK.
Question: What treatment would you give to someone who has accidentally spilt some strong acid on his hands ? What treatment would you give to someone who has accidentally spilt some strong
acid on his hands?
Answer: Hi,
Wash the hand under a stream of water for a few minutes. If the skin is broken or damaged then seek medical attention. Also it is best to advise the MSDS (material safety data sheet) of that particular acid.
Do NOT try to neutralize the acid with a base, just wash with water.
Good luck,
Ron Novik

Question: What treatment would be done on someone who has too much calcium being deposited? I have too much calcium being deposited on the bottom row front teeth, which causes a ache. I am suppose to set up an appointment for treatment, but I am curious to know what they would do to treat it.
Answer: This is calculus (tartar) - which is calcified plaque. 99% of people get it, some get lots, others get a little.. It is removed by having a scale and polish, and giving advice on how to clean more effectively.
Question: What is the best treatment of phimosis and sensitive glans in an adult male? I am suffering from phimosis right from the time I remember, I have heard that topical steroid use and circumsion are options for treatment. I also learnt that regular stretching back the foreskin can also help. I want to know what worked for somebody and what did not? Also my glans is highly sensitive, is this related to phimosis (cause it is never fully exposed) and will it get treated with phimosis treatment, I mean will sensitivity go with due course of time once glans is regularly exposed (right now I cant even touch it without getting the jitters up my spine). I can pull back the foreskin behind the glans head when the penis is semi-erect (with some effort) but never when it is fully erect. I am a 26 year old adult male and very concerned about this condition.
Thanks for you replies!
Answer: I don't know why there is such an (American) obsession with circumcision as a cure all for foreskin related problems.
I personally have a condition which can be described as phimosis. As a child I got instructions from the school doctor how to stretch. My mom explained me what to do and made sure I did my 'excercises' on a regular basis. Nothing special. Just pulling back the skin as far as it would go on a regular basis and after showering when the skin is more flexible.
No panic, just a little inconvience that was solved over time. I ended up with a foreskin that did not totally cover the glans. I have never seen this as a problem. My few girlfriends and my wife have never commented on it.
Now I am 42 I notice that my foreskin begins to tighten again. I did some searches on the Internet and found many foreskin restoration websites that led me to using the low impact o-ring method. Despitre te fact that this method is used in order to get a foreskin back after circumcision, it helps me to stretch the foreskin with succes. Slowly and comfortably and cheap. O-rings are small rubber rings that you buy in hardware shops for just a few dollars (assortment ;-) )
My son has the same condition. I remind him to pull back every so often, like my mom used to do.
I am from the Netherlands where we don't panic so easily over these small hickups of nature.
Just try it this way first. There are circumstances that circumcision is the only satisfying method in the end. Pain and infections can be a sign that an operation is justified.
A sensitive glans is what circumsized men miss and is also given as one of the most rewarding experiences of 'restored' men. This is normal. Your glans has not the normal exposure that a male without phimosis has. Therefore it is more sensitive as it is hidden in it's moist protective environment. As soon as you are able to have your glans peeping out more often you will get used to the feeling and also the sensitivity will be less.

Question: Should window treatment color be the same from outside? I am doing window treatment for my new house and wondering if I should stay a consistent color from looking from the outside (both the front and the back). I mean I planning to use different blind color for the living room (front of the house) versus white for all windows upstair that also have windows facing the front. The same for the back of my house, would it be OK if all other windows are white and the masterbedroom is a different color. Thanks.
Answer: Of course. It's your house. Do with it as you please.

Question: How safe is the treatment for RH compatibility? What are the side effects seen on babies and mothers? Consider the scenario of the mother having O- and the father A+, what are the chances that the rhogam based treatment will not cause any harm / side effects to the baby and the mother? What are the chances of the baby leading a normal life as against being retarded and having other problems? What does the dose of mercury (still contained in the rhogam drug???) do to the body of the mother? Are any other drugs available in the market that do not have these side effects? What is the best treatment available today for RH Compatibility?
Answer: If you plan on having anothor baby in the future it is the smart thing to do. Woman who don't get the rhogam and are rh negative and have a baby that is rh positive are putting all future pregnancies at risk. There is a chance that the second time around the mother's blood will attack the baby. Your doctor will discuss all the side effects with you. I have found a website that states in the 39 years rhogam has been used there has been no effect on the babies. Please look over this site for a better understanding and talk with your doctor.
