Vitamin C Supplement
Question: how does temperature affect a vitamin C supplement? I found a bottle of vitamin C capsules that had gone missing during my last move and spent the hot summer months in the garage. I know that the molecule is fragile, and cooking destroys it in food, but will moderately high temperature (we were in the low 100's Fahrenheit all summer) have an adverse effect on it? Should I go ahead and use them, or just throw them out and get new?
Answer: Their potency has been greatly reduced. Replace them.
Question: How often should I take my Vitamin C supplement of 100 mg? I'm 22.
And what is the recommended intake of Vitamin B supplements?
My diet is not that healthy.
Answer: You can take large amounts of C and not feel a negative effect. I would recommend 1000mg/day. Vitamin B on the other hand can cause some problems if you take too much. The best thing to do is get a B complex. This is a combination of B12, 6, etc. You can take 1 or 2 a day. I purchase my vitamins from Hi Health, but if you do not have one in your area, try GNC. I steer clear of getting them at drugstores or markets because they don't tend to be as high of a quality, nor as concentrated. Another thing you should DEFINITELY take is an omega 3 fish oil. Google benefits of fish oil and you will see that it has many, many different benefits.
Question: Which supplement should I take: Acerola or Vitamin C? I heard Acerola has like 1000 time the vitamin C of an orange, but does that mean it's a superior supplement over vitamin c supplements?
Answer: A superior supplement is not one that contains zillions of whatever it is you want it to contain. It is the supplement your body recognises best and can absrob most of. That is why the best suppements are the ones which have "food-state" on the label.
Question: Can i take vitamin C supplement with garlic cloves and how much vitamin C and garlic cloves can i take daily ? I'm so confused about that please help me.
Thanks in advance.
Answer: Up to 250 grams of C have been given by IV without harm.
The only negative effect of too much C is loose bowels, or "bowel tolerance". Most people can take 4 grams without reaching bowel tolerance, unless you are sick, in which case it takes more to reach bowel tolerance.
Two time Nobel winner Linus Pauling took 17 grams per day for 20 years, and died at 93.
From the Wiki...
Vitamin C exhibits remarkably low toxicity. For example, in the rat, the LD50 (the dose that will kill 50% of a population ) has been reported as 11900 mg kg-1.[26] For a 70 kg human, this means that 833,000 mg of vitamin C would need to be ingested to stand a 50% chance of killing the person. However, vitamin C could not result in death when administered orally as large amounts of the vitamin cause diarrhea and are not absorbed.[27] An extremely large amount of vitamin C would need to be rapidly injected by IV to stand any chance of killing a person. Robert Cathcart, MD, has used intravenous doses of vitamin C of 250 grams and reports that he has had no problems
Eat as much garlic as you want.
Question: I have a big ulcer on my tongue. Im 15 weeks pregnant, is it ok to take vitamin C supplement? Along with my regular Prenatal Multivitamin that i usually take?
Answer: You are carrying a human. . .I think you should clear any and everything with your DR., this is not the place.
Question: do you give your cat vitamin c supplement when the cold weather begins to kick in? Five years ago, my cat returned home from a 10-day absence. He was dirty and dragging his hind legs. Took him to vet, got x-rayed, nothing broken. Vet prescibed nothing but vitamin c mashed in his food to "make the cat stronger" was what she said. Cat didn't only get stronger, he walked, ran, and jumped normally again after 3 months of diligent exercise. So now, I give him vit C when flu season is on to "beef up" his immunity. Anyone else do this?
Answer: My kitty gets daily vitamin C(ascorbic acid powder from health food store, 150 mg./day-cheap &easy to mix with food). She also gets a minute dose of Thisilyn Milk Thistle for liver finction, and non-dairy pro-biotics. She is way healthier, no doubt about it. Check out holistic Veterinary sites. Like human MD's, Vets are given little to no training in nutritional supplementation, instead they tend to fall in line with the same Western medicine mind -set of waiting for a problem to arise & then dosing it with chemicals (drugs). Meds have their place, but just like we know that certain foods and the nutrients they contain will make us less likely to get disease or illness, the same is true for our animal companions. Look on line for holistic Vets, they treat by phone, and mine (Dr. Judy Stolz) has saved my kitty's life and restored her quality of life after 4 other Vets couln't help except for strong doses of Prednsione. The beauty of it is that with a Vet that treats homeopathically, you can treat the animal's symptoms even without a certain diagnoses. And it stirs the body's own healing mechanism to kick in & get stronger, so you have a cat that is not only feeling better, but becoming stronger & more resistqnt to disease. It works the same way for humans too.
Question: Does Emergen-c vitamin supplement work if you don't mix it in with water? I have a little bit of a sore throat and a cough so i was going to take some Emergen-c but i don't like the taste when i mix it in with water. will it still work if i eat it like a candy powder? Any other tips on a sore throat are much appreciated!!!
Answer: i have actually overheard a few doctors say Emergen-c doesnt really work. Vitamin C is use to Prevent viruses . That said , I always try to get my vitamins and minerals from living food, like fruit and veggies , etc ,rather than some artificial pill or powder made in a lab. I'll consider dried herbs too.
Now that your throat is sore it means that the bug has already made its way through a weak-spot in your immunity. You need to give you immune system what it needs to fight the virus now. This includes plenty Of Water, rest, proper foods..etc.
BTW , your body wont absorb the vitamins in Emergen-c without water.
Question: Is taking too much vitamin c supplement dangerous to your health?
Answer: Though vitamin supplements are neither recommended nor necessary in the UK, vitamin C is at least one of the water soluble vitamins, as such it is just peed out if taken in excess and is of low toxicity, even in massive overdose.
Question: Is it ok to take a vitamin c and zinc supplement during early pregnancy? i am around 6 weeks pregnant and i was taking vitamin c and zinc as a supplement before i became pregnant (or before i found out shall i say...).
so is it ok to carry on taking this? i forgot to ask my GP when i last went.
thanks in advance
I am taking only folic acid at the moment
Answer: I am actually pretty sure that most prenatal vitamins provide those in the pills themselves. Are you taking prenatals and those or are you just taking those? If just those I would switch to prenatals. I know my prenatals have them.
Question: is Redoxon a good vitamin c supplement? hi, i wanted to know if redoxon brand Vitamin C supplements are good to take. or should i opt for natural sources? i am vegetarian but i hardly have time to make a fully balanced meal. i recently became interested in supplementing some C. so, is redoxon any good for me? or is it just processed generic crap? thank you . 10 points to be awarded*****
Answer: Get the cheapest. Vitamin C is vitamin C. But you almost certainly don't need it anyway.
More to the point (especially if you are a vegetarian) is a balanced diet with adequate fibre and, for a vegetarian, protein.
Question: can i still take vitamin C & D supplement now that i am pregnant? before i was pregnant i used to take those vitamin supplements on a daily basis but now that i am 6 weeks pregnant (which i just found out recently), is it ok and is it safe to take them still?

Question: Safe amount of Vitamin C supplement? What is a safe amount of Vitamin C supplement to take daily? I've been taking 1000mg a day. too much? or can I take more?
Why would it make my gums bleed?
Scurvy?! Scary!
Answer: 500mg per day should be enough.
The bleeding gum condition is called a scorbutic condition. Over time with chronically high doses of vitamin C, your body becomes used to it. When you stop or decrease your intake of supplemental vit. C, you start to exhibit signs of scurvy.
Question: Will taking vitamin c supplements help me lose weight? I read that eating certain foods with high vitamin C can help you lose weight. im allergic to most of them. Will taking a supplement help with losing weight.
Answer: Vitamin C is an important vitamin found in a lot of foods. They're noticeably high in oranges. The foods themselves will help you lose weight, not the supplement. Vitamin C is great for the immune system, and can break down proteins. If you want to lose weight, I suggest eating more fruits and veggies and exercising more.
Question: Member's Mark Vitamin C with Rose Hips (vitC supplement)? Is this consumable for teenagers age 13?
The back doesn't specify enough... It just says "As a vitamin C supplement, consume 1 tablet daily, preferably after eating."
Answer: Yes you can.
If it says "As a (insert vitamin here) supplement, consume (insert number) tablet(s) daily", then that means there is no age limit.
Question: Is it okay to give my dog vitamin C supplement gummies? He's a dachshund and about 8 years old.
I have some old vitamin C gummies. They're way too hard for me to chew, I tried.
My dog has rotten teeth because his previous owners fed him McDonalds all the time and didn't brush his teeth afterward.
I figured it would be a good idea to let him eat the vitamin C supplement gummies since he needs to get stronger teeth. Also I figured the vitamin C would be good for him. He doesn't usually get people food unless it's something like part of a banana and such.
The gummies don't have an expiration date on them either.
Can I continue to give my little doggy vitamin C supplement gummies? Or should I just through them away?
Answer: the vitamin C might not hurt your dog, but there is no point in giving them. dogs can make their own vitamin C, unlike people (we need it in our diets to survive). so just throw them out. also you never know, they could end up being harmful to him.
i agree with the above posters about the dental, i'm sure your dogs teeth hurt a lot and the vet can help by assessing the damage and pulling the teeth that are no longer viable.
as a general rule, don't give dogs human products, just to be safe!
Question: Can Vitamin C supplements in tablets be really absorbed by the human body? I have read somewhere that ingredients of vitamin C supplements are not organic and therefore not conducive for absorption by the human body;
I also heard a doctor say that such intake greatly stresses the liver;
OTOH, I encountered a doctor that even encourages overdoze of Vitamin C on certain occassions, it being helpful, such as it can act as an anti-histamine.
Answer: Of course it can, why else do we take it?
Just remember to take anything in moderation.
A 1000MG time release VIT C capsule is all you need.
