Question: What type of vitamin supplement represents leafy green veggies? I want to take vitamin supplements that represent the benefits and nutrients from leafy vegetables (Like spinach, arugula, that sort of thing). I heard B vitamins are the source. I'm currently taking a B vitamin complex, Is that the right vitamin?
Answer: leafy greens have a lot of vitamins, plus iron and calcium. Why not just eat the greens? They are healthy, and taste good.
Question: What is relation between vitamin b 12 deficiency and depression or mood fluctuations,I am a vegetarian ,do? I need to take vitamin pills to get my daily dose of vitamin B,I am from India and there is capsule here called Zevit which has B12 and other vitamin b and zinc and vitamin c ,i am planning to take them,is that ok or will there be any side effects.
Answer: take the B vitamin. It is essential. You must have B vitamin for enzymatic reactions and there is no risk of toxicity. Vegetarians are most likely to be deficient. Lack of B vit's can lead to neurological problems like depression and confusion amongst many other things including death. So TAKE THEM!!
Question: What is a good vitamin regimen for a healthy woman in her late 20's? With all the different reports of which vitamins and supplements that are good for promoting health and longevity, it gets a little confusing. I want to know what are the more important Vitamins and supplements that should be taken by a healthy woman, in her late 20's. Muti-vitamins are no good, they have low absorption rates and tend to be pretty useless as per my doctors opinion.
I am already taking B-complex, and vitamin E, but I would like to add D, C and anything else that is important for women's health.
So if someone can steer me in the right direction of which to take and when is best to take them, it would be appreciated.
I wanted to add to this in case it was unclear. I work out regularly and eat very healthily already and have for some time so the only reason I asked the question is because I want to start taking precautions for the future, such as bone health etc. I have the bases pretty well covered but unfortunately, foods don't always carry the same benefits as the vitamins. Thanks for all the great advice but I was looking for more of a exact vitamin/regimen for someone already knowledgeable in nutrition and fitness. Thank you all though, Yahoo answers is such a great life tool!
Answer: i know your doctor said multi vites suck but those are the ones to take. if you take many different vitamins you may be getting too much of a vitamin because they may contain more than one vitamin in each pill. and honestly the best vitamins to take are prenatal vitamins.. and thats for men too!!!! i would look up the daily values for vitamins and try to find something that is close to that. also one of the best ways to ensure you get all your vitamins is to eat a well balanced diet with veggies of all different colors and different colored fruits, they contain different types of vitamins. a multivitamin will be enough. to ensure adequate absorption try taking it in the morning on an empty stomach before breakfast
Question: What vitamin deficiency would cause an overy high level of pyruvate in a patients blood and urine? Suppose you found an overly high level pyruvate in a patient's blood and urine. One possible cause is a genetic defect in the enzymes pyruvate dehydrogenase, but another plausible cause is a specific vitamin deficiency. Explain what vitamin might be deficient in the diet and why that would account for high levels of pyruvate to be excreted in the urine. How would you determine which explanation is correct?
Answer: Vitamin B1 deficiency. It is required for transformation of pyruvic acid to acetyl CoA. Vitamin B5 is required for formation of acetyl CoA, also. I guess you could take vitamin B supplements and see if the condition improves. if not, then it would be a PDK enzyme problem.
Question: What are good vitamin brands for an 18 year old male? I'm 18, on my break from the Marine Corps, and I haven't eaten healthy lately. I believe vitamins would help fill up my daily nutrients. I have heard that Flintstones vitamins stunt growth. Is that true? What are some good vitamin brands to take?
Answer: stunt growth? nah! any multivitamin from target, etc. will work. it.s not a substitute for poor nutrition.
Question: What are good vitamin to take for paranoia, mood swings, and lack of energy? I didn't even realize that vitamins could help with that sort of thing until a friend said something. If each trait has a separate vitamin, please list which vitamin belongs to each of the listed traits. Thanks.
Answer: The B-vitamins are known to be mental calmers and mood
stabilizers. In fact vitamin B deficiencies can lead to various
nervous and psychiatric disorders. The key vitamins arre
B1-thiamin, B6-niacin and B12. I would get a high -potency
B complex that contains a range of B vitamins for optimum
results. There is also a sublingual tablet made by Trivita which contains vitamins B12 and B6. Since you take them sublingually by letting the tablet dissolve under your tongue they are able to enter your bloodstream directly without having to go through the whole digestive process. It's like getting a B12 shot without the pain. When I take these regulary I notice more stable moods and an overall calmness. the number to Trivita is 1-800-991-7116. (or trivitia.com)
Question: What vitamin deficiencies can cause the tongue to move independently? The tongue starts to feel swollen and almost loose in the mouth, and seems to move around a bit.
It happens every once in a while, seems to happen when eating, but it's not always the same foods that cause it.
Not on any medication. Is it possible there is a vitamin deficiency, or a severe imbalance of vitamins such as too much calcium, too little magnesium?
Answer: I would say that it would be caused by the nerve supply of the tongue, the XII Cranial nerve. Now as far as lacking anything, any lack would show up in some other area also being that you describe a nervous movement and a 'feeling.' Do you have any kind of discomfort in the neck? Any discomfort in the interior midline just below the ribcage? The food you eat and the nutrition from it are sent to the head area from the blood vessels that surround the large intestine from that point. You could do an iridology self-exam to see if there is some hereditary issue. Shine a light in your iris and using the chart below, look in the 10:30 and the 3:30 areas on the left eye and 2:30 and 9:30 on the right eye for any 'mutations.' To protect enervation, I like to use B-12 vitamins, but since you are speaking of movement, there is the point of relaxation and for that I use Magnesium.
Question: What is the best vitamin for a woman to take? I am a 30 year old woman on a diet and I was wondering the best vitamin for a woman my age to take. I just want a one a day vitamin preferably and not a whole bunch of bottles to have to carry around with me. I also cannot take the vitamins for the increased energy due to sleep problems. I cant have anything with caffine.
Answer: By the best vitamins I imagine you mean organic natural vitamins and not the synthetic stuff. Organic are gentle on the stomach and have a higher absolution rate. I would go with Nutrilite. They have organic farms in Washington State and California and were the first supplement company. Go to http://Arcameda.com and click on vitamins then Women's Health.
For a woman above 30, don't settle for one multivitamin. If you don't want to carry around a bunch of vitamins, get the Simply Nutrilite Women’s Supplement Pack. The vitamins are pre-packaged in little sets of three so when you leave home, you just grab a pack. The pack contains a calcium, omega 3s, and a daily multi.
Question: What is a good vitamin for someone with a sensitive stomach? I would like to take a daily vitamin, but all of the vitamins I have tried, such as One a Day and Centrum, make me sick to my stomach. Anyone have this same problem and know of a vitamin that won't do this?
Answer: A friend of mine and I both had that problem. Those vitamins are synthetic based so you stomach does not know what to do. You need to take organic vitamins. The brand Nutrilite is the best organic vitamin on the market. They guarantee it. Go to http://Arcameda.com and click on vitamins then click on Multivitamin. They have a simple daily vitamin on there. I personally use the Double X Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient. The site has great information on those products and how to purchase it. You can also go to my profile to email me if you need further help. Hope all is well.
Question: What are the best vitamin supplements to give dogs? Im looking for vitamins that will benefit their coat, and overall health. Also, out of curiosity, are human vitamin supplements ok for dogs? Such as the ones i take on a regular basis, Vitamin E, and Fish oil?
Answer: If you are feeding a good quality dog food and your dog doesn't have any health problems, vitamin supplements shouldn't be necessary. I wouldn't give human vitamins without asking a vet first. Vegetable oil or Linatone can be added to your dog's food for its skin and coat.
Question: What is the recommended dosage of vitamin C for a for a female adolescent? I took a vitamin C tablet with 500mg in it today. I would like to take a multivitamin but they also have vitamin C (200 mg)
is 700 mg of vitamin C too much? The multivitamin says the vitamin C is ascorbic acid if that helps.
Answer: Taking 700 mg of vitamin C per day is OK but less would be OK as well.
To get the optimum benefit from your 700 mg of vitamin C it would be best not to take both tablets together. Perhaps you could take your multivitamin with breakfast and your 500 mg vitamin C tablet with dinner. Vitamin C is water soluble and whatever your body doesn't need ends up in your urine.
As your multivitamin contains 200 mg of vitamin C you don't really need the extra 500 mg.
You need at least 50 mg of vitamin C and preferably at least 100 mg of vitamin C per day and you can get that from a normal healthy diet that includes plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Question: how do you use vitamin c powder, vitamin e oil, or vinegar powder as a natural preservative? How much of these individually or together would you use in a recipe to preserve cookies? I plan on baking my famous cookies to sell on ebay and locally. I hear people sometimes use vingegar powder to preserve baked goods, I also heard that vitamin c powder and vitamin e oil as well as flax seed make good natural preservatives.
For around a 4 inch cookies, how much of these should I use to extend the shelf life of my homemade cookies?
Answer: You might be best off to use a vacuum sealer. There are some pretty cheap home versions available.
Question: How can you tell if the Vitamin E in my beauty care products is natural and not synthetic? Beauty Care- Synthetic Vitamin E vs. Natural Vitamin E?
How to tell if vitamin E is not synthetic in beauty products?
If a beauty product says it has Vitamin E (a-tocopherol), how do I know if this is not the synthetic version?
Answer: I'm not sure if there is a way to find out other than asking the manufacture itself. Call their questions/comments hotline to see.
Question: How dangerous is a Vitamin D deficiancy in a 6 month old baby? I only just now found out that I needed to be giving my breastfed daughter Vitamin D supplements. In addition to breastmilk she eats one meal of peas, green beans, or sweet potatoes each day. I will start giving her extra Vitamin D right away, but I am so scared that I've harmed her bone development for life since she probably hasn't gotten enough Vitamin D until now. Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to make up for the last 6 months? Thanks!
Answer: Honey, if there was a serious issue about Vitamin D deficiency in breastfed babies then we would have entire generations of people with rickets and poor bone development. This, as far as I am concerned, is just another ploy by Major Corporations, to sell more product. It's not harmful to give the vitamin and if baby or you gets no sunlight at all then it's a good thing but it's gotten way too much hype over the last few years. If you truly needed the supplements before hand they wouldn't have let you leave the hospital without them.
Question: Vitamin D Deficiency, what is the best natural source apart from sunshine to help keep the levels up? Also what are the signs and symptoms of long term Vitamin D deficiency? Thanks.
Answer: Cod liver oil and salmon are the best food sources. I am not aware of food and milk products fortified with Vitamin D in New Zealand. Signs of vitamin D deficiency can be no symptoms. An estimated 78% of the world's population is vitamin D deficient. The goverment RDA was devised to prevent ricketts (soft bones). For optimal health, around 5000IU a day has been recommended by vitamin D specialists. Optimal vitamin D levels around 70 - 80ng/ml or 175 - 200nmol/l.
Vitamin D (technically a steroid hormone) activates the immune system so a deficiency shows up as colds/flu, muscle weakness...particularly in the legs, musculoskeletal and bone pain, chronic fatigue, fractures, broken bones, osteoporosis, periodontal disease and cavities, depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), osteoporosis, heart failure and cardiomyopathy, high blood pressure, asthma, autoimmune diseases, type 1 diabetes, insulin resistance, migraines.
Studies show significant increase in cancer rates with vitamin D deficiency. In fact, cancer rates increase the further you live away from the equator. One study shows a 77% reduction in all cancers taking vitamin D with calcium daily. Calcium is needed for vitamin D to absorb and vice versa. Magnesium also is needed for calcium to assimulate in the body. With lack of vitamin D, leads to lack of calcium which then shows up with symptoms of this deficiency such as muscles spasms or twitches, numbness and tingling of your fingers and toes, irritability, confusion or disorientation, heart muscle may contract irregularly.
