Water Ionizer

Question: How do I use my water ionizer? I live out in the country and we have well water. We have a water ionizer but occasionally our water gets "dirty" looking or starts to smell more than usual. We are new to the country life and someone told us we need to "clean out" the ionizer or mentioned "flushing it out"... There is supposed to be some sort of button or something, I have no idea. Its blue... Any idea how I am supposed to do this? Thanks in advance.

Answer: I don't have a water ionizer and don't know how to work one, but I suggest looking at it to find who made it (and hopefully the model number) and then looking it up on the internet to get directions or get directions sent to you. Any respectable company will be glad to provide you instructions.

Question: I just purchased a top of the line water ionizer....Is it safe to drink water beyond a 9.5 PH level? I CAN ADJUST THE LEVEL OF PH ON MY WATER IONIZER. IS IT ACTUALLY SAFE OR DANGEREOUS TO DRINK WATER HIGHER THAN 9.5 PH LEVEL OR EVEN A 10.0 PH LEVEL?

Answer: It's probably not the best thing for you as this can mess up your body chemistry if you're not used to this. Nothing really horribly serious will happen though because your fluids are buffers. A buffer is a solution which doesn't drastically change pH if an acid or base is added. For example, your blood is a buffer solution. On a daily basis you eat all sorts of acidic or basic things, but your insides need to be kept at a consistent pH. Because buffer solutions don't change pH very much, your body can stay at a constant pH, and your organs won't fail. I also think I heard that many cities have water with a pH of 9.

Question: Is It proven, that a water ionizer is as good as the advertisments will let you believe? Can you please advise me of a low cost system that a traveller can buy, preferably within Europe but also from the USA.

Answer: The best thing to use is a water filter. They get rid of temporary hardness that causes scale, along with chlorine, lead, aluminium, and other trace metals. However, they do not purify water, best to buy a packet of water purifiers from the chemist.

Question: Can an ionizer remove metals in water? I just wanted the answer to the above question. As I need mineral free and if possible, metal free water.

Answer: No. A flocculator will reduce metal content. Mineral free water is either distilled or put through reverse osmosis with a sufficiently small pore size to prohibit ions moving through.

Answer: when you ionize something, it means you turn it into an ion. dissolving salt NaCl in water ionizes it: you end up with Na+ and Cl- ions. it is possible to ionize pure water simply by getting it really hot. first the water evaporates (turns into gas phase) and then dissociates into H2 and O2, and then dissociates into individual atoms H and O, which then ionize (presumably the hydrogen atoms will ionize first): H2O(liquid) -heat-> H2O(gas) -heat-> 2H(gas) + O(gas) -heat-> H(gas) + O(gas) + proton + electron however that will require a VERY high temperature, and unless you have a bomb-tight laboratory oven, you ain't gonna do it at home. the other way to make water ionize is to simply change the pH of the water by adding some acid. this will engender the creation of H+/OH- ions.

Question: when making super acid water using a water ionizer and salt, chlorine is produced .Is this...? ...water unsafe for external use apparently chlorine is easily absorbed by the skin. I read that the dangers of chlorinated water are from the byproducts of disinfecting the water. (chemical byproducts called THMs (trihalomethanes, haloacetic acids) which are produced when chlorine reacts with organic matter in water. super acid water produced by a water ionizer (ionizing water with salt added), creates a low ph (acid) water with chlorine(as a by-product of electrolizing the salt in the water). Super acid water is shown to kill bacteria such as those found in athlete's foot, and is used in hospitals in japan and korea . would soaking my feet in the acid water cause me to absorb chlorine into my body? is this dangerous or are the trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids the health concern?

Answer: watch out. A lot of what you mention is fuzzy non-science. THM's are about a billion times less hazardous than the germs. "Super acid water" is not a recognized chemical. I suggest you use one of the many safe and tested athlete's foot remedies.

Question: How do you ionize water to be more healthy to drink? I saw a water ionizer for sale that looked like a water filter that ran on electric and hooked up to a sink faucet... How do I ionize my own water without having to by the expensive ionizer? How dose this thing work ? What do i have to do to the water?

Answer: i don't think it makes water healthier. tap water already has ions in it. things like salt break into positive and negative ions. are you sure you're not thinking of a water deionizer. it kind of sounds like a scam.

Question: was given a Power Ionizer box for our pool and it says something about iron in the water. How do you test 4 it? It says if there is iron in the water to use Power Ion Adjust or a metal remover for 48 hours but... how do we test for that? Our water is supplied by the county and is not well water, so would it be normal to not have any? Help! :)

Answer: If your water looks red or brown (or sometimes green) after adding chlorine you likely have iron. Go to your local pool supplier and ask for an iron test kit. You test it the same as chlorine and pH with a color matching test. To solve the problem of colored water as a result of metals, there are two general approaches: Shock treat the pool to oxidize the metal, which then settles out of solution and looks like rust. The rust can easily be vacuumed out of the pool. Add a sequestering or chelating agent which forms complexes with the metal and prevents it from being oxidized by the chlorine. If the source of the copper or iron cannot be established or if it cannot be avoided, regular addition of a chelating agent or sequestering agent (metal out products) will ensure that any new metal arriving in the pool water will be held in an inactive complex.

Answer: After using the R-Garden Vitalizer Plus for over a year, I am ready to make the switch to a water Ionizer. Don't get me wrong, both machines have there pro's and con's, so let me clear up some of my reasoning here. First off... I would recommend getting familiarized with all of top Ionizers out there. (something Vitalizer just cannot do) So then we have the issue of structured water. Both machines will create hexagonal structured water But now you might say well the vitalizer adds oxygen to my water. Question: Does freezing then thawing water change its quality for drinking? Someone told me, if you can't afford a water alkalizer/ionizer, freeze your water, then thaw it, and it absorbs better. Is this true?

Answer: No, it's not true. It will de-gas the water, because ice will hold less dissolved gasses than water does. So it will taste different, and my absorb odors from the freezer. Did the same person tell you that hot water freezes faster than cold water?
