Weightlifting
Question: weightlifting? i have been weightlifting for about a year. then after a few months of nothing, i have started again.
when i do my bicep curls, i cant seem be be able to lift very much.
when i do 10kg, i can barely manage 10reps with my right arm and less with my left.
this is pathetic in my opinion..
whats going on? i want to build muscle size, so heavier weights are better right?
Answer: This is gonna sound stupid but it is true!
Start on the light weights first and get some protein shake, it will make your muscles grow three times faster, you will even be able to work out 6 times a week because it will heal the muscles so you can carry on building them. It is great because after a few week of intense training you can then go on to heavier weights. Trust me it will happen.
Good luck!

Question: How many calories are burnt weightlifting in comparison to cardio? an hour of intense weightlifting compared to an hour of intense cardio, what one burns more calories and by what margin roughly? thanks.
Answer: Actually, intense weights burns more calories. This is the thing, it burns more calories in a 24 hour period than cardio because it raises the resting metabolic rate during that time, much more so than cardio. This is why incorporating a strength training regimen in a fat loss program is so effective.
People focus too much on how many cals are burned during a workout when the focus should be on how many cals are burned at rest, when the real fat burning takes place. And, who says fewer cals are burned during an intense weights session than with cardio? Where's the proof of that? That just show plain ignorance. For some reason, the idea persists that cardio is the end-all, be-all for fat loss and it's simply not true and one of the most prevalent myths out there.
See, at rest the body primarily utilizes free form fatty acids for energy. During exercise, the body primarily utilizes glucose for energy, especially during intense exercise. With cardio, the body recovers relatively quickly and reaches homeostasis in a matter of an hour or two, depending on how intense the workout was. With weights, on the other hand, the body spends up to 24+ hours reaching homeostasis, and as a result a LOT more actual fat calories are burned during that time as the resting metabolic rate is raised. Imagine how that translates in a matter of weeks and months!
After weights, the body secretes a lot of growth hormone (GH), a powerful fat burning hormone. Cardio cannot do this. Also, a lot of stress is put on the central nervous system with weights which further raises the metabolic rate. Finally, more cals are burned repairing muscle tissue during recovery, which is much more the case with weights than cardio.
Another thing to keep in mind is that with long sessions of cardio, muscle tissue is used for energy in the process of gluconeogenisis as glycogen stores are depleted, something that doesn't occur nearly as much with weight training.
The only form of cardio that comes close to weights in the amount of total calories burned over a period of time is high intensity interval training, which has a lot of the same effects for fat burning.
The thought of cardio being the best and only fat burning tool is old-school and has no basis in science or fact.
A combination of weights and cardio has been shown to be the most effective for fat loss.
Question: How do I start competetive weightlifting and would I be good? Hello, I am 15 and really want to start doing competetive weightlifting. I am 5 10 and weigh about 200 lbs. I do football and throw shot and discus in track. I currently lift about. 7-10 hours today. My bench is 190, my hang clean is 210, my squat is 330, and my incline bench is 160. So would I be good, and how do I start?
Whoops I mean I lift 7-10 hours a week

Question: How much strength does it take weightlifting as opposed to technique? What would you say the percentage of brute strength is for weightlifting and the same for technique?
If you are a weightlifter and you know the answer for sure, please tell
Answer: I'm not a wightlifter but I'd have thought once technique is mastered then all that's left to get better is pure strength so that wins
Question: How does weightlifting make your muscles bigger? I mean like how does it work. I started weightlifting last year, and I was just wondering how does it work? I know it has something to do with tearing muscle fibers or something.
Answer: exactly that lifting weights tears the fibres and they grown back stronger providing you are eating a good diet and enough calories, this is why its important to step the weight up gradually and then your muscles get bigger and bigger each time.
Question: How do I stop from getting wrinkles on my hands from weightlifting? I've been weightlifting and then stopping due to the amount of wrinkleness of my hands that occurs. Question: What degree would I need to become a weightlifting teacher at a highschool level.? I want to be a weightlifting teacher and ultimately a football head coach. I need to know the minimal amount of education I would need to be accepted for a job like this.
Answer: I have been teaching high school for 11 years. It is my experience that you would have a difficult time teaching something as specific as just weightlifting. More realistically, you would be teaching physical education classes, and if enough students signed up for a class like "weight training," you may get a section or two out of a full-time schedule (usually five classes, depending on district/area of the country). In most states, you would have to complete that state's requirements for a physical education teaching credential.
As for a head football coaching position, in most areas you do not have to be a credentialed teacher to be a coach. Each district sets forth its requirements based on state laws. However, head football coach positions are very hard to come by. The seniority factor is first to consider. Those positions usually go to someone who has been part of the program's coaching staff for many years; this person generally is part of the school's teaching staff as well. They're rare positions, and generally people cling to the head football coach position with dear life. At my previous school, the man there was head football coach for something like nine years. The man who replaced him is a teacher at the school, and had been at the school for years. He had also been part of the varsity coaching staff as an assistant coach for at least five years prior.
To end this long answer, you'd need to focus on the state's requirements for teacher credentialing in physical education, from what i can tell. Be prepared to teach general phys ed classes, too; it is unlikely you'd be hired full-time with only weightlifting classes. And, be patient in working your way up to head football coach--unless you are interested in frosh or junior varsity positions.

Question: What training techniques can have the same strengthening effect on your legs as weightlifting? My coach wants my to do weightlifting to build my muscles for sprinting, but it's waaay to expensive. He doesn't want me to do distance running. What do I do?
Answer: That's easy
Calf Raises= Repeatedly standing on your tippy-toes 20reps,3 sets
Fire Hydrants=Get on all fours and raise one leg up like a dog taking a piss,do both left and right, lift return lift return etc. 20reps,3sets
That's all I can think of right now,I have to go. I hope this helps.
Question: What is the best way to gain weight but in muscle mass besides weightlifting? If weightlifting is the best way, what exercises help the process of muscle weight gain? Thanks for the help.
Answer: Any high resistance work which effectively tears the muscle, causes it to rebuild bigger and stronger whilst it is resting. This is why you need heavy weights and sufficient rest periods to build the muscle.

Question: How long do you burn fat after weightlifting? Ive heard that while doing cardio, you only burn fat while doing cardio, but weightlifting you still burn fat after your done, how long do you burn fat for? Im skinny, VERY low body fat, if that makes a difference
Answer: According to sportsmedicine.com, your resting metabolism rate will be higher for up to a few hours after lifting weights if you train hard.
"A number of recent studies suggest that vigorous weight lifting exercise may elevate calorie burning above usual resting values for several hours after exercise. However, the average person at the gym who rests for several minutes between sets of exercise will likely not experience a prolonged elevation of postexercise energy expenditure."
Question: What happens if I eat and start weightlifting again? Just wondering, what happens if I was doing weightlifting, and I ate a small beef burger. Then I start again, what will happen?
What the FUCK is up with you guys?
Answer: You will lose all your hair and teeth and start making howling noises like a warewolf.
Do't put ketchup on it.
Question: What are the best supplements to use for weightlifting? I want to make sure I'm asking the right question here and that it's clear. I'm looking for a natural product that will at least help me get the most out of my weightlifting routines. By "make the most out of" I mean making sure that my muscles recover enough, get all the nutrients they need, etc. I have heard from a lot of people that whey protein is the way to go, but since I do not know what's "right" and "wrong", I haven't used anything yet. Please let me know if there are any safe, natural products out there that can help with what I'm describing (and if the best way is that I don't use any products and just eat right, etc, then that's fine too, please just efficiently explain to me what I should do). Thanks!
The advantages and disadvantages of your answer would be greatly appreaciated as well. Thanks!
Answer: Here is what's most effective and most important in this order....
Proper nutrition-around 50-30-20 carb, protein, fat ratio with the
carbs coming mostly from complex carbs, most of your
protein coming from lean, non-processed sources,
and most of your fat coming from unsaturated and your
omegas.
After this, a good muti-vitamin
Also, around a gallon of water a day
This is your foundation. You can't build a house that will stand without one. Once you have these things along with adequate rest, consider creatine which seems to be virtually universally accepted as the best supplement (other than protein which ideally would be provided in the diet).
As far as protein goes, make sure you're getting around a gram per lb of lean body mass daily if you want to build muscle.
Also, try to get at least 20 of these grams approximately every three hours give or take an hour (this is where meal replacements come in handy which i don't really consider a supplement, but don't ever take more than two a day).
Back to creatine, what it does is volumizes the muscles which means it calls the muscle cells to draw in fluid and expand in size. During this state, the muscle is stronger so you can push more weight and stimulate more real muscle growth. The volumizing effect goes away once you go off of it, but the real muscle growth you got from the temporary increased strength should remain.
