Yeast Extract MSG
Question: Yeast extract and torula yeast are laden with MSG ? That I heard from NaturalNews.com. Anyone else ?
Answer: yes a lot of foods you wouldn't expect are, here are a few on the top of my mind:
Autolyzed&hydrolyzed whatever
Natural flavors
Maltodextrin
Carageenan
Flavorings
Food manufacturers know that people know MSG is bad for you.so they get sneaky and hide it under different names. Word is out on trans fat and hydrogenated oils and their harm to your health, now manufaturers don't put hydrogenated on the list, now some say mono and diglycerides!!tricky tricky!!!!
Question: Is yeast (for baking) good or bad for you? i was wondering if yeast (for baking) was bad for your health, since i heard yeast extract (MSG) is bad for your health
anyones input would be appreciated, no rude or immature comments please
Answer: No, yeast isn't bad for you. Overdoing anything is bad for anyone, of course, and yeast can set off reactions in certain 'sensitive' individuals. In immoderate quantities or in sensitive individuals, yeast can be harmful to one's health. For a 'normal' person and in moderation, it's fine.
Question: Do Morning Star and Boca Foods contain MSG? I've been looking around on the internet and there are several articles claiming several processed vegetarian foods such as veggie burgers and other soy substitutes contain MSG in the form of yeast extract. Does this apply to Morning Star and Boca brand vegetarian/vegan foods? I can't seem to get a straight answer.
Answer: Some Morningstar Farms products do contain autolyzed yeast extract. That might be MSG since MSG is derived from autolyzed yeast. But it's not necessarily MSG. The best thing is to ask the company directly:
http://www.morningstarfarms.com/contact_us.aspx
Question: Naturally occurring MSG? I'm allergic to MSG, so I'm used to automatically scanning a new grocery item for it. On some bottles and cans, monosodium glutamate isn't listed as an ingredient, but there will be an asterisk or some symbol saying "No MSG except for the small amount naturally occurring in ..." Does MSG really naturally occur in things such as soy sauce, oysters, or clam chowder? The last one, clam chowder, came from a can of Campbell's Healthy Harvest Clam Chowder, which said no MSG except for the small amount naturally occurring in yeast extract. Does MSG really *naturally* occur in anything? And if so, what are the natural things I need to be wary of?
Answer: Glutamate does occur naturally in foods like cheese and tomatoes, oysters, clams, and soy sauce.
What does msg do to you? How do you know you're allergic?
Question: Vegetable bullion without msg? I can't find any. I've seen some that are labeled with "NO MSG" but when I read the ingredients, it has yeast extract which is the same thing as MSG. Anyone know of a good brand?
Yeast extract is the same thing as MSG because they contain free glutamic acids. I have made homemade broth but I'm a lazy cook
Answer: Try Vegetable "Better Than Bouillion." It's a concentrated vegetable paste, sold in small jars, and has no MSG.
Question: What about Quorn products. The yeast extracts are excitotoxins....BAD FOR YOU How about micoproteins? In trying to eat healthy, I have recently discovered that many meat substitutes are made from neurotoxins. Never mind that the sodium content of food has escalated in recent years. These ingredients like MSG, apartame and addiitives such as tvp, soy protein extract, yeast extract are evidentlly not good for us.
One of the other choices of meat (and fowl) substitutes is made by Quorn (UK) and although they have one of the aforementioned extracts in their ingredients, I have been unable to find out much about micoproteins.
Your help will be appreciated
Roger
Answer: If your looking to eat heathy i would stay away from it and stick to tofu
Question: Autolyzed yeast extract.? Is this msg? I have like no food in my house that does not have this in it. I'm trying to lose weight ad gain muscle and msg makes you fat. Is this msg? What else is msg?
Thanks in advance <3
Answer: It's a flavor enhancer and a big source of MSG.
Question: What ingredients are similar to MSG? Like yeast extract, hydrolyzed proteins, etc. Give me a list of all the ones you know.
Answer: I know aspartame is one of them. I bought this yogurt and didnt realize it had aspartame and now i dont want to eat it. Its so important to read labels.
Question: How safe is MSG and Aspartate? What if someone were to tell you that a chemical (MSG) added to food could cause brain damage in your children, and that this chemical could effect how your children's nervous systems formed during development so that in later years they may have learning or emotional difficulties?
What if there was scientific evidence that these chemicals could permanently damage a critical part of the brain known to control hormones so that later in life your child might have endocrine problems? How would you feel?
Suppose evidence was presented to you strongly suggesting that the artificial sweetener in your diet soft drink may cause brain tumors to develop, and that the number of brain tumors reported since the introduction of this widespread introduction of this artificial sweetener has risen dramatically? Would that affect your decision to drink these products and especially to allow your children to drink them? What if you could be shown overwhelming evidence that one of the main ingredients in this sweetener (aspartate) could cause the same brain lesions as MSG? Would that affect your buying decisions?
And finally, what if it could be demonstrated that all of these types of chemicals, called excitotoxins, could possibly aggravate or even precipitate many of today's epidemic neurodegenerative brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, ALS, and Alzheimer's disease? Would you be concerned if you knew that these excitotoxin food additives are a particular risk if you have diabetes, or have ever had a stroke, brain injury, brain tumor, seizure, or have suffered from hypertension, meningitis, or viral encephalitis?
Would you also be upset to learn that many of the brain lesions caused by these products in your children are irreversible and can result from a SINGLE exposure of these products in sufficient concentration?
How would you feel when you learn the food industry hides and disguises these excitotoxin additives (MSG and Aspartate) so they can't be recognized? Incredulous? Enraged? The fact is many foods are labeled as having "No MSG" but in fact not only contain MSG but also are laced with other excitotoxins of equal potency and danger.
All of the above are true. And all of these well known brain toxins are poured into our food and drink by the thousands of tons to boost sales. These additives have NO OTHER purpose other than to enhance to TASTE of food and the SWEETNESS of various diet products.
Hidden Sources Of MSG
As discussed previously, the glutamate (MSG) manufacturers and the processed food industries are always on a quest to disguise the MSG added to food. Below is a partial list of the most common names for disguised MSG. Remember also that the powerful excitotoxins, aspartate and L-cystine, are frequently added to foods and according to FDA rules require NO LABELING AT ALL.
* Food Additives that ALWAYS contain MSG *
Monosodium Glutamate
Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein
Hydrolyzed Protein
Hydrolyzed Plant Protein
Plant Protein Extract
Sodium Caseinate
Calcium Caseinate
Yeast Extract
Textured Protein (Including TVP)
Autolyzed Yeast
Hydrolyzed Oat Flour
Corn Oil
Answer: to the poster above, aspartate is one of the amino acids found in aspartame, along with phenylalanine.... MSG becomes a problem because the body makes it (glutamate) in sufficient amounts and it doesn't need to be added to the diet (I definitely stopped eating Ramen after an MRI showed breakdown of my blood-brain barrier, which excess excitotoxins can cause...)
Question: Are you aware of hidden MSG? Gelatine is 100% MSG and so is Yeast Extract. Then there's ingredients that contain some MSG such as "Natural Flavoring" , "Carogeenan", "Spices" and "Citric Acid". Is it common knowledge that there's this hidden MSG in food, beverages and medicines? Whose job properly inform the public about what they're really consuming rather than deceive them? Check out this website http://www.msgtruth.org/avoid.htm. How do you feel about all of this?
http://www.msgtruth.org/avoid.htm is the correct link
Answer: It's our job to protect our vitality & health for ourselves buddy.... it's our job to inform ourselves and not be stymied by the blatant lies & deception that food packaging is riddled with ........... a very sad state of affairs, i agree with you but they've been lying to us for so long that people like us who get up and complain about the ludicrous way they're allowed to sell us utter plastic food usually get branded as scaremongers ....... i've been called that a few times in my life ........ Your link doesn't work mate, but did you know that other additives that ALWAYS contain MSG are ~
hydrolysed vegetable protein,
hydrolysed plant protein,
plant protein extract,
calcium caseinate,
hydrolysed oat flour,
potassium glutamate,
hydrolysed protein,
hydrolysed anything else,
autolysedyeast,
sodium caseinate,
textured protein .................. Additives that frequently contain MSG are ~
malt extract,
bouillon,
stock,
natural beef or chicken flavor,
malt flavor,
broth,
flavouring,
seasoning .......... apparently HVP (hydrolised vegetable protein) has the same affects as MSG but they've latched onto an alternative way of dupeing us ♥
Buy yourself a book called "Additive Alert" by Julie Eady ........ pretty scary reading but very informative ......... ;0)
Fresh really is the best way to go to protect your precious health, youth and vitality ......;0)

Question: How many consumers know MSG (monosodium glutamate) is hidden in innocent looking food processes.? HIDDEN SOURCES OF PROCESSED FREE GLUTAMIC ACID (MSG) NAMES OF INGREDIENTS THAT CONTAIN ENOUGH MSG
TO SERVE AS COMMON MSG-REACTION TRIGGERS
The MSG-reaction is a reaction to free glutamic acid that occurs in food as a consequence of manufacture. MSG-sensitive people do not react to protein (which contains bound glutamic acid) or any of the minute amounts of free glutamic acid that might be found in unadulterated, unfermented, food.
These ALWAYS contain MSG
Glutamate
Glutamic acid
Gelatin
Monosodium glutamate
Calcium caseinate
Textured protein
Monopotassium glutamate
Sodium caseinate
Yeast nutrient
Yeast extract
Yeast food
Autolyzed yeast
Hydrolyzed protein
Hydrolyzed corn gluten
Natrium glutamate (natrium is Latin/German for sodium)
These OFTEN contain or create MSG during processing
Carrageenan
Maltodextrin
Malt extract
Natural pork flavoring
Citric acid Malt flavoring
Bouillon, Broth,Natural chicke

MSG is not a preservative. It is used to "enhance flavor." MSG used to be sold to the public via a product called "Accent." It was a product you applied like salt to improve flavor.
Answer: yes i know that i had suffered terribly from migraine headaches then i went to diamond headache clinic and they took me off all food that contain MSG and they went away its unreal how many foods have them!!!!!!
Question: Is there any spice will make vegan foods taste more like meat? I'm aware that there are many processed foods containing little meat or none at all that taste like meat, such as beef bouillion, beef broth, "vegetable broth", "yeast extract", "bacon" bits... these are all based on MSG, which causes its own set of health problems.
What I'm looking for is a real spice (As in, something that comes from a plant) that will make food taste like meat.
Answer: Meat doesn't really taste like anything except for what it's seasoned with, just the same as tofu.
For example, to make tofu or seitan etc.taste like chicken or turkey, you can use sage or poultry seasoning.
So, if you want something that "tastes" like meat, just look up a recipe for the specific thing you want, veganized, like vegan "chicken wings" or vegan "sausage" etc.
Question: Can you help add to my list of hidden MSG (Mono-sodium glutamate) names? well MSG as we all know, it is bad for you, but brings heaven to your tongue and makes you hunger for more food, I'm trying to avoid consuming this flavor enhancer so im trying to find out their hidden names
these are some of the "hidden" names i found for MSG
MSG
Monosodium glutamate
Monopotassium glutamate
Glutamate
Glutamic Acid
Vegetable Protein Extract
Yeast Extract
Autolyzed Yeast
Yeast food or nutrient (not 100% sure)
Textured Protein (not 100% sure)
Calcium Caseinate
Accent
Vetsin
Ajinomoto
Agino moto
Meet Tenderizer
Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein
Flavour enhancer (could be a name for it as well)
all these i came up with in my research of MSG, so i can try and avoid it, i was wondering if anyone else can help add to the list if im missing one?
and i was wondering, are all these flavor enhancers consider bad like MSG? (link below)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavour_enhancer
anyones help would be appreciated
Disodium Inosinate
Disodium Guanylate
shows up in this list here(link below) so im assuming everything on this list is bad for you like MSG
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavour_enhancer
well i am a vegan, cook everything at home, im trying to do this more for my family since they are too stubburn to eat healthy, so ill warn them if things have MSG
Answer: There are a couple that I didn't see on your list but is added to a lot of different foods now.
Disodium Inosinate
Disodium Guanylate
These two ingredients usually show up together in the ingredient label.
Question: Did you know that MSG is natural, a neurotoxin, and has many derivatives? Did you know that MSG is natural, a neurotoxin (causing many symptoms in various degrees of harm) and has many derivatives? Other ingredients derived from MSG include Gelatin, Natural Flavor, Citric Acid, Spices, Maltodextrin, Carageenan, Yeast Extract and Malted Barley Flour, just to name a few among many others that can be easily found, even in Vitamin Water: http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html

How do you feel about all of this information? Will it change the way you eat/drink? It's also written in some books; not just online.
Why do consumers complain about obesity when they don't even bother to read the label on products to begin with? With MSG derivative ingredients, it makes it even harder to decipher labels (i.e. Maltodextrin or Carageenan, which sound okay, but they're also derivatives of MSG). Well, like they say, knowledge is power
Answer: Yes, and it's also present in dog food, which is even more dangerous. The U.S. government has probably been invaded by aliens and they want to make the human race extinct so that they could take over. It's either that, or our government are a bunch of greedy liars, deceivers and old, selfish, stubborn and arrogant geezers who only *pretend* to care about our people, but care more about profit and their own reputation.

Answer: lots of natural substances are bad for you...many can kill you
Question: Can dog food have hidden MSG in it? I have been doing some reading on Monosodium Glutamate also called Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, which the MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added. MSG is the sodium salt of glutamic acid. Glutamic acid is an amino acid, one of the building blocks of protein. It is found in virtually all food and, in abundance, in food that is high in protein, including meat, poultry, cheeses, and fish.
Hydrolyzed proteins, used by the food industry to enhance flavor, are simply proteins that have been chemically broken apart into amino acids. The chemical breakdown of proteins may result in the formation of free glutamate that joins with free sodium to form MSG. In this case, the presence of MSG does not need to be disclosed on labeling.
Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance! I just read that MSG can be hidden in glueten. Has anyone heard or know, of this happening in dog food? I wonder, if this could be part of the reason dogs sometimes do not want to eat the higher quality dog foods, that do not have this additive hidden in the glueten? Maybe the dogs become addicted to MSG like humans and rats do, so they want that food and want to eat lots of it. I know celiac patients are told to not eat glueten and MSG and dogs can have this disease too. And, MSG has been reported to cause symptoms similar to celiac disease, so maybe the MSG is causeing the intestinal difficulties some of our pets have. Does anyone know of an article about dogs and msg? What are your thoughts on this?
Edit: I read on wikipedia that MSG can be labeled as flavoring too, also MSG is only one of several forms of free glutamate used in foods. Free glutamate may also be present in a wide variety of other additives, including: hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed yeast, yeast extract, SOY.
So this is common knowledge and I have been in the dark? Scary.
Answer: heres a link for further information: http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/diffdx/msg.html
Among its more subtle, long-term effects, MSG makes the body produce histamine, which results in what we think is an allergic reaction to food or pollen or some other commonly misidentified culprit. Plainly, it is just another poison brought to us by the generosity of the chemical industry. How many dogs are treated for "flea allergies" when in fact, they are allergic to the chemicals in the food? Don't bother changing. And don't be fooled by the high-priced "all-natural" dog food or human foods! MSG gets by the FDA and USDA because it is indeed "natural."
Check labels: Among the ingredients listed here, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, yeast extract, autolyzed yeast extract, and gelatin always contain MSG. Disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate are expensive additives which work synergistically with MSG, and have little or no flavor-enhancing capabilities of their own. The other ingredients often, if not always, contain MSG. MSG is being sprayed right on fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and vegetables as they grow -- even those used in baby food.
In the 1970s, reluctant food processors "voluntarily" took processed free glutamic acid (MSG) out of baby food. Today it's back, in fertilizers called "Omega Protein Refined/Hydrolyzed Fish Emulsion" and "Steam Hydrolyzed Feather Meal," both of which contain hydrolyzed proteins; and in a product called AuxiGro WP Plant Metabolic Primer (AuxiGro) produced by Emerald BioAgriculture (formerly Auxein Corporation), which contains both hydrolyzed protein(s) and "monosodium glutamate." AuxiGro is being sprayed on some of the vegetables we and our children will eat, into the air we and our children must breath, and onto the ground from which it can move into drinking water. Head lettuce, leaf lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, and peanuts were among the first crops targeted. On September 12, 2000, the Auxein Corporation Web site gave the following information:
Crops registered include: Celery; Fresh Market Cucumbers; Edible Navy and Pinto Beans; Grapes; Bulb Onions; Bell, Green and Jalapeno Peppers; Iceberg Head Lettuce; Romaine and Butter Leaf Lettuce; Peanuts; Potatoes; Snap Beans; Strawberries; Processing Tomatoes; Fresh Tomatoes; and Watermelons.
Today, there is no crop that we know of that has not been approved for treatment with MSG by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Do you feed your puppy or litter cottage cheese? Milk? There is processed free glutamic acid (MSG) in many dairy products. We strongly suspect that the presence of MSG in many dairy products has resulted in adverse reactions in many people, leading many of them to erroneously believe that they are lactose intolerant. It is our strong belief that if the dairy industry would eliminate the use of processed free glutamic acid (MSG) from dairy products, reports of lactose intolerance would drop dramatically, and dairy sales would increase.
Any fermented product will contain some processed free glutamic acid because fermentation will break down protein. If citric acid is used in the yoghourt and the citric acid is made from corn (the most common source of citric acid), there will be some MSG introduced into the product because in manufacturing citric acid, a remnant of protein remains and that remnant is broken down during production. If the yoghourt includes aspartame (about 40% aspartic acid), the product is contraindicated for MSG-sensitive people since aspartic acid, based on animal studies, works in the body in the same way as does glutamic acid.
Many MSG-sensitive people find that they suffer adverse reactions from domestic cheeses that use pasteurized milk in place of raw milk, and enzymes instead of rennet. Apparently, the new, more powerful enzymes break down more of the milk protein than was the case in earlier years.
The most common problem for MSG-sensitive people in dairy products appears to be the use of a food ingredient identified on food labels as "carrageenan." Carrageenan may interact with the milk protein in dairy products or may act independently, resulting in some processed free glutamic acid (MSG). Carrageenan is found in most whipping cream, chocolate milk, buttermilk, cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, and ice cream.
Information researched, compiled, and edited from sources such as Truth in Labeling Campaign http://www.truthinlabeling.org/
It is the tip of a big old "MSG-berg", that the main-stream media does little to report. A long time ago (probably ten years or so) Connie Chung did a feature (tv) on MSG, then we near heard it mentioned again. Wonder why that is?
If the Internet is the newspaper for this century, maybe we will all begin to get the info that we need to stay alive.
