Question: Making Kilju from absolute scratch, need homemade yeast. How to extract it? I am making this from scratch and I am stuck on the yeast. I know yeast is found in "sourdough starters" which is basically flour and water, and I know it is found on grapes. My only question is how do I extract it so it is almost exactly store bought yeast (species doesnt matter).
Also, if there are any other ways to collect or extract yeast that would be very helpful. I already know how to make the sugar from fruits so this is my only obstacle.
Answer: you can't make an equivalant of storebought yeast at home... its too complicated to do
some people brew by using dried rice (has some yeast) or a slice of bread, and just float it in the brew... but its a gamble what will be the results.

Answer: well boy you know I don't like you however
in this case I am willing to help your pathetic struggles
while in theory all yeast is yeast, some have different ( not good tastes ). Don't use bread starters, it is the wrong strain of yeast and adding flour to wine is never a good thing.
You would be best to buy wine yeast from a home brew shop or failing that beer yeast. Grapes do carry yeasts on their skins and you may be able to make an alcoholic beverage from just putting the grape skins in contact with the sugar water for several days. Greeks continue to do this even today and not use commercial wine yeast. You may also get a wild yeast and it will taste terrible, or even a bacteria producing vinegar.
a commercial wine starter is far safer.
depending on the fruit , you may have pectin problems interfering with the yeast extracting the fructose. If you going to distill it use a freezer rather than a fractional distillation as your an arrogant fool and if you get it wrong it will blind you
using heaters and extra vitamin b and treble the sugar and then waiting months for the specific gravity to fall to saf bottling level I could get beer to 9% alcohol. It might be an idea for you to get a specific gravity float so you can calculate the alcohol content.
if you want more advice you may fall to your knees and beg in supplication for further email assistance

Question: Is torula yeast and yeast extract bad for you? Okay so I've read some ingredients in some vegan meat products and they contain both of these. I searched it up online and it turns out that some people say both these ingredients are just as bad as MSG. Is this true?
Answer: Really? I had not heard that.
I know torula yeast has a lot of b-vitamins in it, I'm not sure about yeast extract. But people sometimes use torula as a way to increase vitamins and protein in a dish.
Nutritional Yeast, which is similar but much better tasting than torula - is actually recommended for vegans who want to increase their b-vitamin intake.
Torula is a by-product of making paper, while Nutritional Yeast is grown on molasses.
MSG isn't bad for people who are not sensitive to it.
Question: How do you extract yeast from a bottled beer? I'm thinking of brewing a good hefeweizen with some of that delicious banana-bread Franziskaner yeast. I'm just not sure how to culture it. Do you just pour a whole beer into a yeast starter, or what?
Answer: It is unlikely you will get the primary strain from the bottle. Weizens are commonly bottle conditioned with a bottling strain.
But if you want to try you'd pour off the beer, then flame the lip and pour into sterile wort. Step up as required. I'd buy 3068 and be done with it. Ferment 70-75F if you want the banana bomb, 60-65F for clove.
