Milk Products
Question: What common grocery products do not contain milk? I need to go grocery shopping and was hoping there are "lists" of milk vs. non milk products.
Answer: vegan cheeses, there is vegan soy creme cheese and many other varieties of cheeses
soy milk, rice milk, almond milk (contain no milk, they are either made of soy, almond, or rice, there is also oat milk)
ask the people at the store
Question: What are some chip brands that dont contain milk products? i was at the store today lookin to buy a bag of chips and most of them had milk products such a just milk, cheese, and or are made in a factory that makes milk products. so if you can tell me a few that be great. also if you could tell me were to get then that be even more great.
Answer: Well I'm obsessed with any chips that are salt & vinegar flavoured, and I know Kettle(s&v flavoured) chips have no milk products, nor do French Fries.
By the way, if they say something like "Made in a factory that also produces products containg milk" or "May contain traces of milk", these are still okay for vegans. Those warnings are there only for people with allergies and are "just in case" they have the slightest bit of milk so they can't get sued if someone has an allergic reaction. But by buying them you aren't contributing money to non-vegan things
Question: How concerned are you about the safety of products made in China in light of the China milk scandal? With nearly 53,000 infants downed by melamine-contaminated dairy products, China's milk scandal could very well be just the tip of the iceberg. Philippine Health Secretary Francisco Duque III announced that all milk products from China will be tested, and banned if found contaminated with melamine. But how guaranteed are we that other China-made products are safe and reliable? Share your thoughts and tell the community what you think.
Answer: Extremely concerned would be an understatement. It's a known fact that not all products in the market have passed quality standards for safety and health issues, and we can't ignore that a large number of them come from China, which according to many critics and agencies have a really low standard of monitoring their safety and quality- all in the pursuit of profit. Now, in my case, being in a country that has known lapses in some government agencies and corruption is pretty high - not to mention the fact the majority of the population believe that foreign goods are better- this leads to all sorts of god-know-what type of substandard products come in. Also, the fact that there has been no high profile case involving foods or products that have entered the country where those responsible have been caught and brought to justice... let us not forget the issue of low quality chinese products coming into the country and are all over Divisoria. Such is that I feel we have become the dumping ground of any substandard product that was banned in other parts of the world. And when (and believe me when I say when!) a scandal relating to a banned substandard product enters the country and our kids or adults start dying- finger pointing, senate inquiries, state witnesses and every politician jumping on the band wagon, all of this will be swept away by the next "high profile" news. For those who can afford quality, good for them. But sadly, many of us cannot- and the breeding ground for low quality stuff that are dangerous is magnified. We just have to trust our own judgement when buying products made from China or for that matter anywhere else. Knowing the origin of a certain product and its tract record is already a winning combination to avoid the same fate of those babies. But seriously, compromising quality of milk for babies?!? Little ones who have no way of choosing their path yet? All for profit? That's really low.
Question: Are marshmallows made with milk products? I'm working on my daughter's first birthday party. The recipe I found calls for marshmallows -- Does anyone know is marshmallows contain milk products?
Answer: The marshmallow is a confection that, in its modern form, consists of sugar or corn syrup, beaten egg whites, gelatin that has been pre-softened in water, gum arabic, and flavorings, whipped to a spongy consistency. The traditional recipe used an extract from the mucilaginous root of the marshmallow plant, a shrubby herb (Althaea officinalis), instead of gelatin; the mucilage acted as a cough suppressant .
Commercial marshmallows are a late nineteenth century innovation. Since Doumak's patented extrusion process of 1948, marshmallows are extruded as soft cylinders, cut in sections and rolled in a mix of finely powdered cornstarch and confectioner's sugar. Current brands of commercially made marshmallows include Kraft and Nestle.
Marshmallows are also used in hot chocolate or café mocha (mochachino), Mallomars, Peeps and other candy, Rice Krispie treats, ice cream flavors such as Rocky Road, and S'mores, on top of candied yams during Thanksgiving, and in several other foodstuffs

Question: I get symptoms of lactose intolerance with low-fat milk only but not other milk products. Is it normal? I usually don't get these symptoms after consuming other milk products such as cheese or yogurt - well at least not as strong. Is it normal to suffer from lactose intolerance primarily with skim or low-fat milk and not with other milk products?
Answer: Low-fat milk, especially skimmed is quite bad for you. It has gone through several processes to make it low-fat, leaving behind its milky ways!
Most people are lactose intolerant, and it's different things that can affect them. You may your symptoms either getting worse, or they will disappear.
Buy good organic full fat milk as it is the freshest and purest you can buy.
Question: Can I eat fish and milk products together? I've heard that eating fish and milk products together is balefully for the human health. Is it true? And if it's true what happens with our body, what damage has been done? Does it applies for all milk products, or just for some of them?
Answer: I think, we can eat fish with the milk. Because after eating fish, we still drink milk. You can eat together if the taste do not make you uncomfortable.
Question: Do milk products accelerate the weight loss process? I've heard somewhere if we put on weight easily then we should stop consuming milk products. Can someone please explain?
Answer: Anything made from "whole milk" has a lot of fat. Try skim milk [products] instead.
Question: Is it possible to be allergic to milk but not other dairy products? I am 17, and up until recently I was not allergic to anything. However, about a year ago, I became very sensitive to milk. It makes my stomach very unsettled. I tried drinking lactaid milk, and taking a lactaid pill with regular milk, but neither helped. However, other milk products like cheese and ice cream don't seem to bother me. What do you think the issue might be?
I drink only no-fat (skim) milk, and the other dairy products are no fat/reduced fat if that makes a difference...
Answer: By the time cheese is manufactured it sometimes loses the ingredient you are allergic to but you might be intolerant so take care. I am allergic to dairy foods badly and can't even have tablets wit lactose round them.
Also you might be allergic to lactose or milk fat...do you know which?
email me if in trouble as I have done a lot of research on this.

Question: Why do higher fat milk products last longer? Why is it that when I look at the expiration dates on milk products, as the % of milk fat goes up so does the self life? Skim milk may be a couple of weeks while heavy cream may be a couple of months. Why is this?
I mean shelf life, sorry.
Answer: Bacteria don't reproduce as quickly in a high fat environment, because there is less air. That's why you can leave oil and shortening and lard and butter (to an extent) sitting at room temperature and it doesn't spoil. It does develop a "stale" taste after a while, though.

Question: I can't have citric acid or milk products. Any suggestions on what I can eat or drink besides water? I have GERD and if I have citric acid or milk products I get really sick after a while and it isn't good at all. I need a drink besides water or soy milk bc i can't drink that forever.
Answer: There are a number of milk substitutes. Aside from soy milk, there are rice milk, almond milk, oat milk, hemp milk, and possibly some others. You might also try tea, regular, green, black, and/or herbal. Try finding them in large grocery stores and health food stores.
Question: Why don't some vegetarians drink milk and drink and eat milk products? Getting milk from animals doesn't harm animals, so why do some vegetarians not dirnk milk and drink and eat milk products?
Answer: It DOES harm the animals. Animals where not made to give us milk and we were not made to drink it. it is somthing that devoloped during desperate times.... Milk is for baby cows and to produce milk for people cows are inpregnated mechanically, and have there calves taken from then as soon as they have them. it is a horror to watch a dairy cow loose its young. they scream for days from the loss of a baby. The baby cows are then starved and eaten as veal, or grow and are killed a few years later for meat. it is also a horrific thing to watch a dairy cow collapse and die from malnutrition. cows are not milk machines any more then human wemon were made to consistantly produce milk.
also milk is not something that is good for us to drink. It is no more neccesarry for a person to drink cows milk then it is to drinks dogs milk. it contains fat and calories that are needed to help a BABY COW grow up strong, not an adult human....kale and other dark green veggies actually contain more calcium then cows milk, and DOESNT contain a compound found in cows milk that actually causes calcium to be lost in urine.
this is my opinion on the matter, if you want proof that animal ARE indeed harmed during the milking process watch this video. it is very enlightening. http://veg-tv.info/Earthlings

Question: Why do Europeans and Indians (from India) use more milk products in their diet than other countries? Historically, how did milk products become more a part of their diet. It's not lactose intolerance either because that develops in a population due to the lack of using milk products (the ability to digest lactose isn't needed).
Answer: Actually it isn't lactose intolerance that develops, it's lactose tolerance that's the newly evolved norm for Europeans. Until about 8k ago no-one adult could have drank milk without getting diarrhea (milk was used to cure constipation in ancient Roman times).
It's the development of the lactase persistance allele since the neolithic that's allowed adult Europeans to digest milk, so now we drink a lot of it, and it's become the norm in European cultures (the mutation is nearly at 100% in northern Europe.
Dairy consumption started in Neolithic Turkey about the seventh milenia BC (8k or so ago)... and moved into Europe when neolithic farmers and their animals moved into Europe.
http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v455/n7212/full/nature07180.html
It's good for Europeans as our diets tend to be short of vitamin D (which is also why we have recently evolved extra-pale skin).
Its been suggested that the ability to digest milk appeared in one of the central European Neolithic cultures, the Linerarbandkeramik culture:

Question: If you're lactose intolerant, is there any harm in continuing to consume milk products if you take lactaid? I'm lactose intolerant. I've found that taking lactaid works great as long as I take enough of it and don't overdo the milk products. However, I'm concerned that I could be doing damage that I'm not aware of to my digestive system by cheating this way. I'm wondering if there any limits to the effectiveness of lactaid.
Answer: Not as far as I've found. I have the same problem. Plain milk is out of the question, but I have a great fondness for ice cream and eat it regularly, mostly in combination with lactaid.
I love cheese and can even get away with some pizza once in a while. I've been doing this for years with only the occasional problem.
Good luck!
