Question: biotechnology? what are the advantages and disadvantages of biotechnology in agriculture for "USA,Canada, and 3rd world countries"
Answer: Advantage=it can increase yeild of crops
increase resistant to disease
raise nutrient levels in plants and produce desired varietes
Disadvantages=Natural is always preffered over biotechnological eg american poultry is banned in europe because of genetic engineering
It can disrupt the ecosystems
increase resistant to disease can cause microorganisms to adapt to these changes with evolution
and can help them acquire traits resistant to even these genetic barriers
Question: BIOtechnology? hey anyone know anything about agricultural biotechnoloy, what it is, any specific examples, any websites to read up on it or anything that can be useful in my term paper?
Answer: Norman Borlaug has a pre DNA agricultur biotechnology or green revolution search in wiki or google and then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSyAwuQPM…

Question: What type of biotechnology is the human genome? I needa do a summer project about how any one type of biotechnology works based on an article found in a magazine.
Found an article of the human genome and was wondering what type of biotechnology it is.
Kinda new in the biotech stuff, never really studied it
Answer: genetic engineering.. DNA recombination technology
Question: Will biotechnology companies usually pay for you to get your masters and doctorate? I am interested in biomedical research and biotechnology, but I know that many jobs in this area require doctorates. Can you get a job with a company after college and then go for your higher degrees with their financial support? If not, how do most people pay for all of these things?
Answer: Welcome to the land of working while you are in school to pay for the things not covered by your student loans.
Question: What is the difference between a graduate program in biotechnology and one in applied biotechnology? I'm looking into Professional Science Masters programs in Biotechnology, and some are in biotechnology and others are in applied biotechnology. They sound the same on the various university websites, but I want to be sure I'm applying for the right type of program.
Answer: there both ******
Question: How Could biotechnology help reduce food shortages in developing countries? im confused with this question and i need some help with it. any ideas anyone??
How Could biotechnology help reduce food shortages in developing countries?
Answer: it could reduce life expectancy, therefore making the population smaller giving more food per head.
Question: What are the different ways that biotechnology is related to Gattaca? I am doing a project for biotechnology.
I just wanted to know how does biotechnology play a role in the movie 'Gattaca'
Answer: This is probably a really bad answer because i havent watched the movie in ages. But, basically, naturally concieved children have become outdated and now a mother and father with have their eggs and sperm sent off to a lab to be fertilised and then genetically manipulated so that the chances of health conditions is dramatically lowered and they will be able to give them positive aspects (good looks, brains) of the parents. So, i suppose it relates to biotechnology in that they are manipulating life to be "superior" but really they are just messing with natural selection. (i don't actually know what your course is about so sorry if it's not right :) )
Question: What is a good question that is against biotechnology? Anything to do with biotechnology is ok.? My class is doing a debate for biotechnology and against biotechnology. I am in the audience and have to ask the two sides questions.
Answer: do you believe a parent has the right to pick and choose what traits their unborn child will have using biotechnology?
do you think it is playing god when people's genes are changed or a life is saved ahead of time using biotechnology?
i just had this debate in my class....im in enlglish 11 honors and im not sure if these are the same grade level questions you are asking for but hope they help.
Question: What is Biotechnology in a simple Definition? I need to make a report with a partner in my Agricultural Science class, and I got assigned to do Biotechnology. But, I have no idea what it is, and I tried looking it up on Google, but all I get is the really complicated stuff. So, what is Biotechnology? Thanks so much.
Answer: Biotechnology is a science that instead of using agricultural machinery and chemical uses of living.
For example, instead of using different pesticides which are dangerous side effects of the Pest Coccinellidae used to eat them. Without any serious consequences.
Several main advantage of science:
1. Save time
2. Reducing the cost
3. Saving work force
4. Saving resources
Question: What is a good Biotechnology company to invest in? I am new at this and I have been researching stuff but I can't decide and I don't know what is a good company to invest in.
Thanks in advance
This is for a project for my biotechnology class.
Answer: i can give you several
Human Genome Sciences Inc. (HGSI)- they just developed a treatment for lupus and if the FDA approves it in the next year it will be the first new drug on the market for it in 30 years. It will likely gross 1 billion a year.
Cord Blood America (CBAI.OB)- its a microcap stock with room for a lot of growth. they specialize in the storage of umbilical cord blood.
Keryx Pharmaceuticals (KERX) they develop cancer drugs and in 4 to 6 months they will release the phase 3 data for their newest drug which treats multiple cancers

Question: What is an interesting biotechnology topic to do a project on? I have to right a small 500 word report on a specific biotechnology, and I have no idea what I could write about.
Answer: Nanotechnology. In a matter of decades, we will be able to send robots the size of red blood cells into a person's bloodstream. The potential applications for this technology are just about limitless:
Nanobots will be able to travel through the capillaries of the brain and scan it from the inside with high resolution.
Nanobots will be able to deliver highly targeted medical treatments to specific regions of the body, eliminating broad chemical treatments that often come with unwanted side effects.
Nanobots will be able to deliver nutrients far more efficiently than the food we eat or the air we breathe. Ray Kurzweil, author of The Singularity Is Near, estimates that a person with robotic red blood cells will be able to maintain an Olympic sprint for fifteen minutes without taking a breath.

Question: What are the best colleges for biotechnology or biochemistry? What are the best colleges for biotechnology or biochemistry?
I was wondering which classes would be the best for either of these majors since I like both and I feel like it's a field that I might want to go into someday. Also if you you could note some of the requirements to get into these schools that would be great!
Answer: princeton
Question: How can biotechnology be used to preserve biodiversity? New crops have been developed by transferring the genes of one crop into another. This produces proteins usually only found in the donor.
How can other new technology, specifically biotechnology, help preserve biodiversity of plants and animals?
Answer: Unless the habitat of the endangered species is protected, all the technology in the world will not stop the extinction of organisms! How do you recreate a tropical rain forest or the arctic tundra using biotechnology. If a single species of organism is on the verge of extinction, one can use surrogate incubation of embyros in a less valuable animals (Grebe's zebra embryo was incubated in a quarter horse mare producing the rare zebra foal successfully). Or we can collect the seeds of every plant in the world and store them in a safe place. However there are seeds that must be passed through the digestive tract of an animal to get them to germinate. Without the animals, the seeds may not germinate and grow. Or they grow but the pollinators are no longer available.
So I disagree that biotechnology is the salvation of biodiversity!
