Daily Vitamin
Question: How are daily vitamin requirements determined? I've always wondered how the daily vitamin requirements are determined. For example, how did they decide that the human body needs so much Vitamin A, so much Vitamin B, etc. Any ideas?
Answer: There are research scientists who perform a lot of tests and experiments on both lab animals and human subjects and have done for many years. They then analyze their findings to determine the optimum amount of each vitamin for people, usually dependent on age, gender and calorific requirements.
Question: What is a good daily vitamin for a young semi-vegetarian girl? Hello,
I recently cut out all red meat in my diet (and I know this doesn't make me vegetarian btw) but I would consider becoming vegetarian inthe future. But as of right now, I only cut out red meat. Is there any food I should eat more of now? And what is a good inexpensive daily vitamin that will help me get the right vitamins?
Answer: Don't listen to the other people. Red meat has no vitamins that are not in other foods. In fact, neither do chicken, eggs, or dairy.
Chicken and fish have all the same vitamins as red meat without as much fat... BUT there is still a lot of cholesterol. Similarly, eggs and dairy have most of the same vitamins with a lot of cholesterol, and whole-fat dairy products also have way too much fat, and dairy is unnatural in general. (You probably think it'd be weird to drink a woman's breastmilk... so how come you will drink a cow's breastmilk? 0_o)
Anyway.... if you want to get vitamins the healthy way, eat more vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains. For example, you can get protein from nearly all vegetables, but there is a lot in whole grains, beans, and nuts. There are a lot of good websites that will tell you other nutrients, or you can just google the ones you're worried about. But if you eat a variety of foods (not the same things for every meal), you will probably get everything without even trying.
In general, it's better for your body to get nutrients from food than from a pill. The only exception would be if your body has some problem acquiring certain nutrients. But you should see a doctor if you're worried about something like that.
Question: What time of day should one take a daily vitamin? I usually take my daily vitamin in the morning. I have had several people tell that taking vitamins in the afternoon/evening is more beneficial towards the body's absorption. Any insight from those in the health/nutrition field would be much appreciated!
Answer: In the Am after your breakfast. With plenty of water
Question: daily vitamin? whats a good daily multivitamin to take? just for "prevenative maintanence" kinda thing. i'm a 19 yr old female, if that helps.
thanks.
Answer: purchase and take a multi-vitamin for women once a day. my daughter and I take the women's version and my husband and son take the men's version. the daughter is 18, the son is 20, would not recommend it for children tho. use Flintstones for the young ones. if you can't swallow a large vitamin...you can chew a couple of the flintstone ones. that was my Dr.'s recommendation when I had trouble swallowing large pills. there are liquid vitamins also that you could take. do a little research. good luck to you.
Question: How do you get your child to take a daily vitamin? My son is almost 4. He does get a lot of vegetables, healthy lean protein, whole grains, dairy...but he doesn't eat any fruit other than apple sauce. Weird, I know. The kid turns his nose up at a banana but will eat a plate of broccoli. Anyway, he also won't take a daily vitamin. I've tried gummies and chewables, but no dice. Any ideas of what I can do to get him a daily vitamin?
Answer: I don't, I used to use them but then I found out they are not necessary and they also are not regulated. There are often little surprise ingredients in them and it's the combination or foods that we need to absorb lots of this stuff. So most of a vitamin doesn't get absorbed anyways.
Question: What are the negatives of taking a 1-month expired daily vitamin supplement? I've got a bottle of Bluebonnet Super Earth mini-caplets that just expired last month (6-06). The caplets themself look fine (dark green) but have tiny white spots. So what's the negative of taking these?
Will these still be just as effective?
How long does it take for a daily vitamin to become nutritionally worthless?
Will taking these give me super-human powers?
Thanks.
Answer: I wouldn't think that there are any negative points about it. I believe this expiration date stuff is only a way that drug companies use to make more money. Supposedly, they're not going to guarantee the benifits of any medicine that is out of date. I think that's BS anyway. Best of luck to you.........
Question: Ive been advised to start taking a daily vitamin to build my immune system but cant take pills, any ideas? I have been advised to start taking a daily vitamin to help build my immune system but have a hard time swallowing big pills, is it ok to take children's vitamins in its place?
Answer: You can find liquid vitamins, which would be better than children's.
Question: What do you take/recommend for a daily vitamin and why? I want to start taking a daily vitamin, and I just want to see what others take and why. I am in my mid-twenties and have a healthy diet and fitness regime. I heard that pre-natals are possibly the best, even if you aren't pregnant. I also heard liquid vitamins are absorbed more than pills. I'm interested in your opinions!
Answer: Your healthy diet and fitness regimen is suppose to be enough... but it's not... therefore your decision to add nutritional supplements is a good idea.
Pre-natal supplements will add to your natural nutritional intake for sure... just be sure that you get the RDA of calcium [chewable calcium is absorbed much better] and Vit.D too which goes hand in hand for calcium absorption. This is especially necessary while in your mid-twenties when estrogen production levels start to slow down.
Avoid any supplements that are Time-released for now.
As for recommending any liquid supplements I wouldn't... they have their place for some people I suppose but once the seal is broken the ingredients tend to turn rancid rather quickly even if expiration date says otherwise... if you go that way do refrigerate after opening~~~
Question: What is a good daily vitamin for hair? I take biotin, but is there one vitamin with a whole bunch of vitamins in one? Like, that has everything you need daily, and has more than one thing that supports healthy hair?
Answer: "The hair and the skin are derived from the same tissue as the nervous system, so to take care of your hair, you need to take care of you nervous system. Vitamin E neutralizes toxic oxidants and protects oxidant-sensitive membranes. Thus vitamin E is justifiably known as an antioxidant..."
Overall, Vitamin E is a good anti-oxidant that protects the nervous system, which is ultimately where your hair and nails come from.
Whatever vitamin you take, make sure it has enough Vitamin E as well as biotin. They are the important ones for skin/hair/nail health.
Question: Do you give your dog a daily vitamin? I was considering giving my 2 year old Shih Tzu a daily vitamin. I've heard some veterinarians say that it's a good idea, but some say not to and they don't necessarily need it.
I want her to be the healthiest she can be.
Answer: If you feed your dog a high quality dog food then giving vitamins is not needed. I don't ever give my dog vitamins. They are fed Merrick dog food so they get the proper nutrients from their food. all my dogs are extremely healthy.
Question: Trying to find a good multi daily vitamin? I am trying to find a good multi daily vitamin. I am 29 yrs old and female.
Any advice would be great, thanks!
Answer: Honestly, they are pretty much the same. For instance, I wouldn't spend more money thinking it's going to give me better results! The key is to get the best one geared toward your needs, for example they have different vitamins based on gender, age and whether or not you are lacking any vitamins or have a deficiency, like do you need more iron, more calcium, etc. If you're not sure, the general one-a-day vitamins are just fine! Hope this helps. Good Luck!
Question: I'm looking for a good vitamin for me to start taking daily? I'm 20 years old and everyone keeps telling me that I need to start taking a daily vitamin. I only weigh about 105 pounds if that info is needed. If you know of a good inexpensive vitamin for me to start taking please let me know what kind and about how much it costs.
Thanks
Answer: I take Walgreen's brand One Daily for Women. It has a lot of good stuff in it. A bottle of 100 pills costs $6. If you don't live near a Walgreen's, CVS probablly has their own brand, or you can go to Walmart and get a similar pill from their brand called Equate. The prices of these vitamins should be similar.
You should also be taking Calcium Citrate, preferably one that has Vitamin D as well. You can find it in just about any drugstore. Again, stick with the generic drugstore brands as they will be cheaper.
Question: Does taking a daily vitamin really make a difference? I just purchased One A Day Men's Formula daily vitamins and was wondering if taking these pills daily really makes a difference.
Answer: I have taken one a day women daily vitamins.. and I can tell it has helped.
Question: i want to start taking natural supplements but can i take them all at one time with a daily vitamin? i want to take gelatin, cranberry, cinnamon, i already take garlic and a daily vitamin. so my question is can i take these all at one time in the morning, or is it like perscrpition meds where they can make you nauseas or anything like that. I am not sure if natrual supplements can have side affects or interactions so i want to know before i take them.
Answer: all are food sources and taking a vitamin with food sources is preferable.
Cranberry and cinnamon can be irritating to the stomach in large quatities though so make sure you take your stuff with a meal, as in real food.
Question: can taking a daily vitamin help clear up my face? i have mild acne that is getting better but i was wondering if taking a daily vitamin would improve my skin even more.
Answer: It could definitely help, i would suggest the fish oils. Those are good for skin, nails, and hair.
xoxo
Question: is it really that important to take a one-daily vitamin? eh? like will it really benefit my health? what are the short and long term noticeable effects that i will see from continued use of a once daily vitamin?
Answer: Probably not much, as long as you are healthy otherwise. It's a quick, easy, inexpensive adjunct to a healthy lifestyle. If you eat reasonably well, get a decent amount of exercise, and get out in the sun for a minimal amount of time once in a while, you may not need anything that the vitamin provides. Taking a multivitamin will probably not save you from speeding trains, make you super-resistant to disease, or keep you from developing cancer or any other long-term disease. Do I still take one? Yes, I do. And I recommend them.
I think they're really important for children, because during development you just don't want to take chances. If you are a woman of childbearing age and you have any intention of becoming pregnant, it's a good idea to take a supplement of folic acid. Given that, it's just as easy to take it in the multivitamin form and get everything else at the same time. If you're a vegan or you have other dietary restrictions, you may need to take certain nutrients as supplements because they will not be in your regular diet. But those are kind of specialized cases.
I tend to encourage people to think of them as insurance policies. You MAY never need the supplemental backup, but if you ever do it's nice to have it.
