Answer: they like your bad cholesterol to be lower and lower so eat wild fish not farm raised fish take flax oil capsules and salmon oil capsules and get lots of exercise eat as much organic food as possible. drink lots of water and lose weight.
Question: How are the concentrations of LDL and HDL associated with the risk of heart disease? I other words how are levels of hdl and ldl likded to heart disease?
Answer: HDL is the good, LDL is the bad. Try web.md theres plenty of info there.
HDL is raise by exercise, omega oil.
LDL is from saturated animal fat.
You also need to know your triglycerides, these are fats that come from carbohydrates.
Question: What do extremely high levels of HDL in the blood of obese individuals mean? HDL is the "good cholesterol", what does it mean when there are very high levels of it in the bloodstream of obese individuals.
Thanks
Answer: There is an easy way to remember which cholesterol is the good one. As in TV, HD is a good thing. You want the HDL to be high. If in doubt, ask a doctor or pharmacist.
Question: How does a vegetarian raise their hemoglobin, hemotocrit and HDL cholesterol? I'm 26 years old and I participate in drug studies for a living and recently got rejected from one because my hemoglobin and hemotocrit were too low. My HDL cholesterol was too low as well. I'm thinking this is because I'm a recent vegetarian... its been about 5 months since I've stopped eating animal flesh. Otherwise, I'm healthy. I don't smoke and my BMI is a low 19.
Since getting rejected, I've started taking a multivitamin with iron, started drinking one glass of red wine each night (to help increase my HDL) and started exercising every day as well. Any thoughts on what else I could be doing that I'm not already? I want to screen for another study in a week or so.
Answer: Your HDL is effected by your intake of saturated vs. unsaturated fats and your exercise level. Your hemoglobin is directly related to your intake of iron. Your hematocrit should not be low unless you've experienced blood loss, or your diet is very insufficient of protein and iron.
It's very important that you get adequate protein despite being a vegetarian. You might try soy products or even protein supplement shakes. Green leafy veggies (spinach is great and yummy fresh or cooked!) have lots of iron. For your HDL, make sure you are getting enough physical exercise. Also make sure the majority of the fat you are taking in is unsaturated. The red wine is an acceptable supplement, but won't do much on it's own.
Hope this helps! Best wishes!
Question: How can I lower my ldl and raise my hdl? I have hereditary high cholesterol, I am not overweight, I workout regularly, and I don't consome alot of cholesterol foods.
Ldl is bad cholesterol that builds up in your arteries and hdl is good cholesterol.
Please do not suggest surgery or any medication.
Answer: Surgery is not the treatment for high cholesterol. Medication is one treatment. Cholesterol comes from heredity and lifestyle. One you can do something about, the other you cannot. If you always eat low saturated fat foods and exercise regularly, you have conquered the lifestyle portion of the equation. There is nothing you can do about your heredity. If the lifestyle changes have not lowered your numbers adequately, you must resort to medication. The alternative is heart and circulatory disease, causing heart attack and stroke. Please re-evaluate your stance on the statins that can lower your numbers to an acceptable level.

Question: What causes high Trigycerides and low HDL? Every one "knows" that a high fat diet negatively effects our blood lipid profile. So should Dr Roger Blumenthal (Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, Baltimore, MD) be sacked for this misleading statement?
'The "low-fat-diet message" has also become ingrained in recent decades, and this may have led to greater consumption of sweets and carbohydrates, which would also tend to drive up triglyceride levels and decrease HDL'
Carbohydrates causing high triglycerides and low HDL. Surely not?
Answer: Carbohydrates break down into triglycerides and can lead to formation of LDL. High triglycerides will ultimately cause high LDL. This will tend to lower the HDL to LDL ratio which is the real indicator of risk rather than HDL and LDL levels individually. Most of the problem occurs via liver metabolism in the mevalonic acid biosynthesis to cholesterol. Factors such as stress and lower blood pH cause cholesterol deposition onto the artery walls. The HDL to LDL ratios, triglyceride levels and cholesterol levels are only a part of the big picture. Dietary considerations are minor unless the patient is eating extremely high amounts of saturated fats and carbohydrates. It should be noted that carbohydrates break down into acetate which in turn goes through beta oxidation and then on into the mevalonic acid biogenesis of cholesterol. So for example: lets compare margarine to butter. Butter is 60% cholesterol and margarine is 0%. If you use a small amount of butter, you are eating a small amount of cholesterol. On the other hand, if you use a very large amount of margarine, you are eating no cholesterol. However, the excess fatty acids you are eating get turned into acetate and end up as cholesterol. In effect you are eacting cholesterol when eating margarine. So, there are a lot of myths about dietary intake of fatty acids and their relationships to heart disease. The answer is to eat reasonably, exercise frequently and to do things that lower stress.
Question: Why does triacylglycerol need to be put into chylomicron, LDL or HDL to be carried around? TAG itself is soluble. Why does it need to be packaged into chylomicron, LDL or HDL for transportation? Can't we get rid of LDL, HDL, chylomicron altogether and just have TAG going from places to places?
Answer: Triacylglycerols (fats and oils) are not soluble in water, so they need to be packaged into something that will not separate out of the blood. Imagine squirting corn oil (which is a triacylglycerol) into the bloodstream. It would separate out into a separate phase in a heartbeat.
Question: How quickly can your HDL cholesteral levels change? How quickly can your HDL cholesteral levels change? Lets say you have a test today and get a result of say 50. If you decided to exercise more and eat more Omega-3s, what would you expect the change to be in 2 weeks? 2 months? 2 years?
On the flip side, lets say you have a test today and get a result of 80. Starting tomorrow, you stop exercising all together. What would you expect the change to be in 2 weeks? 2 months? 2 years?
Answer: pretty much everything in your body can change within a few weeks. your resting heart rate can change, muscle definition can change, cardio fitness can change, blood pressure can change, etc. everything changes gradually though. so after a few weeks you won't have major changes, but you'll have a foundation and within a few months you'll have great results.
Question: What happens when your HDL is too high and how do you lower it? I got a calll from my doctor telling me that my HDL cholesteral (the good kind was too high). I didn't know it could get too high. What happens and how do I lower it?
Answer: You want your HDL to be high and your LDL to be low.
Question: How common is it to have higher HDL than LDL? I just got my first cholesterol test. My total cholesterol is 150, HDL is 74, Triglycerides are 83, and LDL is 70. I'm 25 and female, average body type.
Is this common? I thought it was supposed to be the other way around.
Answer: Common? Not uncommon. Typically happens with physically fit people, as cardiovascular exercise increases HDL.
Question: Is it possible for your HDL Cholesterol to be too high? My overall Cholesterol score is 195
My HDL Cholesterol score is 101
My LDL Cholesterol score is 85.2
I know HDL is the "good" cholesterol, but when I tried to input this number into my health tracker, it denied it saying that it must be incorrect.
Is an extremely high HDL cholesterol level unhealthy?
Answer: If your total cholesterol is less than 200, and hdl is greather than 60, you have a very low heart risk. High levels of HDL isn't considered a risk as long as total cholesterol remains below 200.
Question: Is apple cider vinegar good to lower cholesterol and triglycerides and wouldn't it also lower the GOOD hdl? I have heard to use ACV to lower cholesterol. Will it help for triglcerides as well and wouldn't it lower the good stuff the HDL as well? I need my HDL to stay up.
Answer: Apple Cider vinegar has no effect on cholesterol levels, triglyceride synthesis or lipid transit. All it did in tests was increase gastric emptying rate - how fast the stomach empties into the illeum by irritating the stomach.
Really. It's salad dressing.
Question: Are there any supplements that increase your HDL or good cholesterol? My HDL is very low.
Answer: Niacin and fiber will both increase HDL while lowering LDL. Other great things for increasing HDL is physical exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, smoking cessation, and eliminating consumption of trans fats.
Question: where can i find food that rich of HDL cholesterol? also, is it ok to consume food that rich of LDL cholesterol if i also consume the rich HDL one? thanks.
sorry if the questions sound stupid. my english isn't good.
Answer: If you want to raise your HDL cholesterol, eat foods that are high in mono-or-polyunsaturated fat, like avocadoes, eggs, fish, flax seed, nuts, and olive oil.
Eating foods that are high in cholesterol won't necessarily raise your cholesterol. Your three biggest enemies when it comes to cholesterol are: (1) trans fat, (2) saturated fat, and (3) processed sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Avoid these as much as possible.
Question: HDL cholesterol is slightly low and Albumin Level is slightly high. What do i have to eat to increase my HDL? Albumin 5.3 H 3.2 - 5.0 gm/dl
SO tell me whats the natural way to solve this problem?
Doctors answer preferred... Thanks so much.
Answer: Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)
Take a look into Fish Oil and Flax Seed Oil.
I personally will opt for fish oil.
Doctors answers? I am not sure, but you do know doctors will usually get kick backs by medical companies. Meaning they get various stuff by medical companies that make certain drugs if a doctor writes it out often enough. (read up about it)
If you do not believe the fish oil helping H.D.L., google how people that use oral steroids to combat that issue.
