Lack
Question: What could lack of enthusiasm in a toddler mean? Lack of enthusiasm is usually attributed to teens or old people but what could cause a young child aged 4 to not want to run around and play with the others,to think, what's the point?! And to not want to take part in things, and to not like or trust people in general. Their parents are caring so they aren't being physically abused.
Answer: first, 4 isnt really a 'toddler' anymore, its a little kid. they should be social and want to play with other kids. shyness is one cause. but if they are saying 'whats the point' or seem to be thinking that, thats another matter, and one of concern. if they dont trust people in general, then im sorry but the parents are to blame. they are either FAR too overprotective of the child to the extent the child feels he or she cannot make a move without their permission, or they have taught the child that anyone apart from themselves is 'bad' and therefore should be ignored. both are terrible to do to a child. it may not be physical abuse, but its mental abuse, even if they dont realise what they are doing. the child may not feel loved by the parents, again, just cos you dont 'beat' ur kids doesnt mean u are a good parent.
Question: How can a lack of sleep cause weight gain? How can it lead to higher risk of dying from heart attack? I read the newspaper saying that a lack of sleep can cause one to become overweight. How so?
How can dying from heart problems occur?
Answer: Simply put, lack of sleep leads to increase stress and inability to regenerate, resulting in releasing cortisol, a stress hormone, that makes you gain weight. Increased stress leads to higher risk of heart problems.
Question: What is a country that has suffered due to lack of human rights? Wellllll.... I need to write about when lack of human rights can cause a country to have economic disadvantage, poverty, bad health and sanitation, or political stability.
i looked at north korea and a few others... but although they have lack of human rights, and have had famines which have killed hundreds of thousands of people etc... they aren't exactly DIRECTLY related to lack of human rights.
Answer: Friendly stranger: Africa is not a country. It's a continent composing 47 countries.
Sudan is a prime example of the denial of human rights.
Question: How much does lack of sleep really affect your weightloss? What can be the affects of it?
Beside the fact that it increases your appetitie, what else can lack of sleep do to weight loss?
Answer: Here's a pertinent article that I wrote a year or so ago; it's short and sweet!
The Strong Connection Between Your Snooze Time
and Your Waistline
True Story: Many years ago in my college days, I went home for the holiday break. I didn’t really watch what I was eating, nor did I exercise. I still drank alcohol a few nights a week as well. After my 4 weeks of fun I was back at the university, and all of a sudden my 3 roommates are begging me to tell them how I lost weight. Lost weight?? I did?? To my surprise, I realized I did look slimmer than before and my clothes were a bit loose. I had no idea how that had happened. Then it hit me: the only real change I’d made (although unwittingly) was getting a full 8-9 hours of zzz’s a night at fairly constant times, when previously I most certainly had not been. (Let me put it this way; a nickname I had in college was “Vampire” because I had such a ridiculously erratic sleep schedule.) So as you may guess, I am now a firm believer in how important sleep is in regards to maintaining a healthy weight, as well as in regards to weight loss.
A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association confirms that inadequate sleep promotes overeating and weight gain. As more studies are being done, more information is gathered to support and explain this occurrence.
Sleep deprivation often has a staggering effect on hormones related to appetite and satiety. Levels of leptin, a hormone that suppresses the appetite, are reduced, while the levels of ghrelin, the appetite-stimulant hormone, are elevated. Therefore, these two hormones can not accurately signal calorie need. A recent study done at the University of Chicago restricted a group’s sleep time for a couple days. Not only did their appetites increase substantially in proportion to the lack of sleep, but their desire for high-carbohydrate, high-density foods increased by a whopping 45%.
Sleep loss appears to also have a significant effect on the hypothalamic pituitary system and the autonomic nervous system. These changes then affect glucose metabolism and insulin resistance, which are both often a definitive step in the direction of type II diabetes and obesity. Furthermore, cutting short your zzz’s alters your growth hormone secretion pattern, reduces your thyroid-stimulating hormone levels, increases evening cortisol levels, increases sympathetic activity, and decreases parasympathetic activity, all of which negatively affect proper glucose metabolism.
If getting enough sleep isn’t nearly as easy as it sounds on paper, or if you think you may have a sleep disorder, make an appointment with your physician so that you can get on the right path to getting a great snooze.
Question: How does sleep deprivation cause a lack of energy? In terms of physiology and biochemistry, why does a lack of sleep cause a lack of energy?
Yes the body and brain need time to rest and recuperate, but how exactly is this related to energy?
Answer: Sleep Apnea - Symptoms And Causes - The Breathing That Stops In The Night Affecting over 18 million American, sleep apnea is a rather serious sleep disorder which causes your breathing to be continuously interrupted throughout the nighttime of sleep.
Your breathing may be interrupted for as little as 10 seconds and up to a minute or longer. Goodness! With sleep apnea, it is no wonder that you wake up feeling as if you've been beat to within an inch of your life.
In order to get breathing again after a period of apnea, your brain kicks in to wake you up causing you to start breathing again. This cycle can repeat itself hundreds of time during any given period of sleep.
Stealing your sleep and your oxygen, when sleep apnea is left untreated it can worsen and can lead to other health conditions such as cardiovascular disease. It can become so severe that it literally threatens your life.
Now that should make you take of running to visit your healthcare provider!
Of course, the most clear cut sign of sleep apnea is a constant feeling of grogginess during the daytime. If you suffer with sleep apnea, you may find yourself falling asleep frequently during the daytime hours. It makes perfect sense because if you have sleep apnea you never fall into the deepest and most restorative sleep leaving you feeling exhausted.
Other symptoms found in sleep apnea include awakening during sleep gasping or choking, profuse sweating, unusually loud snoring and even startling yourself awake frequently as you try to catch your breath.
You may also find that you have a tough time concentrating or focusing on the day's activities. Sleep apnea can cause you to wake in the morning with a dry mouth, a sore throat, and even a pounding headache. Sleep apnea can also lead you to wild mood swings, depression and even weight gain.
With sleep apnea the muscles located in the back of the throat relax and obstruct the airway cutting off your breath. Because the muscles in the back of the throat also support the uvula, the tonsils and the tongue itself any of these can also become an obstructive source. This is the most common type of apnea and is called obstructed sleep apnea.
Less common, is central sleep apnea in which there is no actual mechanical obstruction but rather the brain is incapable of sending the necessary instructions to the appropriate muscles to work to breath.
A combination of these two types of apnea is known as Mixed Apnea.
There are many factors that are thought to cause your sleep apnea. Let's face it men, if you are male and over the age of 40, then you are at the highest risk. Sorry! Ladies, at least you get a little break on this high risk. Obesity, smoking, sedative use, alcohol use, enlarged tonsils, adenoids or even mechanical problems with the tongue, nasal septum, or vocal cords can all cause you to develop sleep apnea.
The causes of sleep apnea and the symptoms that you develop are varied and life-style altering. Deep depression and isolation can result. But you can make a decision to do something differently and you can learn to actively live with your diagnosis of narcolepsy.

Question: What are longterm negative effects of a lack of social life? I really haven't had many friends in the past 4+ years due to several uncontrollable circumstances and some bad luck. I've found that people I used to consider very close are almost strangers now. Also the past four years have flown by due to the lack of positive memories from that time period. What are some negative effects that result from my lack of a social life?
Answer: While it is all right to be alone a considerable amount of the time, if we don't go out and socialize sometimes (weekends, or at least once a month), we become practically hermits. This can lead to some mental disorders such as: Depression, Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder (when we have no choice but to be around people), etc.
Sometimes we must just get up and go. If we have no one to go with us, we still need to get out and do things where people are.
I hope that you are working, in school, or doing something where you interact with other people. When we don't, for any length of time, we can deprive ourselves of friendships, love, and what might be termed by some as 'a life'.
Question: What is the link between lack of understanding about healthy eating and obesity? I am doing a research project about the link between lack of understanding about the food we eat and obesity, however i cannot find any relevant articles for my literature search to back up my primary research. Does anyone know where i can find any articles? Thank you.
Answer: Best book out there is Good Calories Bad Calories by award winning science ∆ournalist Gary Taubes. Book changed my life - Taubes cites TONS of excellent sources that you can look up. see here: http://www.amazon.com/Good-Calories-Bad-Gary-Taubes/dp/1400040787
I would also suggest: Rajen S. Anand, P. Peter Basiotis article: Is total fat consumption really decreasing? from Family Economics and Nutrition Review (Summer, 1998). This paper - from the USDA itself - shows that we have actually been eating LESS dietary fat since the obesity epidemic. All the extra calories we have been eating is from sugar and carbohydrate.
Question: With a lack of trust, how does one start over in a new relationship? With a lack of trust from past bad relationships with friends, family, romantic relationships, etc. How does one start over in a new relationship? I had friends, a lot of family around, even a romantic relationship at one point, but now I don't have any of them due to a lack of trust. How do I move forward from that and start fresh in new relationships?
Answer: Slowly, without any preconceived expectations and an open mind. Allow yourself to form new opinions, and be open to new experiences. Most of all, in time, allow yourself to trust again. Think of this as a new start, and you will do things differently. You will also have enough respect for yourself where you will not allow people to take advantage of you and be able to tell the difference. You need to have faith enough in yourself that you can do this!
Question: Is the lack of a magnetic field around Venus linked to its slow rotation? It seems to me that the tidal influence of the Sun on the core of Venus would be stronger than its effect here, and that to some extent this would compensate for the lack of a large satellite. Nevertheless, Venus lacks a strong magnetic field. Is this because it rotates very slowly, or is there some other reason?
Answer: Venus and Earth have similar radii and estimated bulk compositions, and both have an iron core that is at least partially liquid. However, despite these similarities, Venus lacks an appreciable dipolar magnetic field. Here I examine the hypothesis that this absence is due to Venus's also lacking plate tectonics for the past 0.5 b.y. The generation of a global magnetic field requires core convection, which in turn requires extraction of heat from the core into the overlying mantle. Plate tectonics cools Earth's mantle; on the basis of elastic thickness estimates and convection models, it is argued here that the mantle temperature on Venus is currently increasing. This heating will reduce the heat flux out of the core to zero over ˜1 b.y., halting core convection and magnetic field generation. If plate tectonics was operating on Venus prior to ca. 0.5 Ga, a magnetic field may also have existed. On Earth, the geodynamo may be a consequence of plate tectonics; this connection between near-surface processes and core magnetism may also be relevant to the generation of magnetic fields on Mars, Mercury, and Ganymede.
Question: How do I compensate for the lack of credits on my resume, being a beginning actor at age 27? I am 27 and am just starting my acting career. I only have 2 credits on my resume and no professional training. The reason for this is I have listened to my parents for too long on career choice, which of course never made me happy. I am wondering now how to make up for my lack of credits at this point in time. Any suggestions?
Should mention I am about to move to New York City as well.
Answer: Education and exposure!
Just make sure your name's out there with agencies and on the net... advertise yourself! go to as many casting calls as you can, and don't forget: in this case, no part is too small! A bit part can lead to a bigger one, either because you've got "the look," the right attitude, or just plain talent. Remember that many actors have gotten their start modeling, as well!
A good bet, as well, would be to start getting involved in community theatre... you never know when you maight catch a talent agent's eye!
Question: What does it mean to lack social skills? My crushes mom told my mom that she thinks my crushes social skills are lacking.
My crush has friends. He goes out with friends on most weekends.
But if he has friends and is going out with them, I don't understand why his mom would think that his social skills are lacking.
What do you think it means to lack in social skills?
Answer: his mom probably thinks that while he does have friends, he doesn't really talk to other people outside his group of friends, and doesn't communicate well with other people.
hope this helps!(:
Question: How did humans end up having a lack of hair on their bodies unlike all other mammals? Other animals like monkeys, human ancestors, chimps, and all other mammals have long hair and fur on their bodies.
However, humans have no lack much body hair. Humans only have tiny bits of hair that are not very visible.
Answer: Because we just might have started out as aquatic apes, inland & close to the equator...
Question: What characteristics of life can an organism lack and still be considered alive? What characteristics of life can an organism lack and still be considered alive?
Please be as descriptive as you can.
Answer: A typical living organism needs to take in nutrients, grow/develop, respond to its environment, and be capable of reproducing in order to be considered alive.
A specific instance of an organism can lack reproductive ability, so long as the species reproduces. An individual can go without food for a while, although this will slowly kill the individual. Humans have been kept alive in comas for years. And the growth of single cells is mostly limited to their ability to reproduce.
So I'd say the absolutely necessary characteristics are eating and either growing or reproducing.
Question: Do lack of grease on the processor makes the fans speed up and noisy? I have checked that the computers processor do have a lack in grease content. And the fan above may be called as heat-sank speeds up some times and makes a lot of noise ...
What should I do?
Answer: grease? that new! all i know is that a thermal solution is applied atop the CPU and no grease whatsoever. anyway, the noisy fan has nothing to do with the processor. if its too noisy for you, you can change that for something better. lots of good CPU cooler out there. There are even liquid cooling solutions if you like.
Question: Can lack of sleep cause a person to pass out from overexertion? If someone were to stay up all night or get very little sleep and then do a lot a work the next day, is it possible for the lack of sleep to cause them to faint?
Answer: Definately, your body would get soo tire, people can just collapse. Be careful, if this is what you are doing to yourself.
Question: Would lack of a male model impact my ability to relate to the opposite sex? According to a friend I am giggly immature and naive around guys because I don't know how to relate to them. I want to have a relationship but I always seem to scare them off or get rejected. It sucks! I wonder if my lack of male model is a part of it seeing as I never met my father because I do not know how to relate to them.
Answer: You need new friends. That's not cool.
It was always just my mom and me. She hasn't dated since she found out she was pregnant with me and im 19. I have had better relationships than most of my peers who had both parents, gay parents (double the male roll models), divorced parents, and parents who dated. I had real, devoted love from my mom and she has shown me how to treat others in friendships. In my college psychology class they tried to say that children raised by their mother alone are horrible at relationship and so on. They all kinda got quiet after I told my story. Boys were foreign to me too for a very long time but it also took a bit of searching to find a mature guy who treats girls right. I think it's better for you to have a clean slate for what you're looking for in a man because they say girls many men like their father and i've watched girls find abusive men over and over again because their father was abusive towards their mother.
Maturity is a state of mind and there's provably a few guys out there that are your level.
By the way, I'm a bit giggly myself =] It doesn't always have to affect a relationship.
Question: How can a lack of good night's sleep increase the risk of heart disease and weight gain? We all know that saturated fatty, high caloric foods lead to gaining weight and heart problems. But I just don't get how a lack of sleep leads to cardio(heart) risks.
I recently heard the news that a lack of sleep can be bad for one's heart. What does it have to do with that? And how does it lead to gaining weight?
Answer: will this still a subject of debate, but some studies shows less sleeping than needed for the body, put the body on a stressful condition, with the increase of body stress hormones, (corticosteroid, adrenaline and nor-adrenaline, and others,) which somehow increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, also it affects the appetite regulating hormones ,leptin, and may increase appetie, so after all its hormonal issue...
