Question: How many dried meals did Julie and her friends start out with? Last summer Julie and friends went camping. On the first night they left their food on the ground. A bear came along and ripped up one-third of their total number of dried meals. On the next day they ate four of the meals. Then a bear came and ripped apart another one third of their meals. On their third day, they ate four more meals and that night one-half of their remaining dried meals were ripped apart. They decide to go home after eating four remaining meals.
Answer: No. of dried meals Julie and friends started with—x:
Meals left after the 1st day:
= x - 1/3x
= 2/3x
Meals left after the 2nd day:
= 2/3x - 4 - 1/3(2/3x - 4)
= 2/3x - 4 - 2/9x + 4/3
= 6/9x - 12/3 - 2/9x + 4/3
= 4/9x - 8/3
Meals after the 3rd day:
= 4/9x - 8/3 - 4 - 1/2(4/9x - 8/3 - 4)
= 4/9x - 8/3 - 12/3 - 1/2(4/9x - 8/3 - 12/3)
= 4/9x - 20/3 - 1/2(4/9x - 20/3)
= 4/9x - 20/3 - 2/9x + 10/3
= 2/9x - 10/3
2/9x - 10/3 = 4
2x - 30 = 36
2x = 66
x = 33
Answer: 33 dried meals was what they started out with.
Question: What sort of meals would be good for having six small meals a day? I'm planning to move to this way of eating, or more uniquely in my case a 4 small meal and 1 big meal (dinner with family, inevitably big) day.

I figured that 5-6 small healthy meals every day (24-hrs) instead of the typical 2-3 big meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) would be better. So I am wondering what I should be eating. Remember, small meals only since I am going for a 5-6 meals per day plan here. Any recommendations?
Answer: I've never heard anyone wanting to gain weight but ok. I'll tell you what sticks to my bones, meat, potatoes, and bread.
Question: Why is eating smaller meals more frequently, a better way of losing weight rather than three big meals a day? I mean i know that eating smaller, more frequent meals keeps the metabolism running, but wont it still be the same if you eat three big meals a day? Because inbetween each of the three meals, your body is digesting the food still.
Answer: that is true ........it keeps your metablism steady

Question: How many solid meals should my 6 month old daughter have per day? She started solids at five months.
I started with one feed of rice cereal per day, and have now introduced a second meal of apple and rice cereal.
Should she be having three solid meals yet?
She has about four bottles of formula per day.
Answer: I started our son on one meal a day at 4 months, at 5 months he had 2 meals a day, then at 6 months he was having 3 meals a day...now at 11 months old he's having 3 meals a day and 2 small snacks a day. I asked our pedi about it and her words were..."you're the mom...you'll know when he's ready for another meal or not. Just trust yourself and go with the flow." Best of luck.
Question: How do you plan your meals for the week? Do you plan according to sales? Are there any free meal planning websites with grocery lists? I need meal ideas and I want to start planning meals better so I save $.
Answer: I do take advantage of some sales, but I make all my meals from scratch, which saves a lot of money! Produce and other whole foods like dry beans and pasta are sooooo cheap.
Here are some of my favorite low cost meals. You can make a BUNCH and have leftovers for a few days, or freeze portions for later.
~Any dry beans (lentils, black beans, pintos) with water, onion, bell pepper, garlic, spices and olive oil cook up great in a few hours. Just set and forget really! Serve with rice and any meat you like.
~Baked macaroni and cheese. I like to add fresh herbs like parsley and sage, lemon juice and a bit of bacon. You can also throw in any veggies you like. Broccoli is great, as are fresh cold tomatoes served on each portion.
~Taco salad. I buy lean ground beef or turkey, and sometimes chicken breast. Toss cooked meat with baby spinach or chopped romaine, avocado, shredded cheese, a can of drained rinsed beans, and the dressing (I use salsa and lowfat plain yogurt mixed together). It's SO good!
~Stir-fry. Choose any meat you like and toss with a teriyaki marinade, let sit a while. Cook it up, then set aside while you do veggies. Either buy a bag of frozen Asian veggies or get some fresh (I like tomatoes, onions, carrots, edamame, broccoli and red bell peppers), then chop and cook on high heat with a bit of vegetable and sesame oil. You can toss in a few eggs at the end, and keep drizzling the whole thing with teriyaki or soy sauce. Not TOO much, since they are salty. A bit of fresh garlic and ginger thrown in to cook with the veggies tastes great! Serve with hot rice or make it fried rice by adding in cold cooked rice while the veggies are cooking.
~Other good ones: enchiladas, lasagna, chili, soups/stews, crockpot roasts. I just boiled and roasted a giant pork roast today to make carnitas. ;)
Question: What is the most time allowed between meals before it becomes unhealthy? I want to try out something. I wanna eat only when i feel hungry and that can be quite some time after the first meal i had, like 8 hours or more. So i want to know if eating the way i intend to which is like only when i'm hungry which can be quite long or quite short between meals is actually healthy? Any sort of information will be appreciated thanks. oh and what if i only eat like two meals or even 1 meal a day depending on my hunger? Is that bad? Thanks.
Answer: yeah eating 1-2 meals a day is bad, be sure your drinking lots of water because sometimes when your stomach "craves" food, your actually just thirsty!
Question: What meals are cheap and easy to make and fairly healthy? I have just moved into my own flat, i'm used to my mother making all my meals! Seem to be spemding a small fortune on take aways and microwave dinners which are obviously not very healthy! Help!
Answer: beans and toast
baked potato, tuna salad
pasta , chicken or tuna and a tomato sauce
spag bol
macaroni cheese
omlette - mushrooms, cheese or whatever filling
cauliflower and cheese sauce
That's your meals for the week sorted out!!
Question: Is it better to have small meals more frequently than to have large meals less frequently? Some people thing that having frequent meals impede the repairing process of the body. Others feel that large meals take long time to digest causing bloatedness and drowsiness.
Answer: It's better to graze on small meals throughout the day than to have a big 3 meal a day plan. I only eat when I'm hungry. I eat slowly and stop when I feel satisfied. I've never heard of frequent meals impeding the repairing process of the body! Nutrients are vital to the body and eating in small quantities throughout the day does not affect that process.
Question: Meals?????? I have to cook a meal for my family and I was wondering if anyone had any original idea's /recipes? nothing too complicated. thanks in advance
Answer: SPINACH MILANESE WITH FRIED EGGS
2 1/2 lbs fresh spinach
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
6 eggs
1/2 cup butter, melted
salt and pepper, to taste.
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Bring 1/4 cup of water to a rapid boil in a large skillet.
Wash spinach well in cold running water. Remove any heavy stalks.
When water is boiling, add spinach and cook for 7 minutes. Drain well. Wring dry in paper towels or squeeze dry with cheesecloth. Set aside.
Dry the skillet which was used to cook spinach. In the same skillet, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Sauté spinach in butter for several minutes over medium high heat (do not let butter begin to brown!).
Grease an ovenproof casserole or baking dish with 1 tablespoon butter. Transfer spinach to baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with Parmesan cheese. Melt remaining butter and pour over spinach. Bake in oven at 375F. When cheese has thoroughly melted, remove from oven.
Meanwhile, sauté the eggs. Serve with the spinach on a heated serving dish.
Serves 3, 2 eggs for each serving.
