Overeating
Question: overeating? ok, so this past year i gained a lot of weight from overeating and basically just eating whatever even if i wasn't hungry. So could i lose this excess weight if i just ate when i was hungry and not exceedingly eat and binge??
Answer: I believe that it depends on the types of foods you're eating. Years ago, I lived on fat-free foods like pasta and bread. I even ate licorice thinking "it's fat-free". I was always starving!!!! Over the years (I'm 39) I've learned to stick with whole foods and I've been able to maintain a healthy weight.(5'4 120). I've learned to stay far away from sugary "low-fat" foods and learn as much as I can about healthy, nutritious foods.
I eat lean protein, vegetables, some fruit, and try to eat at least 20 grams of fiber a day( I like Fiber One) and less fat. I've recently stopped eating cheese, and I have already noticed that I've been losing weight.
When I used to live on foods like pasta, bread, and low fat foods, I was actually gaining weight by the minute simply because I was ALWAYS hungry and therefore obsessed with food. Now I limit my carb intake to just WHOLESOME carbs (no white, enriched, stripped garbage) and my weight has stabilized. Junk carbs cause CONSTANT hunger...avoid them at all costs!!! Low carb gets a bad rap, but the most important message of it is to stop eating REFINED carbs. This is the reason for the obesity problem right now....plain and simple.
The reason you are hungry all the time is because the refined, simple carbs turn immediately to sugar by your body and create and up and down effect on your blood sugar level. I also believe that if you are not supplying your body with the proper nutrients, it will crave MORE food in an effort to try to get what it needs....resulting in overeating. Your body requires certain nutrients and will crave food in order to somehow get them.
Question: How can I treat my compulsive overeating at home without going to see a therapist? I think I have Compulsive Overeating Disorder (based on an evaluation of my symptoms with the DSM-IV criteria) but I will not go see a therapist. How do I take care of this on my own?
Answer: you want to change go into therapy or just do as your doing now and stay the same or wait until its so bad it will take years to sort out
Question: How can I prevent my cat from overeating? We feed both my cats Fancy Feast twice a day (about a tablespoon each time) and they have dry food out all the time. They are indoor cats so they don't get much exercise. My kitten is 10 months old and I am afraid she is becoming overweight. My older cat who is 5 years old is losing weight, which the vet says could be worms or a viral thing, shes being treated for those in case thats what it is, but most likely its due to stress.
Any suggestions on how I can prevent my kitten from overeating, without denying my other cat food?
Answer: First, switch to indoor cat formula.
That is specially made for cats without much exercise.
Kittens should get kitten chow for optimum nutrition.
Try feeding them in separate rooms. Once they realize that "their" food is in one room they should retreat to separate corners to eat.
That way you can control the nutrition of both your cats.
Question: What can you do to stop yourself from emotional overeating? Emotional overeating is very unhealthy, but also very hard to stop doing. Can someone please provide some healthy tips on how to get rid of this habit?
Answer: Hi, there!
Here are some suggestions regarding emotional eating and how to stop.
There is a free e-course that might help you. It's called:
“How to Cure Emotional Eating” .
At the bottom of this reply, I have posted a link to the free Internet resource where you can get it.
In addition, I strongly advise you to eliminate all processed (refined) carbohydrates (sugar, chocolate, bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, cereal, etc.) from your diet.
Refined carbohydrates can trigger food cravings and mood swings. This may trap you in a cycle of emotional eating and food addiction.
I also suggest that you eat six meals per day (rather than three larger ones) and each meal must contain at least 15 grams ( 20 grams for a male) of quality protein. You won't be eating more food. Simply spread the same amount of food between six smaller meals.
Six feedings per day that include quality PROTEIN will help to boost your metabolism and CURB CRAVINGS.
I hope this helps you.
Please be kind to yourself and look after your health.
All my best wishes.
Question: How do I fix my brain to stop myself from overeating? I have a little bit of an overeating problem... I'll go for four bowls of cereal instead of just one, 4 cookies instead of just two, a full cup of peanuts instead of 1/4, or 5 granola bars. I don't want to gain any more weight and I really need help. I want to stop turning to food. Are there any tips or websites or advice that you have for me? I don't want to get fat, but my issue isn't bad enough to get medical help or anything. Thanks.
Answer: You could try drinking a glass of water or two before eating anything. The water takes up space, but has no calories, so you'll get a fuller feeling, therefore, you'll eat less.
Question: How to deal with overeating AFTER i do it? I overeat a lot to the point where i feel like throwing up.. However, I do not force myself to throw up. I'm just curious as to how to deal with my stomache pains... I've tried laxatives, but I heard that taking too much can cause me to retain water... I don't know what to do...
Overeating has also caused me to be constipated very often.
Any suggestions on how to help my stomache feel better after overeating?
Answer: use the two finger method. works everytime.
Question: What can I do to keep myself from overeating? I tend to overeat especially when I'm bored. I just had like two bowls of ice cream and I feel really guilty. Sometimes I can keep myself from overeating just by drinking water instead but it doesn't always work.
I'm not overweight.
Answer: When you're bored, try to do something fun, like go play sports or find something to do.
Question: how to avoid the toxic influence when it comes to overeating? I have noticed that my cousin never actually wants to help me when it comes to overeating, event though she knows that I lose control when it comes to food. I have noticed her jealousy in that I am a compulsive overeater who happens to be skinny, at least skinnier than her. Everytime we start eating together, she would continuously put food into my bowl/plate. I am very angry, because she knows my problem and is doing things to exacerbate the problem, as if she wants to me to gain more weight through overeating. What should I do?
Answer: Don't go out to eat with her.
Question: What are some common reasons why people have problems with overeating and weight gain? I have been trying to motivate myself to lose weight, but have never had success. I'm convinced that I need to deal with the underlying issues that lead to my overeating, but I don't really know where to begin. I can't afford counselling, so I'm curious if there are some common reasons women overeat.
Answer: Good luck with your weight loss. Nothing motivated me to lose weight, I just made up my mind I better give it an honest try before my weight added illness to my life. I was mostly worried about becoming diabetic and my cholestorol getting out of wack. I have a goal, but I don't feel motivated. My weight loss has been gradual, mostly because of my bad eating habits for stress. I still get the urge to stuff my stress full of sweet stuff, but I really try to stick to a lifestyle diet. After a year it is getting easier to say no thank you to my brain when it offers sweets as a cure all for tough times. Ask your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist. In a hospital setting, I don't believe there is any charge for an assessment by a nutritionist. Even if you can't afford counselling, the nutritionist can point you in the right direction.
Question: Do you think overeating is a big problem contributing to belly fat? How do you control overeating by the way?

Question: What is the best appetite suppressant to overcome overeating? I can't control my appetite. I want to lose weight but I can't control overeating.
Answer: Buy some great tasting bottled water and drink 3 glasses before you start eating put your food on a small plate eat slowly chew each bite 20 times then swallow then drink 3 more glasses of water. You should be full if not increase the amount of water you drink to one more glass. Eat healthy snacks like a piece of fruit but if you are really craving something have it, just drink the water before and after. Not only will this suppress your appetite it will leave you hydrated, your skin will glow and the water will flush toxins out of your body. A pill can't do that and they are addictive.
Question: How is overeating different from binge eating? I am doing a project, and some of the subtitles include overeating and binge eating. I did binge eating already, but when i try to research overeating, it brings up the same information.

Question: How can I overcome my overeating problem? I'm the heaviest I've ever been even though I work out. I feel hungry so often. What can I do to cheat my hunger?
I've been told to try eating carrot or cucumber sticks when I feel hungry outside of regular mealtimes, but I don't want to do that because that just involves eating something else. I don't want to do that. I just want to stop overeating so my health doesn't go bad!
Please share tips and methods if you have any!
Answer: drink plain water, find another activity read, exercise, knit, do puzzles, chew sugar-free gum
Question: How do you abstain from overeating trigger foods? I am trying so hard to overcome my overeating patterns and to lose 30 pounds or so. I just have no will power when it comes to chocolate and snack-type foods. Any tips on how to cointinue to live around food without overdoing it?
Answer: Don't buy them.
If you do buy them, then buy them in individually wrapped containers, take one, then leave the room. Have a glass of water with it. If you can't buy them individually wrapped, then get place 1 serving of each in a Ziploc bag when you open the container.
The other thing (what I do)... keep a food journal. If you know you can afford the calories of a 1/2 cup of ice cream, then you won't feel guilty about eating them in moderation. The point of dieting is to learn how to incorporate your favorite foods into your daily life. If you ban something completely, then when you go "off" the diet, you risk relapsing into the old habits that had you gain the weight in the first place.
But, if you track everything you eat, and know you can afford a cup of Ghiradelli hot cocoa, then you won't feel guilty about it. Read the food labels, and exercise some self control when it comes to portion size.
Good luck!
Question: How does one feel easy after overeating? It happens at times that due to kind of social pressure (and due to my hesitation to say "no") I consume excess food when invited by some close relative. Inevitably after that I feel uneasy for quite some time. Is there any way to feel easy after overeating?
Answer: You should never overeat even if social pressure suggests you should. Your mind controls your body, not your body controlling your mind.
Question: Is overeating all day every day bad for your health if it is low cal vegan health foods? I am not speaking of weight loss because I am thin, but I stuff my stomach full of really healthy vegetable stew with moderate grain and protein intake.
I feel so so full, but I can't stop the habit, so, is overeating bad for your body if it is mainly vegetables, and why?
Answer: It will stretch out your stomach, and if you try to eat normally for a day you will be terribly hungry. That will last until your stomach is back to normal.
