Question: weight.... ? Are weight loss pills the best option for overweight people and if not what other weight loss solutions would you recommend?
Answer: No weight loss pills work.
Question: WEiGHT!!!!? i am 12 1/2 year old girl. I am 5 foot 5 inches tall. i looked up on the comp. and it said that that was just the right weight to be at. but i know just by looking in the mirror that i am lbs. overweight (big tummy and thighs). i dont get it!
Answer: Because your evaluation of your body is probably compared to what you are seeing on TV and magazines. For a very long time the medical community has been trying to get through to these industries and to the population as a whole that they are setting an unhealthy standard for women. Because your weight and appearance is in your hands, I encourage you to make healthy choices for yourself...and not let others tell you what is good for you. At 12 1/2 you are still growing and your body needs you to take in a healthy diet.

What you should do is jog for 45 mins for 5 days a week and cut back on calories (say if you were having 2,000 caloris a day cut back to 1,500 calories) Plus eating healthy you should loose about 1-2 pounds in a week and you will see results.. good luck its easy if you follow this! I believe in you :)!
Question: Is a weight lifter lifting weights converting his work into kinetic energy? Is a weight lifter lifting weights converting his work into kinetic energy?
If a hand is swinging a string with a ball attached to the end, is the string doing work on the ball?
Is the work done by a mountain climber's weight force (weight x distance he climbed along the slope)?
Is a bullet going in the negative x coordinate direction -1/2mv^2 and a bullet going in the positive x coordinate direction +1/2mv^2 ?
Answer: Not sure about the first one because it could be considered kinetic energy because the weights are moving, but potential energy makes more since
yes the string has tension(force) upon on it which keeps the ball from flying away
yes, its force times distance, there would be both in the x and y direction
i don't understand the last question but if its the same bullet they have no kinetic energy
Question: Lifting weights to build muscle and help with weight loss? Well, I'm planning on starting a diet/workout routine, and I've heard that if you lift weights and build some muscle first, you burn calories faster and more efficiently. We have an elliptical, so I'll be doing cardio on that, and I believe my mom has some of those little one arm weights hanging around somewhere. For someone who's never done this sort of exercise, what weight should I start with, how should I do my workout, for how long, and how often? I'm 15 and about 40 lbs overweight for my height, and any advice is appreciated!
Answer: Don't listen to the first girl.
It's an awesome way. Just start with 5 lbs and use them with lunges and what not too..(makes it tons harder) you will see results.
After 5lbs get too hard...go to 10 lbs weights.
5 lbs in each hand...you think it's not too much...but it's good til you get used to it.
Good Luck! Enjoy the muscles and tone :)
Question: How Can I Lose weight effectively when excercise causes weight gain? I am 35 yrs old and have gone thru premature menopuase. As a result I was using HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy - which contains steroids) for 3 1/2 years. This as well as the menopuase has caused me to gain a lot of weight. I was not aware of the steroids and the effects until I came off the drug. I have been trying to exercise to get it off but I have found that exercising causes me to gain weight. I know weight training is supposed to help but will not be able to sign up for a gym until the next couple months (i'm paying for a vehicle). I would certainly appreciate any suggestions that you might have. The weight is affecting my asthma and I need to get rid of it before other complications set in. I am not used to the weight and have been a professional athlete for at least 15 yrs of my life. People cannot belileve how big I've gotten and it's too personal to explain to them why so I just make excuses although a lot of them believe that I've eaten myself to this state.
Answer: One thing to take into consideration is that the exercise maybe actually re-building muscle tone and unfortunately muscle weighs more than fat hence the weight gain.
A work around for this maybe to take measurements using a tape rather than using scales which can be very disheartening.
As for athsma perhaps look at swimming (a lot of the worlds best swimmers are Athsmatics who took it up to relieve the symptoms) or simply walking - you want to try and keep your heartrate low in the so called "fat burning" zone, which is the place where you can still talk comfortably, but arent just out for a stroll.
Just remember that time is on your side - just done expect lightening quick results in your case - slow and steady will win the race. The benefit you have is that with your previous professional athlete status is that you should get fit quick and feel better in quicktime.
One major hint is to drink lots of water. It will flush the system and the body gets used to having it regularly and as such wont look to retain fluid.
Question: What is the maximum weight in boxing for the heavy weight division before you become a super heavy weight? I heard about super heavy weight. I am curious to know what is the minumum wight for a super weight and the maximum wight for a heavy weight. I would like a chart on each weigh the maximum and minumum for each weight division.
Answer: The super heavyweight is a classification for the amateur boxers which is equivalent to the professionals heavyweight class. This is for any fighter over 200 pounds. There was an addition of the cruiserweight to help divide the heavyweight class which takes fighters from 175-200 pounds.
Question: How much weight did you gain by the start of your second trimester? I'm on my 12th week, I've lost 15 lbs since I've gotten pregnant because I can't seem to keep anything down. I'm a little concerned because other friends starting showing by now and I'm not. Everyone who doesn't know I'm pregnant keeps complementing me on my weight loss and those who do know I'm pregnant seem concerned. Should I be concerned? When should I start gaining weight. I know that it may be awhile before I start showing because it all depends on the person (and I have a titled uterus) but should I really be gaining weight now rather than losing weight?
Answer: I'm in my 12th week as well and I've lost 10 according to my doc's visit last week...My only suggestion is to eat whenever you can. Even if you throw it up, try to eat something again until you manage to keep something down. It's completely normal for a woman who is very sick during her first trimester to lose weight rather than gain it. Most pregnancy books and docs will assure you that you will eventually catch up with the weight gain later on in pregnancy.
As for the not showing part, if this is your first child, it can be a bit before you show. I've only recently noticed that I've developed a little pooch in my lower tummy...When is your next doc appointment? Be sure and consult with him aobut your concerns. He will be able to offer you the best advice. If you're appointment is more than a week or two away, you may want to call and talk to a nurse and see what kind of advice they can give you.
Good luck to you! Hope you have a healthy and happy nine months!
Question: I am on the weight watchers diet will I start gaining weight if i get on birth control pills? I have been on weight watchers for 8 months and already lost 30 pounds. I plan to lose another 30 pounds to get to my goal weight. I am wanting to get on birth control but I am scared I will start gaining weight. Will birth control make me gain weight?
Answer: There's really no way to know, in some women it makes them gain weight and others can lose weight. It all depends on how the hormones effect your body. Don't be too worried about it though, if you are eating right and exercising it shouldn't have a negative effect on you.
Question: What weight should I start with for weight training? I'm 14 and I can't do any push-ups because my arms are too weak, so I've decided to start weight training with dumbbells. I have 7 pound ones and I bought a light resistance band. Should I get heavier weights or can I just use the ones I have?
Answer: I would use the 7 pounders, just start with a little bit if curls and work your way up

Question: How important is weight gain in a relationship? How do you cope if your partner (or you) has noticeably gained weight?
Is it possible to still be attracted to your partner when they have gained weight you're not crazy about?
Have you ever split up over weight gain?
Any thoughts on weight gain in a relationship appreciated.
Answer: I dumped a guy for calling me fat when I was at my thinnest. I', 5'7" and at that time I was 125lbs. So whenever I had my period and I'd get bloated, my belly would be "softer" than it usually is. Every month like clock work, he'd remind me how "soft" my midsection has gotten. I'd eat candy during my period and he'd tell me to lay off it because I'm fat as it is.
I dumped him after 5 months of his b.s.
I'm married now and I certainly do not weigh what I used to especially after having kids.
My husband says I'm not skinny or fat so the size I am now works for him.
He has gained a substantial amount of weight and the only thing that troubles me is his protruding belly. He looks pregnant after a meal.
Either way, we love each other and we are more than happy with the way either one looks like.
Question: What weight do you consider a healthy weight for a 19 year old female? What weight do you consider a healthy weight
for a 19 year old female at 52,53 tall ?
Answer: Being a 13 yr old female that's 5'6", I'd say around 120-ish. Give or take 5 pounds.
Question: Does weight watcher work and how do they set your goal weight? Well I am a 32 women that is 5 9" and 220 pounds. I am planning on joining the coming week and just nervous how the is going to change my life for the better. I don't know what foods to buy? How will they set my goal of weight loss? How does weight watcher works?
Answer: Like just about any other responsible diet or plan of eating, weight watchers' works will if you stick with it. I've done weight watchers twice, had success on it, and there are a few guidelines.
1) What foods to buy: Well, that is the good news about WW. There are no forbidden foods, the important thing is not eating too much and following some sound nutritional solutions. You will learn at the meetings how to figure out foods to enjoy, and the proper amounts to eat. Other guidelines (e.g. drinking enough water, adequate vegetable servings daily, the right amount of healthy oils) make sure that you will get proper nutrition.
2) Another thing that I like about the program is that it begins with more generous portions, and as you lose weight you gradually decrease your food intake. This helps to insure steady weight loss from beginning to end.
3) One thing that some people don't like about WW is that it is very intentional about limiting weight loss to approximately 1 pound a week. This is actually the healthy way to do it, but darn it, it isn't as much fun in the short term as faster weight loss. However, weight loss is more easily maintained with this sort of weight loss. That is the difficulty with any diet, when the weight is lost, and you have to start eating normally again. With the WW system, the transition into maintenance is fairly simple, as you eat the same way as during weight loss, you just are able to eat slightly more.
4) About the goal. The meetings I attended set the first goal as losing 10% of your body weight (so, for example, if you weigh 220 lbs, your first goal would be to lose 22 lbs, or get down to 198). This actually has some medical backing, as there have been many studies showing the health benefits of a 10% weight loss. After you hit the first goal, why not go for another 10%, in this case it will only be another 19 lbs! And so on until you reach your ideal weight.
5) How it works, well, this is already a long post, so I won't go too much into it. Basically, every food has a point value, based on the amount of calories, fat and fiber. It is super easy to calculate, and you just keep your food intake to a prescribed amount each day. Then you are encouraged to eat vegetables, drink more water, and exercise sensibly. All in all, it is a very simple program to implement.
As I said at the beginning, the main problem with WW is user error. I tended to follow it for a while, and then (as I've done with every other diet I've ever attempted), stopped following it, and gained the weight back. The program is nutritionally sound, and sensible, you just have to know going in that, in order to get and keep the weight off, you are making a lifelong commitment. That is true with any weight loss program. The good thing about WW is that, while can't imagine living on shakes, or drinking maple-syrup-sweetened lemonade, or buying those expensive celebrity-endorsed "eat nothing but our pre-packaged-food-and-you'll-lose-weight programs for the rest of my life, WW provides a solution that is logical and maintainable.
This has turned out to be more of a glowing endorsement than I planned when I started typing. Just to clarify, I'm in no way affiliated with WW, and I'm currently not following the WW program. I am, however, a fan, and if you are ready to do it, WW will provide you a reasonable and relatively simple road to get there.
Hope this helps. Sorry for the length!!!
Peace,
Tom
Question: What kind of weight lifting programme should I start on? I'm a beginner at working out at home. I use the weight machines at the gym and I do mostly cardio>
I have a set of dumb bells at home with adjustable weights on them. I'm looking for someone to give me some basic advice regarding sets and reps and specific weights for each set.
I know I could ask the lads in the gym, and I have before it's just I only want to know one question ya know? When i ask them anything they launch into a big thing, i just wanna know regarding dumb bells. What weight I should use and how many sets and reps.
Cheers, any help is very much obliged.
Answer: The first step to answering your question is trying to figure out what your goals are. If you want to get big and stronger, you'll need to exercise with higher weight and shoot for between 6-8 reps. If you're looking for lean muscle, try goin with higher reps and lower weight, 10-14 reps. You'll be able to figure out how much weight to use after doing your first set. Your last 2-3 reps should be difficult and you should reach failure on the last rep. Hope the advice helps and gets you on the right track.
