Colon And Prostate Cancer
Question: what is the symptoms of having a prostate cancer and colon cancer? i have been experiencing a stinging pain in my rectum and i even have a blood coming out along with my bowel,i consulted a general physician .the doctor said it could be a hemoroids,is it possible that i have a colon cancer or prostate cancer. please help me understand. it worries me very much . hope to find answers here. thank you.
Answer: Your doc is probably right. If you are seeing bright red blood it is very low in the GI system and the pain you describe is likely from a constipated stool passing. If you bowel movements are very hard and sometimes in small formed balls that is constipation. Straining at stool causes hemorrhoids and hemorrhoids can bleed. Increase the fiber in your diet or try a stool softener and it should help this problem.
Prostate problems present symptoms of having trouble with the other plumbing....peeing. When the prostate gland enlarges it blocks the urine and either frequent small amounts of urine or having trouble urinating are the symptoms. It has nothing to do with bowel movements.
Question: What tests do I need to undergo to see if I have prostate cancer or colon cancer? Is it painless? ? I am 33 years old and I'm just wondering if I should wait a few more years to undergo the tests. I know it's fatal.
Answer: matthew - You're wise, but perhaps you worry too much and have some inaccurate data. FIRST, the tests are not fatal and cancers of the prostate and colon are often cured, not routinely fatal. For prostate, wait till you reach about 45 in 12 years, and then you can request a simple annual screening blood for PSA (prostate-specific antigen). Meanwhile, during your annual exam, ask your doctor to do a simple digital rectal exam when he palpates the prostate gland via a finger inserted in the rectum to feel for any suspicious nodules in the prostate. At the same time he does that he can check for any rectal mass. For colon cancer screening, you can begin now to once-a-year get the series of 3 cards from your doc or lab on which you can smear a pea-sized sample of stool (feces) once daily for 3 days, and submit to the lab for testing for any hidden blood since colon cancer sometimes is discovered with traces of blood in the stool. The tests are painless except for an ordinary blood sampling stick or, for some guys an uncomfortable digital finger rectal example. After about 45 years of age you could request a more extensive screening colonscopy exam once every 10 years.

Question: Worried! Prostate cancer? Colon Cancer? Constipation feeling, but do not have to go.? 2 days of the month my boyfriend age 29 feels like he is constipated. It has been going on for about 8 months. Has anyone experienced this? He said there is pressure on his anus like he is constipated. Too the point he just lies there and in 1 to 2 days it is gone. He is very unconfortable, can't sit and when he stands he just shuffles back and forth like he has to go.
Answer: Sounds like perhaps an enflamed prostate.
The best idea is to get him to the doctors so they can examine it better. If it is an enlarged prostate it needs to be seen to right away just in case it is some sort of cancerous growth.
Question: I'm 37 male. What are the early signs of prostate and colon cancer? What are the main causes? ? How and what should I do to prevent both of these illnesses.
Answer: The most common early sign of prostate cancer is suddenly needing to urinate more frequently than normal (this can also be a symptom of urinary tract and other infections) particularly, stopping urination but feeling that you haven't emptied your bladder.
The commonest early sign of bowel/colon cancer is an alternation between diarrhea and constipation, other common early symptoms include abdominal pain, blood in stools and sudden weight loss.
Neither disease can be completely prevented but it's thought that an active sex/ejaculation life may reduce concentrations of carcinogens in the prostate gland.
Chances of developing bowel/colon cancer are shown to be reduced by including plenty of fibre (bran, wholegrain bread etc), fruit and vegetables in the diet, the recommended daily intake is 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day.
Question: With colon and prostate cancer being on the rise in men,how important are they in the body?
As far as what their functions are.No plans on having them removed...
Answer: Hello,
The main problem isn't where a primary cancer is found to be. The problem is metastasis. The cancer cells spread to other organs/tissues in the body. Colon cancer kills not by necessitating a bowel resection. It kills by spreading to all other organs in the GI tract. The organs of your GI tract all share a rich exchange of blood flow. That's how those organs function. It's similar w/the prostate. You don't need a prostate to live. Once prostatic ca turns metastatic, though. Bad news.
Changes in life styles, & diets not withstanding, men don't like to be physically checked for either of these cancers. The scope feels like it's 22 feet long, & I don't like someone's finger crammed up my rectum. These reasons are why many men die from these cancers.
Question: is there a relation to colon polyps and prostate cancer? My husband had colon polyps 15 years ago and is now diagnosed with prostate cancer. Could there be a relationship to that?
Answer: That is a good question because my grandfather-in-law had prostate cancer 13 years ago and has an appointment to see if he has polyps.. Never thought of that maybe it is..
I am going to ask that question tomorrow, that's when his appointment is.
Question: Why are some forms of cancer more common in young people and others more common in old people? I know cancer doesn't discriminate when it comes to age, sex, race etc...but i have heard that certain cancers strike different age groups....why is this so??? why would cancers like lymphoma, leukemia or osteosarcoma mostly affect adolescents, as opposed to cancers like prostate cancer or colon cancer which usually affect people older than 50????
Answer: Acute leukemias, brain tumors, bone cancers, retinoblastomas are much more common in children primarily because they are developing. Note, the location of all of these are organs with rapidly dividing cells. Most of these cancers are associated with inherited genetic mutations. This is not a hard rule. Older people can get ALL, lymphomas and, osteosarcoma too. It's just much more rare.
In older people, there is less active cell division. Older people usually accumulated mutations, reduced ability for cell repair and, weaker immune system. Most prostate cancers are very slow growing. In may cases, the patients will die of something else before the prostate cancer. There have been documented cases of colon cancer in the late teens and prostate cancer at age 27. Again, extremely rare.
As a whole, cancer does not discriminate. However, some ethnic groups are far more suspectible to certain cancers than others. Examples:
Ashkenazi Jews have a much higher incidence rate of breast cancer.
Certain Chinese have the highest rate of espogeheal cancer in the World.
Germ cell cancers can only occur in people with that sex organ. In other words, women cannot get prostate or testicular cancer. Men cannot get cervical, vaginal or, ovarian cancer.
Question: Can colon cancer be associated with teens?? can colon cancer-the symptoms-be associated with young teens? like if they are 14 or 13 and above? well i know someone who's fathers dad had colon cancer(died of it) and now recently her uncle got prostate cancer (not genetics etc.,).
I know someone who asked a similiar ?. She had bad pimples which goes away for a week (she uses creams) and the next two weeks or one week it comes back! All of it. or pimples associate with her allergies too.

Question: Is lung cancer the leading cancer killer in the United States? According to a recent article : Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in the United States, causing more deaths each year than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined. At the same time, people seem to view the disease differently.
"When you look at National Institutes of Health research dollars spent per diagnosis and per patient death, lung cancer is woefully below breast cancer and AIDS," he added.
"Historically, lung cancer has been stigmatized," explained Dr. Corey Langer, medical director of thoracic oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, in Philadelphia. "It's viewed as a self-inflected illness and, at least partially, it is."

Answer: Good question and a good point. Of course AIDS is the disease DE hour so of course its going to get all the money and breast cancer supporters have really hit it big in the public relations and more power to them but you are right the funding for lung cancer is inadequate compared to these 2. However, I did hear one doctor talking about this very thing, referring to the funding of breast cancer to others, and he said that a lot of new meds come from people trying to find cures for another disease and he believed that the more research in any field of cancer research the better.
Question: How can I prevent these classifications of cancer? Carcinoma: malignant tumors derived from epithelial cells. This group represent the most common cancers, including the common forms of breast, prostate, lung and colon cancer.
Lymphoma and Leukemia: malignant tumors derived from blood and bone marrow cells
Sarcoma: malignant tumors derived from connective tissue, or mesenchymal cells
Mesothelioma: tumors derived from the mesothelial cells lining the peritoneum and the pleura.
Glioma: tumors derived from brain cells
germ cell tumours: tumors derived from germ cells, normally found in the testicle and ovary
Choriocarcinoma: malignant tumors derived from the placenta

Answer: According to WHO website, there are more than 100 types of cancers; any part of the body can be affected.
In 2005, 7.6 million people died of cancer - 13% of the 58 million deaths worldwide.
More than 70% of all cancer deaths occur in low and middle income countries.
Worldwide, the 5 most common types of cancer that kill men are (in order of frequency): lung, stomach, liver, colorectal and oesophagus
Worldwide, the 5 most common types of cancer that kill women are (in the order of frequency): breast, lung, stomach, colorectal and cervical
Tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of cancer in the world.
One fifth of all cancers worldwide are caused by a chronic infection, for example human papillomavirus (HPV) causes cervical cancer and hepatitis B virus (HBV) causes liver cancer.
A third of cancers could be cured if detected early and treated adequately.
All patients in need of pain relief could be helped if current knowledge about pain control and palliative care were applied.
40% of cancer could be prevented, mainly by not using tobacco, having a healthy diet, being physically active and preventing infections that may cause cancer.

Answer: By the time you have advanced cancer, if it ever happens to you, remember all these funny little questions you asked .
Cancer hurts, so you take meds and it hurts, so you take more meds and it is so painful that you cannot think straight and you don't care what it is or where it is until the pain can go away.

Question: The suicide bomings open up new idea in medicine? Everything is for good. Osama gets credit for many new inventions. He can patent his inventions. It is a proof that constructive people find light even in destructions. Indian has to learn lot of lessons from it.
Can drugs induce cancer cells to commit suicide? That's the goal of Apo2L/ TRAIL, a protein jointly developed by Genentech (DNA ) and Amgen (AMGN ) that activates two different cell-suicide pathways. In the first clinical trial of the drug, cancer growth was halted in 26 of 37 patients assessed.
A second cell-suicide drug, Astellas Pharma's YM155, was tested in 41 patients with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. The tumors shrank in five. Side effects for both drugs were far less than found with standard chemo.
Answer: Interesting theory, never heard it before, or if I did, I did not pay much attention to it. You have any links or source to this? Thanks!
