Question: What exactely the EPA is looking for from a scooter to be imported? What does EPA want you to show if you wanna buy a scooter from Taiwan. What if you just buy an engine without the carburator and exhaust.Just plain motor, say a 279 cc in a crate? Engine block with head and piston, with the starter and fuel pump off course.
Answer: The machine has to have documentation proving it can or has passed U.S. emissions standards.for the year it was made.
Question: What is the difference between EPA Approved and EPA Registered? I saw two products, both claiming the be the first of their kind. The only distinction was one claimed to be the first EPA Approved and the other was the first EPA Registered. So, what is the distinction between the two. Does it take more time and due diligence to become approved vs registered? Can anything be registered with the EPA but not be APPROVED by them or vice versa? It seems like Natural vs Organic. If it is Organic then it is Natural but if it is Natural, it isn't necessarily organic.
Answer: It generally works like this. EPA approved is something the manufacturer says if the product meets EPA Guidelines. EPA has not reviewed the product or ingredients but set guidelines for all products in that category. Registered means that the specific product information has been given to USEPA and they have given the go ahead.
Take an example. If a paint did not contain lead, you could claim EPA approved. Based on this, all food is EPA approved for lead. It just means you didn't put lead in it. Now if you have a paint that prevents fungal growth, the biocide used will by EPA registered for use in that product. Approved usually indicates - does not contain, registered - does contain, but EPA knows about it.
Question: What EPA employee held up a $6 million grant to clean up the Stringfellow site for political reasons? What EPA employee held up a $6 million grant to clean up the Stringfellow site for political reasons?
Answer: Rita Lavelle and Anne McGill Burford.
Question: Can the EPA take pictures of a complex that is a trade secret? Here's the (fake, for school) scnario:
A chemical comopany operates a research complex, and the company considers it a trade secret. So, they deny a request by the EPA to inspect the site.
The EPA then hire a COMMERCIAL photographer to take detailed photos of the complex.
Do you know of any cases that deal with this situation?
They were arial photographs; and it was private property, the photographs were taken of a privately owned and operated research facility.
Answer: There have been cases where interest groups have done this. USEPA does not have to do this. They just go get a Federal Judge to give them a court order and they bring the law with them. You do not turn the EPA away in this manner. The same is true for OSHA. EPA will work with companies and they have systems in place to cover trade secrets, but there is everything in the law to back them up, not a company. EPA has the right to inspect at any time.
Question: What are effects of trihalomethanes in EPA rated excess in the water on humans in Blackwell Oklahoma? For 4 years now, the city council of Blackwell, OK have sent out flyers saying that the water has levels of trihalomethanes in excess of EPA standards and that the community sholudn't worry about it. But the fish and turtles in private ponds are dying and the dogs and cats will not drink the water sometimes.
What's it doing to us and why won't the city do anything about it?
Answer: I would like to know as well. I live in Moore, OK and I just received the flyer listing the contaminates in our water. It had VOC's including Benzene in there which is a carcinogen. I also saw the trihalomethanes as well. I'm not sure what they do. Sounds to me like Oklahoma needs to get on the ball. I don't think I will be drinking the tap water anytime soon!
Ok -- after posting this, I looked up trihalomethanes and this is what I found. This comes from a New York site but I think it had some interesting info. I hope this helps - it didn't give me fuzzy feelings!
Trihalomethanes
MHEL
Trihalomethanes (THM's) are members of a group of organic chemicals that contain a single carbon atom, one hydrogen atom, and three atoms of either chlorine, bromine, or iodine, or a combination of their atoms. Of the many possible trihalomethanes, there are four that are prevalent in water supplies. They are: chloroform, bromodichloromethane, dibromochloromethane, and bromoform. The total trihalomethane (TTHM) concentration is the sum of the concentrations of these four regulated THM's.
Chloroform
Bromo-
dichloromethane
Bromoform
Dibromo-
chloromethane
Trihalomethanes can be formed by the reaction of free chlorine with naturally occurring organic matter (precursors) in raw water. Factors that influence THM formation include the amount of precursors present, pH, temperature and treatment processes used.
Chloroform, which is generally, the THM found in the highest concentration, has been determined to be a carcinogen (cancer causing agent) in laboratory mice and rats. Therefore, chloroform is a potential human carcinogen although human studies to date have been inconclusive. Chloroform is known to cause liver damage following chronic exposure to high levels. The chemical similarities of the THM's suggest the possibility they all may be hazardous to health.
The potential human carcinogenicity of chloroform raises the possibility that an individual's risk of developing cancer will be increased by the long-term consumption of drinking water containing an elevated level of THM's. The risk of liver damage is also increased. It must be realized, however, that each person's susceptibility will vary depending on their general health, occupation, genetic history, use of alcohol and other drugs, smoking, nutritional habits, socioeconomic status as well as the ability of each person to deal with all the stresses placed upon them.
The standard established in Part 5 of the State Sanitary Code for THM's is 0.10 milligrams per liter (mg/l). Compliance is determined from results of quarterly sampling on a running annual average basis. The Department of Health policy is that production of THM's should be minimized to the greatest degree practical while maintaining disinfection benefits.
Preventative Measures: The level of exposure to THM's is relatively low. The New York State and Dutchess County Departments of Health are not recommending that you stop drinking or using the water. However, some people may wish to take certain practical measures which will reduce their exposure. Since the chemical tends to evaporate into the air, use of kitchen or bathroom exhaust fans when using water will reduce the levels of the chemical in the air in your home. Use of less water for bathing or cleaning will reduce exposure through breathing the vapors and through skin contact. Other individuals may choose to use bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes or install point of use treatment devices.
Question: Why is the EPA director promising the Copenhagen conference that she will go around congress if needed? Last time I checked we elected a President and had a Congress that made the laws. I don't remember electing a King.
For the EPA director to promise that she would regulate CO2 at the behest of the Copenhagen conference will and not the will of the American people and the Congress they elect is scary.
Do you think that is right for our President to rule by decree and subvert the congress?
Answer: I thought the EPA already had pollution laws on the books as is.
In my state we have emission testing every time we get our license plates.
The state even has vans monitoring vehicle emissions as you're accelerating on the on ramps.
If you fail the emissions testing then, you are sent a notice.
If the EPA feels stricter rules need to be enforced, then go after the guilty parties and NOT tax every one for it!
Question: Does is worry you that the EPA is claiming the power to regulate CO2 emissions, which we exhale? WIll the EPA consider all living animals to be polluters by default. What kind of fine will we have to pay? Who will make the wildlife pay? What if we lose our EPA-issued government licenses to exhale?
Answer: That's ok. You need oxygen to survive and that's not regulated, so you can keep inhaling. EPA can only revoke your exhaling license.
Question: How can I check if ac contractors are really EPA certified and registered in Texas like they claim? I tried to check to check if they the two guys names on the card have an ac license but I couldn't find anything. I need to know because I was trying to help my landlord find new ac repair people. The guys claim to be Texas state registered and EPA certified on their buisness card they gave us.
Answer: They should have several different cards and papers if you ask. They should have several local and state certs on top of the basic universal refrigerant certificate. The universal is the most basic cert and means they can work under someone, but not for themselves. They must have a higher cert to be legal.
In truth it doesnt really matter, since having those certs dont mean they can actually fix anything, it just means they have worked for a handful of years and passed a test.
On a slightly different subject, if the house is from the 70s or earlier, it probably has terrible insulation like 3-5r, and so a few hundred bucks worth of reflective insulation would significantly lower cooling costs. Any moron can install it and it pays for itself in a few months.
Question: What executive orders should be given to ICE and the EPA so that they do not have to enforce the law? In this way, ICE will not have to enforce immigration law in Arizona, and the EPA will not have to protect the environment along the Gulf Coast. We can then blame the ensuing crises on the right wing.
Answer: Those "orders" were given decades ago. We haven't had a president with the you know whats to enforce our laws.
Question: Do you think Obama EPA appointee Lisa Jackson declared CO2 a dangerous gas because she thinks it is or? Because Obama's political agenda needed her to do that?
Do you have faith in the EPA or do you think its become just another tool in the Democrats toolbox?
Answer: I think the whole idea that a naturally occurring gas would be labeled dangerous is ludicrous. In fact without some green house effect on earth we would be a cold sphere hurling through space.
Question: Does the EPA have the Constitutional authority to(hypothetically)declare oxygen a pollutant under EPA control? (considering that too much atmospheric oxygen would endanger plant life, cause extreme rust damage, and risk out-of-control fires)?
If the EPA does have that authority, what is the legal basis for it?
Answer: I don't think so. I believe the EPA would have to issue an endangerment finding as they did with greenhouse gases, which states
"The Administrator finds that the *current and projected* concentrations of the six key well-mixed greenhouse gases--carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)--in the atmosphere threaten the public health and welfare of current and future generations."
Emphasis added. Only when a 'pollutant' reaches levels which pose current threats will the EPA regulate it.
Question: How long before the EPA CO 2 rules force car companies to stop selling trucks? The EPA announced yesterday that carbon dioxide is a dangerous pollutant. It's widely expected that this will result in new, more restrictive mileage standards that force trucks and SUV's off the road. Is this OK with you?
Answer: Oh yeah it's so dangerous it kills plants that take it in. And what's so bad is that every creature that walks, crawlsm or flies gives off CO2.
I'm wondering just how much the American people are going to put up with before they start open season on liberals in Washington DC.
Here's another couple for you.

These folks have gone completely bonkers.
Question: Is the EPA doing a good job in protecting the environment? I have to do a paper about the Environmental Protection Agency, and whether or not they're doing their job. I want to be con EPA just because it sounds more interesting (in my class's opinion at least; I asked them). The thing is, I can't find any complaints against the EPA to support my con EPA thesis. So I ask you Yahoo answers: Is the EPA doing their job? If they are, should I just be pro-EPA, despite the fact that it'll be most likely unbearably boring? And if you think they aren't doing their job, please give an good explanation why.
Answer: Under the Bush Administration the US EPA has absolutely not done a good job in protecting the environment.
For one, the US Supreme Court had to force them to start regulating greenhouse gas emissions. Research Massachusetts vs. the EPA:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts_v._Environmental_Protection_Agency
On top of that, California is trying to put stricter regulations on our state's greenhouse gas emissions than the federal regulations, and the EPA won't let us.

The US EPA is doing an absolutely terrible job protecting the environment.
Question: Could having a work history in the porn industry hurt my chances of getting a position with the EPA? I have not worked in the porn industry but have considered it just to experience it once. Carpe diem, right? However, I am attempting to pursue a career with the Environmental Protection Agency, or any national or international government organization dealing in environmental issues. Could have a job history in the porn industry affect my chances of career with the EPA?
Answer: why would you list that as work experience?
Question: How can I find out the emailing address of an EPA official? I need to know the email address of an EPA official who I could contact about the proper disposal of medical waste. I've searched and searched and I can't find an address that would work. The address has to be valid. I need this for a ninth grade science project because I'm trying to raise my grade so I need an A on this assignment because it's worth two tests! And in order to get an A, I need to write an email to a valid address of an EPA official about medical waste. Can anyone help me?
Answer: See the medical waste website for EPA at:
http://epa.gov/waste/nonhaz/industrial/medical/index.htm
Also, please understand that often a state will have their own regulations and policies about how medical waste is managed, regardless of the federal regulations. What that may mean for you is that an EPA official will likely tell you that you'll need to contact a state for requirements that apply for those areas you are interested in.
The web page I cited provides background into general medical waste management standards and policies.
Question: Will Obama use the EPA to threaten the Senate into signing an international carbon agreement? Now that the EPA has made its endangerment ruling do you believe at some point during Obama's term that the EPA will threaten to enforce even more strict regulations if the Senate doesn't agree to approve an Obama signed international treaty which creates an international carbon credit market and involves the US paying reparations to other countries for supposed climate damage.
Answer: That appears to be the goal, yes.
This has been the long-time goal of EPA administrator Lisa Jackson. Here's what she had to say back in January: "EPA will stand ready to help Congress craft strong, science-based climate legislation that fulfills the vision of the President," she wrote, adding, "As Congress does its work, we will move ahead to comply with the Supreme Court's decision recognizing EPA's obligation to address climate change under the Clean Air Act."
Government hacks .. government bureaucrats .. are well on their way to implementing regulations with or without legislation from Congress. They will find a way to do this, folks. Declaring CO2 a pollutant is merely a step along the way.
