Maca
Question: Has anyone tried maca to help with infertility? What results did you have if any? We are having trouble with infertility. I am currently seeing a doctor but I'd like to try anything I can. Another woman I know having the same problems is trying maca. I'm wondering if there has been any positive results.
Answer: You should consult with your doctor before taking herbs. Sometimes they can do more harm than good. You can take your basil temp., or try an ovulation test if you haven't already. There are fertility pills the doctors can prescribe too. Be patient. I was having problems getting pregnant and in God's time I had 2 beautiful children without taking any medication. Good luck dear.
Question: How do I know when MACA has gone bad? Hey guys, i bought some powdered maca in December last year. Unfortunately, i didn't use it all immediately, in fact I have about half left. When i went to use some today, i noticed that the powder had coalesced into big lumps and when I blended it it tasted bitter. Is this stuff still good or has it expired?
Thanks for any help. :)
Answer: It will lump up over time... that's totally natural for any powdered product that has any natural sugars (which is basically most fruits/veggies) in it when it gets to the humid summer months.
As far as being bitter, that could very easily be the same problem, but may also be due to other storage conditions. Powdered herbs don't really "go bad" like expired milk... they can go stale (not taste as well) and after an expiration period, they may not be as beneficial, but they don't spoil if they were fully dried.
Question: Has anyone had any result from taking maca root? I have started it this week, to see if it will help me to ovulate.
Have you had any result of any kind on Maca Root?
Whens a good time to take it?
Cooked or Uncooked Powder?
How Much?
Any other effects?
Answer: I've tried it, as have many of our customers... but it's primarily a libido booster. I know there are some women that take it for hormonal support, so it's possible that it might help for ovulation.... but do you mean you aren't ovulating right now? If you're on the pill, in menopause, or haven't started your period yet, I would suggest against taking this (or any herb for hormonal support) until you talk to a doctor (or a pharmacist if it's the pill... they'll have the same interaction information).
That being said, you can take it any time of day. Since it can boost the libido, some people get a little boost of energy from it... nothing sufficient, but enough that it might keep you awake if you take it right before bed.
If you take it in powder form, you shouldn't cook it. High heat can damage the nutritional integrity of most herbs, and can render some of them useless.
I would suggest buying capsules or tablets of Maca if you're going to get it... they're a lot easier to get down, they have standardized doses, and you won't have to worry about the taste. Good luck!

Question: Can Peruvain Maca Root help with energy and overall health? I take 3 tablets every other day and feel way better than I used to feel before taking them. Has anyone taken Maca and noticed overall health improvement?
Answer: I take maca and i've noticed mixed results. I take it in a powder form and put it in my smoothies because i LOVE the overall taste of maca with cacao.
Anyways...... i've noticed that i have energy when i use it. But i've also noticed some mixed side effects. I've noticed that when i use it everyday, i get cramps, about as bad as when i am on my period. So i've wondered if maybe it is effecting my hormones.
So I'm not sure if that answers your question, because im still figuring maca out for myself. But i thought i should let you know that you might want to do some research also on it.
Question: Can you take Maca and Biotin at the same time? Im taking 3, 610 mg pills of Maca a day, and i want to start taking Biotin too. Is it safe to do so? And how much Biotin should i take a day?

As far as a dosage for Biotin, it depends on your age really, as nutritional needs can change as you get older. Here is a good idea of how much you should take.
Age:

14-18 years: 25 mcg a day
Over 19 years: 30 mcg a day

Question: Are there side effects to the MACA herb supplement? I have been taking Zoloft and Welbutrin (both SSRI's) for about a year. I recently started taking MACA in attempt to increase my sex drive. Has anyone combined these drugs and what were the results? ANY info will help. Thanks!
Answer: The first thing you need to do is figure out why your sex drive is low and try to help get it back. I was in your situation and it's not fun without being horny and feeling in the mood when needed. I also felt like my orgasms (if I would even get one) were really weak. Probably because of my sex drive.
However, I tried exercising and dieting but nothing seemed to be working. I thought I was screwed. I then found something just as amazing as the vibrator.
My friend at work told me about this stuff she took to raise her sex drive. It was a natural herbal supplement and was I lucky to of found it. Theres no side effects and the sex drive is just tremendous along with orgasms that are blasting. The stuff is called Hersolution pills. At the time I saved money on them at herenhancement.com
What I did was tried out for 3 months and that was really it. I found taking them every other day or so was the best to stretch it out. After the months were up, I was back to normal with a beating sex drive and my orgasm strength in increased so much.
Well good luck and I hope this helps.
Question: Looking for recipes using Maca Root Powder? Maca is a Peruvian herb, that is suppose to help with many things, including increasing your energy. I've been told you can cook with it, baking and in blender drinks. Any ideas?
Answer: it tastes like a combination of peanut butter and asparagus. You can just put a teaspoon of it into a glass of water and drink it. You don't need a big glass, just enough to wash it down. You also don't want to take more than 2-teaspoons a day and you want to avoid it in the evening or when you want to sleep.
Question: Is it safe to taks Maca root and Vitex at the same time? TTC soon so trying to start regulating my menstrual?
Answer: Yes, I've never read anything that said you can't take them both at the same time...I have done it with no adverse affects. But, they did not help me at all. If you are having trouble ovulating or don't menstrate regularly, I would see a doctor asap. That way, if there is a problem of any sort, you can nip it in the bud right away.

Question: What happens when you stop taking maca? I stopped taking maca and have been having strange and frequent periods.
Answer: Basically, that's it. I took Maca for about a year for hot flashes. All that happened was I got the hot flashes back and nothing more, after stopping. All Maca is, is a root. Like eating a veggie, sort of.
You should regulate out once it's out your system for good, depending on how long you took it.
If you're worried, see a dr.
