Sweetener
Question: Is it safe to use sweetener if you are not diabetic? What is the best sweetener? Is it safe to use sweetener if you are not diabetic. There is a long list of people in my family with diabetes. I figure if I use sweetener, it would lower my chances of getting diabetes. There are a ton of sweeteners out there, which one is the best?
Answer: Hi!
People say a lot of things about artificial sweeteners, and people have been quite rude to me about it in the past, but I've gone to quite a few seminars, and done some research, so I'll let you know what I know.
Aspartame used to be the most widely used and most popular sweetener. People say that it will kill you, it will give you cancer, and break down the walls of your stomach... None of this has been proven. There have been many studies, but nothing conclusive as of yet. Still, the stories are scary, and I find it best to stay away from the stuff if you can help it.
Which brings me to Splenda. Splenda is a fairly new sweetener, and it's quite amazing. It is in fact a sugar molecule with the chlorine (If I'm not mistaken) removed. This means that it isn't artificial! And it will not affect your blood sugar.
Splenda, to me is the best sweetener out there, but using the others won't kill you.
Also, cutting back on sugar will only decrease your chances of Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 is hereditary for the most part.
I hope this helped a bit.
Good Luck!
Question: How many artificial sweetener packets do you use in a day? I know it's not good for you but I still use them everyday. I use about 1-2 a day to sweeten my coffee and sometimes my oatmeal. I find that Sugar Twin tastes the best and Splenda leaves a bad after taste. Which sweetener do you use and how many packets do you use in a day?
Answer: I don't use any. I drink tea plain and don't do coffee. If I use anything I go for honey when possible and regular sugar when not. I don't think the fake stuff is any better for you than the real. It saves a few calories but has worse made made chemicals.
Question: What is better nutritionally speaking for using as a sweetener? I dont trust these artificial sweeteners because of all the bad crap I hear about them. What is the nutritionally best form of natural sweetener? White sugar? Brown sugar? Honey? I also see that things like fructose are coming out. Ive also heard bad things about white sugar too.
Answer: I would guess at honey.
Question: Will a sweetener such as Truvia be better for my skin than sugar? I have mild breakouts on my face and I believe it is directly related to how much sugar I put in my five daily cups of coffee. Would using a different sweetener such as the all-natural Truvia lessen the effect on my skin?
Answer: more likely it is related to the coffee itself and the caffeine. You can always try it. just be aware that using too much of a sugar alcohol (like truvia-xylitol, malitol, or sorbitol), while caloricly friendly, can cause digestive issues of cataclysmic proportions.
Question: Why do people thing that Splenda is the best no calorie sweetener? It is a fact that Splenda is an artificial no calorie sweetener that is very dangerous to our system (although not as bad as aspartame). Why does the FDA allow the sale of it? Meanwhile Stevia being a all natural no calorie sweetener has to be labeled as a 'Dietary Supplement' when it's used as a no calorie sweetener?
Answer: People like to believe what they are told by the world, not many people actually do the research and find out information on their own. :)
Question: How much Splenda do I use in place of a liquid sweetener? I have a sugar-free diabetic fudge recipe I want to try. How much Splenda would be the equivalent to 3/4 tsp of liquid sweetener?
Thank you
It's a diabetic recipe so please don't suggest sugar. Thanks.
Why can't people read?
Answer: Do you know what artificial sweeteners do to the human body, including Splenda? Well, here's a list:
Reduced growth rate in newborns and adults at levels above 500 mg/kg.day
Decreased red blood cells -- sign of anemia (at levels abofe 1500 mg/kd/day
Decreased thyroxine levels (thyroid function) (According to McNeil, since this only occurred on male rats and no abnormalities were observed with the thyroid tissue, this was considered insignificant.)
Mineral losses (magnesium and phosphorus) McNeil stated that these patterns were variable and at times not dose related so they were not significant.
Decreased urination
Enlarged colon (The FDA Final Rule states cecal enlargement is often seen with poorly absorbed substances and is not significant.)
Enlarged liver and brain (McNeil stated these were insignificant due to a lack of a dose response.)
Shrunken ovaries
Shrunken thymus aboe 3 grams per day
Enlarged and calcified kidneys (McNeil stated this is often seen with poorly absorbed substances and was of no toxicological significance. The FDA Final Rule agreed that these are findings that are common in aged female rats and are not significant.)
Increased adrenal cortical hemorrhagic degeneration (McNeil stated that this is a variable finding common in aged rats and not toxicologically significant.)
Increased cataracts (McNeil stated that cataracts were discovered upon microscopic sections of the eye tissue and that this was not as accurate as in-life ophthalmological examinations and did not reveal any treatment- related ocular findings.
Abnormal liver cells (The FDA Final Rule states that this was only marginal and probably not treatment related due to the severity of the lesion was not contaminant with the dosage.)
ALSO ... The ADA (American Diabetic Association) chief medical officer simply does not believe that sugar OR artificial sweeteners have anything to do with diabetes. What does that tell you.
Be informed & do the research. Diabetes is not a disease of blood sugar! The FDA just wants you to believe that.
Question: How is sweetener bad for you? I herd from some one that sweetener is bad for you is it. And I know having to much of every think is bad for you but how is sweetener bad for you when sugar is worse. What dos sweetener do to you that sugar doesn't.
Answer: Aspartame has been the subject of controversy regarding its safety and the circumstances of its approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Some critics believe it to be the cause of a number of illnesses. To this day, the health effects of aspartame have been under intensive study.
It has also been known to cause Cancer in some cases. It has been banned by the FDA for all food marketing......
I love you and i hope we are ok
Question: How does coffee with cream and aspertane ( Equal brand sweetener ) affect a blood test for diabetes? If I drink a cup of coffee with cream and artificial sweetener before a blood test for diabetes, will this show that I do, or do not have diabetes? How will this combination affect other blood tests?
Answer: Both actually will show up and increase the chance for a high reading.
There are two articles that thoroughly explain why.
One is about coffee creamers....

And the other about sweeteners (both artificial and natural)...

If you enjoy your cup of coffee and aren't looking to give it up any time soon, I suggest drinking BSkinny coffee, which is a low glycemic, non-cephalic coffee. The leading Glycemic Researchers have come up with a triple combination coffee system that will help address the issues that come with diabetics drinking coffee.
The sweetener called, BSweet, is a natural fruit sweetener from the acai berry and kiwi fruit, that also is low glycemic and non-cephalic.
Lastly, is the creamer, called BCreamy, that again meets the citeria listed above.
Try to avoid high glycemic foods and drinks before getting a blood test done next time :)
Let us know if you have any questions, or if you would like a free sample of BSkinny to try. We look forward to serving you.
Warmest Regards,

Question: If a cake recipes calls for sugar, is it okay to substitute the sugar for an artificial sweetener? Does the type of sweetener matter or are they all the same? Will some recipes be okay with sweetener while others will fail?
Answer: try splenda they have a big bag that is made especially for baking its like an artificial sweetener but it taste just like sugar and doesn't leave that nasty taste in your mouth and also keeps the cake moist as if it were real sugar where as a artificial sweetener would dry it out. they also have something similar made by equal i believe but i know from experience splenda is good just make sure you get the one for baking

Question: Is it bad to have to much sweetener? How much is too much? I am trying to replace sugar with sweetener. I use it in 3 or 4 cups of tea every day but that is all.
I have heard that using sweeteners too much was bad for your health - is this true?? And is the amount I'm having ok?? Thanks.

Question: What is the difference between high fructose corn sweetener and high fructose corn syrup? I can't find anything to state that they are different and a friend of mine is against high fructose corn syrup, yet her soda has high fructose corn sweetener.
Answer: The food industry hides the amount of sugar in products by using different names for the same thing In a product.
They may have sugar in different forms down four times, but the one most people focus on is the first one. Some do not recgonize the other forms of sugar.
They do often use different types of sweetener such as glucose, sucrose levuloce, dextrose, maltose etc.
Fructose simply put is fruit, / vegetable sugar.

Question: Where can I get liquid sweetener for coffee drinks? Hi, I'm addicted to ice coffee drinks. At McDonalds & Starbucks, they use some sort of liquid (sugar) sweetener. I think it tastes better than sugar and disolves nicer than real sugar. Any idea where I might find this type of liquid sweetener. I'm looking for plain (regular) sweetener, NOT the flavored kinds like carmel/vanilla you see in most stores.
Answer: You can make your own simple syrup really easily. Just boil down 2 parts sugar to 1 part water, allow it to cool, and store for future use. You could also try agave nectar, a sweetener made from blue agave that is similar to honey but dissolves better and doesn't have as strong a taste.
