Vitamin B2
Question: If you are a vegetarian, should you take a supplement of Vitamin B2? -and what foods contain vitamin B2?
Answer: Nutritional yeast and spirulina are excellent vegan sources of B12. Many brands of soy milk are also fortified with B12.
After exercise, I add a little nutritional yeast to my protein shakes. Not only do I get more than enough B12, I get fiber, folic acid, selenium, and other B vitamins.
Question: Has anyone used vitamin B2 to prevent migraine headaches? My wife gets them a couple times a month, and we recently heard that B2 can help prevent them, so she has started taking vitamin supplements. Has anyone had any experience with this method of prevention?
Answer: Yes, I tried that. It didn't work for me, but we are all different individuals. I was very frustrated with mine, as I couldn't determine a cause. I kept a food diary, cycle diary, etc, tried to see if there were food allergies-my doctor was even baffled. One thing that did help was taking extra magnesium with my daily multivitamin because calcium absorbs magnesium. Interestingly, in my case, to get rid of an exceptionally bad migraine, I would have to drink a coke and eat a chocolate bar, which goes against everything in migraine research. Another interesting discovery is that since I was diagnosed with diabetes in November, I have stopped soda cold turkey, drink lots of water and iced tea with lemon, watch my diet, and exercise a lot more. I have not had one since. So many things can cause them, and each individual has different triggers and things that bring relief. Keep searching, and just be supportive, as you are, and I hope you find the key-perhaps this will be it! The following websites helped me:

Question: I am thinking of taking a vitamin B2 supplement to improve the appearance of my skin. looking for advice? can anybody offer some advice on the best way to take this? also, is it worth the money?
Answer: Vitamin B2 :
Also known as Riboflavin. Lack of this vitamin leads to ulcers in the mouth, dimness of vision and cracked lips. Vegetables, liver, milk and eggs are rich in this vitamin.
Preparing a well balanced, nutritious and healthy meal is by far less expensive than taking supplements.
There is also the attendant danger of overdosing. You cannot overdose yourself by eating foods that contain vitamins. In addition, you may be getting enough water soluble vitamins from the food that you eat and the additional vitamins that you take are, in addition to causing the side effects of overdosing, only going to be flushed out of your system. They simply will not be absorbed.
A loss to time, effort and money.
Overdoses of the fat-soluble kind are the real culprits. The results of overdoses are many. For example, an overdose of vitamin A could cause ringing in the ears, blurred vision, hair loss and a host of other effects.
Vitamin B2 is water soluble but taking vitamins alone, like taking vitamin B alone is more detrimental than taking it in combination with other vitamins. That is why, taking Multi-vitamins is recommended!
If I were you, I wold only take it if you really are that busy to get it from your food!
Women should have 1.1 milligrams of riboflavin daily
More Sources of Vitamin B2
* Riboflavin-enriched breads and cereals
* Red meats
* Green, leafy vegetables
* Dairy products
Vitamin Storage
If you want to get the most vitamins possible from your food, refrigerate fresh produce and keep milk and grains away from strong light. Vitamins are easily destroyed and washed out during food preparation and storage. If you take vitamin supplements, store them at room temperature in a dry place that's free of moisture.

Not a problem Rhianna returns,i actually agree everything should be in moderation.
Not a problem Rhianna returns,i actually agree everything should be in moderation.
Answer: That's because the yeast used in the beer making process contains various B vitamins, although the amount in beer isn't significant enough for it to be a good source.
Nutritional yeast shines in that department and its really tasty too :)

Question: Will Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) cause a false positive on a drug test? I am currently on probation for two underage drinking violations. My P.O. drug tests me once a month and recently I was looking online at all the drugs/vitamins that cause false positives. Vitamin B2 (which I take) causes a false positive for THC. What happens if I get a false positive will my P.O. violate me? She hates me and I am worried that she would use this as an opportunity to send me to jail. As long as I tell her I take B2 before the test will I be ok? What are my rights as far as false positives?
Answer: Your source is wrong. Vit B2 doesn't cause false positives. If you're truly concerned about the meds that you're taking causing deceptively positive UA results, then talk to your PO about your concerns, tell her what you found on the internet, and ask her what lab they use. From there, call the lab. Is B2 all that you're taking? If so, have no fears.
Question: why does vitamin b2 make your urine neon yellow/orange?
i just started taking it today, and it's super neon yellow ! i knew that was a side effect, but why the heck does it cause that to happen?! i have to take 400mg a day as a preventative for headaches/migraines
Answer: Lancenigo di Villorba (TV), Italy
Despite you asked about vitamin B2 in Medicine Session, this is a Chemistry Argument.
In effect, Vitamin B2 is known as RIBOFLAVIN.
Hence, I treat onto a Flavins, e.g. a Chemical Category named later "FLAVIUM", a Latin word meaning Yellow.
Among Flavin's Class, RIBOFLAVIN HAS A MOLECULAR STRUCTURE SIMILAR TO THREE HEXAGON, THE ONE CONDENSED TO SECOND SIDE-BY-SIDE.
Really, this structure host many Nitrogen Atoms among Carbon Atoms you attended since this is an organic compound.
Well, you have to know that Human Urine results a chemical mixture able to keep its physiological pH level, as a Chemical Buffer.
Well, the physiological pH values are the lone conditions assuring yellow hue to Riboflavin.
Indeed, strong acids or strong bases will decolourize it.
I hope this helps you.
Question: what are the symptoms of vitamin B2 deficiency?
Answer: This will give you an excellent insight view of your question:
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) deficiency
Vitamin B2 is a water-soluble vitamin needed to process amino acids and fats, activate vitamin B6 and folic acid, and help convert carbohydrates into the fuel the body runs on adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Under some conditions, vitamin B2 can act as an antioxidant. Riboflavin works with the other B vitamins. It is important for body growth and red cell production, and helps in releasing energy from carbohydrates. Vitamin B2 plays an important role in releasing energy from carbohydrates, fats and proteins. It also helps to maintain the integrity of red blood cells and nervous system function. Vitamin B2 regenerates glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that is one of the main protectors of the body's cells against free-radical damage. Riboflavin is involved in energy production as part of the electron transport chain that produces cellular energy. Vitamin B2 aids in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, and is important in the prevention and treatment of cataracts.
Riboflavin deficiency has profound effects on the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. All three of these basic food elements require riboflavin if they are to be properly utilized by the body. A deficiency of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) may result in bloodshot eyes, abnormal sensitivity to light, itching and burning of the eyes, inflammation in the mouth, a sore and burning tongue, and cracks on the lips and in the corners of the mouth. It may also result in dull or oily hair, an oily skin, premature wrinkles on the face and arms, and split nails. Riboflavin deficiency also leads to the malfunctioning of the adrenal glands. It can be contributing cause to such disorders as anaemia, vaginal itching, and cataract. Vitamin B2 deficiency can occur in alcoholics. Also, a deficiency may be more likely in people with cataracts, or sickle cell anemia. People with chronic fatigue syndrome may be deficient in vitamin B2. In developing countries, riboflavin deficiency has been found to be a risk factor for the development of preeclampsia in pregnant women.
The most common cause of riboflavin deficiency is dietary inadequacy, which occurs in those who do not consume rich dietary sources of the vitamin, such as organ meats, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, leafy green vegetables and whole grains. Riboflavin deficiency is usually due to dietary inadequacy but can occur most frequently in people with long-standing infections, liver disease, and alcoholism. Deficiency of the vitamin can occur in the elderly subsisting on tea or coffee, toast and cookies. Riboflavin deficiency also occurs in those with chronic liver disease, chronic alcoholics and those who receive total parenteral nutrition (TPN) with inadequate riboflavin. Marginal riboflavin deficiency, in the context of nucleoside analog antiretroviral therapy, has been known to cause severe lactic acidosis. Riboflavin deficiency occurs when the chronic failure to eat sufficient amounts of foods that contain riboflavin produces lesions of the skin, lesions of smooth surfaces in the digestive tract, or nervous disorders. People taking antipsychotic or antidepressant drugs or oral contraceptives are susceptible to riboflavin deficiency.
Riboflavin is vital for normal reproduction, growth, repair and development of body tissues including the skin, eyes, connective tissue, mucous membranes and the immune and nervous systems. Deficiency of riboflavin is primarily manifested in the skin and mucous membranes. Characteristic symptoms of riboflavin deficiency include lesions of the skin, especially in the corners of the mouth, and a red, sore tongue. The first signs and symptoms of deficiency are a sore throat and sores at the corners of the mouth. Worsening symptoms include a swollen tongue, seborrheic dermatitis, anemia and impaired nerve function. Though severe deficiencies of vitamin B2 are not prevalent, moderate deficiencies are found quite often and are most common among the elderly population. Low dietary levels of riboflavin have been linked to certain esophageal cancers. Riboflavin deficiency has been associated with an increased incidence of esophageal cancer in certain parts of the world.
Riboflavin deficiency can cause inflamed tongue, inflammation and ulcers in the mouth, Dandruff, weakness, abnormal blood vessel growth on the sclerae (whites of the eyes), and low blood counts. Vitamin B2 deficiency include cracking of the lips and corners of the mouth, an inflamed tongue, loss of visual perception and sensitivity to light, cataracts, and burning and/or itching of the eyes, lips, mouth, and tongue. Symptoms of riboflavin deficiency include sore throat, redness and swelling of the lining of the mouth and throat, cracks or sores on the outsides of the lips and at the corners of the mouth, inflammation and redness of the tongue, a moist, scaly skin inflammation, and a decreased number of red blood cells. Other possible symptoms include dizziness, hair loss, insomnia, poor digestion, and slowed mental response.
Question: Why would a large dose of Vitamin B2 be less harmful than large doses of Vitamin A? Thank you,
Christa Anne
Answer: The other poster, yeow, is correct. The B vitamins are water soluble and the body will store less, and get rid of excess in the urine. Vitamin A is fat soluble and toxic levels can build up in the liver. You can take as much beta carotene as you wish as the body will convert this to vitamin A as it is needed. Taking large amounts of beta carotene will only turn you orange until you stop taking it. Large amounts of pre-formed vitamin A can also cause birth defects if taken early in a pregancy.
Question: Vitamin B2 and B6 Help? I just bought vitamin B2 i read that i have to take vitamin B6 also, is that true? I'm using the B2 to prevent headaches. Thanks.
Answer: Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) works best with B6 (Pyridoxine), vitamin C and vitamin B3 (niacin) ........... the B complex of vitamins is a complex that works synergistically (together) ....... to take one or two of them and use them individually will only serve to put the rest of the complex out of kilter and you'll end up with deficiencies in others in the group ....... the B complex consists of B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, folic acid, choline, inositol, biotin, PABA etc. etc. etc....... please buy a complex that contains all the B's ...... a liquid complex would be easiest for your body to assimilate but would generally be less potent than a pill or tablet ....... B3 (niacin) in general will help prevent and ease severity of migraines and headaches........ eat more foods rich in B3 ie ~ fish lean meats, whole wheat products, brewer's yeast, liver, eggs, organic peanuts, the white meat of chicken, avocadoes, dates, figs and prunes.
eat more foods rich in vitamin C too ie ~ leafy and green vegies like broccolli, celery, kale, chard, buk choy, citrus fruits like lemons and limes and oranges ~ rinse your mouth out thoroughly after the lemons and limes even if it's just the diluted juice you're drinking to protect the enamel on your teeth.
B2 (riboflavin) will help with promoting healthy nails, hair and skin, help to eliminate sore mouth, lips and tongue, benefit vision and alleviate eye fatigue, help eliminate peeling burning skin around your finger nails and grainy and sandy feeling eyes.
also, try to cut back on drinks such as coffee, tea, alcohol, sodas and soft drinks (if you drink any of them) which will all do great job of dehydrating you and of robbing you of your precious B complex of vitamins.
Other things that could be robbing you of your precious B complex of vitamins are :- first and foremost being under stress, eating too much animal protein, most otc cold medicines actually, alcohol, eating too much tinned food and processed sugar, antiobiotics ,antidepressants, penicillin, prednisone and aspirin, laxatives and diuretics, the oral contraceptive and eoestrogen supplementation (if you are female).
if you have trouble digesting tablets simply squeeze the juice of a whole lemon into a mug, top with warm water and sweeten to taste (if needs be)...... sip through a straw to protect the enamel on your teeth ....... drink this after you take your tablets and have something small to eat as well ........ the lemon juice will increase the production of hydrochloric acid in your tummy and aid in digestion.....;0)
peace baby
♥

Answer: Organ meats, nuts, cheese, eggs, milk, lean meats, green leafy vegetables, fish, legumes, whole grains, and yogurt.
Question: is it ok to take 200 mg of vitamin B2 daily to control rebound headaches?
Answer: Yes, to a point.
Most B vitamins are water soluable and if you have too many they will simply wash out of your system.
However even so it can still lead to some issues. For exaple if you take over 50 mg of vitamin B2 for long periods of time can lead to cataracts and retinal problems.
Just make sure that is really the solution to your headaches and don't do it for too long.
