Camelbak
Question: Will a marching drum harness interfere with the straps on a Camelbak? I used to have a UnBottle Camelbak that I clipped to the back of my bass drum marching harness for practices and camp, but I lost it. I am wondering if it would be better to get a normal, shoulder strap Camelbak, but am concerned that the harness will push on the straps and make it uncomfortable. Any drummers out there want to help?
Answer: depends, does the old one feel comfortable. if slightly or little less than okay. then try the normal one. if that doesn't work out beter. return it and get another UnBottle one
Question: How do you properly clean a camelbak? I recently found my old camelbak and want to use it, but its all moldy how do I clean it?
Answer: Bleach and soap, then rinse well and use baking soda to soak out the taste. Let dry with a wire hanger so the air gets inside. Test for leaks before hiking.
Question: What's the best way to clean a Camelbak hyrdration pack? I have a Camelbak hydration pack and what's the best way to clean the inside/tubing without buying the brush kit? I feel like just running soapy water through it isn't enough.
Answer: I usually do just that. But, occasionally I use the tube brush. It's the only useful item in the brush kit. But, it's not really long enough. It's difficult to remove the tube for a thorough cleaning.
I haven't found any better way. Search Answers for "Camelbak" and you will find many questions/answers about cleaning a Camelbak. I'm dubious of the effectiveness of some of the methods.

Question: Cleaning the bag of a camelbak? I got gum on my camelbak h.a.w.g. bag an I want to clean it. It has an Army ACU print on it so I cant just throw it in the washing machine. Any suggestions on how to clean it? I got the gum out but it has a pink stain on the bottom.
Answer: .
.
If there is still residue of gum - then clean the area with a drop or two of cooking oil or a spray of 'Pam'. The oil will break down the gum.
Now you can work on the pink.
Gently rub the stained area with q-tip dipped in hydrogen peroxide.
or
Gently rub the stain with a water soaked q-tip dipped in baking soda.
or
Q-tip and Windex.
or
Q-tip and lemon juice.
One of these should clean away the stain.

Could i take the blue camelbak thing that holds the water and put in in my heli pro? Or will it freeze? The heli pro can hold water poutches but i dont have a dakine reservoir.
Answer: I'm not sure about it freezing but I would try it. General those packs that hold bladders will except any bladder on the market unless u have a huge baldder.
Question: Can I put liquids other than water in my Camelbak? Can i put gatorade or alcoholic beverages in my camelbak?
Will the gatorade make it harder to clean?
What about the alchohol?
Will the next thing I drink out of the camelbak taste like alcohol?
Will they smell like alcohol or gatorade?
If it is safe to put the two above in a camelbak, how do you clean it for each in order to get all the taste, smell, and bacteria out of them?
Answer: Sounds to me your trying to sneak alcohol somewhere and then get rid of the evidence.
Question: Getting the plastic smell/taste out of a Camelbak? I just bought a Camelbak bladder and it gives the water in it a horrible plastic taste... I just wondered if anyone here had had that problem, and if they were able to get rid of it, how?

Question: Are visitors to Disney Parks allowed to wear camelbak type hydration packs? My family is going to Disney world later this summer and in an attempt to save money I was wondering if the camelbak type backpacks are allowed in the park.
Answer: Yes, I have one and always bring mine.
Question: Can I use my summer camelbak while skiing? I have a summer mountain bike camelbak (the magic) and I was wondering if I would be able to use it during the winter. Will the water freeze, if so, is there anything I can do to make it so that it won't?
Answer: You can (and should) go to a ski shop and buy the insulating kit, which will be a neoprene (or whatever) condom for the hose, and a covering piece for the sip valve.
Tip: the hose will still freeze anyways, even with the insulating stuff, if it's cold out. Nothing like being at 14K feet, and you can't get a freaking drink without tearing apart the bag and unscrewing the lid, in -40 degree wind chill, with your gloves off, and hypothermia setting in.
Oh, the tip, take regular sips, every chair ride, to prevent it from freezing. You need to stay hydrated anyways!
Question: what is the black residue in the top of my camelbak water bottle? i have a blue camelbak water bottle, the ones with the pop up straws. the inside of the very top of the straw keeps getting black residue in it. i wash the bottle ALL the time by taking it apart and washing with dish soap, and I can get the black residue out, but in just a day or two it accumulates again. all i keep in the bottle is water. what is it and how can i stop it?
Answer: Sounds like mildew. It'll happen believe me. Just wash in a solution of Clorox and water, then rinse, and wash in soapy water again. This should kill the mildew, and prevent it from coming back to often. You will have to do this periodically to keep the mildew from forming. I have had this happen to my plastic pitcher that I use to make and store my lemonade and iced tea. I used Clorox Cleanup on it, it's a cleaner with chlorine bleach in it, and it really does the trick. Just be sure to wash thoroughly in soapy water after using the bleach cleaner, or solution, and you bottle will be smelling clean and fresh. Hope this helps!
Question: Is my Camelbak water bottle giving me an overbite? I have two Camelbak water bottles. The style with the straw and you bite and suck to drink. Recently my retainer has fitted tighter, and I am wondering if it due to biting and sucking, similar to how children get overbites from sucking their thumbs or pacifiers.
Answer: Yes, this is causing damage to your teeth.
Question: What type of Camelbak should I get? I plan to run my first marathon in March 2010 and was advised to buy a camelbak. Do I need a 2 liter? Would it be better if it had a waist strap to stop the bouncing? Most of the camelbaks I've seen don't have a waist strap. If it makes a difference, I'm a short female.
Do I even need one?
Answer: Eh I wouldn't get one, they weigh you down and look a bit unprofessional. The winners of marathons are never wearing any contraptions. As a short female with a marathoner build, It would add more pounds than you'd want to carry. No, you don't need it.
The first thing is to find out how often they're gonna hand out water at various points of the marathon; pretty much all have water. If not often enough, you could get a friend(s) to hold water bottles and hand them to you at strategic predetermined locations, that would be much better than lugging water.
You should drink about .6 l water per hour running during the marathon, so yeah if you take about 3:30, 2 liters is what you'll need, though 2 liters weighs 4 pounds, you could start more empty and refill it, but refilling is annoying.
pros: Some do have waist straps, even "wearable" designs nowadays. Waterbottles and camelbaks are easier to drink from than cups.
Also during the marathon make sure you have gel!
The following model says men but works for women apparently, has a chest strap and bouncing isn't an issue. Those who use them feel like they need them and swear by them, I say get it and do runs with/without and see which you prefer.

Question: does sipping a camelbak water container contribute to wrinkles around the lips? I have one of those camelbak water bottles, the kind with the rubber spout with the slit in it. I've realized that when you drink out of it, you are constantly pursing your lips together, like when a smoker purses their lips on a cigarette. Peopple have said smokers get wrinkles around their mouthes because they are constantly making that motion with their lips, so could this hold true for drinking out of the spount on my camelbak water bottle
Answer: no ive heard that too
its not true
its the smoke that really contributes to that effect on smokers

Question: Camelbak water bottles switching to stainless steel? Does anyone know if Camelbak will continue to sell their plastic water bottles now that they are selling stainless steel water bottles? I've always had plastic Camelbaks, and I would like to continue buying plastic ones if possible.
Thanks!
Answer: They could be adding a stainless bottle to the collection, but there will still be plastic ones available. Stainless dents, and plastic continues to deliver. Don't worry about it.
Question: On a camelbak, where do you put the tube when not in use? I know this kind of sounds stupid, but whenever I try to put the tube somewhere it always sticks out and i look stupid. Where do you put the tube? And also, does every single camelbak come with an on and off switch?
Answer: To keep the tube out of the way and not look like a "dork" just go to the store and get some stick on" velcro" . Put the fuzzy side on the tube and the pointed side on the strap about armpit high. when you need it just a tug dose it and it goes right back with no truoble............keeps it from driping from gravity flow also. ;~)
