Carbohydrate
Question: What is the carbohydrate source that is broken down to release ATP in yogurt? What is the carbohydrate source that is broken down to release ATP in yogurt?
Answer: Sugar?
Question: How do you know something is a carbohydrate and not a fat or protein? When looking at a molecular structure what things can tell you it is a carbohydrate, lipid (fat), and protein.
Answer: fats are made from bonding a polyalcohol and multiple fatty acids -COOH from fatty acid undergoes dehydration synthesis with -OH from alcohol producing fat and water.
carbohydrates have the general CH2O empirical formula
proteins are made from peptide-bonded amino acids, which in turn have the amino (NH2) group.
Question: What carbohydrate is found in the brain? If glucose is a carbohydrate found in blood and ribose is a carbohydrate found in RNA, then what carbohydrate is found in the brain?
Answer: Glucose or blood sugar is the food for the brain. It is a simple carbohydrate.
Question: How can I reduce my carbohydrate intake? I need to gain weight.
So I’m told to take in more protein and cut on carbohydrate.
Also, what foods have more carbohydrate?
Answer: I don't know who told you that, but it's ridiculous. To gain weight, increase your caloric intake. In short words: eat more.
Your macronutrient ratios don't have all that much to do with it, but if anything, increase carbs and fat.
Question: What are some carbohydrate choices other than rice, potatoes, and corn? I'm gluten sensitive, and I eat a lot of the above three. Any other good sources of carbohydrate?
I can't eat pasta, bread or things like that.
Answer: Ok you are getting lots of gluten filled answers!!
I use gluten free pastas a lot, my faves are Tinkyada and Ener-G both are found in health food stores and online.
Also Lundberg Farms makes a YUMMY risotto that's gluetn free and low fat! Its Delicious!!
Try jazzing up the potatos, bake in the oven, make home made fries, sautee with spices.
Try various rices, jasmine, risotto, etc.
Really you dont want a ton of carbs anyway! But if you like to cook or bake, there are TONS of gluten free versions of breads, bagels, muffins, rolls, cakes, cookies, etc.
I'll list a few and if u need any further info let me know!!

Question: I have a question about Spaghetti and Carbohydrate? If I want to cut down on Carbohydrate and if I cook more and more like over do cooking will that Carbohydrate cut down?
I just wonder if that is true or not.
I would like to hear from you.
TY!
To Dj 1: No I am not over weight and your answer is very silly.
Answer: No it will not lessen the amount of carbs. But it will make up some super nasty pasta.
Try Dreamfield Wheat Pasta. It has only 5 net grams of carbs per serving.
The protien in the pasta help to balance it out.
Or try a Quinoa pasta. It is a whole grain but doesn't really tatse like it and is LOADED with protien as well.
Question: How long does the body take to break down a carbohydrate/how long does the energy last? For my biochemistry class - I need to know how long the body takes to break down a carbohydrate and use it as energy. Ive searched all over the internet and cant find this info, so any help is appreciated.
Answer: Sugar, especially in the form of fructose is digested very rapidly and is available to the muscles within half an hour. 1 gram of sugar delivers approximately 4 calories. Compare this to an hour of running which consumes approximately 500 calories. A gram of sugar lasts therefore 30 seconds.
Question: What is a carbohydrate? What is the general formula of a carbohydrate? What is a carbohydrate? What is the general formula of a carbohydrate?
Answer: Carbohydrates are saccharides.
Saccharides have a general formula of (CH20)n n=3-9, the most common being 5,6 glucose and fructose monosaccharides.
Saccharides, based of PH can also be cyclic, and for chains leading to disaccharides, trisaccharides, ... , and polysaccharides.
Examples of polysaccharides are starch, cellulose, chitin, and glycogen

Question: How many grams of carbohydrate does a person of mass 73 kg need to metabolize to climb five flights of stairs? How many grams of carbohydrate does a person of mass 73 kg need to metabolize to climb five flights of stairs (15 m height increase)? Each gram of carbohydrate provides 17.6 kJ of energy. Assume 10.0% efficiency—that is, 10.0% of the available chemical energy in the carbohydrate is converted to mechanical energy. What happends to the other 90% of the energy? answer in grams
Answer: In climbing the stairs, the person's potential energy increases m g Δh.
You don't say what value of g your using. Suppose it's 10 m/s^2
Then the gain in PE is 73 * 10 * 15 = 10950 J = 10.95 kJ
If each gram of carbos provide 17.6 kJ of energy and 10% is available then
1g of carbos provides 1.76 kJ of available energy.
So to get 10.95 kJ of available energy you need 10.95/1.76 = 6.22g of carbos.

The other 90% of the energy goes to heat. It always does. Well, almost always...
Question: How do you tell the difference between a protein and a carbohydrate? How would you test if a solid white substance is a carbohydrate or a protein?
Answer: Do a starch test with iodine for the carbohydrate.
Question: Carbohydrate is dervived from carbon and water. How does this describe the chemical group? The word carbohydrate is deprived from carbon and water(hydrate). Explain why this combination correctly describes the chemical group.
Answer: the chemical formula for a carbohydrate is C6 H12 O6
you have your 6 carbons (the carbo-) and you have 6 water molules (-hydrate). H12O6 means that for every one oxygen there is two hydrogens, which is the set up of a water molecule.
C+C+C+C+C+C+H2O+H2O+H2O+H2O+H2O+H2O
=C6 H12 O6
Question: Where do i find a carbohydrate and protein? For biology i need to take a picture of myself with a carbohydrate and protein. I thought these were nutrients? What can i find in my house that i can take a picture with?
Answer: Skin cells contain carbs and proteins alongside lipids and cholesterol
Question: What is the difference between a starch and a carbohydrate? Can someone explain to me the difference between a starch and a carbohydrate? I'm kinda confused on what the difference is between these foods. Starches are potatoes and corn....carbohydrates are pastas and breads.....yes..but what is the actual diffference between those types of foods. Why do they have their own seperate groups?
Answer: There are three basic types of carbs: (1) starchy carbohydrates (polysaccharides); (2) sugars (monosaccharides or disaccharides) and (3) dietary fiber (polysaccharides). Carbs are one of three main food nutrients: the others being protein and fat.

Question: Assume that the carbohydrate component of the diet of a person is severely restricted for several days ? Assume that the carbohydrate component of the diet of a person is severely restricted for several days but the person continues to eat adequate amounts of fats and proteins. What are some of the adjustments that the person’s body would make to the unbalanced diet.
Answer: the proteins would be degraded to amino acids and the amino acids stripped of their amino groups to provide a carbon skelton that can be converted to glucose ....14 of the 20 common amino acids are glucogenic which means , ones like serine alanine, etc can be made into a frgment that could be made into glucose .This means that one can get oxaloacetate to condense with the acetyl CoA coming from the mitochondrial breakdown of fatty acids for energy ( beta oxidation )..so that by using proteins to provide carbon skletons the body is able to use fatty acids as its chief energy source..Cetain tissues can adapt to using short chain fatty acid derivatives such as acetoacetate and beta hydroxy butyrate during the low carbohydarte intake times. Too MUCH reliance on these products without appropriate carbohydrate metabolism can lead to ketosis , a metabolic disease that can be severely debilitating or lethal. The significatly increased utilization of animo acids for making "glucose " or OAA leads to stress on the liver and kidneys to degrade the amino acids ( liver ) and excrete the Urea formed ( kidneys )
