Carbs
Question: Carbs????????? Is it bad to eat carbs when you are trying to lose weight? If you do cut carbs do you see a difference in weight? Is it that effective? If so, what carbs should be avoided?
Answer: Their is a difference between good carbs and bad carbs. The bad carbs is what you need to avoid.
Example: Whole wheat bread= good carb. When white bread= bad carb.
Chips, soda's, candy bars, fat filled ice cream, white rice...
Good carbs are brown rice, fruit like apples are great for natural energy! You also need protein like Grilled chicken instead of breaded or fried. Eating six small meals a day, get in a workout at least 5-6 days a week and drink that water!
I once went on an no carb diet. Yea i lost the weight and pretty fast but once i started eating my favorite foods again i gained half the weight back. So make sure to eat carbs just pick out the good ones over the bad.
Like for a snack i had a yogurt. The new Lit and Fit is only 60 cal and 11 carbs. It sounds like a lot of carbs but it's better than 20 or 40!

Question: How does carbs help you lose more body fat? I heard the carbs are like small twigs over a fire it adds to the burn, and the more carbs you add the bigger the fire. They say working out without the carbs is like trying to burn the whole log full blaze from the beginning and a log fire never gets started this way. You're take on this statement.
Answer: It's true in a molecular biology sense, but it means nothing in terms of diet. The body produces its own glucose to use as fuel. If you eat zero carb, it will make C6H12O6 out of the other stores of energy...fat. If this were not true, then people on zero carb diets would be dead.
So, using this point as a dis-proof of the health of zero carb diets is false. You do NOT have to eat carbohydrate to be healthy. I know: I am a type 1 diabetic, I have tried zero carb diets and I still had to take insulin to keep my blood sugar down! If I was not making glucose in my cells, where was it coming from?
Question: How many carbs per day for weight training to lose belly fat? I'm confused. When bodybuilding, you should have lots of carbs since building muscles require a lot of energy (more than 40 g of carbs). Muscles lose fat and has great metabolic rate than fat. However, people suggest low carb diet in order to lose fat which contradicts weight training. What's going on? How many carbs is needed to lose fat when you do weight training?
Answer: Carbohydrates should be about 55% of your diet. Take your goals in target calories and multiply by .55
Question: How do controlled carbs factor into a low card diet? On the side of my packaged food where the nutritiion facts are, there is a red box that says carb facts. It calculates controlled carbs away from total carbs and it ends up with digestible carbs.
Answer: The controlled carbs are because of the way the pasta is made. Only a small
Part of the carbs are absorbed in the small intestine. The rest passes through to the large one where the carbs, in most cases, aren't absorbed. Be aware that the calorie count remains the same. This is usually not low calorie though - be sure to check that out.

Question: What's the difference between carbs and net carbs in food? To figure out how many grams of carbs you consume daily do you count net carbs or carbs?
But should I count net carbs or carbs when finding out how many grams of carbohydrates I consume in a day?
Answer: Carbs are all of the carbohydrates contained in the food. Net carbs are the carbs minus the fiber content. Fiber slows the "burn" rate and lessens impact on blood sugar.
Question: How many carbs does 30%lean hamburger meat have per serving and what is considered a serving? I'm on a low carb diet but i think i messed up today, I thought hamburger meat had little carbs or few carbs. Can someone tell me the nutrition information for 30%lean only because that is what i cooked with.
Answer: Meat does not contain carbs. The fact that you're on a low-carb diet and don't even know this really makes me concerned for your health.
Question: How many carbs can i eat in the Atkins diet? Hi, I am thinking of doing my own Atkins thing but i am not sure how many carbs can i have a day. Does cheese have alot of carbs? How fast will i lose weight?
Answer: pills..drugs...food..everyone misses the most important aspect..exercise...if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but EXERCISING!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that.
1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day
2.) drink lots of water
3.)exercise every day
4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep
instead of an Atkins diet I suggest the South Beach Diet
Question: How many carbs should I intake a day to see fast weight loss results? I'm 5'7, 164 lbs and watch what I eat. I work out 30-45 mins 6 days a week, but i'm not seeing weight loss as quickly as I would hope to. How many carbs should I intake to maybe reach a 4-5 lb weight loss goal per week? Also what are some good foods with low carbs?
Answer: Stop....before you try any programs you should know a few things about food. One is where the food you eat falls on the glycemic index. This is important for your body to function correctly. Usana Health Sciences has a product called Reset, this product has a weeks worth of meals to reset your bodies sugar levels and a complete meal plan for after the first week. It is awesome and worked well for me.
There is also a great supplement called Acai Berry Select, this will also help you jump start your weight loss. This product gives you a month supply for free as a trial. I added this to the reset and wow did it work. After the first month if you want more of the Acai Berry Select it does cost, but they don't require you to keep going after the free trial it is all up to you
I hope this helps and good luck in your adventures

Question: What's the difference between the carbs in fruit and the carbs in bread? I'm trying to cut down on carbs, but I've noticed some fruits such as a banana have high amount of carbs.
Answer: from science point of view,
fruits, apart from natural sugars as one of the above answers has mentioned, have hight content of cellulose (i.e fiber). This fiber cannot be digested and is mostly egested out..it's not even converted to fat if it stays long in our body. The only carbs that get converted to fat if in excess are the natural sugars (sucrose, glucose).
Breads are made of starch and also some sugar. this can be broken down to simple sugars and if in excess will be converted to fat. so u have starch and sugar.
hope that helps. pretty sure u know most of it already.
Question: How many Grams of Carbs should someone with type 2 diabetes, or gestational diabetes intake a day? I am waiting for my second round of blood work to come back with the results as to whether or not i have gestational diabetes. My OB said she is pretty sure it will come back positive so while im waiting for the final results i want to make sure im not ingesting to many carbs. What is the suggested intake of carbs for someone with gestational diabetes and/or Type 2 diabetes?
Answer: Hello, The amount of carbohydrate foods (carbs) recommended for a person with diabetes varies with nutrient needs, physical activity, weight goals, and other lifestyle measures. For someone maintaining a healthy weight on1400 calories, he or she may eat around 45-60 grams per meal, with 3 meals each day. Physical activity, work/school schedules, and medications may influence the amount of carbs recommended and how the carbs are distributed throughout the day. Additional carbs may be required for intensive physical activity levels. Consistency and portion control are key for blood glucose control. The goal is to achieve and maintain target blood glucose (sugar) levels throughout the day
Question: What is the difference between good carbs and bad carbs? I eat pretty healthy, but I've noticed even simple things like an apple can have a good amount of carbs. What about yogurt and oatmeal? Are carbs necissarily bad for you? Or is it just bread and starch-based things that are bad? I'm confused!
Answer: fiber and starches, or complex carbs, or the best ones for you. starches are what give you energy, and fiber can aid in controlling your hunger and stool size (not really pretty, but fiber has a lot to do with that).
an apple is neither high in starch or fiber. it is high in sugar. sugars, or simple carbs, although can give you energy, are what will ultimately be the ones to store up as fat.
as long as you stay active, it shouldnt be a problem. just stick to whole-wheat products. those are the best bread/ pasta products for you.
Question: How many carbs should a 87lbs girl consume a day? My daughter is 12 and a little chubby. I want to know how many carbs to feed her a day.
Answer: well there are alot more important factors than just age and gender.
However keep in mind that feeding her simple carbohydrates such as sugars and bleached and enriched flour will only add to her chubb.
Switch to 100% whole wheat bread, lay off the sugary kids cereals and treats. I recommend giving high fiber snacks and fresh fruits.
Stay away from added sugars because they are carbs and will go straight to her belly.
Whole grains and high fiber are the carbs you want to feed her.
Brands such as Kashi and Fiber One have excellent food choices that are great tasting and healthy to start.
Question: How many carbs per meal is good for a diabetic to eat? Just diagnosed with diabetes. Having trouble finding out how many carbs per meal or total per day is healthy? I know about portion control/size, just need a number to go by.
Answer: This is certainly a discussion that should be between you and your doctor and/or nutritionist. When I was dignosed the nutrtionist (that specialized in diabetics) took into account if the patient had any other factors other than diabetes such as the need to loose weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, etc.
The recommended carb intake range varied greatly among the people in the group in which I was placed. The lowest was 30 per meal and the highest was 60 per meal with most falling somewhere in between. Some were encouraged to have snacks of 15-20 grams/carbs between meals and some were not. Again, my point here is that it was completely tailored to the individual.
Please ask your doctor's office for a referral to a diabetes education class. Most counties offer it in partnership with your local hospitals. You can also check with your local hospital but chances are you will need a referral from your doctor. The classes are extremely helpful to the newly diagnosed (an excellent start to your diabetic education!) and most often "come with" this nutritionist who will evaluate you.
Question: How many carbs should I eat if trying to reduce intake and lose weight? I have tried low carb diet (on my own) before and have been very successful. I'm trying once again to lose some more weight using this method, but can't remember how many carbs I was eating last time. I'll be exercising about 30 minutes cardio a day and weights 3X a week. If you've got any ideas for low carb foods, let me know!
Answer: Low Carb Dieting Tip
Your rate of metabolism dictates how many calories you burn. Heredity, gender, age, body size. diet and nutrition, activity level, and your overall health factor in on determining how high or low your metabolism is. It is normal for metabolism levels to lower as a person ages. Because of this it is important to begin stepping up your exercise routines in your thirties and forties.
Ways to Boost Your Metabolism
Eat Regularly - Eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day will give you energy throughout the day--helping you to burn calories. Whereas, calories eaten during larger meals tend to get stored as fat.
Maintain a Balanced Diet - Not only how often you eat is important, but your food choices are equally as important. Nurture you body with the appropriate balance of protein and carbs.
Eating whole foods rather than processed food gives your digestive system a workout that burns calories. For example: choose an apple over apple juice.
Workout with Weights - Building muscle mass will replace stored fat. As you build muscle tissue your metabolism increases.
Don't Forget Cardio - You need to get that heart rate up and breathe a little heavier. Twenty to thirty minutes of cardiovascular activity 5 days a week is recommended. Brisk walking or swimming are good. Or utilize exercise equipment (exercise bike, treadmill, or elliptical trainer)
Fruits and vegetables are clearly an important part of a good diet. Almost everyone can benefit from eating more of them, but variety is as important as quantity. No single fruit or vegetable provides all of the nutrients you need to be healthy. The key lies in the variety of different fruits and vegetables that you eat.
Some basic fruit and vegetable tips:
•Try to eat more fruits and vegetables. If you need 2,000 calories a day to maintain your weight and health, aim for at least nine servings (4½ cups) a day.
•Choose a variety of different fruits and vegetables. It's easy to get into a rut when it comes to the food you eat. Break out and try a wider variety - include dark-green, leafy vegetables; yellow, orange, and red fruits and vegetables; cooked tomatoes; and citrus fruits.
Question: How many carbs are in those icky strawberry wannabees in the Special K box? How many carbs can I deduct if I flick'em all out
Thanks for the shopping strategies. I got the wrong box. It happens.
Answer: They are freeze dried but they do taste nasty. How about just buy regular Special K and slice up fresh strawberries or add your own fresh fruit? I do that only I'm eating Cheerios :)
But the natural sugars (fructose) in fruit are all the carbs that are in the strawberries and your body is designed to digest those easily without the adverse effects of your typical refined sugars and "bad" carbs.
Question: carbs?????? i runn 4 miles a day 5 days a week. then i lift for an hour or so. i take a protein shake after my workout. i hear people saying "good carbs". should i take in carbs after my workout? or does that defeat the purpose of the running and lifting? how many carbs are healthy? i am 5'6 male. 19 yrs old. 153 lbs. when is it good to take in carbs and how many a day?
Answer: Not sure this will help, but I offer it anyway.
That is a very good question. I'll try to simplify a very complex
process.
There are two normal sources of energy. Stored fat and
carbohydrates. Stored fat is burned slowly and carbs are burned
fast. You're always burning both, but the ratio changes with the
intensity of the exercise.
When the exercise you're doing leads to very rapid breathing, than
you're running an oxygen deficit in the muscles and burning more
carbs(anaerobic metabolism). Competive cycling, sprinting,
competitive swimming, and intense lifting would fall in this
category.
Walking, casual swimming, slow to moderate cycling, light jogging
where breathing remains pretty normal(aerobic metabolism) means
you're burning more fat.
Exercise physiologists often suggest 20 minutes of intense workout
followed by a long period of light to moderate exercise. This gets
rid of the readily available carbs so the body will switch to fat
utilization.
That leads to the idea for not eating a carb loaded meal shortly
before bed time. This will encourage your body to burn fat rather
than carbs.
I'm pretty sure all this is within the realm of truth.
