Chlorella

Question: What temperature does Chlorella Sp grow best in? I'm trying to grow chlorella to make biodiesel, I know algae will grow even if i just leave it alone but i need to grow over 100 pounds of dry algae in less than a month so i need to have every variable perfect.

Answer: Chlorella and other algae have a wide temperature range. When I grew algae in the lab, the temperature of the incubator was set at 25 degrees C. You could do a very simple experiment by incubating your cultures over a wide range of temperatures to see what temperature gives you the highest density of cells. Another factor is what temperature produces the greatest amount of oils in the cells which might be more important then the greatest number of cells.
