Question: How many supplements are too much? I have a large supply of a variety of supplements. There has been a lot of research to prove these supplements are safe. Can these supplements be taken together?
Milk Thistle
Ginseng
Fish Oil
Biotin
Flax Seed Oil
cHQ10
b-6
b-12
Zinc
Garlic Oil
Coral Calcium
Multi-Vitamin
Answer: the only thing that you have to watch out for are the fat-soluble vitamins: A, D, K. you can overdose on those.
ginseng can be a stimulant and raise your heart rate and blood pressure.
don't take more than 1 multivitamin a day. otherwise you will just pee away what you don't use.
Question: Why do people buy Kevin Trudeau's books? Once I heard him claim that coral calcium "cured" cancer, and this was YEARS ago, I knew the guy was nothing but a fraud.
His strategy is VERY simple. Give some really "good advice" that is self-elvident, then make some unbelievable claims that have not been verified by ANY good research, all the while pretending to be on the side of the little man, while he laughs his way to the bank!
I ask ANY Kevin Trudeau supporter, did his advice work for you? Explain in detail.
Answer: Kevin Trudeau would have made a great used car salesman. Unfortunately he chose health care to assist the gullible and uninformed. As you read Yahoo Answers you realize that there is a significant cadre of people who think the medical profession and the pharmaceutical industry exists just to bilk the public. Trudeau fosters this with his "what the medical profession doesn't want you to know" routine. He's a real artist.
Question: Bad Tasting Corals for Pufferfish? I have a 55 gallon full marine tank, and I'd like to add a few easy to care for corals to add a little color. I have all the necessary equipment (protein skimmer, metal halide/LED combination lighting, calcium, iodine, etc.) and I've done a lot of research to prepare and keep coral healthy, but my only problem is that I have a 2" green spotted puffer (Sushi) that I don't want to get rid of. I heard that there are some corals that are noxious tasting to puffers and they don't want to eat. If there are, what kind are good for beginners and my pufferfish wont have as a snack? I heard maybe xenias? Thanks!
Oh, I forgot to mention! I'd also be open to some awesome looking fake corals if anyone knows of some good ones. I'd prefer icky tasting real corals, but it's cool either way :)
Answer: here's the thing... puffers are not reef safe. if you want to have a reef tank, have a reef tank. getting rid of that one fish will open you up to so many things that are frankly way neater than one fish.
Question: What equipment do I need for a 29 gallon marine FOWLR tank? I have been researching marine FOWLR tanks for weeks now. I have 3 FW tanks that I have set up, but my 29 gallon, I want to change to a FOWLR tank.
I know that I need live sand, live rock (expensive as all get-out), salt, hydrometer, a protein skimmer, and power head(s). I was looking around for the best prices on live rocks (does anyone have a recommendation?) and I consistently came across CO2 reactors and CaCO3 (calcium carbonate) reactors. Do I need either one of those?
I plan to let my live rocks grow out into sponges, critters, algae, and coral. I know I use a power head to create a current to help the live rock filter out the wastes, but does the algae and such require carbon dioxide? I know FW algae is photosynthetic, but is marine algae the same?
Also, I have a 29 gallon tank; how many pounds of rock do I need to efficiently cycle and filter the water? I have heard 1.25-1.75 lbs/gallon of water. Is that the absolute minimum?
In reading, I have read that certain trace elements, iodine, calcium, and magnesium, need to be added. How often, what for, and how do I do that?
And do I need a bubble stone for a marine tank? I know that fish need to breathe, but won't the live rock, if photosynthetic, release oxygen?
Thank you so much, in advance. Sorry about all the questions. I'm really stoked about doing this and I want it done right.
Btw, what is a refugium? What's it used for? Is it the same as a quarentine [sic] tank?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Answer: You do not need live sand, live rock will seed dead arogonite sand and it will quickly become live sand
No the things that grow on live rock do not require carbon dioxide. You do not want algae growing in the tank. It would quickly overrun the tank
You need 1lb of rock per gal of water
You do not need to add trace elements for a fish only with live rock. There is plenty in all decent salt mixes, but rock and fish do not require more than whats in the salt
No air stone needed for a salt tank. Power heads or something to move the water is. A power head can agitate the surface to allow for plenty of oxygen exchange. No live rock is not photosynthetic.
A refugium is a seperate tank that is typically connected to the main tank. Its purpose is 2 fold.
Algae that is grown in it is used to transport out excess nutrients and proteins. It also provides a safe place for micro organisms to reproduce without threat from predators.
Good luck
Question: What is Coral Calcium? Coral Calcium Increases Age
Since then this research group has investigated over 600 centenarians to uncover clues to their outstanding health and long lives. Studies have concentrated on the genetics, diets, exercise habits, and psychospiritual beliefs Elderly Okinawans have among the lowest mortality rates in the world from a multitude of chronic diseases of aging and as a result enjoy not only what may be the world's longest life expectancy but the world's longest health expectancy.

Answer: Coral Calcium
Coral calcium is a salt of calcium derived from fossilized coral reefs. Living coral reefs are endangered and cannot be harvested without severe damage to the ecosystem, so coral calcium is harvested by grinding up above-ground limestone deposits that were once part of a coral reef.
