Digestive Enzymes
Question: Digestive Enzymes? Which of the following is true about digestive enzymes?
One enzyme can speed many types of chemical processes
Enzymes are not sensitive to temperature
Enzymes that work in the acidic environment of the stomahc cannot work in the basic or alkaline environment of the small intestine and vice versa
Enzymes typically work independently of vitamins and minerals
Answer: One enzyme can speed many types of chemical processes
Not true. Enzymes are very specific.
Enzymes are not sensitive to temperature.
Not true. Enzymes are proteins. They denature (lose 3 dimensional structure) at high temperatures.
Enzymes typically work independently of vitamins and minerals
Not true. Enzymes often require minerals or vitamins.
This is the true one:
Enzymes that work in the acidic environment of the stomahc cannot work in the basic or alkaline environment of the small intestine and vice versa.
This is why the digestive enzymes from your stomach don't digest your intestine. Enzymes are often pH sensitive.
Question: What are structures that contain digestive enzymes in a cell? What are structures that contain digestive enzymes in a cell?
Answer: Lysosomes
Question: What elements are digestive enzymes made up of? For science class, one of the questions we have is what elements are digestive enzymes made of, and for the life of me I just could not find the answer in my reading, so I am turning to my fellow yahoolagins. Thanks if you can give me an answer.
Answer: Ok, some enzymes are composed of amino acids which contain Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen. There will also be a metal element typically Iron or Zinc
"Like all proteins, enzymes are long, linear chains of amino acids that fold to produce a three-dimensional product. Each unique amino acid sequence produces a specific structure, which has unique properties. Individual protein chains may sometimes group together to form a protein complex."
Question: Is there any side effect associated with digestive enzymes? My friend is taking digestive enzymes which he swears to be natural and void of any side effects, yet I noticed that he often complains of digestive and stomach problems and irregularities. Is there a connection between the two? Are there any known side effects to taking these digestive enzymes.
Answer: No. We all need them. Most likely he had the stomach prob lems first.
Question: What is a real world example that involves digestive enzymes? I need to give a example from the real world that involves digestive enzymes and how they live in different pH levels in the body.
Answer: A real world example simply involved digestive enzymes? You can't be serious...
Question: What are the best digestive enzymes to take? There are so many digestive enzymes out there to take and i'm trying to figure out the best ones. I am looking for one that helps with the break down of fats in a diet. Someone told me i should try Lipase since i had my gallbladder removed. I went to 2 vitamin stores and one didn't have it and the other had it but it was with other enzymes. Does anyone know any particular names or brands that i could try??? i also heard they should be plant based.
Answer: I recommend all natural EZ-Gest and it contains plant-based enzymes and it also supports complete digestion of the fat, protein, and cabohydrates in all foods.
Contains the following enzymes: Lactase, Alpha-Galactosidase, Protease, Amylase and Lipase.
Question: Please help me with this question. What kind of digestive enzymes are secreted in the duodenum? There are quite alot of digestive enzymes I can think of; Gelatinase,Gastricamylase,Pepsin,Gastric lipase, trypsin, bile salts and lactase
but I do not know if they are all secreted in duodenum.
Thanks for your help.
Answer: By "secreted in the duodenum" I am assuming you mean secreted by the duodenum itself rather than by the stomach, pancreas, liver or gall bladder.
Brunner's glands (or duodenal glands) are compound tubular submucosal glands located throughout the duodenum. The main function of these glands is to produce an alkaline mucous secretion (containing bicarbonate) in order to:
1. protect the duodenum from the acidic content of chyme (which is introduced into the duodenum from the stomach);
2. provide an alkaline condition for the intestinal enzymes to be active, thus enabling absorption to take place;
3. lubricate the intestinal walls.
In addition, intestinal juice is secreted by the intestinal walls, they contain the enzymes:
1. entirokinase - entirokinase activates trypsinogen to tryspsin.
2. eripsin - Eripsin converts polypeptides to amino acids.
3. Maltase - Digests Maltose to glucose.
4. Sucrase - Digests sucrose into glucose and fructose.
5. Lactase - Digests lactose into glucose and galactose.
P.S. The covering of the brain would be meninges...perhaps dura mater is what they were thinking of?
Question: How are the inner linings of the stomach and intestine protected from damage by digestive enzymes? How are the inner linings of the stomach and intestine protected from damage by digestive enzymes? All answers are appreciated.
Answer: Your epithelial cells secrete a mucus lining that acts as a physical and chemical buffer/barrier to the digestive enzymes and prevents them from digesting your own intestinal cells.
In the case where this does happen, it is called an ulcer. Usually one portion of your digestive tract is weakened by trauma or genetic defect, and the digestive enzymes and the low pH begin to digest your own intestinal cells, causing irritation, inflammation, and pain.
Question: Would taking digestive enzymes help me loose weight? Hi, im 17 and i eat pretty healthy, and i am very active, but i want to loose a little weight. Ive seen digestive enzymes in stores, and i know they are for people with digestive problems but would they help me loose weight?/speed up my metabolism? Would this harm me in the future? or slow down my metabolism if i stopped having the pills after a while?
Answer: I'm not an expert, but I do believe that these are intended for people with digestive problems. HOWEVER, it may help you lose weight. My mom takes cascada sagrada (or something like that) to help her actually have a "movement". Something like a colon cleanser can help you to lose weight. I heard once that the body can hold like twenty pounds of waste, which sounds disgusting. "Cleaning" yourself out will not only help you "lose weight", but also getting those toxins out of your body can improve your health overall.
Question: Which of the three digestive enzymes requires a strong acid? "Which of the three digestive enzymes requires a strong acid?"
I seriously have no idea. I thank thee!
Answer: pepsin
trypsin
Steapsin
Question: Need brand name of Chewable digestive enzymes suitable for children? I have a child with GERD and another that has asthma and would like to start them on a digestive enzymes. Only problem is that they need to be chewable since they cannot swallow pills yet and because they are picky, it needs to taste good for them. Thank you for any advice!
Answer: Papaya enzyme tablets are chewable. You can get them from Walmart or any local pharmacies. As for being suitable for children you'll need to look on the label. I take them and they taste pretty good.
Question: The digestive enzymes amylase, maltase and sucrase are all bound to the outer surfaces of the cells that line? The digestive enzymes amylase, maltase and sucrase are all bound to the outer surfaces of the cells that line the duodenum.
A) True B) False
Answer: B) False
Maltase is bound to intestinal epithelium
Amylase is bound to salivary glands and pancrea
Sucrase is bound to liver and salivary glands.
Question: digestive enzymes? do you know which brands are good?
Answer: I've enclosed a link to the enzyme that I take. I feel the most important supplement anyone can take is digestive enzymes.
Enzymes assist kidneys, lungs, liver, skin and colon in their important eliminative tasks. Actually, it would be easier to list what they don't do, for they are indeed involved in every aspect of our lives. In other words, Enzymes move our muscles, stimulate our nerves, make our hearts beat, keep us breathing and even cause us to think!
•ENZYMES are catalysts
•ENZYMES are required by all food to be digested
•ENZYMES are destroyed by cooking and processing food
•ENZYMES from an animal source are only active within the small intestine
•ENZYMES from a plant source become active as soon as they enter the body
•ENZYMES are needed for every chemical reaction that takes place in the body
•ENZYMES are connected to every working organ in our body and run our life processes
•ENZYMES are needed by vitamins and minerals to accomplish their delivery within the body
•ENZYMES can prevent proteins, carbohydrates, fats from fermenting and turning rancid in your system
•Purify Blood
•Enhance Mental Capacity
•Strengthen The Immune System
•Cleanse The Colon
•Break Down Fats
•Enhance Sleep
•Lower Cholesterol
•Shed Excess Weight & Fat

Question: Can toddlers safely take digestive enzymes regularly? Can toddlers safely take digestive enzymes regularly or will this inhibit their own production of digestive enzymes on the long run?
Can digestive enzyme supplements cause diarrhea?
What are the best combination of enzymes for toddlers?
I have a 16 month old toddler and he constantly has digestive issues and I think those supplements make him better, but sometimes he gets loose stools and some people told me it's from the supplements.
Answer: Here's what I found: "According to DicQue Fuller, founder and president of Transformation Enzyme Corporation, who healed her own daughter with enzyme therapy, “Children are treated not by size, but by need. Some children and babies can receive as many enzymes as an adult patient if necessary. There is no evidence that extra enzymes cause any sort of damage, even over a long period of time. However, there is an overwhelming amount of information showing just how depleted of enzymes we are in general, and the negative effects of this, on the general population.”
Question: Is it okay to take prenatals with probiotics and digestive enzymes? I am taking probiotics and digestive enzymes to treat my heartburn, acid reflux and IBS. My doctor wants me to tke prenatals so that whenever I am ready to have children or if it happens unplanned, I will have had folic acid etc. Is it ok to take these products together?
Answer: I am sure that taking both pre-natals and probiotics while pregnant is not harmful but I do suggest you take them both with plenty of water and with some food to get the max from both
Question: What are the functions of digestive enzymes? What are the individual functions of secretions of digestive enzymes (amylases, proteases, nucleases, lipases), stomach acid, and bile salts?
Answer: digestive enzymes break down food and food molecules to its simple form.
amylase--breaks down starch
proteases-break down protein in your small intestines
nucleases--break down DNA matter
lipases--break down fat to fatty acids and glycerol
stomach acid--helps in nuetralising the stomach environment by secreting HCL acid
bile salts are made in the liver and break down fat
