Dinner
Question: Dinner????? Im so hungry, anyone got any good suggestions as to what i can have for dinner tonight. Im in the UK so no american ingredients or take outs/restaurants please x
Answer: Steak Sandwich
1 large strip, round, or shell sirloin steak, weighing between 12 ounces and 1 pound
1/2 t. coarsely ground black pepper
Salt to taste
2-3 T. oil
2 T. chopped onion
4 oz. crimini mushrooms, cleaned and chopped
1/2 t. thyme
1 loaf French or Italian bread, or 1 Vienna loaf
3-4 T. prepared mustard
Trim any excess fat from the steak. Sprinkle both sides with pepper and salt, then brush with a tablespoon of the oil. Heat a cast-iron or nonstick pan and sear the steak about 2 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan. Cook the onion for 2 minutes in the remaining oil, then add the chopped mushrooms, sprinkling them with the thyme and a little salt. Cook, stirring, until they have softened. If the mixture dries out, add a tablespoon or so of water.
Cut a large piece of bread about 1 inch longer than the steak. (If you're using a Vienna loaf, you may not need to cut it at all.) Slice it lengthwise through the middle, leaving an uncut edge as a hinge. Spread both cut sides of the bread liberally with mustard. Now place the steak on the bottom half and scatter the mushroom mixture on top. Fold the top half of the bread down. Wrap the sandwich in two layers of plastic wrap. Take a long piece of string and tie the sandwich up tightly as if it were a parcel, knotting the string in several places. Put the sandwich on a plate and place another plate on top of it. Now weight it down with either cans of food or a bowl filled with water. Leave it for 8 hours or overnight in the refrigerator or other cold place. When you rescue it from the weights, it will be firm and flat. For serving, unwrap it and slice it on the diagonal so you have several strips, each about 3/4 to 1 inch wide. Arrange these on a platter with a bowl of relish or chutney to accompany them
Question: DINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? WHAT ARE YOU HAVING FOR DINNER PEOPLES!

Question: Dinner tonight, something to go or make with a can of biscuits? I have a can of biscuits (they are crappy store brand) that I wanted to use for dinner tonight, any suggestions?
I do not want to make a breakfast dinner tonight.
Answer: a can of dinty moore, you know, beef stew and biscuits..............actually the best thing to do with crappy store brand biscuits that my kids love is deep fry them and roll them in sugar or sugar and cinnamon..........they are really good
Question: What is the healthiest dinner you can eat? I would like some healthy dinner ideas.
Currently i have been eating steamed broccoli, pumpkin and potato for dinner (I know not much but i havent been hungry).
What are the healthiest dinners you can make?
Answer: Homemade soups packed with veggies, like ham with beans and kale, or chicken with some multi-grain pasta and tomatoes.
Skinless chicken breast is great for you along with steamed veggies (veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage fight breast cancer). I love green beans, and steamed carrots. Baked sweet potatoes are great for you too (or you can even make oven fries using sweet potaoes instead of regular potatoes..sprinkle them with some grill-seasoning and olive oil before baking)
We're having white chili tonight..made with grilled chicken breast, white beans, garlic, onions, and reduced-fat jack cheese.
Try finding recipes for healthy meals. I love eatingwell.com when I'm looking for nutrition. Foodnetwork.com has a tv cook..Ellie Kreiger..she's a licensed nutritionist..and has her own website on there.
Question: How does the rehearsal dinner usually work? I am getting married on the beach. It's a simple ceremony. We were planning on going down to the beach the night before (about a 25 minute drive for most) and then coming back to town after and having a dinner. Is that too much driving to ask people to do? Should we just have the dinner and let everyone know who is walking with who at dinner? Or does that not give people enough to go on? It's not like they will get lost walking on the beach lol. Is being at the site necessary?
Answer: I don't think it is too much driving to ask. However, I do think it is a good idea to let everybody at least get a look at the area so they have an idea of what the size and layout is. You might try placing them - you know "stand here, stand there". I really think YOUR mind will be more at ease if you do this.
Much luck to you!
Question: What are the parts of a Dinner? What does a Dinner consist of? I've recently became responsible for all the shopping and cooking for my family. To stay organized i want to create monthly and weekly dinner plans to make the grocery shopping easier and a little less expensive. So in order to plan dinners i need to know what a dinner is made out of. Like a main dish a veggie.... etc. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
I'm thinking just simple family dinners, nothing like 5 course or anything. Also no seafood with the exception of tuna salmon and shrimp. Pasta is a favorite.
Answer: Dinner usually consists of:
Drink (Can be water, juice, milk, whatever)
Salad or Soup course
Entree (Usually a protien base, but can be starch like pasta with some protien)
Side Dish or two (no more than one starch, and if the Entree is a starch, then don't do a starch here)
Bread (optional)
Dessert
You can do all of these things and still make them reasonably cheap and easy, just think about making things simply. Focus on what is inexpensive and dress it up a little. If you are making a rich meal, you might not need alot in the way of starches and breads. Start out doing what you are comfortable with. If you have a crock pot, learn to use it and you will see how easy and tasty crock pot foods are. Shop the sales, I know it's a hassle but collect coupons. There are stores that have 'double coupon' days, and some stores will honor anyone's coupons. Good luck! <3

Question: What are some main course dinner ideas that are good for a family of 2 adults and 2 toddlers? I am attempting to diversify dinner, but I also need things that will stretch to everyone. I don't want my dinners to become redundant. So I would like your dinner ideas and even recipes. None of us like onions btw. You can put as many as you can think of or that you cook personally. I have a slow cooker as well that I never know what to make in it lol. Other than that it is just the traditional appliances.
Answer: This is may favorite meal to make because it become two meals. I have the same size family and the portions work great. 1 Whole chicken (4-5lb) cook at 350 for 1 hr and 40 minutes in a covered roasted pan, uncovered on low broil 5-10 min for crispy skin. Flavor can go many different ways, (all include salt and pepper) 1) saffron and lemon juice, 2) Italian seasoning and olive oil, 3)rosemary, lemon and olive oil, 4 Barbecue rub and than BBQ sauce at broil point.Than once you had your fill removed all pieces of chicken from the bone and chop up. The following meals (plus many more) I like to make most often, (use according with flavor though most can be mixed around), BBQ chicken sandwiches, BBQ chicken pizza, (just need crust cheddar cheese, and some more BBQ sauce), paninis (pesto sauce on sourdough bread with provolone cheese, use a George foreman or just press in pan with a heavy plate), chicken salad ( mayonnaise or miracle whip, onions, salad pickle cubes, and for a little freshness raisins) , or quesidillas , (tortilla shells, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, tomatoes, and just grill flat in pan same as paninis )
Chicken is my favorite food so I have most suggestions for it.
Slow cooker suggestions
4-5lb Chuck Roast, spices of choice, potatoes, onions, celery , and carrots. Cook 1 hour on high, low for 7 more. reserve 1 cup juices before serving and serve leftovers with provolone cheese on sub buns to dip in reserve juices for french dip sandwiches.
4-5lb Boston Butt, spices of choice, onions, green peppers, cook high 1 hour and 5 hours low, use juices to make gravy serve as "pork chops" with sides of choice. Reserve 2 cups juices for next day place butt back in slow cooker add reserve juices and BBQ sauce, cook 1 hour high and 1 hour low (or until completely fall off the bone) pull meat off bone and serve with coleslaw for bbq sandwiches.
Basic slow cooker recipes cook everything high 1 hour and low the rest to help build up heat for a long cook, if you throw random ingredients in there , i.e stew meat ( after coated in flour and browned in oil for a few minutes) potatoes, carrots, random veggies and water to cover, now you have stew. You can use tomato paste to make traditional vegetable or beef stew, or if you had chicken, veggies, tomato paste, water you will be making Brunswick. Random veggies equal veggie stew. I normally cook my stew 1 hour high 5 hours low. If you stick in freezer for about 10 minutes after the stew has cooled you can removed the extra fat from the top. I like the fat so I don't do that. Hope I was very helpful since this was such a long answer. I just know what it is like coming up with ideas for a family.
Oops I didn't see you don't like onions, but that is okay as it is used for flavor and filler in these recipes and can be easily removed.
Question: What is the best way to warm dinner plates? I am doing a large dinner [ 100+] and I want to warm the dinner plates..We use corelle dinner plates. What is the best way to warm these plates before we serve the dinner?
Answer: With that many plates, it's a bit challenging. The easiest way might be to load them in the dishwasher and set to the heat cycle. They'll be warm in just a couple of minutes, then you can stack them and do the next batch for a little while, etc. Stacked, they will retain their heat.
Remember, you can cram them in the dishwasher. You won't have to leave the typical space between them 'cuz you're not washing them.
Question: What would you serve houseguests prior to Thanksgiving dinner? Family members coming for the Thanksgiving holiday. I traditionally cook a big, big dinner, and I have found that while I am working feverishly the day/night before and half of Thanksgiving day on the dinner, my guests tend to mill around and are starving up until the meal is served. I wanted a few ideas on something quick that does not require any extra use of the oven that I could whip up for them to nosh on prior to dinner. I usually serve dinner at 6:30pm. Help!
Answer: Keep it simple and light if possible.
Veggies and dip
Fresh fruit (a bunch of grapes is easy)
Cheese and crackers
Nuts and chips/salsa
Question: What is the difference between a dinner napkin and a buffet towel? (ie: from better than linen -- their dinner napkin is maybe 1/4in bigger than a buffet towel)
If you were having a sit down dinner, would you order the dinner napkin as opposed to the buffet towel and vice versa? What am I missing here?
Answer: doesn't make a difference, just use napkins.
Question: What time do you normally eat dinner vs what time are you serving dinner at your reception? Are they the same time or are you serving dinner at the reception later than you normally eat? For weddings that you attend as a guest, as long as the couple feeds them appropriate to the time of the reception, does it really matter if it is a full meal or just finger foods? Do people really expect a full meal in the middle of the afternoon or evening when they normally wouldn't eat dinner at that time any other day of the year?
Answer: People expect a full meal unless you tell them it will be something else. If you plan to serve finger foods only, then the invitation should say "hors d'oeuvre reception" so guests know they should eat something beforehand.
We usually eat dinner between 7:30 and 8:00 in the evening. Our reception dinner was served about that time. Even though some of my friends eat dinner at 5:00 or 6:00, I'm sure they still expected dinner at the reception.
You need to tell people what to expect so they are prepared. You surely wouldn't want a room full of guests who expected dinner and got finger foods, leaving them hungry. There's nothing wrong with serving finger foods, guests just need to know what to expect. If you don't specify anything, they will assume dinner. Even if your reception is at 2:00 in the afternoon, kindly let your guests know what to expect in the way of refreshments.
Question: What is the best healthy after dinner snack? I'm trying to lose the last 5 pounds. A typical day for me is fruit and a cup of coffee in the am, a salad with protein for lunch, fruit for a snack and stir fry with seafood for dinner.
I know I need some carbs and I crave suger after dinner. I've been eating a cup of dry fruity cheerios every night. It says it has whole grains and 25% less sugar than other cereals. Is this a decent after dinner snack?
Answer: Fruity Cheerios is a good choice for a snack but because it's "Fruity" that makes the original Cheerios a better choice for you!
Question: Romantic dinner using chicken, asparagus and noodles or pasta? I want to cook a romantic dinner for two for my boyfriend!
Having Prawn cocktail for starters, and want to do a main using, chicken, asparagus, noodles or pasta as the main ingredients! Any ideas please?
Answer: Asparagus, Chicken and Penne Pasta
1 (16 ounce) package dry penne pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided (or more, to taste)
3/4 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into bite size pieces
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
4 cloves garlic, minced
12 ounces asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1 inch pieces
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
salt and pepper to taste
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook chicken. When cooked all the way through and slightly browned, remove from pan. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil, crushed red pepper, garlic, and asparagus. Cook until asparagus is tender.
Mix in chicken with the asparagus mixture and cook together for 2 minutes. Add this mixture to the cooked penne pasta and toss with Parmesan cheese. Salt and paper to taste.
Question: What delicious dinner have you made from random ingredients on hand? Totally out of our normal groceries, last night I had to come up with something for dinner. I ended up with the most delicious spaghetti and meatballs using half a jar of tomatoe sauce, a can of V8, and some frozen Swedish meatballs from Ikea. It turned out so well I will make it again.
So, my question is, What have you made from strange ingredients that turned out well?
Answer: Once when I was out of food and didn't want to go to the store. Company came by (of course at the wrong time) and I made spaghetti with garlic and it was really great. Used olive oil and minced up about 8 cloves of garlic let it cook in the oil for a few and added oregano, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Then I tossed in the pasta. I was surprised at how good that was because I usually eat pasta with sauce.....every now and then I make it on purpose and the company I had will ask me to make it for them. LOL...
Question: Planning a dinner - what should I make to go with my risotto? I'm planning a dinner party for three friends and myself...usually I do pasta dishes, but this time I think I'm making a (vegetarian) risotto milanese. I just don't know what else to make to go with it - I'm thinking some kind of salad, but also that there should be something -else-. Any suggestions?
Answer: homemade bread!
