Distilled
Question: What is the difference between distilled water and BOILED water? I've found enough information between the differences of distilled and spring water, but not between distilled and boiled water. Im wondering if there's a difference between using either distilled or boiled water for mixing formula for my newborn. A lot of the answers here talk about not using distilled, but to use spring water, or crib water, etc... However im referring to the instructions on the formula tin, saying to use boiled water. thanks in advance!
Answer: Distilled water is boiled long enough to turn it into steam. The steam vapor is cooled and the remaining water is recovered. All chemicals, heavy metals, etc escape with the remaining steam. All that is left is pure water.
Spring water is water that has been drawn from either melted snow or streams. It is chemically treated to sanitize it.
Boiled water is usually tap water that has been boiled for at least 15 minutes to sterilize it. It still contains chemicals and heavy metals, etc. But bacteria has been removed.
Question: Can I substitute distilled vinegar for white vinegar in a recipe? Making a new recipe for Sweet and Sour Chicken and when I opened the cupboard I found that my white vinegar was nearly empty. :0( Can I use distilled vinegar in it's place or will I be forced to trudge myself ba
I also found white wine vinegar. Would that work?
Answer: I think the white wine vinegar will work better for sweet & sour chicken. I always thought that distilled vinegar and white vinegar were basically the same thing
Question: Is distilled water really bad for you? I've heard that drinking distilled water can cause your cells to pop, but I've also heard that this is a myth. I prefer distilled water because it's wetter and I think it tastes better.
Answer: Most of you would agree that drinking unfiltered tap water could be hazardous to your health because of things like parasites, chlorine, fluoride and dioxins. Many health fanatics, however, are often surprised to hear me say that drinking purified water on a regular, daily basis is potentially dangerous.
Question: Whats the difference between distilled, drinking, and spring water? I have always drank distilled water b/c I like the taste better but the store was out of it today and so I got drinking water. What is the difference between the 3?
Answer: Distilled water is pure water. Water is boiled so that steam is let off leaving anything that is not water behind. The steam is collected and run through a cooling system where it is changed back to water and collected. Nothing but H2O.
Spring water is suppose to be from a natrual source, not from the tap. Spring water can be untreated, filtered, or purfied. Usually it is only filtered so I will never get it.
Drinking water is most likely just untreated tap water. Anything that has minimal treatment to be considered safe enough more normal consumption is considered drinking water. This can mean tap, filtered, purified, or distilled. Most likely if it had any of the last 3 they would say it so I bet it is usually just tap or maybe filtered.
Question: explain the difference between distilled water and tap water in terms of conductivity? explain the difference between distilled water and tap water in terms of conductivity. Explain your answer please.
Answer: Distilled water has all the minerals and all the dissolved gases removed. There is nothing in it to allow electricity to be conducted.
Tap water may or may not conduct electricity depending on the level of mineral content. It is the dissolved minerals that cause the water to conduct. Most tap water contains a sufficient abount of dissolved minerals to signficantly conduct electricity.
Question: the difference between drinking distilled water and regular water? does it react differently in the body or is it the same thing. I noticed a lot of detox diets suggest distilled water.
Answer: distilled water contains no vitamins or minerals. a lot of bottled water is filtered, which still allows the vitamins and minerals to make their way into the water you drink. which is good. distilled water is water that was evaporated and literally contains no significant source of anything. it is on a lot of detox diets because the idea of a detox diet is to let your body drain everything from it.
Question: What is the difference between distilled water and spring water? At some grocery stores I notice that distilled water is a little bit more (in cents) expensive than spring. Why?
Answer: Distilled water is more expensive because it takes some time and energy to remove minerals and things found naturally.
Also, distilled water is neutral, meaning not acidic or basic. Neutral foods and things are very good to take in because they help keep your body not too acidic or basic.
Therefore, the overall quality of this water is better and is priced higher.
Question: How do plant cuttings grow in distilled water? I placed a cutting of a plant in distilled water (<1 ppm).
It has a vigorous root system and has grown a new leaf and is now producing a flower.
Answer: Presently, your cutting, in distilled water, is living off the nutrients stored within the cutting, once these resources are used up it would be necessary for you to provide it with additional nutrition. i
unless you are intending to raise it under hydroponic conditions, by which you would need to give it a liquid feed. or pot it up into a cuttings compost. there should be enough nutrition in that for several weeks. then pot up into an upgrade srength compost.
Question: What's the difference between distilled and deionised water? In a medicinal application, which is the preferable - deionised or distilled water?
I'm spraying it up my nose - not cleaning up wounds or anything!
Rhianna - I have to mix it in with a sachet of salt and bicarbonate of soda.
It is used for nasal irrigation as recommended by my ENT consultant when I had sinus problems.
Hope that clears that up, it certainly works on the nose!
Answer: Distilled water is basically water that has been boiled and the steam from it condensed, removing impurites. Deionized water is water that has been filtered or treated chemically to remove ions. Both processes will produce fairly good purified water, In terms of quality, distilled is better than deionized; deionization does not altogether eliminate uncharged organic molecules and bacteria can still remain.
"I'm spraying it up my nose "
But, why?
=========================================
Edit, yes that would be ok, just use distilled or filtered tap water, or even plain tap water. In all honestly, there's a limitation to how much benefit this will actually be for sinuses.

Question: Is it that important to use Distilled water as opposed to tap water in a car radiator? I have always heard that you are supposed to use distilled water in car radiators, but is it really that important?. What effect does tap water have on your radiator?
A little more clarification...
I have a1994 Toyota Camry. I have a small leak in the cooling system which I have been adding about a half a gallon of water to every week or so. I try to use distilled water whenever I can, but I realize that tap water is better than no water. Im just worried that the minerals in the tap water might do harm - but I just wanted to know if these fears were valid or not.
Answer: You can use tap water, but it leads to rust. Use Anti-Freeze year round. It helps your car engine to stay cool as well as not freeze up in the Winter months.

Question: How long does water have to sit before it becomes distilled? I have this goldfish and I heard you should put them in distilled water when you change their water. He's in a pitcher right now, but that's just temporary because i don't have a tank yet. But how much time should i let water sit befor it is safely distilled?
Answer: Ditto to Deuce's answer. Distilled water is NOT good for fish, any fish.
Use tap water and a commercial dechlorinator. Just letting your water sit out and age may allow the chlorine to dissipate, but, if your community uses chloramine, your only choice is to use a chemical dechlorinator.
Chlorine and Chloramine will kill your fish.
Question: white distilled vinegar added to drinking water helps keep your pet free of fleas and ticks? A teaspoon of white distilled vinegar for each quart bowl of drinking water helps keep your pet free of fleas and ticks. The ratio of one teaspoon to one quart is for a forty-pound animal.
Have you tried this and does it work?
Answer: I've heard of it. But I can't speak as to whether it works or not.
People consume a lot more vinegar than your dog ever would at a table spoon per quart and we would still be bitten by ticks and fleas should we be exposed to them. We may not taste so good to the flea but I highly doubt it would stop them from tasting.
Question: Can I use deionized in place of distilled water for my carnivorous plants? I bought some carnivorous plants recently, the rainwater I had is all gone and it's not due to rain for days. Been hunting high and low for distilled water, if push comes to shove, can I use deionized instead?
I'm not deionizing it myself, just can't find distilled water anywhere but deionized is everywhere. I know there's little difference between the two but need to know if it's ok.
Answer: You pass it through an ion exchanger to deinonize tap water I presume?
As long as your tap water isn't too hard, it's not a problem. Deinoized water is slightly acidic .. the more calcium your tap water contains, the more acidic it will get after passing it through a filter. I don't think it will be a problem though
