Eyeglasses
Question: eyeglasses? I just went to the dr to have my eye re evaluated and to find out since I am seeing double vision one above the other I need to have prism in my lens. My dr said that lens crafters should not charge for the lens itself but may for the prism. Does anyone know if they got their glasses from lens crafters?
Answer: The cost involved, usually is for the base price of the lenses plus an additional charge for putting prism in the prescription. Prism usually is about $3-$5 per unit of prism (prism diopters). You probably have some base up and/or base down prism. If you have already had lenses made and the doctor has re-examined your eye and added the prism to your prescription, most optical companies will remake the lenses and only charge for the prism. Good luck with the new glasses, seems like you're finding out that vision is very precious.
Question: EYEGLASSEs? im wearing contacts because when i was in 7th grade people told me i look different with glasses on, they said i look better without glasses.
what happens to your face when you wear glasses?
do some people look bad in it? or some good?
Answer: Anybody would look good in the right pair of glasses. People who look "better" without glasses have probably just gotten a pair that does not suit their face/facial features.
For example, I have a smaller head than most so wide glasses or those big sunglasses would look awful.
I hope you at least wear glasses at night when you are at home. Wearing your contacts for long periods of time can cause infection or mess up your vision.
Question: What are eyeglasses called that have only the upper halves for distance and no lower halves? I want to look for eyeglasses online and don't know what to call them. I don't need a prescription for reading, only one for distance. I've seen, occasionally, eyeglasses that have only an upper half and no lower half. I need to know what they are called so that I can search for them online.
Answer: I don't think you will have any luck buying them online. Most people think they look pretty goofy and they are not very popular. Most of the time they are made by using a conventional rimless frame and modifying the shape of the lens. There will probably be someone at most optometrists or opticians who can figure out how to make it work for you. As far as I know, they are not even popular enough to have a name.
Question: What eyeglasses would look good on a brown haired and eyed teenage girl? I need eyeglasses for everything and want new frames. I am going into 8th grade. Please, if you have time, find me a picture of a pair of glasses that would fit a heart face. I am white, kinda tan (not to be racist or anything, but for color wise)! Thank you so much for your time and answers!
Answer: If you have a heart shaped face, you want to avoid any extra width on the upper half of your face. So try to avoid wide frames. Best would a not too wide frame, without many details.
Regarding your hair and skin color, try to avoid big/heavy frames. If you are kinda tan, golden, silver or soft brown colors will probably suit you very good.
Hope this helps
Question: Where can i buy new eyeglasses without a prescription by giving my current lenses for them to copy? I am happy with my current lense strength in my eyeglasses. I just want to get a different style frame. I would like give them my existing eyeglasses and i would pick out a new frame. I was able to do this in the past, and now i can't find a store that would do it.
An eye exam would just give me thicker lenses and my eyeballs
would become lazier over the years and the lenses would become thicker and thicker.
Answer: If your state licenses Opticians, (not to be confused with Optometrists or Ophthalmologists, which are doctors) one of them can simply read the prescription off your current lenses and make you a copy. You do not require a prescription to do this, and it is perfectly legal.
They are not allowed to change the prescription, only make an exact copy of power your lenses currently are. This is done with a machine called a refractometer. Not all states allow this, so simply go into a big chain store at the mall like Pearlevision or Lenscrafters, and they will be able to tell you if its possible.
Question: Can I bring the eyeglasses frame to an optometrist to insert the lens into it? I bought a pair of designer eyeglasses frame recently and need to buy a pair of lens to go with the frame. I do not know how to do this in a money-saving way. Can anyone give me any advice how to do this? Where is the low cost place to put my lens into frame? I don't have vision care insurance. Walmart, Sears places like these will be ok?
Answer: yes
Question: How does eyeglasses correct both nearsighted and farsighted eye problems? I need to understand how, eyeglasses fix these two eye problems. How do eyeglasses combine with the light path? How does it reflect or refract light? If you're an expert at this, please help me understand. 10 points for the best answer.
Thank you (:
Answer: It's the precise curvatures of the lenses that will determine the way it will bend light rays to make them focus directly on the retina.
A concave lens ( minus powers ) lengthens the light ray to correct nearsightedness because the eye is too long, and a convex lens shortens it because the eye is too short ( plus powers ) in the case of farsighted people. Farsighted people also require glasses for distance vision.
Then there are people who need reading glasses because the lens of the eye doesn't accommodate enough anymore for close vision ( the over 40 crowd ).. Accommodation is when the lens of the eye gets thicker or thinner to change the focusing power of the eye. Convex lenses are used to provide extra magnification in those cases. Those people have presbyopia and use plus powers like a farsighted person does, but only for near.
Although some people need a concave lens ( minus power) as reading glasses if they are quite nearsighted to begin with when presbyopia starts. They require a lens with less minus power than they need for distance vision.
Question: How can I stop my eyeglasses from giving me acne? Whenever I wear my eyeglasses, I always get acne where the plastic "bridges" of my glasses touch my nose. Is there any way to prevent this or stop it from happening? The only solution that worked fairly well was putting a folded tissue between my nose and my glasses, but it isn't really comfortable to wear (and it looks absolutely ridiculuous). I need some help. ) :
Thanks for the contacts suggestion guys, but I only occasionally wear my glasses.
Answer: Clean the plastic bridges with rubbing alcohol every morning and night to kill the bacteria.
Some other solutions for acne are as follows...
The tricky part about acne is that the problem can actually become worse if you overmedicate. That's because acne medication can overdry the skin, causing a boost in your skin's Sebum (oil) production. This results in...you guessed it - more acne.
So what's the long term solution? Find gentler solutions or even natural acne cures that won't shock your body into more breakouts. Here's what I recommend:
- Use a glycerin based facewash. Glycerin is gentler and will balance the ph levels in your skin.
- For body acne, try using an antibacterial soap to slowly dry out the skin. If your skin gets too dry, switch to a moisterizing soap like Dove to counterbalance the effect.
- Wash your face only 2 times a day max and gently pat dry with a towel.
- Use a gentle face moisterizer if the glycerin based face wash drys you out too much.
- Eat almonds, fiber, drink lots of water and avoid excess sugar intake.
- If acne medication isn't working or causing new breakouts, try applying egg whites to the pimples at night before bed. This natural remedy works great.
- One of my favorite natural skin conditioners is wearing an "oatmeal mask". The oatmeal with smooth your skin while simultaneously absorb toxins and oils from your pores.
- Lemon juice also dries up pimples and kills any bacteria in the infection.

Question: How to distinguish the authenticity of the versace eyeglasses? I bought a second hand versace eyeglasses frame. I wonder if it is an authentical one. Could anyone know how to distinguish the authenticity of the versace eyeglasses?
Answer: Click on this link. Scroll to the bottom of the page and there are links that show each years eyeglass style.
If you want to be sure, only buy them from a reputable retailer.
Many high-end handbags, for instance, have serial numbers sewn under the lining or into the handles and that number can be verified.
Question: Is there protective eyeglasses I can buy for when working on the computer? I do not wear eyeglasses at all. But I want to protect my eyes because I am on the computer a lot. Where can I get this eyeglasses?
Answer: To protect your eyes from what ?
There are no rays of any kind emitted from a monitor, and unless you are wearing glasses, there is no glare.
Glare doesn't come from the screen, glare is what happens on your glasses lenses if they don't have an anti reflection coating. Glare is just the reflected light from the screen on the lenses...but if you don't have glasses on, there is no glare.
So, if you don't have to wear glasses, then there are no such thing as protective glasses needed for the computer.
Frequent breaks and keeping the monitor a good 30 inches away is all the protection you need from getting eyestrain.

Question: What is the best way to clean eyeglasses? It seems no matter what I do my eyeglasses will not clean. If my daughter gets her fingerprints on them or if I get something on them I can never get it off. I use water and a cloth, glass cleaner and a cloth, just a cloth, water and letting them air dry. They always look streaky.
What's the best way to get them really clean?
Answer: I use a polishing cloth. Sometimes I will run mine under water, then dry & buff w/ the cloth.
Question: How do you make scoubidou eyeglasses? also known as boondoggle eyeglasses i heard that you can make them this way does anyone have a web site showing how to make boondoggle or scoubiduo eyeglasses? or know how to make them?
Answer: I did not find how to make the eyeglasses, but I did find a site (in Dutch) that has many different loop structures.
Maybe you can see how to make your frame from that. Use wire in the middle of the 'lanyard' to be able to shape it better.
http://www.yoarra.nl/vis.php
All the words under 'voorbeelden' lead to samples, and ideas.
I would start at the end of one leg, (with wire in the middle), by the end of the leg, you add some more strings, one set makes the frame above the glasses, the other below, at the start of the other leg you need to loose the extra strings, looking like the start, that is the hardest part.
Alternatively, start in the middle, in the middle of your strings, add just besides the middle, on each side, for the bit below the glasses.
When you have gone round the glass, (each side,) make a bit of brick stitch, (that is this stitch, here called differently: http://www.yoarra.nl/eng/scoubidous6.php )
and take the shortest strings out after a few stitches.
Do use wire, certainly in the top bar, and also in the legs, maybe also in the bit under the glass.
Glue your glass to the frame if you are pleased with it.
Question: Does wearing eyeglasses actually make your vision worse in the long run? I know everyone says that it does, but my optometrist says it's not true, and that NOT wearing your eyeglasses will make your vision worse faster. So why is there this great misconception?
Answer: Well maybe what they're getting at is yes glasses may make your vision slightly worse in the long run, however you would be much worse off if you don't wear glasses as your eyes are straining too much trying to get the right vision.
Question: Do magnifying eyeglasses allow you to see distant objects in a magnified form? I know how reading glasses work. I want to know about magnifying eyeglasses (glasses you wear). Do they enable you see distant objects (4 meters or more) in a magnified view?
Answer: Not technically. If you are talking about glasses you wear, they are actually the same thing as reading glasses, just made specifically for people with farsightedness. People who are nearsighted use minus-powered lenses to lengthen the focal length b/c their eyes are too long. Farsighted people use plus-powered lenses to shorten the focal length b/c their eyes are too short. Reading glasses are made the same (with plus-powers) but are used for people over 40 who cannot focus anymore (the lens inside the eye is no longer flexible).
Question: How do I find what prescription my eyeglasses are? I have a 7 year old pair of eyeglasses that work fine but I want to update the style. I don't know what my prescription is and don't need another eye exam so can the Optometrist find my prescription just using my glasses or ?
I have a 7 year old pair of eyeglasses that are working fine (correct prescription verified at an eye exam 1 year ago) but I want to get a newer style of glasses. I don't know my prescription but can the optometrist figure it out without another eye exam? Thanks.
Answer: I'm guessing you don't have the original receipt from when you had them made, but that would be one way to find out.
The optometrist can find out by just taking a few measurements from your glasses with a pair of calipers. That shouldn't be a problem. By the way, you should have an eye exam about every two years.
