Facts About Vitamin C
Question: If you take a vitamin C pill everynight before bed would that prevent you from being able to tan in the summer? I read all about vitamin c, and how it is a sheild for the body, and it prevents free radicals, and all about how it's a huge defense for the skin to make it healthy. See, I can tan, and quite well, as long as I do it slowly, meaning I go out one day for 10min, a couple days later for 15, then 20-25 etc till eventually I can go out as long as I want. But if I just go out at the start of summer for hrs, I'll burn and get freckles. I take vitamin C to prevent the skin from doing that. but if you take it everynight does it prevent your skin from being able to tan in the summer? Does it just make it so your skin will do nothing, not burn nor tan? Considering the fact vitamin c makes your skin less sensitive to the sunlight. I'm not sure :/ help?
Answer: dont worrie about it , yull still be able to tan .. as long as yur not having like a bottle of it everynight :P
Question: For how long does the body store vitamin c? This has been asked a few times already but It's never been explained why you can survive being on a diet low on vitamin c when you need it daily. I read an article about Inuits that lived primarily off fish but did eat some fruits and vegetables from time to time meaning that there could be days or even weeks between each dose of vitamin c. Does this mean that the body does in fact contain vitamin c inside the cells for a longer period of time but the plasma level drops however much quicker?
Answer: Hi:)
The body cannot store vitamins, so you need to refill this through food. However, you can go for some time before you get ill from vitamin deficiency. So you can cope without certain vitamins for quite some time before it gets critical:) Vitamin C for example is used to pick up iron, and you need iron to pick up oxygen. But iron is a mineral, which the body does store. Butif you run low on this, you'll feel fatigue. So if the Inuits only ate fruit and veggies weeks apart, then they would be fine. However, a healthy balanced diet where you aren't robbed of any nutrients, can make you live longer:)
Question: How successful is Vitamin C and Dong Quai against pregnancy? What is the success rate of using vitamin c and dong quai to induce a period or even an abortion?
Don't care to hear about your views just the facts.
Answer: Period, fairly high over about 5 days. Abortion, only about 33% if you're less than 5 weeks pregnant. However I do have friends who have used this method successfully on untested late periods.
Question: can you consume too much vitamin C? My dad takes anywhere from 3000 to 5000mg a day of vitamin C chewables, and i take about 1000mg a day. Is it safe to be taking this many? he says you can never have too much of it, but i want the real facts. thanks!
Answer: you and your dad are wasting your money. Anything in excess of 500 mgs is automatically excreted by the kidneys, to prevent toxicity. Obviously, if you don't drink enough water with all that vitamin C you can cause your kidneys considerable damage with all the filtration they have to do to get rid of the excess.
Question: Papaya vs Orange/blueberries, which serves more as an antioxidant? Which has more vitamin C? Hello, i was wondering...ive seen in several sites that blueberry are usually the top fruits in antioxidants, yet i see the facts about papaya its really high in vitamin c which is also an antioxidant, it has like 300% of vitamin c compared to an orange which is much less (which i dont remember) so...which one would be better to eat? Orange? Papaya? or blueberry?
I'm researching because i have a liver problem, inflammation, and they told me to eat stuff with antioxidants to detoxify liver and have a healthy liver, im asking for any opnions, anything is welcome!
- Bryant
Answer: i would go with oranges and blueberries simply because i dont like papaya. It has a god awful smell I am not lieing some say it smells like vomit i think it smells like baby diapers.
Question: What does the fact that humans et al cannot synthesise ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) say about evolution? Despite us having the gene to do so?
Did God switch it off so he could watch us get scurvy?
...
My guinea pig cannot synthesise vitamin c either.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_C
...
@ RD I say it proves the split between the animals that can produce it - and the animals that can't.
...
Answer: What an incredibly uneducated group of answers!
"If we had the gene to do it, we would." - we do (gulonolactone oxidase pseudogene), and we don't.
"Since the only other animals that have the same genetic defect are primates..." - so guinea pigs are now primates are they?
"We also like fried foods because we can't make fats." - oh no? Where do all the obese people come from?

Answer: B12 might be a problem.
From wiki: The Dietary Reference Intake for an adult ranges from 2 to 3 µg (micrograms) per day. Vitamin B-12 is believed to be safe when used orally in amounts that do not exceed the recommended dietary allowance (RDA). The RDA for vitamin B-12 in pregnant women is 2.6 µg per day and 2.8 µg during lactation periods. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of consuming greater amounts of Vitamin B-12 during pregnancy.
Your prenatal vitamin has 100 micrograms of B12. You may want to do some research of your own into this, to see if this is something you want to try.

Question: Does meat especially red meat have any nutritional value? I've been vegan for three years and vegetarian for five before that. I'm so tired of usually strangers telling me I'm so unhealthy if they find out I'm vegan. I'm just trying to figure out where are they coming from. Doesn't the bad about meat outweigh the good if any? I mean if candy has vitamin C that doesnt make up for the fact it's still candy.
Answer: Yes, there are nutrients in meat. There are not, however, any nutrients in meat which cannot be easily obtained from plant sources.
Meat contains protein, iron, zinc, and the b vitamins riboflavin, thiamin and b-12..
*Protein is found in beans, nuts, seed, lentils, meat substitutes, potatoes, etc. Outside of famine conditions, protein deficiency is all but unheard of. Generally speaking, if you consume enough calories, you’re getting enough protein.
*The daily requirement of iron is easily obtained with one cup of fortified breakfast cereal, or one serving of tofu. Beans and whole grains are also good sources.
*Zinc is found in beans, nuts, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and dairy products.
*Riboflavin in found in dark green leafy vegetables, mushrooms, asparagus and broccoli.
*Thiamin is found in whole grains, nuts, sunflower seeds, peas, milk, cauliflower, spinach and legumes.
*B-12 is found in eggs, dairy products, organic produce, nutritional yeast and fortified breakfast cereals.
Question: Can a nutrition bar have so many vitamins? The other day I bought a nutrition bar at Aldi for only $1. There were about 10 vitamins there, according to the nutrition facts. With 100% of Vitamin C, 150% of Vitamin K, 20% of Zinc, and other vitamins (that I don't really remember off the top of my head). SO I was wondering, could a nutrition bar for only 1 dollar have so many vitamins, with such large percentages? Thank you for reading this and thank you for all of your answers.
Answers are highly appreciated! =)
Answer: its called fortification.

I'm worried about the CALORIES FROM FAT, & the SODIUM!!!
Answer: skippy is one of the worst leading peanut butter manufacturer in the U.S.. It doesn't contain as much protein as other leading brands such as JIF or PETER PAN. don't worry about calories from fat though. you need at least 1800 calories a day to maintain a healthy living. so 180 might not even have an effect on you. 150 grams of sodium is only a tenth of what you need in a day. so you're all good. but i would suggest not getting skippy. also doesn't contain as many vitamins as other leading brands

Question: Vitamin B-6 Declared a "Drug" by FDA. Is Codex A on the way, to be implemented by Dec. 2009? All part of the plan folks wish more would get informed about Codex and the fact once implemented you won't be able to get Vitamin C without a prescription. So this might not be "Codex" per say but well part of the plan to get from A to B.
This is horrible. Force fluoride (a poison) on everyone but ban natural sources of vitamins. What's next, banning oranges because they have too much Vitamin C?
Will we have to get it Vitamin B-6 on the black market, like raw milk?
Why is it declared a drug?? What are the effects? Happiness?
As a woman, we need our B's to keep mindfully sound.
Answer: As long as ignorant people self medicate and suffer from vitamin toxicity, the AMA will have a "reason" for these laws, even though I believe it is actually about establishing a monopoly on health care.
Question: Is not eating red meat better for your internal health? i have not had any red meats such as beef, pork, lamb etc for about 8 months now at all. I have instead been eating more chicken and fish in place of them. I stopped because i heard meat rots in our intestines in addition to our bodies are not made to eat meat. Do you think what i am doing is better for my body and will benefit me later on or not and if not please tell me why. If you say i need iron i dont, due to the fact that i am not supposed to eat foods like orange juice or take high doses of vitamin c due to the fact that i cant have to much. So is what i am doing healthier for my body??
Answer: actually our bodies are not meant to process naturally red meat. It doesn't rot the intestines but it does take longer in your digestive system like chocalate to disolve most of the nutrients and it has more waste than any other meat like poultry and/or fish. I am alergic to red meat, makes me sick like having flu. If you limitied to vitamin C and don't need iron than make sure you cover your bases with a multi vitamin a day to cover those other vitamins but really just eating vegetables daily that are raw will take care of that too. Your diet is fine.
