Flax Oil
Question: flax oil????????????? what is flax oil is it a pill or oil?
Answer: flax oil is oil from the flax seed, and it comes in pill form I think but I have not seen that.
It is excellent in stabelizing bodily systems and adding good oil to the system. You should eat it with yogurt, not other milk products as so many say.
Question: What's the difference between flax oil and Flaxseed oil? I read on another answer saying that they both are the same?
But i just read a diet recipe that consist of 2 tbspoon of Flaxseed oil and 2 tbspoon of Flax oil.
If they're the same, why cant i just put 4 tbspoon of either flax/flaxseed oil.
oh and another thing. Can i actually find those in supermarkets?
Thanks a lot!
Answer: There really isn't any difference between the 2. What recipe has 4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) of flax(seed) oil in it? That will not be a fun dish to eat. A typical dose is 1 teaspoon/day per 50 lbs of weight. Maybe the recipe you're looking at features some brand of oil, and they want you to buy 2 varieties. Never cook flax oil, btw, because heat destroys it's healthy qualities.
Just warnin' you a bit: Flax oil isn't the tastiest thing in the world. You'll probably be happier chugging down a spoonful of the stuff rather than eating it in your food. It has a very grassy flavor, a bit of bitterness... it's very real.
You can get flax oil at well-stocked grocery stores, and at health food stores. Shop for the best price. Check expiration dates, and after you open it, store it in the refrigerator. If you find it on sale, you can buy a couple bottles and freeze it for up to a year. Use the bottle within a month after opening. If it smells like oil paint or like linseed oil, it's spoiled and you should not consume it.
Question: How to disguise the flavor of flax oil? I absolutely HATE the taste of flax oil it makes my gag, everyone says you can make salad dressings with it and that with disguise that taste, not to me.
Any vegan friendly suggestions?
Answer: i take a flax seed oil pill...it is completely tasteless!! it cost about the same as the actual oil or the seeds and can be bought in the organic vitamin section of any vitamin store maybe even in walmart.
Question: Does flax seed oil have the same benefits as fish oil in helping with depression? I have grief-induced depression that my doctor doesn't think is serious enough for antidepressants but should be treated, and she suggested taking fish oil everyday because apparently it's been helpful for teens who are mildly depressed. The problem is that I am a vegan, so I don't want to take fish oil, especially since they come in gelatin capsules. I'd like to take flax oil instead, but I don't know if it would be beneficial. Please let me know. Thanks! : )
Answer: Most nutritionists and doctors who are carnivores maintain that fish oil is superior to flax oil for omega 3. Most forms of the oil are available in liquid form as well as capsules. So the liquid form would avoid the gelatin problem. Regarding your vegan beliefs, you will just have to follow your heart and spirit.
If you try flax or fish oil, I highly recommend Barlean's brand as one of the best. Also, for depression, pay more attention to getting high levels of EPA than DHA in your oil. The former is more for emotional issues, while the latter is more for physical stuff. At least, that is what I read somewhere.
Remember that you can get omega 3 in foods. Here is an interesting site. http://ezinearticles.com/?Foods-Containing-Omega-3-Oils&id=475518

Question: Can you replace flax oil with canola oil? im making a recipe that has flax oil. can i replace or is it not a good idea?
thanks =) yep i got some virgin olive oil. its for breakfast tomorow =D
Answer: The recipe might not taste the same without the flax oil but a good substitute with a good taste would be peanut oil. A healthy substitute would be extra virgin olive oil. Peanut oil should be a good substitute taste wise since both flax and peanut oil come from nuts and seeds.if there is no flax seed oil peanut or extra virgin olive oil would be your best substitutes.
Question: Can I be allergic to flax oil which is supposed to be good for "allergies"? I have had "arthritis " type joint pain all over since starting flax oil 5 months ago. I felt better the first 3-4 weeks, then the symptoms started. Maybe it is caused by something and just coincidental with the timing of the flax oil capsules. I cannot find any info on alleriges to any oils. I only take 1200mg a day.
Answer: Yes, you can be allergic to flax.
Question: Is there a benefit to flax oil that is not in fish oil? I was told that when the ALA's in flax oil convert, you lose about 80% of the benefits; thus, missing out on the possible absorbtion of DHA & EPA. I was also told that it is beneficial to take flax because of something in it that you can't get from fish oil. Any help in this area is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Answer: Flax seed I use on a daily basis.
another name for it is Linaza.

Question: Is it safe to consume expired flax oil? I have a bottle of flax oil in the fridge that expires on April 1st. I take 2 tablespoons daily for omega-3 fatty acids and there is no way I will finish the entire bottle by the expiration date. Is there a grace period where it's still safe to consume expired flax oil, or should I just throw it out and buy a fresh bottle?
Answer: I actually don't think it will hurt you, but why take a chance? The expiration date is there for a reason. Just toss it and buy a fresh bottle. it's cheap enough, and certainly cheaper than a doctor's visit.
Question: Is it dangerous to eat flax oil that has expired? I just discovered that a bottle of Barlean's Flax Oil, which I just put in a smoothie I made, expired a couple months ago. Is this bad? Is it really dangerous to consume expired flax oil? The label said "freshest before" not "expires after" April 12, so would it be ok to keep putting it in smoothies?
Thanks
Answer: If you had kept it refrigerated - I would still use it. Oil does go rancid when exposed to air, but keeping it sealed and refrigerating it helps.
If it was opened and kept at room temp - i would toss it.
Question: I want to buy raw unrefined flax oil. Is there any place where they can squeez it infront of my eyes? I saw flax oil in stores but it is hard to trust them because they mix refined flax oil in unrefined flax oil
and then put it for sale.
Answer: Buy the seeds. Get the brown ones. Grind your own. But how will you know that they did not find some other seed and substitute it? So maybe it is time to move to Canada and buy a farm and grow them.
But think about it. Why would a company that makes the product want to make it lower in quality? And what do you mean by refined and unrefined? All flax seed oil has to come out of the seed. It can be done by pressing or chemical extraction. And what about the lignans? How are you going to make sure that you have enough Secoisolarisiresinal DiGlucoside? So buy the HPLC tandem spectrometer and get the PhD with it so you can actually use it.
Buy a good brand. Barlean's is widely available. I know of others too.
Or worry.
Question: what is flax oil and the benefits? I have a bottle of nature's way efagold flax oil high potency what does it exactly do? I read somewhere that omega 3 fatty acids help burn body fat or something like that can this also do the same instead of the cod liver oil caps?

Question: Is it normal for flax oil capsules to have sort of a nutty odor in its bottle? I take flax oil capsules due to my doctor saying that it can help lower cholesterol to a certain point. (Please do Not stop taking your medication though without consulting your physician.) Thank you for any responses!
Answer: I take this also,I have never noticed any odor, so just for u, I went and popped one open(the liquid shot across the room lol), no odor, ( Flaxseed oil is not suitable for cooking and should be stored in an opaque, airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. If the oil has a noticeable odor it is probably rancid and should be discarded)

Question: is it ok to take universal nutrtion: animal cuts with a combination of flax seed oil or fish oil? I am starting to use animal cuts now. I saw a bottle of this fish oil, flax seed oil and some other oil combination at walmart. I was just wondering if it would have an effect (good or bad) with my animal cuts supplements? Im sure it wont but I just need clarification on it.
Answer: yes it is
Question: Does anyone have any success in treating breast cancer with flax oil and cottage cheese? I have been using the flax oil for about a week now and have lots of hope and lots of questions. Dr. Budwig is obviously having real success treating her patients, I just wonder how much of her protocol is actually known here in the US. Anyone have any info?
Answer: You will find more honest answers to a question like this at a Breast Cancer Support group message board. People who actually have this disease are the ones who most likely have heard of this alternative treatment and can best guide you.

Question: Is it ok to take a tablespoon of flax oil and hemp oil each day for better health? I am trying to be more healthy this year and want to lose weight and look and feel better so I was told to consume 1 or 2 tablespoons a day of either flax oil or hemp oil and now i am wondering if I can take 1 tbs of each per day and what that would do for me.
Answer: I beg to differ with the first answer. Stick to the Hemp oil. Hemp seed oil is Much better than Flax seed oil, and tastes much better (it has a nutty flavor). The body absorbs Omega 6 and Omega 3 EFA's in a 3:1 ratio. Flax has a 1:3 ratio (1 Omega6 to 3 Omega3's) Using Flax, you will overdose your body on Omega3 unless you supplement with an Omega6 such as Evening Primrose oil.
Hemp seed oil already has the 3:1 (3 Omega6 to 1 Omega3) No need to supplement!
Question: What are the benefits of taking flax seed oil? I been seeing alot about flax seed and fish oil what are the benefits of taking them.
Answer: There are so many benefits of taking flaxseed oil. Flaxseed oil provides your body of much needed essential fatty acids, particularly Omega 3 essential fatty acids.
Your body needs essential fatty acids for the proper functioning of all of its many systems including your circulatory system, your skin, your immune system, etc.
Since most people get more omega-6 fatty acids than the omega-3 variety, and since your body cannot make essential fatty acids on its own, you need to get it in your diet. Flaxseed oil is the best source of omega-3s. It's even better than fish oil, because it comes from plants and you don't have to worry about contamination with mercury and other toxic chemicals.
Flaxseed oil can help heal skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It can also help prevent strokes, heart disease, and even cancer! They also help to reduce inflammation. Overall, it promotes a healthy body.
I found some really good pages that explain flaxseed oil. Check them out!
