Answer: Ok. this is from my colonial Williamsburg cookbook, that I bought in colonial Williamsburg in 1979, before it was cool to go to colonial williamsburg...
Williamsburg Apple Fritters
Peel and core six apples and cut them in thin slices. Soak them for two hours in brandy (or lemon juice). Dip them in batter and fry them in a kettle of boiling fat, or you may saute them in butter.
Batter
Beat two egg yolks and add one fourth cup of rich mild, one fourth cup of cold water, and one tablespoonful of brandy (or lemon juice) and one tablespoonful of melted butter. Sift in one cup of flour, two tablespoons of sugar, and one fourth teaspoon of salt. Mix quickly, then stir in lightly two well-beaten egg whites.

Question: FOoD??????????? Okay, so I am trying to like eat healthier this summer, starting today, and so I would like to know what like I could have for healthy meals. LIke breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and if you could give more than one meal for each that would be AMAZING. Also, any tips or anything would awsome too. And I am choosing best answer!! So PLEASE help me!!!
Answer: For breakfast, have a couple eggs with a piece of whole wheat toast, and a couple strips of turkey bacon.
For lunch, salad with veggies and chicken. Maybe a piece of bread on the side.
For dinner, steamed veggies, rice, and baked lemon pepper chicken or baked fish.
TIPS:
Cut out meats that are high in fat, and replace them with turkey, chicken, and fish.
You can get turkey burgers, sausages, bacon, so you don't even need to feel like you're missing out on good foods, and they're WAY healthier!
Bake your meat instead of sauteeing or frying.
Steam your veggies instead of sauteeing.
Completely cut out sodas, and lower your intake of juice.
Only drink 100% fruit juice, with no added sugar.
Drink lots more water!!
Stock up on celery and peanut butter, and fresh and dried fruits. When you want a snack, eat these instead of something bad.
If you must have chips, have tortilla chips and salsa. It's WAY better than potato chips and dip.
Question: FoOd............................? what should i have for a snack...a cinomin (however you spell it) or a brownie?
Answer: Some carrot and celery sticks...healthier.
Question: What is the best food for my kitten with diarrhea? My 16-week old kitten has been checked for worms 3 times within 2 weeks and all tests have been negative. She was on flagyl and probiotic and is done with that. Her food consisted of Merrick wet food and Wellness Dry food. I keep a water fountain clean and full at all times. She does not eat table scraps or get milk. She is not dehydrated and is gaining weight at a healthy pace. The only symptom is very loose stool or diarrhea. And until today, she was only pooping two or three times a day. Today she pooped twice between 6:30 and 7:00 am.
Assuming it is her diet, which seems the most logical at this point, what are your thoughts on foods that claim to be nutritionally balanced for all life stages? What are your suggestions for brands of foods that do not have by-products, wheat or corn? I understand the Wellness may be contributing since it is an adult food, but I didn't realize that until yesterday. I thought it was for all life stages. I want her to have the best food available.
Answer: youre feeding her good brands! Good job!. maybe stay away from the wet food. And get her a kitten dry. Innova is good or natura pet (same thing) Im not sure they have a kitten food.
You can go to their website http://www.naturapet.com/ and find a store in your area that carries their brand. And if that pet store carries this brand, then they typically only deal with the best food products and they might also have some suggestions for you.
I checked the website they have evo kitten dry which is good, but youre using a great food although Im not fan of wellness because i found a piece of plastic embedded in my dogs wellness ddry, i stopped buying them and went to innova evo
Science diet was on the bad food list, Innova was not. That guy is WRONG
Question: Why do I get food poisoning from fast food places? I eat a lot at fast food places and I've noticed that I get frequent food poisonings lately. In about 50% cases of eating there I get a diarreah the next day. In about 5% I throw up, have temperature and cannot eat anything for a few days - stomach flue? And it is the same for fast food and upscale restaurants. The only places I dont get a food poisoning is in my company's cafeteria (that has mostly fast food) and the best restaurants in Seattle, where I live?
Answer: Be careful where you eat. Some places do not enforce sanitary practices as much as other places. If one of the employees doesn't wash their hands after going to the bathroom, touching money, or pretty much touching anything other than food, the food you eat can become contaminated. Or, if one of the employees is sick already, and touches your food, it can make you sick, too. I work in the food service industry and I am very strict with my employees to make sure they wash their hands often. However, lazy managers who don't care or employees who don't care will cause problems.
Other than that, you may be eating too many fatty, greasy foods, and your body is sending you a message. Fast food is very unhealthy and you should only eat it once in a while if you really have to.
Question: How do I conduct a food bank at a high school in California? I'm a senior, and for my senior project I am putting together a food bank. The food collected is donated food from other students, and the remains of the cafeteria food. It is all packaged, so there's no worry. The food is to to go the needy students, of this campus. However, keeping every individual under consideration, how do I go about this food bank without offending any of the students? I'm sure a few would like to remain anonymous, because they'd be too embarrassed to publicize their necessity for food. So, how do I make it anonymous? Any tips, or ideas?
Answer: To be honest, I'm not sure you can. Once you publicize the food bank as being available, you almost certainly have to have someone supervising the room containing all the food to be sure no one trashes the place or contaminates the food. If just one person is in charge, that's probably about the closest you can get to anonymity. The other option would be to offer the food online (using the high school computers) and the needy student could indicate an address for it to be shipped (the student could use his own home, a relative's, or a friend's place)... bottom line... you really wouldn't know who would benefit in this case.
Question: What food should I use for urinary problems for a male cat? My cat Lionel is ten years old and still active. However he has had reoccurring urinary tract problems. I recently took him to the vet and they gave me a cat food (Prescription Diet C/D) which Lionel is supposed to eat for the rest of his life. (It has low magnesium).
My problem is that the food is very expensive and I have to go to the vet everytime to get it.
Is there another kind of dry cat food that is available? I heard that Nutro is a good brand. Also, I would like suggestions on any alternatives beside the dry food.
I can ask my vet these questions but I would like to have a 2nd (and 3rd, 4th etc) opinions from Yahoo answers.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Answer: Welcome to the world of urinary problems in cats. My cat just had a stone the size of a nickel removed so I know what you are going through....I hope. Anyway my doctor also gave me c/d for him but she also said that since it is sooooo expensive that I could give him purina urinary tract health for it and that would be ok. I hope this answers your question but I do know that for sure. As for other kinds I hope to read your answer and see what you are going to do.
Question: Is a school food provider allowed to become a monopoly inside a school? Our school food provider has been yearly reducing food quality and raising food prices. On the foods that they can't lower quality, they raise prices faster. Cans of soda there are 1.25$, and that is one of the cheaper things. Three pieces of chicken about the size of the space between your pointer and thumb if you make a circle are $4.75. On top of that the lunch program doesn't allow other competition, even vending machines. We can't even order food from outside of the school. Is this allowed?
Answer: The food service is seperate from the school. They are an outside food service company that have to bid for the job every year. When bidding, the company has to submit a menu and prices. If the food service is charging crazy prices, the school knows about it. If they are there, then they won the contract and there prices are better than anyone else who bid most likely. Changing prices mid-school year is a no-no. I would bring your own lunch, They cant stop you from doing that. $1.25 is alittle high for a school, but not crazy. You are paying for refrigeration, convienence....
Question: What is the best food for a cat to gain weigh after nursing kittens? A mom cat and her kittens adopted my patio a little while ago, and naturally I've been trying to leave some food and water out for them as often as possible. The mom cat was very skinny so I have been feeding her extra foods packed with vitamins and fats, like chicken, special dry & canned cat food, turkey, some beef, and she LOVES biscuits and cheese! :) But she never seems to gain any weight. I want to make sure she is eating enough to produce milk for her kittens and remain healthy, but it doesn't seem to matter what food I give her. Any food recommendations for a nursing stray cat?
Also... If they stay around any longer, I will have to take them to the shelter but I'd rather give them to people who will provide a good home. I live in Dallas. Please inquire if you are interested!
Answer: DO NOT Give "milk milk milk" like the above answer states - cats are lactose intollerant. Give the mother small amounts of yoghurt & PROPER kitten milk (or goats milk - as it is lactose free) out for them.
Also, the mother might like some red meat (such as beef) minced & a raw egg in it.
You need to make sure the mother's diet is high in calcium so the kittens get the calcium through her milk to ensure they don't have low calcium levels and break their little legs a little while down the track
Also, if the mother is now very skinny & not putting weight on, it may be an idea to worm her with a worming treatment that is suitable for breast-feeding queens....as I live in a different country I don't know what is available where you are, and cannot help with brand suggestions.
Question: How do food addictions and allergies work? I read that food allergies can become addictions because our bodies craves the food we are allergic to (some, not all obviously) and can lead to the addiction of that food. This is counter intuitive on so many levels lol So maybe I understood incorrectly.
Can someone explain the link between food allergy and addiction? Is this pseudoscience or real? How does it work?
Serious answers only.
Answer: I'm allergic to eggs, nuts, peanuts, and tree nuts and I've never heard of this. I'd say it isn't true because once you eat a food your allergic to it makes you feel so uncomfortable and bad that you'd never want to feel that way again. For example once I ate once of those really big Laffy Taffy and who knew those have eggs in them and the little ones don't. Anyway my throat swelled up and it was difficult to breathe. I don't think I'd become addicted to something that makes me feel that awful.
Question: What are the benefits of moist food for cats and dogs? I've always just fed my animals dry cat/dog food on a regular basis. Occasionally, I give them a treat of moist food, or soft food. I just purchased some soft and hard mixed dog food and my dog loves it. I guess I'm not sure why people feed their animals moist food as well as hard, or just moist food. I heard that moist food is bad for their teeth. What is your thoughts?
Answer: OH NO! Just kidding, well kinda, but anyway don't do it! I have been trying to get my two off of wet food for several weeks now. I have a pomerpoo who loves it, and knows it by name, (only the expecsive stuff too) and won't touch dry unless you hand feed it to him. Yes, he is spoiled rotten, but he's mine. My other is a pup, and she almost got hooked on the wet, but I think I've got it stopped now. My vet said it was bad for their teeth, causes plaque build up and initiates decay at a faster rate, which makes sence to me since I work in dental. So I've been giving just dry, and adding warm water, (a little less water everyday) to moisten it and they have started eating only it. I still have some back up wet for special occassions. They love the Beneful in the tub food! It looks better than my beef stew! Sometimes we forget who is the master (I know mine are but) and who is the pet, and we just have to decide what is best for them. They are like little children, or babies. They don't know any better. Put your foot down and say NO. They will eat when they get hungry. I know it wouldn't hurt mine to skip a meal or two, they both have enough there to last awhile off of. Another thing that wet food is the culprit of, excess weight! My vet really gave me a lecture last visit. One thing I've notice since they have been on the dry, no gas. That in it's self is a good enough reason to stop the wet! Good luck and I hope I was of some help.
PS. Please don't give your pets eat chicken bones or any bones that splinter. Mine had to have any extensive operation to remove a blockage from his intestine that almost killed him. Cause of this was chicken bones. Could have been easily avoided.
Question: What pet food is good for a one year old cat? I just got my first cat, and he is about 7 months old now. I know I should switch up his food soon from the kitten formula to something, but I want to know which food is best for him. I know foods like Purina and such is like feeding your cat fast food leftovers. (and in some cases spoiled leftovers lol) So I want something good for him, but a lot of the brands I see like Wellness is $13 a bag. Any suggestions on a happy medium?
Answer: You do not want a "him" cat on a dry food diet. It should be a minimum of 50% canned food.
There are a lot of great articles on cat nutrition at http://www.littlebigcat.com in Dr. Jean Hovfe's article library. Read: "What Cats Should Eat". "Why Cats Need Canned Food", "Selecting a Good Commercial Cat Food", "Urinary Tract Disorders in Cats" etc. Those are all at the end of about fifty articles on cat nutrition, health and behavior.
Whatever the cost of feeding your cat a quality food it will pay off for you in fewer veterinary bills in the long run so it is a worthwhile "investment" even if it seems expensive.
Question: How do you know your food is processed food? Can produce and vegetables be processed foods? What are the signs of foods that are processed? Is fast food foods processed? What restaurants use processed foods?
Answer: EVERYTHING is PROCESSED unless it comes fresh from the garden or in the PRODUCE department in the store.
Question: Does storing food in pots and pans in the refrigerator poison the food? My mom used to always tell me to put left overs in a tupperware and place in the fridge. She said the if you put the pot or pan in the fridge to store the left overs, it would poison the food. My boyfriend does this all the time and I've always refused to eat the food. Well, now I'm sick and he made some chicken soup. He put the soup in the fridge, in the pot and gave me some for work today. I'm scared to eat it because of what Mom used to always say but I can't seem to find anything on the net about it. Has anyone heard of this? Is it true that refrigerated food in pots poisons you?

The soup was made Monday night and has been in the pot, in the fridge, since about 3am Tuesday morning. How do I know if the pot is aluminum?
The soup was made Monday night and has been in the pot, in the fridge, since about 3am Tuesday morning. How do I know if the pot is aluminum?
Answer: No that does not make you sick. I do that all the time.
Its best to not store in the pan longer than 24 hours but if he did the soup last night you aren't sick from the way it was stored.
I think the warning came about because pans were made of coarse metals and iron pots and that can leech into food.
Most pots now are stainless steel.
