Help Losing Weight
Question: My friend is rapidly losing weight and I'm very concerned about her. How should I confront her? My friend has been losing a lot of weight this past year, and I'm very concerned about her. She is 14, 5' 7'' and 110 lbs. She is still losing weight, but I don't know how to confront her because she is not a trusting person and wouldn't tell anyone if she had a problem. How do I help her without making her feel like she's being put on the spot?
Answer: well if u are up front u can ask. but if she doesnt say anything then leave it up to her parents, or u cant express ur concerns with her parents, they probably already spoke to her about that

Question: What exercise is good for losing weight and fat? i go to the gym 5 times a week. i do cardio for 1 hour, weight training for 1/ 2 an hour and go into the sauna for half an hour. although i manage to lose 3kg for the 1st month but now i'm not losing any weight anymore and anyone know why? and can u help me not to think about food? because i also have a bit junk food when i think of food. can anyone help me?
Answer: Get the book called "Fit or fat" by Covert Bailey. It explains exercise physiology in terms that people can understand. You are doing a lot of good things here, but I'm guessing you could tweak your routine for more results with less effort.
Weight training is an excellent way to build muscle, which will burn calories for you even while you sleep. If you get into it in detail, you'll read about the body mass index. The higher percentage of your body mass that is muscle, the higher your metabolism goes. This is why active muscular young men can eat a lot and not get fat. As we age, and get desk jobs etc. we find a thousand different ways every day to conserve our energy and we find that we can no longer burn off all those calories. So we need a good balanced program of quality foods and exercise.
As attractive as six pack abs and big arms might be, the biggest bang for the buck, or in this case exercise minute, is in your legs. Your leg and butt muscles are the largest ones you have and will deliver the most benefit from being exercised. So your cardio exercise is excellent, and if you ever start to burn out on doing an hour a day, taper back rather than quit. Even 20 minutes is very beneficial.
Weight training is a process where you lift weights to tear your muscle fiber, and then you rest and eat nutrients to rebuild the muscle fiber stronger than it was before. So for the weight training portion of your workout, never work the same muscle groups 2 days in a row. do upper body one day and lower body the next. Cardio is okay 5 times a week, as long as you do get some rest at least once or twice a week. Eat a lot of protein and vegatables for weight training. limit simple carbs, like sugars and rice and potatoes etc. Sugars, cut fruit and starches produce profound cravings that snowball out of control very quickly. Try quitting sugar cold turkey for the easiest way to control it.
I am not familiar with the benefits of a sauna, and I suspect they are minimal, compared to excercise and a good diet. Nothing that involves sitting around has ever been shown to be better than excercise and eating healthy food, to the best of my knowledge :)
The motivation to make and maintain a lifestyle change can wane from time to time, so be sure to talk to friends and family who encourage you, and read about excercise and healthy eating when you start to feel like you might fall off the wagon.
And remember that if you do suffer a set back, and eat a donut or cake or skip the gym or whatever, its not a failure of your program or you, its a setback, its just a small piece of ground to regain. So jump back on the program and forget about it, rather than throwing up your arms and giving up the hard won gains.
Do not focus on spot exercises, like massive numbers of stomach crunches to lose fat in the midsection. Your legs will burn energy from anywhere on your body. Yes, you tend to burn the fat closest to the muscle using it first, but the burn rate is so much better from using your legs than from doing situps that you are much farther ahead doing your cardio to lose the weight, and doing crunches just to sculpt muscle once you can actually see your stomach muscles again. :)
Lastly, try to find recipies you like for healthy foods. Avoid tricks and gimmicks, they will not last. You want to adopt a permanent healthy eating habit. There are tons of high quality meals low in simple carbs and sugars.
Don't be afraid of fat content in quality foods. Your body needs to ingest a certain amount of fat to function at its best.
Good luck! Your excellent habit of devoting time to exercise 5 times a week puts you in the very top tier of probability for success.
Question: What approach works best in losing weight? I've heard several bits of advice concerning weight loss and I'm finding it hard to decifer which is correct. I guess I'm a little confused because they say you can't lose weight by dieting but how are you supposed to lose weight if you don't? Isn't changing your habits dieting? After having three kids, I have about forty pounds I desperately want to shed and would like to do it over the summer but whenever I focus on losing weight, I seem to gain....HELP!
No spam please =)
Answer: I completely understand where you are coming from. Truthfully, it depends on what diet one is choosing to follow. Is one following a liquid diet or that acai berry crap(aka spam ads) or is one using a low calorie or any other more i suppose tried and true diets? So, to answer your question, by dieting and adding in more foods that are healthy such as oatmeal(the less sugar the better), fruits and vegetables, egg whites, soups(the lower the sodium the better as well), salads, chicken breasts(no skin), lots of water(why waste calories on soda and other sugar drinks when they do nothing for anyone) and i mean lots of water, then yes one can lose weight by changing their habits aka dieting And yes i suppose that one can label as changing their habits as dieting, considering that that is the most important thing.
Okay, so now that we have established that, you want to know what else will help you lose weight. I am currently on my own weight loss journey at the moment and I will tell you what I have been doing and what things have been working for me.
First of all, one really has to be DEDICATED to their diet. I used to just workout thinking that that would be enough, but all I would do was gain weight and work my *** off for nothing. So, you really have to find the motivation somehow whether it be through a strong support system of family/friends or self-motivation because the diet is probably about 70% of the battle. But, 3 weeks ago I began to eat nearly flawless(no cheats or binging) and I'm not sure how much weight I have lost because I havent weighed myself yet..probably somewhere between 5 and 8 lbs, but it is mainly from incorporating healthy foods that I listed above. I know a lot of people hate fruits and vegetables, but that is all that I have mainly been eating. Oh and before every meal, I make sure to drink 2 glasses of water so that way I won't eat as much and this helps tremendously. Plus, it helps flush out your system, aiding in digestion and so forth.
And for the other 30% of the battle, good ole exercise. I personally do cardio 6 days a week for 2 hours a week, pretty intense the whole time. I am drenched in sweat at the end of the two hours. Since you are a mother, I'm assuming that your time will probably be a lot more limited than my time. But, just try finding some time during the day to work out like 30 minutes(the more intense the better, but don't kill yourself if you don't work out a lot) or break it up into 15 minute increments if you do not have a lot of time.
Okay, I feel as if I should add this little tidbit on here too. The best combination for weight loss that i have been researching is to combine a healthy diet + cardio+ weight lifting. I personally do not weight lift bc im trying to lose a little muscle. But, I'm assuming that you are not a recently retired softball player with extra muscle like me...so doing a combination of these three is the best and fastest way to acheive weight loss and keep it off as well.
Sorry about the novel that I wrote, I just hope that I helped you in some way. :] and I am more than willing to help you out in any other questions you may have. Good Luck!
Question: How does losing weight help the hemorrhoids? Ok I'm really desperate. I asked this question in other sections. I went to all these sites online that say to lose weight if you want relief from hemorrhoids. I get that you need to exercise to help move your bowels but I still don't understand how losing weight helps the hemmorrhoids? None of these sites explain that. I'm so confused and I already went to the doctor, and I'm just very desperate. Please help.
Answer: I would say if you're carrying a lot of weight in your abdomen it would put pressure around your rectum. Pregnant women sometimes have problems with hemorrhoids because of the pressure.
Question: How can I lose my extra skin after losing weight, will I need surgery? My biggest fear about losing weight ( I want to lose about 100lbs) is will I look dreadful with the extra skin I have. I am currently going to Curves at least 3x a week will that help, because I can't afford surgery.
Answer: Most likely if you are young, probably if under 40, your skin will still be elastic enough to shrink on its own. If not, there isn't anything you can do about it other than build muscle through weight lifting to fill in some of the space that the fat used to take up.
Question: How much does walking help in losing weight? I have to lose about 10 kgs and I have started walking for 1 hour everyday. I have also cut the intake of fats in my food.
How much will the walking regime help me in losing those extra kilos. Also what all should I include in my exercises to lose weight as soon as possible. Please Help.
Answer: Walking develops you core muscles... It burns up fat reserves... it helps increase Cardiovascular performance.
I could go on... lets just say it really helps you lose weight naturally, providing you don't allow yourself to get too hungry! When you are hungry your body lays on more fat from the food you eat.
So split you daily intake into smaller meals. Use water to help fill you at meal time especially. Your stomach will reduce in size after a few days and this will help reduce your appetite. After the first few days you should try to avoid being hungry too long. I find Oat biscuits very filling [with Banana] and the roughage is good for your Bowel too.
Look up Pilates exercises - they can also help.
Question: How Can I COMMIT To Losing Weight So I Can Be Sexy? I need help in figuring out how I can make myself commit to losing weight. I'm fine during the day, but when nighttime comes, I lose control and lose the direction of my goals. Also, I want to lose weight so that I can be the sexiest person that I'm capable of. Please help! I want to wear sexy lingerie and treat my boyfriend to something he's never seen before! Thanks!
Answer: Keep an image of how you want to look in your mind at all times.
Especially at your weak points. It's like with me, I love hamburgers.
When I just have to have a Double Whopper with Bacon, I also imagine that if I eat it, I will be a big whopper.
And that is not how I imagine myself.
I know it's hard, I have been on that roller coaster.
It takes much will power.
It also helps to window shop at the thing that you are going to fit in.
Keep looking at those clothes and it helps
Question: What are the best diet and exercise tips for losing weight in a semi-short amount of time? I have prom comming up in May and i would really like to look good for it. I am about 85 pounds over the weight I would really like to be. I was wondering if any one had any tips on how to cut back on junk food with it being around you all the time (in my house), any excersis tips that would work with losing weight in about 4 months, and any other general advice that would help my perdicament. Thank you.
Answer: Hi there, if losing some pounds of any description is what you want then I used a great website and coach who helped me. They were very friendly and gave me lots of great advice. I needed to lose 40 pounds and I did so fairly easily. The website is www.myhealthabc.com once you fill in your details then you can see the full range of products they have. You will need their help though as there is so much to choose from. The products really work and you feel great whilst losing weight, its all nutrition based.
I lost all my weight in less than three months and they have helped me to keep it off. I would definitely recommend using them, the tips you get and encouragement are excellent (their advice and time is FREE). I am still with them so I stay healthy. If you just want to buy the products and not use the coaching then you can do that aswell, there is a link in there to email them so you can tell them you just want to buy and not speak to anyone. The owners will even advise you via email on what to purchase depending on what you want to lose, my sister did it this way (she was more self conscious than me) and lost 76 pounds in less than five months. These guys are just great, try them
Question: How can I change old habits about losing weight? I am 21, college student, 225lbs. I have always struggled with weight and self confidence issues. I am wanting to get down to around 180, mainly muscle. I am trying to figure out how to over come my laziness and lack of self motivation and self dedication to actually start losing weight. Just any insight of what may have helped you, or things you may know that would help would be much appreciated.
Answer: Hello DDub,
First off, realize that I'm not a physician so the information is a personal opinion.
You will need to get to the root cause of your self-confidence issues, perhaps seeking therapy.
Why do you want to lose weight?
Mine was for health reasons, tumors/cysts. Doctors wanted to cut on me (surgery) and I did not want to go that route.
So, getting back to you..why do you want to lose the weight?
I'm sure you know what it will take to lose the weight, eating right, portion control, exercise.
But unless you get to the root cause, find the motivation, I'm wasting my and your time.
I could tell you that if you don't lose the weight, that there is a chance you will be plagued with health problems, particularly as you get older, but I'm sure you already know that.
Image yourself at your ideal weight, find someone that has a similar body structure as you do but at the weight and physique that you want to be.
Ask yourself is it worth it to change your life to look that him?
I understand that being in college that the average student does tend to gain weight, I start my Fall Term in a few weeks, so I know.
But as a student you also know what it takes for you to get good grades, pass that exam.
Hitting the books, or what the Brits call mug (studying hard) and saying no to the partying.
The same with losing weight. Saying no to foods that got you were you are now, letting go of your current lifestyle for a new you.
Gosh, I meant to keep this brief (smile).
Realize DDub that you're worth what it takes to reinvent yourself or to be reborn to the new you.
Take it slow and steady, Eliminate the junk food by changing one bad food for a good one.
Self-determination and self-love..you are worth it.
You have age and time on your side, do it.
A few ideas that most don't realize in addition to the regular weight loss stuff.
Digestive enzymes, helps digest cooked foods and thereby increasing your metabolism.
Don't know if you want to go this far but proper food combining will also help lose the weight
The processed foods, sugar, junk foods are pretty much made for you to gain weight, again a personal opinion.
So you're gonna have to go clean; fresh fruits, vegetables, clean water.
Sorry, this was so long ;-)
Wish you the best DDub

Question: What is the number one rule for losing weight? I find it so hard to commit to losing weight. I want to lose 8kg but I just can't seem to keep to a diet for long enough. Are there any ways you have found help to get my mind on the job and learn to eat healthy and exercise enough?
Answer: #1 - eat less calories than you burn.
Yes, dont skip meals. Your body goes into starvation mode after only a few hours & stops burning calories. Eat every 2,3 hours, small meal, healthy food. And not just carbs. Best is a 40/40/20 ratio of protein/carbs/fat.
More carbs AM, more protein PM.
No junk!
Drink a lot of water. Drink 20oz COLD water when you wake. Revs up your metabolism by 30% just towarm the water.
Find something you like to do. A sport, join a dance class/club, play tennis. Team sports have friends to keep you involved.
And if you skip or eat too much, sont let it get you. Thats hust one time. Stick with it.
Question: What are your 2 biggest questions you have about losing weight and getting fit? If you could ask me (a personal trainer) and 2 questions about losing weight what would they be? I am trying to find out the best way to help people lose weight and get the body that they really deserve....

Question: What are good exercises for losing weight on your arms, legs, and your belly fat? I'm having trouble with losing weight on my whole body so please help me what are good ways to lose fat on the arms, legs, and belly fat.
Answer: Hi,
I am a 5.7 and 31 years old and a month ago I weigh 147lbs although about a year ago I weighed 188lbs. I am not very happy with how I look, although I have slimmed down a lot, but I still look like I'm pregnant. My stomach is flabby, my butt is big and I just feel and look disgusting. I used to run on treadmill for 15-20 mins then do some stretching for 10 min and then workout for 30-40 mins and all this 7 days a week. But I just couldn’t reach my goal. It is enough to make anyone frustrated.
A month ago a friend introduced me a workout program. I was skeptical at first that this would work by itself. Targeted weight loss is quite tough, some would say impossible, but the program definitely does produce results. I have lost 20 lbs in four weeks plus 3 inches from my stomach and even my legs are much more slimmer then before.
You’ll make dramatic improvements in your worst trouble spots and most stubborn problem areas if you do simple, yet carefully structured, bodyweight exercises (no weights & no machines) which combine all three types of muscle movement: Concentric, Eccentric and Isometric. This is a crucial factor for man and women that cannot be addressed with typical weight and machine type exercise programs. The only way to combine these for maximum results and safety is by focusing on bodyweight type exercises. Because its basically impossible to achieve this when using weights and machines. If you are wondering that this program is too good to be true then get a free copy of ‘The Leg, Butt, Hip and Thigh Enhancement e-Guide’ by sending me an email at [email protected]
